Our company had a large group for a later dinner (7:00) and we were greeted graciously and seated promptly as everyone filtered in. For the appetizers, we ordered two of the Sampler Platters which had Calamari, Mozzarella Stuffed Meatballs, and an Antipasto Platter. This went nicely at each end of the table. We also had the Lobster and Smoked Mozzarella Flatbread which may have been overzealous, but it sounded good to try, and it was. Round 2 brought individually ordered salads. The Caprese looked delicious with a nice yellow tomato and some fresh mozzarella . And the Arugula and Gorgonzola salad was a nice assortment of goodies (figs, berries, nuts) which went great with the blue cheese. The entrees also were quite delicious. The squid ink spaghetti with Lobster and Shrimp in a lemon/garlic/caper sauce was absolutely amazing. The lobster was so succulent and everything just worked together. Many others ordered the Rigatoni Bolognese which looked amazing. The Chicken Parmesan and Manicotti (2 separate dishes, no Tour of Italy here) were also well received. Finally, we passed around some tiramisu and chocolate pudding (I think, I didn't order it) for dessert. Everyone was stuffed and happy. I would come back for dinner. read more

This was our last chance at MD 2021. Yes, we came specifically for the osso bucco, which caught my eye when I first started eyeing this year's Magical Dining line-up. To be sure that it had the right accompaniment, we brought our own bottle of Amarone (not being able to see their wine list ahead of time - which turned out to be quite impressive). While good, the osso bucco was a little small on the portion size, and 'suffered' from the comparison with the one we had on our last night on MSC Divina, which was, well, divine. Service was a trifle on the slow side, but friendly and accommodating. Lastly, the parking situation is a little disappointing: valet (for which they charge and you'd still be expected to tip), or REALLY feed the fitbit by doing self-park (over by the ballroom/convention side). It IS rather sad, though, walking through a beautiful but near-empty hotel (well, it was a Sunday evening). If we do come back next year, it may be to try A Land Remembered, if only to compare. read more

I'm actually giving my rare 5 star because of how everything worked out. Couple of days ago I was looking for the Steakhouse I'm this same hotel and Austin, the manager I believe, invited us to return for a drink later. I did not return that day however I came to dinner the next night. I decided to sit ar the bar since I was alone. I made the best choice. The bartenders Bruon and Claude kept me entertained all night. I asked Austin about the "Market Fish" and he said it was a snapper. I sat down and began to be entertained by the 2 bartenders. Had me laughing almost the entire time. I ordered the beet salad which consisted of raw beets, pureed beets, Frisbee, goat cheese, a delicious almond chili vinaigrette! It was delicious! I also wanted to try the Cacio y Pepe which was not bad. I had better in NY and it was just below that, so it was quite well put together. The snapper was amazing!!! I would certainly return for the Snapper on a bed of crispy Brussels sprouts and sweet potato puree. I had a delightful dining experience here. I would highly recommend Cala Bella! read more

We were visiting just in time for magical dining. I would have given 5 stars but I was a little disappointed because the menu boasted a stuffed meatball but when the first course arrived, it was two tiny meatballs the size of a super ball you get at a supermarket gym all machine. Seriously? ($37) for that? Next course was Osso Buco and it was slow cooked tender veal which was flavorful and was presented over risotto. Not one to frequent hotel restaurants, but at the Shingle Creek for a business meeting and someone else picked up the check. Party of 14, and everyone was happy with the assorted appetizers; calamari, antipasto and meatballs. Calamari was much better than standard fare, but for me the meatballs were just okay. I chose the veal Marsala and would consider it to one of the best examples I have tasted. The Marsala sauce was executed perfectly, the veal cooked correctly and the pasta was al dente. The desserts shared were very good with a tiramisu that was highlighted the offering. Rosen Shingle Creek was a successful meeting location and our dinner worth reviewing. read more

Terrible experience on all levels. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs. Not sure what was worse, the food or the service but unless you want to wait hours for dried out foul smelling fish that tastes like it was sauteed in clorox, skip Cala Bella. One of the worst dinners my group collectively had in years so please heed this warning. But if you do go, offer a rag to the waiter with the wiry black beard so he can avoid sweating in anyone else's food. read more

We had a great time journeying over toe Cala Bella for my birthday. The restaurant is known for having great seafood, so Boyfriend ordered the Squid Ink Pasta and I ordered the Shrimp Genova. We each also had a dessert to celebrate. The shrimp was delicious and my boyfriend was happy with the squid ink pasta. I've eaten at Cala Bella a handful of times now and can't complain. The food is always delicious and fresh. I've had a few items on the menu but the squid ink pasta is probably my favorite. The service is always very attentive and it's really nice to be able to have this quality of meal right inside the hotel. The prices are obviously high but there are other options inside the hotel that are much more budget friendly. If you're a Florida resident make sure to sign up for the discount card they offer. If you stay at Rosen properties on any type of a regular basis, it can save you a pretty penny. read more

