This is my first time getting my birthday cake from this establishment. I ordered a dairy free yellow raspberry cake. Placing the order was easy and accommodating. They did let me know that the icing will taste different cause it is dairy free and I have a choice to do lactose free whipped cream or vegan cream. They had an assortment of options I was surprised by that. I told them I wanted my cake to be purple and decorated with cute flowers. They said they can only do white frosting and purple flowers. Usually places will fulfill your request but I guess they want their cakes to taste like actual whipped cream and not like food coloring. The flavor of my cake was pretty good pretty fresh. The raspberry filling flavoring was a bit too much for me I was expecting a smaller than a layer. I wish I would've said something. The decoration of the cake was not the best at all but the taste of it makes up for it. So if you're looking for a beautifully decorated cake definitely send them a picture for reference. If not let my cake be a testament to what they do when they freestyle. All in all I will come back again to try some of their other desserts. read more

Was looking everywhere for a butt cake! And found it here ... a bit pricey but worth your money! and the actual cake inside made perfectly. They are very good at giving you advice on how to do the cake but whatever you wanna do they can do it! I got my cake with buttercream and not fondant to try and reduce the price and they were fine with that as long as I knew it would look like the butt had cellulite. But it still came out very smooth looking and had the inside in an Oreo kind of flavor which was chocolate cake and creme and it was fire!! ‍ They were very polite and I kept changing my mind but they were very patient with me as well. I stopped in to try this bakery today. Everything was really fresh and good. I asked the girl working what she recommended because it was my first time. She recommended the apple fritter and this donut with chocolate drizzle on top. I really enjoyed both of them, they are not overly sweet, and the dough was fresh and cooked really nicely. I also tried the chocolate cupcake with buttercream on top, and that was also delicious. I think my favorite thing about this bakery is they have reasonable prices and they have gluten-free which you don't see at many locations. My three items were $5 read more

This is my second experience with Cakes by Karen and they have both been great. They did my wedding cake last year, working with me to get the look and flavors I wanted. They also helped me with a specialty surprise groom cake to look like an Air Jordan show, and they did a an amazing job. It got so many compliments at the wedding. This past weekend I ordered a heart shaped cake to celebrate my sisters engagement. I sent them picture examples from Pinterest and they recreated exactly as I'd hoped. It was my mothers 84th birthday and I wanted a lemon chiffon cake. I have to say it was the best cake ever. My family loved it. It was absolutely perfect. These are not easy to make and the texture, flavor were flawless and the best we have ever had. This was my first time going to this bakery and I will never go anywhere else. Biggest thank you to cakes by Karen. Came here to have a two tier dino cake for our son's 5th bday party. I provided an idea and picture of what we would like the cake to look like. It came out Amazing!!! Bottom tier was chocolate with strawberry filling, top tier was Banana with Fresh Banana filling. We got rave reviews on the Banana at the party. We couldn't be more happy with the outcome. The cake was the perfect shade of green, as the birthday boy wanted a green cake. Lol the staff was amazing. My entire family uses Cakes by Karen, & have been happy for years. My husband & I have used them for EVERY big occasion: my bridal shower, our wedding, my first son's baby shower, & my first son's birthday. Earlier this month, my 2nd son was turning 1, so of course, wanted to order his cakes from Cakes by Karen. Originally, I wanted 2, round 14" cakes & a smash cake. After placing my order, I got an email that the price would be almost $250!!! I was literally SHOCKED. I canceled 1 of my 14" cakes, & still ended up paying almost $140! I even sent an email stating that I was shocked by the price, especially with all of the business my family alone has given them (not including referrals!!), & their customer service was just awful, there wasn't even a tad of empathy. The only reason I am giving any stars is because the cake & frosting on the main cake was great. Even though I SPECIFICALLY asked for NO FONDANT, there was a TON on my son's smash cake & also on the main cake. My son nearly choked on the giant/inedible mickey on the top of the cake! Neither cake was decorated with the amount of effort that we paid for. I had sent like 3 different ideas for each cakes design, just to give ideas, & yep... NOT IMPRESSED. They even frosted my son's smash cake solely with deep red frosting!! So he looked like a zombie eating it & it stained EVERYTHING. For as many years as they have been in business, WHY would you make a baby's smash cake RED? Cakes by Karen just lost business from a family with decades of loyalty. They are no longer the lovable, small business that truly cares about their customers.... what a shame! read more

I phoned in an edible picture cake for my mother in laws 70's on Tuesday and asked if it was possible to pick up Saturday at 7a, and it was NOT a problem at all for them!! They were VERY accommodating! The cake was soft delish, and very fresh. It looked fantastic and everyone loved it! Unfortunately once I arrived I discovered they make paczki, fritters and cronuts....GOOD LORD, more reasons to come back!! Great customer service for this 1st time customer, ill even put aside the fact that I had to drive 10 minutes out of my way to find a darn ATM because YES they ONLY take CASH! I first went to Cakes by Karen in high school for paczkis, and when it came time to decide on a wedding cake vendor in 2011, they were my first place I went to for cake tasting, and I was sold. We didn't want anything too wild for the design, just a three-tier cake. We ended up with a gorgeous 3 tier with flowers in our wedding colors. The cake was delicious- French vanilla cake with creme brûlée filling and white cake with their raspberry filling- all with their signature buttercream. The cake was delicious, and even was good after being in a freezer for a year on our anniversary. We ended up getting the same flavors last October for my parents' 30th anniversary party. I made sugar skulls as a cake topper, and it was decorated so well to go along with it. We've had fantastic experiences in working with Cakes by Karen, and I recommend them highly! read more

Ordered a cake here for my brother's birthday. They did an excellent job and made a really awesome cake. The order, however, ended up being wrong, despite me specifically asking for something & being told it was possible. It really wasn't that big of a deal-cake is cake. But I could imagine that would be an issue for some people. Also, when we picked up our cake we bought some cookies to use as party favors, and we didn't realize until we had left that she had packed up the wrong cookies. The desserts here are delicious, and the customer service is great, I think we may of just had some bad luck with the orders being incorrect. Not sure if I'd give it another shot though, since I've dealt with other bakeries that haven't made similar mistakes. read more

I wanted a special made cake for my daughter and found this business on Yelp. I contacted them by email and Tammy contacted me within two hours. As I was describing what I wanted, she rushed me off the phone and told me to bring CASH the next day. I was trying to ask if the business was wheelchair accessible before she got off the phone. This didn't sit well with me so I called the next day to see if the business was accessible and did they take debit cards. She said cash only but when I told her I was in a wheelchair, she offered no solution as to how I was going to meet with her and give her my business (money). It was all very nonchalant and I felt like I could be throwing my money away because of how rushed I felt. She seemed perturbed that I called her on the same number she used to call me the previous day. That did it for me. Even though on Yelp it says wheelchair accessible...IT ISN'T. I'm so fed up with businesses that advertise that and aren't. Do you know how much hassle it is to be led to believe a business is accessible and isn't? You literally have to turn around in your car and GO HOME. It's annoying. I wanted to give a local business my money but Tammy just didn't seem that interested in helping me. read more
