She takes care of everyone on both sides of the bar inside and out. . My plan was to starve myself and get relaxed or marinated properly for a for a deep tissue massage therapy. I've been coming to this Cajun Steamer location since it opened several years ago. I hate to say but the restaurant has gone down. During my most recent visit, the restaurant looked and felt unclean and dingy. The floor was so incredibly sticky that my slide-in actually stuck to the floor and my foot came out of my slide. The oysters were not good. They tasted as if they only cooked the oyster toppings and poured them over the raw oysters. Instead of cooking the oysters with the toppings. Ate here for the first time on Mardi Gras. The drinks were good, I had the Hurricane. It was actually pretty slow for Mardi Gras, we didn't have a long wait at all which was great. But my husband ordered a draft beer and they still brought it out in the tiny special occasion cups. Like.... I get it for the special drinks but draft beer? And it cost more than the mixed drinks! Then I ordered the shrimp and grits and received the tiniest serving of grits ever, for $17!! Grits cost PENNIES to make. Just super disappointed in the serving sizes. I don't know where to begin. I came here last Night with my niece and my daughter for dinner. The wait wasn't long at all when we came in the host promptly seated us in a booth. We already knew what we wanted my niece order the chargrilled oysters for her appetizer and I wanted the crab claws. The waitress was very slow with taking our order and just checking on us throughout the dinner service. The chargrilled oysters were not good at all and they were very very small the crab claws were OK when I dipped in cocktail sauce but they were small as well. I ordered a cup of gumbo because I just love gumbo and it lacked flavor. No spiciness. While my daughter was eating her chicken tenders she pulled a long piece of hair out of her mouth that was attached to a piece of the chicken tender. I showed the waitress and she asked if I wanted it taken off the bill or did she want a fresh batch. My daughter was really hungry so she requested a fresh batch of chicken tenders. I would assume just from good customer service they would've taken it off the bill just out of a good heart but they didn't. My niece ordered the fettuccine and she put salt, pepper, hot sauce, creole sauce on it, and it still had no flavor. I tasted it and it was very bland. She ordered a side of fries and she said that was the only thing good about the meal. I ordered the redfish Rockefeller. The fish was blackened and so it did have a kick to it but the meal itself just wasn't good at all. We actually ran out of drinks and our waitress never came back and asked if we want refills or anything. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant if you're looking for good, fresh, flavorful seafood. I would try somewhere else in the area. read more

Food tasted great! It was what I expected from Cajun Steamer - cajun seasonings on bayou favorites. Food service was slow. There was a printer malfunction in the kitchen which slowed the food prep. No one notified us or came to check to even check out drinks after our food order was taken. We were notified about the kitchen issues when we asked about the appetizer we had not received. The menu says you can "add mushrooms, boiled egg and sausage for +$3," which I did and my meal came to $30.99...... because the mushrooms, eggs and sausage are THREE DOLLARS EACH AND THE BUTTER TO DIP EVERYTHING IN IS ALSO!!! Wow what a place! Excellent flavorful food and wonderful service! A friend in Birmingham met me here as I was passing through the area; we both thought it was exceptional. So many delicious entrées to choose from on the menu-plus awesome appetizers and sides. We both ordered the Shrimp Creole Orleans and the spices and Old Bay seasoning hit the spot! Also we shared the Coconut Shrimp skewers with mango salsa before diving into the entrées and we both were already in restaurant heaven! For additional sides I ordered Fried Okra and Fried Green Tomatoes and all was delectable. My friend was enthusiastic about the Hushpuppies he ordered. I didn't even get to try them! It's been a while since I have been to Cajun Steamer. It use to be one of my favorite Cajun restaurants. Not so much anymore. It's not bad but there are better choices now. I ordered the Catfish Pontchartrain with Cajun mashed potatoes and a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. The food was good, even though the potatoes were lukewarm. My primary complaint is the portion size. We're planning to get together to celebrate our manager, there were several options and I voted for CS because I miss gumbo (I used to go to NOLA when I lived in MS) so I ordered their gumbo and half dozen oysters, two of them ordered appetizers for the table (crab dips and blue crab claws) Both appetizers are delicious so is my oysters; but the gumbo is ok I definitely won't order it again, I even sprinkled some Tony's but still didn't help with the taste (I'll give it a 3 from 1-10 scale) The drinks are good! read more

I always go during the week. Mostly on Monday between the hours of 1pm and 3pm. It's never extremely crowded which is great. The inside is clean and the staff seems to care about the appearance of the restaurant. Food I will give a 4 out of 5. My friends and I came here for a late dinner on a busy Friday night and we were immediately seated. The interior is quite spacious, with plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. It was our first time here but we were all excited to try the food. I ordered the Shrimp Creole dish and my friends got the Flounder Seafood Roulade and the Fried Catfish po'boy. I asked for my dish to be extra spicy but unfortunately when it came out it was a massive salt bomb. Extra spicy probably just means more of their spice mixture, which already has salt in it. But the waitress apologized and brought out a normal, less salty dish. It was a little more watery then my original dish...I wonder if they just thinned out my first dish with water to dilute the salt lol. In any case, it was still good and reasonably priced. The po'boy was huge and the flounder roulade was very tasty and had a good balance of filler and fish. + the sides were good. After reading a glowing review from a fellow Yelper in support for this seafood spot, I knew I had to give it a shot. The restaurant is clean and has a bar that allows for indoor customers as well as outdoor customers to access it. The drink special for the day was a mixed drink with Tito's vodka for 5 dollars. Personally, I decided to stick with my old faithful, Michelob Ultra. I ordered the catfish with shrimp and even though the catfish wasn't cooked exactly the way I'd prefer, the delicious and flavorful shrimp more than made up for where the catfish was lacking. Molly, the bartender was helpful, funny and a joy to be around. I'll definitely have to try more of the steamed dishes next time, but overall i enjoyed my experience.... read more