Very nice place. Great food and service. The Calamari Friti was perfectly cooked and served with a spicy coulis. The Tomato Caprese was awesome. My guest is not a fan of tomato slices, but this was a hit. We tried the Sea Bass and found it perfectly prepared with large glistening flakes. 4 stars because the food and service were really great! My business partner and I were attending the Florida Realtors Convention and staying in the resort. We decided to try Calla Bella one evening and we were glad that we did. The ambiance is lovely and relaxing. Our server was fantastic. I cannot for the life of me remember his name, but he was attentive as were the other servers who always assured that our water glasses were full and our Plates removed as we dined. I started with a bowl of Minestrone soup. The soup was full of flavor and very fresh. Full of vegetables and pasta just like a true Minestrone soup should be. Lightly salted and incredibly tasty. The table was also served crusty and fresh Italian bread and olive oil with balsamic vinegar. For my main course I ordered the Chicken Parm. The dish arrived perfectly breaded and crispy. The chicken breast was a hefty serving with mozzarella cheese not overpowering the dish at all. The marinara was just the right amount too and was fresh and full of diced tomatoes. The accompanying dish of spaghetti was served al dente. Perfect. The meal was not overbearing and the flavors were truly fantastic! I walked in on a Wednesday night and it was the first place i saw still open. I spoke to the Maitre d (Austin) and said to him "i have dined in Rome and had real Cacio e Pepe. Is yours any good ?" He said " why don't you tell me. Order anything off the menu and ill give you a side of it on the house." well let me tell you this was the best Cacio e Pepe this side of the Atlantic. It was so good on our last night i took my entire group to sit down and dine with them. The staff was amazing and the attention to detail in the kitchen was next level. Came to celebrate our parents 60th anniversary, they were staying at the hotel for the weekend so it made sense to dine there. The food is fantastic, service wonderful but waiting over an hour for dinner- that is the reason for 3 stars. Our server was extremely knowledgeable, professional and a delight. Her service has been the best we have had in a long time. We could tell that our server was embarrassed about the time it took for our dinner to arrive because she came back 3 times to let us know our dinner will be out in a few minutes. Mind you we never asked about the delay. Is the food and cocktails over priced -yes due to a tourist area and hotel setting. Cocktails were weak, little alcohol causing the drinks to be overly sweet and others sour. They were pretty to look at but sadly it ended there. We are there through the Magical Dining experience. I had the calamari (appetizer), shrimp with cream and risotto (entree), lemon raspberry cheesecake (desert). The portion size was perfect. I was actually stuffed. The cheesecake was light, and the perfect portion (be advised that the MD menu size is smaller than the regular portion). Jorge was our server and he was delightful. All of the staff was warm and friendly. We were celebrating my friend's birthday and she had an awesome time too. The best part of this place is the bartender's. They are very ingadging and witty. Enjoyed sitting at this bar several times during our stay. However someone needs to teach the cooks how to cook pasta Al dente. My claim paste was like they dumped a can of Campbell chicken noodle soup in a bowl then added some fresh claims. NO kidding. My wife's bologensse sauce was really good but pasta mushy. I found calamari ok not great by any standard. Deserts again ok nothing to rave about. Very disappointed. read more

Every year the National Federation for the blind holds a convention at one of the Rosen properties, and this year I met my family, who was attending the conference, for dinner at this restaurant. The service was incredible and it's obvious the management goes out of their way to train staff how to best assist blind/visually impaired customers, on everything from having braille menus, to how to inform them where food is being placed and describing the place setting and just having an extra bit of patience with us. And just as important, the food was great too! I shared a grilled octopus and warm potato salad appetizer with my aunt and it had a lot of nice size pieces of octopus and boy did this have a kick which I was not expecting but really enjoyed! For the main course I had the squid Ink Spaghetti which came with butter-poached lobster, grilled tuscan shrimp and charred tomato (a few too many in my opinion), onion, wilted greens, lemon, garlic and capers. For dessert, they insist on bringing out a platter of choices that will make you drool and I chose a lemon shortbread that was filled with raspberry sorbet and so refreshing and decadent at the same time. Cala Bella is located inside the Rosen Shingle Creek resort. My friends and I decided to try the restaurant for Magical Dining Month. It's a nice, upscale restaurant. I was disappointed with the service. Our server's attitude would have been better suited for a casual, sports bar type restaurant. He was too laid back and flippant, and disappeared for long stretches at a time. We had to wait over 20 minutes for our check at the end of the meal. I feel my dining experience would have been enhanced with more attentive service. I started my meal with the wild mushroom risotto appetizer. This was my favorite item of the night. It was the perfect texture, with a rich smoky flavor, with just the faintest hint of curry. It was a fantastic combination of flavors. I also tried the calamari fritti, which was well presented, but a pretty standard fried calamari. For my entree, I had the gorgonzola crusted Tuscan ribeye, served with gigandes beans, kale, and roasted potatoes. Once again, it was a pretty standard steak and potatoes. The desserts were very well presented. I ordered the tiramisu, again, pretty standard. I also tried the chocolate sabayon, very rich, a good choice for chocolate lovers. Overall, Cala Bella is a good choice for a standard Italian steak meal if you're staying at the hotel. read more

