A M A Smog Test Only is the perfect smog check if you're in the area. Prices are very reasonable! I stopped in on a Saturday morning and it was not busy at all. Adrian had us in and out in about 15 mins. He was very communicative and told us that he sends the DMV the certificate and also provided us a copy. He has a few couches and chairs while you wait. Don't get to comfortable because Adrian will have finished and out the door in no time! Also, don't forget to check in on yelp as there's an usually an offer! read more

I was in need of a Smog Check this year and been waiting to do it being at one point places being closed due to the pandemic. Well I recently moved to Gardena and searched on Yelp for a spot that could be quick. I found a few but this place stuck out being it was close to home and the reviews were amazing. So I drove up and at first sight I will say it looks like a very quiet and not busy shop but then drove in and told them what I needed. I was helped quick as there was no wait, I did go during the week. The Smog Check part is towards the back so make sure to drive all the way in. I was in-and-out in 13 minutes sharp. Crazy how easy and fast this turned out. I got my electronic receipt and confirmation it was submitted directly to DMV so just went home to pay online and was done. I will definitely be back to this place again. read more

Time for biennial smog. Bay door open, but didn't see Adrian. Waited a bit, then ventured all the way in. He was sitting in his chair, facing away, so I didn't spot him. Lesson for the day, don't leave cos you don't see him! As always - courteous, expeditious, and zero hassle! He sends e-report to DMV and recommends waiting a day or so for them to receive/post before you pay online. Go HERE, now!!! read more

This gem is tucked away in an auto condo shop, right next to the Gardena Library/ Gardena Police department. You can pass this place if you don't slow down and look for it. It is the second garage opening marked "B" and you will see the a "SMOG TEST ONLY" sign. Also beware the driveway is very small so obey the STOP sign and let the guy pull your car in for you. To my delight, I rolled up to this place and was the only customer there. Unlike many auto shops, the owner actually takes care of his space. The couches are very clean, he's got carpet laid down, a nice lounge place to wait for your car to get smogged - or you can go across the street to eat/pick up food. I was in and out of this place within 20 minutes. He did the testing, assigned me an ID and gave me a smog certificate. I showed the YELP checkin and got the discount. All in all a pleasant experience and i will be taking ALL of my cars and my family's cars to this quick, clean and friendly SMOG TEST CENTER!! read more

Adrian was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I took my 20+ year old car to him for a smog test after leaving a different smog test facility in Lawndale because they were rude and didn't want to perform the test on an older vehicle. Adrian had no issues with performing the test and took the time to explain the difference in smog testing older vs. new cars. I will definitely be taking my vehicles to him in the future and highly recommend this business. read more

Great guy. Does everything quick n detailed. Although, I was worried he didn't out my car on the rollers n put that thing in my tailpipe to test n still passed my car for smog. My complaint is that driveway is small. Cool thing is that he DJs so I guess if anyone is interested to hire a DJ, he may be your guy :). You can see his setup in the garage. Thx. read more

Very swift and considerate service. One person was waiting for his car to be tested ahead of me but I was still done within 25 minutes. Although the location is difficult to find and the adjacent garages are quite cluttered, AMA's courteous in and out smog testing met my needs without any hassles. read more

My go to spot when I need to get a smog check, quick freindly service, comfortable leather couch to sit on as you wait for your smog to be done. The best part is they are open Saturday AND Sunday. Not many automotive service shops open on the weekends, which is when most people have time to get work done on their cars. read more

I want to thank Jay who helped people the day I went. The facility was clean and organized, so I felt very comfortable about coming here. They are next to car wash and a gas station. Truly disappointed with this location. Lorenzo, the service advisor tried to charge us $25 for the…read morebrake inspection upon initial arrival. When I pointed out the banner at their shop that says "Free Brake Inspection" and their website which states Free Brake Inspection, he retorted that their website also states they do free smog checks, but he states they do not even do smog. (When relooking at their website, they do not mention free smog anyways.) Lorenzo stated the brake inspections were not free and the website got it wrong. When I asked him for the person in charge he stated Erika and Ezekiel were in the parts dept. It is a shame Lorenzo was the only advisor handling a long line at check in. He stated Corporate was aware of the brake inspection charge discrepancy. If they are aware and he is aware, why try to charge a customer for a "Free" brake inspection? After leaving our car here, we heard the next day of a list of repairs needed. Lorenzo stated they believed our brake caliper was seized but could not confirm it. He attempted to charge us an additional $289.47 for the brake caliper service and $152.10 for the brake fluid service in addition to the brakes and rotor replacement service charge we were expecting. The issue is that when we asked Lorenzo if he could confirm if the brake caliper was truly needed to be replaced, he could just say he highly suggests replacing it. From the beginning, this place was trying to scam. I reached out to Alex's Auto Repair in Cypress, who confirmed they could verify if the brake caliper would be needed. Alex's Auto Repair stated there would be no need to waste extra money if he could confirm the issue. Alex's Auto Repair serviced us, and simply lubricated our caliper without us needing to pay over $800 for the whole brake service like Downey Care Care was quoting us. Alex's Auto Repair took the time to verify the issue, charging us less than half of what Downey Care Care center wanted to charge. My issue with this location is they would have happily overcharged us for a service that was not needed. Take your car to Alex's Auto Repair, save your time and money. While Downey Care Care Center was busy playing around, we had to spend extra time and money booking a rental car. (Photo on the left is from Alex's Auto Repair who took the time to verify the concern and lubricate our caliper. The photo on the right includes one page of many pages of services recommended by Downey Care Center including replacing the brake caliper and fluid exchange had we chosen to go that route.) Makes me question if the remaining suggested repairs (not all pictured below) by Downey Care Care Center were even necessary.

They quoted me way under anyone else that I had called prior to going with them. I will recommend A-1 Muffler Express to all of my friends and family. They all make you feel that you're part of the family. They offered me coffee and cold water while I waited for my car to be done.