This is a really neat place to eat. The atmosphere is light and festive - makes me REALLY want to be on Bourbon Street. It took a little while to be seated - I don't think they had anyone staffed specifically for the host stand but once we were seated, we ordered quickly and our food came out hella fast and it was HOT, hot, just the way I like it. We got a catfish and shrimp po-boy (two separate sandwiches). The catfish and shrimp were both crunchy and well seasoned & the amount of meat on both sandwiches was abundant. You definitely won't be hungry when you leave. I wish I had saved room for desert because their brownie looked delicious. I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could just for the wait for seating and drinks, but overall it was great & I'll come back with friends. read more

We wanted to sit outside, as it was so nice out, but the server said they weren't seating outside that day. We ordered 3 kids meals, 2 with shrimp and 1 with chicken. My husband had a burger and I ordered the crab legs. I should've asked what the crab legs market price was before ordering, because when we got the bill it was $59, lesson learned, lol. We also had the crab dip appetizer and it was so tasty! The shrimp kids meals were mainly fries and just a couple tiny, breaded shrimp. I had a strawberry mimosa, as they were on special for $4 for brunch. All of the food was delicious, but the amount for the price seemed a bit high. Our food was great tonight but man, our server ruined it! She was incredibly slow, didn't come to the table probably for longer than 10 min after sitting down and then took forever with everything we ordered, and it wasn't kitchen related because people who came in after us had their food before us. Now to the food... our appetizer of the seafood dip was delicious and a little but not overly spicy. I got the voodoo chicken and it was delicious! The balsamic glaze was just a delicious touch. The fired green tomatoes were good too. My husband got the crawfish Mac and he said it was delicious as well. We got the brownie dessert and unfortunately it didn't come out warm. I got voodoo chicken is tasted great but the chicken was tough thought I was going to ask for a steak knife to cut it. Remind me of when you microwave or leave under heat lamp. My party also got beans and rice they it was good and had flavor but left a weird aftertaste and some of the rice was odd , it was sticky and little hard. Also they got cheese grits and they said it was more cheese then grits. That maybe a personal call on cheese to grits ratio but the taste was like cheese in a can taste like. The party also got gumbo - the juju kinda I believe the name- it was very good. We also got queso crawfish dip it was great - will try it again one day when coming through town even if we stop for queso dip and gumbo. Maybe we will find something to bring it every-time we come through. Also on a side note they was leaking water from ceiling and they was no cones/signs to mark the water leaking ceiling in the dinning room. Not my first time here, but it had been a while! I was a little late for brunch but..... I ate! I like this location over Hoover location because it's larger & the menu is more diverse! I got the Margarita for my drink! Delish! My appetizer was the Crawfish Queseux. While it wasn't as hot (temp) as I expected, it was good! For the entreé, I decided on the Catfish Pontchartrain (spelling) with mashed potatoes. It was delicious. The seasoning was on point!! I felt like I was in a NOLA restaurant IN NOLA!! I've been here twice when in the area for work & it's a real favorite. The first time we ate on the balcony, a beautiful day & delicious food. The 2nd time was a week ago & raining so we were inside. I've only been to this location once, but it definitely delivers on quality. We came during the height of Covid problems and they were doing a great job ensuring masks were worn until food/drinks were served and made sure that social distancing was followed (tables weren't too close together). Waitress was very friendly as has been the case at other locations. Food came out really pretty quickly and was fresh and warm. The Jambalaya was sooo good! Came with a hint of spice and was on the dry side (how I like it). Prices are good for this type of place, more expensive than a fast food place, but not over the top for a sit down place. You'll probably run about $12 - $15 per person (including drink). Also, restaurant and bathrooms were very clean and the place was taken good care of. I'd recommend this location to anyone looking for a great Cajun experience. read more

The food has always been hit or miss. A good meal this week is a bad meal next week. However, it was the complete collapse of the quality of service and ridiculous company policy that caused us to walk away once and for all. The waitress yesterday was evidently also the hostess. She seated me, walked away and didn't come back for several minutes. I think that's when she found out she would be waiting on me, too. When I ordered, I asked to sub mashed potatoes for french fries and was told there would be a $2 upcharge. Seriously. They wanted to upcharge me for subbing potatoes for potatoes. With the challenges in the restaurant business, who treats customers that way? That ended it. We've tolerated the Cajun Steamer mediocrity long enough. I walked out without ordering and I won't be back. Fortunately a new Cajun themed restaurant is on the way to Trussville so I'll be able to get my fix soon enough. read more

Came here on a Saturday evening around 6:30 pm. Restaurant wasn't crowded, and we were seated promptly while we waited for others in our party to arrive. The menu had diverse options - fish, seafood, chicken, etc. I had the blackened tilapia tacos (obviously). Tacos were large in size and fish was spicy, but not too spicy. I think everyone else at table enjoyed their food. The minus star was for service: a little too pushy. Waitress had just brought out our dinners, and she immediately asked us if we wanted dessert! We were less than halfway through our meal! We said "give is few minutes", and I guess she took that as no, because five minutes later our checks were placed on the table! Weird.
