We really enjoyed the smoked chicken wings with Alabama sauce. The smokiness of the chicken was so good paired with the tangy sauce. Hubby enjoyed his pork chop. It was a huge cut but he always orders pork chop and never complains unless it's over cooked. I wasn't that hungry and ordered a regular garden salad and was convinced to add an avocado which was ripe but didn't add anything to the salad. I did like the sunflower seeds in the salad. There wasn't anything else on the entree menu that appealed to me. Maybe it would've been better to order a couple of appetizers as my meal. I could have consumed the entire plate if chicken wings by myself. Bathrooms are in the rear, in a separate small building. My biggest disappointment was the cheddar biscuits. It was chewy-like, dense and arrived lukewarm. Likely reheated and the dough was probably overworked. There was no cheddar inside the biscuit but coated on the outside. It came with a few biscuits but after eating one, I couldn't eat anymore because of the texture and chewiness. The honey butter (couldn't taste any honey) didn't help either. I make and try out different cheddar biscuit recipes at home and this would be a recipe I'd toss out.

First things first, we jump on an ATV and head out to the vineyard. Our girl Madeleine takes us all around. This is a family affair folks. Dad is the wine maker. We will meet him later. We learn all the facts. They are the only cidery in Napa. We call this versatile. If you don't like wine, problem solved. They'll give you cider. I was sold quick quick because I bought three bottles. We also learned that this family makes balsamic vinegar. Not the type you buy in the store. This is the 25 year commitment stuff. Their vinegar is older than some marriages. Let that sink in. They're only in year three so this vinegar is not available to me and you yet. Stay tuned. Natalia, our hostess and educator, is absolutely amazing. She brings great energy, deep knowledge, and makes each tasting feel personal and memorable. The only downside from our most recent visit was learning that the complimentary cheese plate is no longer automatically offered to members of certain tiers. That was a small touch that really set The Prisoner apart from other wineries and made the experience feel even more special. It was something we genuinely looked forward to every time. We still love everything about The Prisoner and will continue to visit and support, but we do hope they reconsider bringing that perk back--it made a great experience even better.

It is a 5-course luncheon with wine pairings hosted in their private enoteca overlooking the vines, complete with a personal attendant and private chef to curate the experience. ​The food was delicious, the wine selection was superb--including their Howell Mountain Cabernets (Cold Springs, Croquet, and Cima)--and the private room was the perfect intimate space. It was such a relief to have a private area where I didn't have to worry about disturbing other guests while having an infant in tow! ​However, I'm giving this experience 4 stars instead of 5 because it felt surprisingly generic for a winery that typically excels at personalization. In advance of our reservation, I was sent a questionnaire requesting our music preferences and celebration details, but neither were acknowledged during the visit. Why ask for that information if it isn't going to be used? I tried quite a few different wines, and really liked how there are a few unique offerings here that you can't find elsewhere - I ended up getting a bottle of their Province, the Farm, and their late harvest orange muscat. PEJU is also one of the few wineries with a permit to serve food. If I had known ahead of time, I would've planned to eat here! The rilettes were super tempting, but Joseph advised that if I was planning to eat a meal afterward to stick to the chips and dip - this ended up being quite a generous portion as well, and I really enjoyed the goat cheese truffle dip alongside the wine tasting :) Overall, PEJU is definitely a beautiful winery to visit with excellent service, and I'll definitely be back!
