This has been my go to bakery for birthday cakes for many years. The cake I ordered was beautiful and delicious but expensive - over $70 for a 6 inch round (without a custom top). It seems as with everything lately prices have gone up. Upon entering the shop, I was informed that cake orders are now done only online. This was a Thursday & the cake was needed for the Tuesday after Labor Day, so I had to pick it up on Saturday before noon per store policy. Despite sitting in my fridge for 3 days it still tasted delicious the day of! The cake looked amazing but the decorative bubbles were not edible :/ which I didn't realize until I went to bite into one of them & the outside filament flaked off . So a mixed bag review - cake was tasty but pricey; a little more attention to better customer service when the store was not busy at all would have been appreciated. read more

Ordered my 29 yr old daughters birthday cake online and found out from her that my wife gave me the wrong info, but the next day when they call to confirm your order that it was no problem, and paid for it and I was to come down Saturday at 11:30a to pick it up. Well Friday night I was up almost till sunrise Saturday because of an unrelated incident, and I slept till 12:45! I panicked and talked to them and since her birthday wasn't till Monday I had no problem waiting till Monday and they were able to hold it till then. Monday morning came and I picked up a beautifully made Marble cake with Strawberry filling and Whipped Cream icing. Everyone who had some remarked on how good it was, including myself and I'm not a big cake guy. Really delicious. It reminded me of when I was a kid for whatever reason, I can't tell you, it just did! Over all a great experience, and dealing with everyone there was such a breath of fresh air. Very easy to talk with their genuinely friendly staff. This was my second time using them for a cake many years ago, and I will continue to use them for my cake needs. I contacted this bakery a few days before a birthday party with a custom request. It took them two days to call me back and say they couldn't do a custom order on such short notice and I'd better come into the store and pick up a cake from the fridge and they could customize the lettering. Okay, I was in a bit of a time crunch, so fine. I went in and purchased a cake for 6-8 people for $48. Custom lettering was done right away and very nicely. They even confirmed with me the exact wording, which I appreciated. What I did not appreciate was that they have a credit card fee that was not disclosed anywhere. The cake ended up closer to $50 due to this fee. Had I known there was a fee, I would have paid cash. Sigh. The cake was visually impressive and made for some nice photos. Everyone loved the buttercream frosting but the actual cake portion left something to be desired. A bit dry and artificial tasting. Several people ate the frosting without finishing the cake. The credit card fee also left a bad taste. Not sure I'd order a cake from here again. read more

The owner was very helpful in providing the vegan ingredients for us to be sure they were "safe" for family members with significant allergies. After we got home from picking up our order we realized we were short part of it. I called immediately and the service was excellent! We went back over and they fulfilled the rest of our order and even added a couple more cupcakes. It has taken me over a year to write this. This bakery has been my families go to since I was 16. For my 28th birthday I ordered a cake from coccadotts as we always do. Right off the bat: the piping on this cake looks like it was done by an amateur, which is fine...maybe, but like I said, I've been so loyal to these guys, I expect more. The cake was absolutely nothing like the picture I provided BUT, the issue was the staff being uncooperative to fix it for me while I was there at the bakery. That is what irritated me the most. I left unhappy with a cake I didn't like and went on my way because it kept getting WORSE with the sloppy attempts to make it right. But anyways when it was time to eat the cake, I had specifically asked for strawberry cake with no chunks of strawberries in it. Guess what I got? A cake with chunks of strawberries in it. It's almost like they tried to ruin the cake. At this point I emailed the manager, Mike I believe and told him everything. He said the best he could do since they are a small business is offer me a 6 pack of cupcakes on my next visit. Really sad to say goodbye to a bakery that has been so special to me for so long but my business clearly does not mean anything to them anyway. I was in a panic this morning when I was told by my daughter that she forgot to order my Grandaughter's 22nd birthday cake. We need the cake for tomorrow, and I immediately thought well maybe Cocodots could do this for me. I called them as soon as they opened. I spoke to the lady she put me on hold a few times and got it all figured out to get the exact cake that my wanted! I received a confirmation email stating that cake order was complete and I needed to make payment by 4 PM today. I tried calling them back this morning just to triple check that all the instructions were correct. Nobody answered the phone so I thought OK. I called back about 2 o'clock and was told that the payment needed to be made by 1145 and that my cake was sold to somebody else again she put me on hold a few more times to there was something she could do was told there was nothing she could do because it wasn't paid by 11:45! Ordered a 6" cake for my birthday. I can't say I've been so hideously disappointed in a cake that cost 42$ dollars. For starters, it looks gorgeous. Then you find out those decorations are in fact plastic. Hopefully someone reads this before they make the same mistake my poor gran did, and crunch into a solid plastic bauble with a WIRE IN IT. Disappointing experience with Coccadotts and trying to order a wedding cake. We ordered the wedding cake sample box and everything tasted great and ordering that was easy and straight forward. When my fiancés family picked up the order, Mike was pleasant and said to contact him directly when placing the wedding cake order. That's where the service stopped. I tried calling multiple times over several weeks, leaving messages for Mike, to discuss ordering my wedding cake. He called back once and I never heard back from him after that. They look awesome, but they don't taste it. I found the frosting on my Mocha cupcake to be cold and hard, not at all fresh and creamy. Gross really. Another reviewer mentioned the frosting tasted more like lard than anything else and I'd totally agree. The mocha filling was just ok, nothing CW worthy or anything. If you've been to a Sprinkles cupcakery, then you know what a real cupcakery is. This place just doesn't cut it. Bunch of teenage girls working the counter, but I doubt they could tell you anything at all about the ingredients being used here. Good location with just a little bit of parking and I saw only 1 or 2 small tables inside. Plan on getting yours to go or just skip it, as I will be from now on. read more

