I've always gone to the Cake Chef's Cookie Jar bakery on Forest Avenue because I crave their cookies, cupcakes and brownie bites. But when I needed a cheesecake for a BBQ, I decided to try their other location on Jewett Ave. The staff there was friendly, as well as very helpful. A really nice gentleman behind the counter even gave me a small sample of one of their cream puffs. It was fantastic, as was the "Crazy Cream Puff" I had already ordered. Honestly, I really don't need all those calories but you only live once. That "Crazy Cream puff" was even better than the one I sampled. It had a lighter cream inside and was huge, hence the name "Crazy Cream Puff". Lol But that Cheesecake....OMG, it was to die for, and definitely a big hit at the BBQ. Shockingly, it was only a plain cheesecake. And anyone who was fortunate enough to get a piece that day, raved about how wonderful it truly was! Thank you for making me fat Cake Chef. Wife is pregnant and I ate the last slice of carrot cake she had brought home from her shower without offering her any. She walked in on me shoving the last bite into my mouth, and WOW... if looks could kill. So I went here for an apology carrot cake. They had one ready to go, and it wasn't even particularly expensive. I liked the raisins in the cake, and the density/moistness of the cake, and that the frosting wasn't too sweet. Really, my only complaint was that the icing to cake ratio was way off- not enough cake at all. But other than that, yea- really nice carrot cake. Also I made sure that when we finished the cake we both had a slice at the same time so no dirty looks. read more

The specialty cake I ordered which cost $200 came out looking like a 5yr old frosted it. This was after a week and a half of trying to get in touch with the cake "decorator," who never actually got in contact with me to discuss how the cake would look. No employees at the bakery were able to tell me how they would be able to decorate the cake. They told me to email me pictures then just kept saying they couldn't do exactly what I wanted. I had to have them fix the cake when I went to pick it up, then brought it home and decorated it with sprinkles and candy tombstones I made myself. Very disappointed with the service and overall experience. This is what the cake looks like after decorating it more at home. Definitely expected more for the money and better service. read more

I've been planning my graduation party for six months and I knew I wanted my cake from this bakery. I imagined two tier cake with rosette icing but I took estimates from a few bakeries and it was too much for a graduation party. I went on cake chef photos and found this photo and took inspiration. I also knew I didn't want any basic flavor chocolate or vanilla so I chose a mocha. Cake chef sampled me flavor of the mock mousse and I fell in love. The ombré colors was also amazing. Been raving about this place ever since my friend bought me a red velvet cake from here and finally came to the store for the first time today. Red velvet cupcake is still ahhhmazing. Its soft and fluffy. Frosting is as awesome as ever. Service is nice too. I called them when I was in Brooklyn to ask if they had 2 dozen red velvet cupcakes available for me to buy. They didn't have anymore, but they said they will bake it for me within 30 minutes. I drove over there and got there in like 25 minutes. The cupcakes were already done! Awesommmme. I love this place. Do you like cake? I love cake! When I found out I was going to be moving to this miserable island they call Staten, I wasn't too happy. I mean sure my friends weren't that far away, and not much really changed, but I mean still Staten Island, it kind of sucks... a lot! But just like every cloud there was a silver lining, the delicious cakes that my cousins had been bringing to my house for holidays for years, they came from a bakery only a few blocks away... Needless to say when I moved out here 5yrs ago I weighted in at about 145lbs, within a year of living so close to this gem I was easily 170lbs (I will never get that gym rat badge). These cakes are soooo good, they are sinfully good. I used to work as a bartender, and one Sunday I knew the manager wasn't going to be there so I brought one in for the boys... Every Sunday became cake day. When you see 10-15 big dudes huddled over a little red raspberry tart cake you need no other validation as to how awesome this place is. Just a quick breakdown of the awesomeness: raspberry tart cake, French cheese cake with Oreo crust and raspberries, ice box cheese cake, blueberry melt aways, pumpkin melt aways (around Oct-Nov), coconut cake... Really generally everything I have ever eaten there is great, you do get stuck eating the same thing over and over again though as the prospect of not having it is to much to bear. Also and this must be pointed out NO CREDIT CARDS! This business is cash only, there are ATMs in the two stores next to it though. read more

Even now after moving to NJ, Cake Chef is still our favorite go-to bakery. The staff and owner are very friendly and accommodating. Obviously the cakes are delicious. My favorite cake to order is their vanilla cake with chocolate mousse stuffed with bananas. I recently ordered a cake to have served at our super bowl party and I wasn't very specific about how I wanted the cake decorated since it wasn't for a special occasion. However, they went above and beyond and I ended up with the cutest super bowl cake ever. read more

There are a few reasons why I feel as though Cake Chef wholeheartedly earns its five stars of merit: 1. Cannolis-delicious cream, chocolate chips, crunchy yet sturdy pastry. I was asked if I wanted powder sugar. As far as I'm concerned it should be a standard ingredient on the dinner table, along with bacon. 2. Prosciutto bread-They only have it on weekends, it is the only thing they import from Brooklyn, and it sells out quick. Here is why: It is crusty, yet light bread with delicious chunks of ham. Worth a road trip alone if you don't live on the island! 3. The Service-I asked about the bread and was told that they didn't have any since it was Wednesday but that I could always call on a Friday night and have them put some aside for me. What a bunch of sweethearts! 4. Prices-Although we only got cannolis, they were only $2 a piece. The place that I consider them to be the best around my way are $.75 more and nowhere nearly as good. I recently purchased a 7 layer cookie cake, you know the Rainbow cookies with the red, yellow, green layers, for my cousins birthday. It was so good, I went back the next month and got it for my husbands birthday. It was rich, dense and delicious. A quarter sheet cake is $40 and was more than enough to feed 13 of us. We decided on a fresh strawberry shortcake and a variety of their delicious cookies. My fav the lemon flips, choc sandwich cookies, pecan apricot bars, rainbow dip. All were super good and fresh. I went to CakeChef due to the high reviews and delicious cake and paid for a decal only to be lied to . Instead of a decal, a piece of paper was pasted on the cake and I was specifically told when picking up the cake that its a decal and its edible. I am extremely disappointed and will never use this bakery again or recommend them to anyone else. If they were unable to do the cake I wanted honesty would have gone a much longer way. read more

For 40 dollars, I got the prettiest black forest cake for my birthday. If I had to pick one word for Cake Chef sweets its 'quality'. The cake was heavy but it wasn't too sweet and had a ton of cherries in every slice. They definitely don't skimp out on ingredients here which means that everyone was impressed and I didn't need to spend a lot. It was really simple to make an order and pick it up- no issues.
