Very quick and service was good. Seems like only 1 technician was working, and there was one person ahead of me. I waited about 10 minutes for them to be done, and then my car had it's smog check done in about 10 minutes as well. They have a pretty big waiting area with ample seating and hand sanitizer was at the area where you pay. They honored a coupon they had on their website with no issues, I paid $45 for my smog check and certificate (service was done on a 2013 Nissan Altima). They send your info to the DMV electronically if you bring your paperwork with you. No haggling or unnecessary car advice, which was greatly appreciated as I went by myself as a young woman! Thank you for the quick service and hassle free experience.

I don't know how this place have a 5**** review. If I can give 0 stars I would have! This place is so ignorant and has no knowledge about cars - this is why: I have a K&N aftermarket Cold air filter on my vehicle that I bought; I made sure that this filter is legal for my vehicle. I bought it from Pep Boys over 16 years ago, when the vehicle was only three years old. Every other smog place passed my vehicle all theses years! This mechanic checked on the California DMV car smog info. The engine size and years were all wrong. Now 2022 I go to this place because of all the good reviews. This guy didn't pass my car because my vehicle's year didn't show up with the part number. Are you kidding me??? WTH??? So because of that he did not pass me, however according to the paperwork my car did pass smog check. I was so irritated about this whole situation. Yet he the mechanic told me my car didn't pass. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. This place don't know what they are doing. People like this are not real mechanics, any Joe blow off the street can do his job when they are properly trained to do machinery. 0 stars for this place. read more

Have been coming here a while but today is the last time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Owner has always been kinda short with me, not sure how he is with others, but today was special.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My car has recently been fixed but for whatever reason the check engine light is still on. I was told my car couldn't have the light on in order to do the smog check. I should fix it and then drive a lot like out in the desert. Okay, no problem. He still asked for the car keys so I'm thinking maybe he'll still test it. He gets in, revs the engine twice, gives me the keys back. The serviceman said I needed a new one. So I come back today with a new cap to get the truck tested and this guy isn't there. I called in the morning and ask if they have an opening for a smog check. When I arrived the man behind the counter asked questions that I never thought the smog check people should ask like did you have any recent repairs on the car. Well the wait was only like 10 mins and only cost $60. The last place I went asked for $100 and did not give anywhere near the customer service I received. read more

Very good experience with shop, needed test only for my 1999 vehicle and it was painless. The wait time was not bad at all. The smog tech was nice and easy going, my discount voucher from Yelp was used for a discount. Great price for a test only older vehicle after the coupon. I will visit this shop for a smog check in the future and highly recommend it as well. read more

I was procrastinating getting my smog test because I didn't want to spend forever at a mechanic shop. I walked in after 2 pm and there were 2 customers ahead of me. He pulled my car in and out himself and my car was done so quickly with plenty of time left to pick up my kid from school. Hassle free. Efficient with all the paperwork I needed!!! This was the first year I needed a smog check in order to renew my car registration online and I didn't really know where to go so I just looked on Yelp for some place near my home. I found Cal smog and called for a quote and the price was very reasonable. I also used the $10 for $25 deal that I saw on Yelp which made it an even better deal. I was helped by a very sweet man when I arrived and I was in and out in about 15 minutes. It was quick and easy and as early as the next morning the dmv system had my cars updated smog check and I was able to pay my registration online. Definitely recommend this place! read more

I needed a smog done before getting to work. I found these guys with good reviews and within my reach. Upon arrival I tell the guy that I found them on Yelp. With only one person in front I had no problem waiting. Shortly after he did my car and let me know it was ready. Before hand I purchased the Yelp Deal. When I showed him the Yelp Deal he said it would turn out to be the same. I told him then what's the point of this deal if they will not honor it. He said I'll adjust the invoice. During him doing something on the computer, I look at thier website and see they have a standard price and show him that. He said oh that does work anymore. This immidietly becomes the red flag. I don't have time to argue with the man. The owner needs to update the website, secondly take down the Yelp deals if they will not honor them. The only good thing about that place is the fast service. read more