The cake turned out exactly as requested, and it was also the most affordable among the several shops I had contacted in the Capital Region. Also impressed with the customer service, Coccadotts was one of the few shops who responded to my inquiry almost immediately and then stayed engaged throughout the whole ordering process. Dinged one star because the fondant overlay was a little wrinkled on the bottom of the cake and because the the pistachio buttercream filling, while delicious buttercream, was lacking the overall pistachio flavor. read more

I don't think I'll be returning after this experience. Update: Upgraded to 3 stars for customer service. Rachael was kind enough to reach out and try to rectify by offering a full remake of the cake and delivery at no additional cost. She also has refunded the full amount I was charged for the cake, although it seems I was charged a full sheet price for the half sheet cake to begin with. Ordering process is a nightmare. They will not take an order in the store(I tried) and make you place online and then they send you a quote but then you have to wait for an email and then have to then call them to make a payment. After placing my order I called to make payment and kept getting a busy signal and then finally someone answered and said someone else had to call me back to make a payment . I missed their call and they left a message demanding payment by end of the day or my order was going to be cancelled. I tried calling back twice and got busy signals again, then I finally got through to cancel my order. We chose to work with Coccadotts through our wedding venue of Stablegate. Rachel and her team did an amazing job. We chose the extra moist vanilla cake with strawberry filling and butter cream icing. It was the most perfect and delicious cake. So much flavor and perfect for summer wedding. I described what I wanted the cake to look like and she provided to a T. Her flower work is out of this world. I was extremely pleased with the service. My only critique is that I didn't like having to go through my venue to communicate my cake vision to Rachel. I think that that is something they should look at and maybe change in the future. It's kind of annoying to have a middleman when you just want to explain what the vision of the cake is. They corrected momentarily but by the time my purchase was complete, masks "slipped" to previous place. I prefer to give feedback gently,directly, and in person. Ordered my cake through my wedding venue, Birch Hill Estate and it was amazing! Their wedding cake sample box is extremely generous with 3 mini wedding cakes, 3 fillings, and 3 frostings. It was more than enough for my husband, myself and our parents to try! We went with a spice cake with apple filling and vanilla buttercream and everyone at our wedding loved it! Our cake was done EXACTLY how I wanted, and our special request of a tribute to my dog was perfect as well! I came here because of their reputation, though the Yelp reviews aren't good, and now I understand why. The inside is small with mostly cases housing the pretty cupcakes. Only 2 small tables to sit down. It was crowded when I arrived and people were seated at both tables. It was awkward trying to stand in line and not bump into the people seated. I bought a Jameson (yeah, like the Irish Whiskey Jameson's) cupcake for $2.75. The cake was moist, but overpowered with cinnamon. The filling flavor was undetectable. The chocolate frosting was fudgy. As a Cupcake Wars winner, I expected more to be totally honest. The cupcake was pretty, but the flavor was disappointing. And just like many other Yelpers have stated, their cupcakes are really small...about 1/2 to 1/3 the size you'd get at most cupcakeries. They didn't bother to cut around the figure and included my brown rug background in the cupcake decoration. Small cupcakes, too. Fast forward to this year and my husband surprised me with a cake. Many have heard of their name on the Food Network's 'Cupcake Wars' or had a taste from friends and family's celebrations and gatherings. Next to a garage, it has built a little empire of frosting shots, hand decorated cookies, cuppycakes, cake shakes, cake pops, pies, buttercream and fondant cakes, and cake balls. There may be more I am missing! I've had both good and not so good experiences with the cakes and cupcakes here, as there have been times they were deliciously moist and satisfied my sweet tooth, and fairly equal times I've had dry cake and greasy tasting buttercream that makes it hard to wipe off using a napkin (use more napkins?) I find most of the cookies heavily frosted and if I were to go on a frosting crave, I'd rather have one of the cupcakes. I like how they have unique flavors for different seasons and holidays. Just don't get the grape, watermelon, or root beer ones because they are quite artificially flavored to my tastebuds unless you are truly a kid at heart. I like the apple cider donut, plain vanilla buttercream, strawberry champagne, peanut butter dark chocolate, and the OMG! cupcake the most. They carry many cupcakes and cakes made ready to go in store for all your spontaneous needs. Special orders are taken for those who want specific designs and such. Once a while I come to indulge in sweets but it will not be a frequent thing, as much as I'd like to be induced into a diabetic coma (or not so much).
