I have been a loyal customer for a long time bringing in two vehicles multiple times and spending thousands of dollars with them. Recently I brought a third vehicle my SUV in for an oil change. I had purchased two air filters and asked the service Manger if he could put them in as a courtesy. Instead of showing any customer appreciation he wanted to charge me $150 for a job that takes 10 minutes to do.I said I will do it myself. It took about 2 hours for an oil change and the manger said they had a hard time taken my oil filter off next time I come in it will cost more MONEY. If you claim you work on all cars don't blame the customer. When I went to the dealer it took about 30 minutes .I will be taking all three of my vehicles elsewhere. | read more

Went for inspection and failed. When I explained the time it would take for the parts to arrive, they were understanding and gave an extension to the 10 day free re-test timeline. About another week. Then when my headlights were misadjusted, they fixed them for 80 bucks and I passed. Nice people and upfront. read more

They left a big nick-scratch on my bumper right before the tailpipe. Whoever was inserting or removing the emission device that's inserted into the tailpipe was careless. I understand my car has chips but the nick is too big to go unnoticed. I've been to several smog checks prior to them and the nick wasn't there until after bringing it to them. I emailed JJ and was told I'd be given a call back the ff day- but that was a week and a half ago. The bmw i brought to them is considered a classic and anyone would find this an utter carelessness. Its a project car that's driven less than 500 miles per year and usually covered as seen in one of the photos. But hey, since it's not theirs, they can just carelessly scratch it. In addition, i still haven't gotten my registration sticker after passing the smog since they sold me and installed a new catalytic converter. All i really need is just a touch up paint worth $30-$50 and for them address this concern as he stated but looks like it's not important to any of them. read more

Took my car to be smogged and they told me I did not pass due to an oil leak and oxygen sensor. I took the car to my mechanic and it was bogus fail! Nothing was wrong with the car, took the car to another smog check and it passed. They took my money and wanted me to fix something that had nothing to do with the smog check. **Please read before going here -- especially for a smog check.** I'm officially done with this shop. They may be good at repairs, but at what cost to the customer? I took my '97 car in for a STAR smog test. The car *passed*, but JJs Auto refused to issue the certificate because my catalytic converter didn't have a serial number. I've owned this car since 1997 and have never once had that be an issue. JJs then told me they could "fix" the problem by replacing the converter with one that had a serial number -- and quoted me an outrageous price to do it. When I asked if they could lower the cost, they said no, so I left to look elsewhere. At this point, I felt stuck. Once a shop performs the smog test, other shops won't redo it since they can get flagged. So I had no real choice but to replace the converter. I found a muffler shop that did the job for **half** of what JJs quoted. Still expensive, but at least reasonable. After the replacement, I rushed back to JJs, and this time they issued the certificate -- but not before charging me an additional $8 on top of the original $90+ I had already paid. I asked whether the catalytic-converter serial-number requirement was a new California law. They said no, it's been around for a while -- then added that "most shops are lazy and don't check under the car... you just happened to be the lucky customer we decided to look for it." That's when it became clear: they **could** have passed me the first time. They simply chose not to. It felt like a blatant upsell and a total rip-off. Dishonest shops eventually get exposed. **I will never return to their shop.** read more

A opossum hid out under the hood of my car while I was recuperating from a leg fracture and surgery. Mr. Opossum did a lot of damage. JJ took care of my issue extremely well. NEXT JJ fixed the auto AC problem, when it came up a couple months later. Perfect! THEN the AC quit working again (I sorta kinda quietly blamed JJ.) THEN I took in my prized mazda miata to see Dr. JJ. SHOCK of all shocks - Mr. Opposum was back to his dirty tricks again! JJ showed me the opossum nest. Yuck!!! JJ took care of it ever so nicely and I returned later with Krispy Kreme donuts for our fave mechanic. I wouldn't take my car to anyone else. He's our super hero... Today I took my car to another shop to have my oil changed because I have been asked to change my oil pan several times at JJ's. Once I got there they told me that my oil pan is not the issue but the place I was going to completely stripped the plug and have been putting tons of silicone on it to prevent oil dripping. JJ's told me to buy a new oil pan for a while for something that they DAMAGED! A couple of months ago my alternator went out and I had recently changed this at JJ's. When I got there they suddenly had no recollection of this being done when I paid over $500 to do this. I still had my original alternator in my car. I came to this place and trusted them as I am a Coptic orthodox Egyptian female but I cannot believe how I was deceived. I work hard for my money and to be robbed several times is a shame to my community by my own people. No stars. My husband had me call around town to do a smog test on our most recent collector's car. The first place he went to, SB Automotive, said their machine was down. I called 6 other places. Two of which didn't answer the phone. One had the machine, but didn't have a mechanic to make necessary repairs. Another had a broken DYNO machine. One more had the machine and a mechanic on hand, but McDreamee said he wasn't "down with that ghetto shop." Lol. Finally, a very nice guy (I think his name was David) at JJ's shop answered right away and gave me all the information I needed in a timely manner. McDreamee drove the car there right away. He dropped it off at about 10:00 a.m. and I got a phone call that the car was ready for pick-up at 11:47 a.m. Amazing! They are a smog-certified shop through the California DMV. Already submitted our paperwork with no problems. Our car ended up passing the smog test, but my husband said if he needed the mechanic he would have mostly likely felt comfortable with JJ's as it "looked like a reputable shop."