This is the best place to get your vehicle Smog tested. They're quick, professional, and very courteous. The smog test information (if it passes) is directly sent to the DMV and the next day (at least, that's when I did it) pay for your renewal online and BOOOOM... done. They even give you the option to purchase a $25 off coupon for $10. "Whaaaat!!" you say... they have the coupon deal on their yelp page. Get it and you'll save! We are a "STAR Test Only" station that can perform smog checks for all type of vehicles. Based on California law, we cannot repair cars, therefore we offer an unbiased inspection of your vehicle because we do not have anything to gain if your car fails the test. We can provide you with a list of certified smog repair facilities in the area, which you may choose from, or take to your own mechanic. Every initial smog test that fails is entitled to a free retest. We are in a large, industrial bay that can also accommodate busses, limos, and RV's. There is ample parking and room to maneuver these large vehicles. Call and mention Yelp for special pricing on these vehicles. We offer a large, airy, comfortable waiting area with TV, while you wait, or if you choose, you may wait near the test area and watch your vehicle as it goes through the testing process. We have friendly staff that are there to help you.

Truly disappointed with this location. Lorenzo, the service advisor tried to charge us $25 for the…read morebrake inspection upon initial arrival. When I pointed out the banner at their shop that says "Free Brake Inspection" and their website which states Free Brake Inspection, he retorted that their website also states they do free smog checks, but he states they do not even do smog. (When relooking at their website, they do not mention free smog anyways.) Lorenzo stated the brake inspections were not free and the website got it wrong. When I asked him for the person in charge he stated Erika and Ezekiel were in the parts dept. It is a shame Lorenzo was the only advisor handling a long line at check in. He stated Corporate was aware of the brake inspection charge discrepancy. If they are aware and he is aware, why try to charge a customer for a "Free" brake inspection? After leaving our car here, we heard the next day of a list of repairs needed. Lorenzo stated they believed our brake caliper was seized but could not confirm it. He attempted to charge us an additional $289.47 for the brake caliper service and $152.10 for the brake fluid service in addition to the brakes and rotor replacement service charge we were expecting. The issue is that when we asked Lorenzo if he could confirm if the brake caliper was truly needed to be replaced, he could just say he highly suggests replacing it. From the beginning, this place was trying to scam. I reached out to Alex's Auto Repair in Cypress, who confirmed they could verify if the brake caliper would be needed. Alex's Auto Repair stated there would be no need to waste extra money if he could confirm the issue. Alex's Auto Repair serviced us, and simply lubricated our caliper without us needing to pay over $800 for the whole brake service like Downey Care Care was quoting us. Alex's Auto Repair took the time to verify the issue, charging us less than half of what Downey Care Care center wanted to charge. My issue with this location is they would have happily overcharged us for a service that was not needed. Take your car to Alex's Auto Repair, save your time and money. While Downey Care Care Center was busy playing around, we had to spend extra time and money booking a rental car. (Photo on the left is from Alex's Auto Repair who took the time to verify the concern and lubricate our caliper. The photo on the right includes one page of many pages of services recommended by Downey Care Center including replacing the brake caliper and fluid exchange had we chosen to go that route.) Makes me question if the remaining suggested repairs (not all pictured below) by Downey Care Care Center were even necessary.

The extra charge for SUVs is ridiculous, especially when it's the same test and same state fee. Nothing about it felt honest. The owner was rude, easily irritated, and acted like basic customer questions were some kind of personal attack. If you want to be treated like an inconvenience while paying more than expected, this is the place for you. There are too many decent smog shops around town to waste your time here. Bad attitude, misleading pricing, and zero professionalism. Hard pass.

Yen took care of the muffler delete and Lee and two other very helpful gentlemen took care of my coil overs. I have to say I am very satisfied with the quality of work for the value. They quoted me way under anyone else that I had called prior to going with them. I will recommend A-1 Muffler Express to all of my friends and family. They all make you feel that you're part of the family. They offered me coffee and cold water while I waited for my car to be done. One thing to remember, they are experts in mufflers, exhaust systems, and not any other type of work. But it never hurts to ask if they can do it for you!

I needed a smog test for my renewal and found this place on a referral of a friend. Glad I did! A little hard to find at first. It's behind the Jack-in-the-Box at Imperial and Bellflower. Large, airy shop with plants and bushes inside. The technician was efficient and very careful with my car. He explained what the test was and all costs up front. They don't do any repairs there, so there's no conflict of interest on up-selling. You either pass or don't, and they give you a 2nd test FREE if you fail the first.