As a guest Chef for the 1st Inaugural Gingerbread House Competition, we were invited to dine at Calla Bella. It was a great experience! Typically, hotel restaurants are not impressive but this one is the exception to the rule. The service from start to finish was exceptional and attentive. Our server, Bill, was professional and knowledgeable. He discussed our gluten free intolerance, and this is the only time I have been informed that EVERYTHING on the menu either is, or can be modified to be, gluten free! We started with a basket of gluten free breads and rolls at the table. I ordered the Rigatoni Bolognese and it was as close as I've ever had to my own, traditional Bolognese. Excellent! My guest ordered the Diver Scallops and they were perfect. Overall, this was an excellent experience and we enjoyed the evening very much. Although our first visit to Cala Bella wasn't a stand out, we decided to return a year later when, on a busy convention night, we were only able to get into Calla Bella. We sat at the "Presentation Bar" which faces directly into the kitchen, and it was, ironically, the quietest spot in the house. Service was attentive and knowledgeable, and the food was excellent. Unlike the bland cioppino of our first visit, the flatbread was bursting with fresh flavors and tasted just like the sidewalk pizzas in Italy. Chilean sea bass was perfectly cooked, and the mushroom side dish with our entrees was another standout. A completely different experience from our first visit, and I'll happily return. read more

I really loved Cala Bella the first time. And I really liked it the second time as well. I visited here with my wife and another couple. The service was great and fast. The staff were very friendly. It definitely does a great job in a hotel that bears Mr. Rosen's name. I was disappointed that the gigante beans had no flavor. The first time I visited, the gigante beans stole the show from the ribeye! This time though, they were bland. I don't know what happened, but I hope it was just a one time thing. The ribeye was cooked perfectly and delicious. One of the appetizer's was hearty and generous. The other was not. The great thing is that the waiter's are so friendly, they'd likely make a great recommendation. Each time we've visited, we've had waiters who gave us the first class treatment, but were also very friendly. The dessert was good. We tried several and they were all good. No real losers, but no outstanding winners either. In my opinion this is hands down the best restaurant in the hotel. I'll likely visit again. If you're staying here, this is definitely a great place to check out. If you're a local, why not try something different? This is a really great place. I hope they don't ever change anything...except the gigante beans! read more

We were on the fence about eating here. It seemed a little more upscale than we were looking for but we had a coupon and thought we'd give it a try. Oh man, what a treat. I would absolutely come back and pay full price for another meal like that. We started with simple salads and the crab cake. It was the best crab cake I've had outside of Maryland. The chef later assured us that the ingredients were as simple as the could be - lump crab, mayo and bread crumbs. Simple and delicious. I had the special - sea bass and it was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. The drinks were very well made, creative and served iced cold - perfect. Ate here for Magical Dining month with my friend. For appetizers I tried the mushroom risotto because I LOVE risotto. My friend got the beet salad. The risotto was probably the worst I have ever had. It didn't look very good but tasted worse. It was basically sticky white rice with a strong garlic flavor and some mushrooms on top. There was no creaminess, no cheesiness, no mushroom taste. Luckily my waiter agreed it's not very good and let me change for the salad. My friend's salad was mainly greens and no toppings. Mine had more toppings but it was very bland. I wanted to ask my waiter for some extra dressing but he barely ever came back. For entrees I did the filet and she did the chicken parmesan. My filet was delicious, mainly due to the sauce. The chicken parm was big but just ok. We then ordered coffees to have with our dessert which came about 15+ minutes before our desserts so there wasn't much to drink with them. I ordered the cappuccino crème brûlée and she ordered the chocolate sabyon. Once they gave me the correct dessert, I can say they were pretty good. My crème brûlée tasted more like horchata than cappuccino but it was yummy. Service was just ok. We were literally there for 3 hours and most of that time was spent waiting for our waiter to come by or for our food to arrive. There were many times we wondered if we were forgotten about. Our waiter I guess knew this so he tried to give us a discount but couldn't due to the magical dining deal. I'm a local and just ate at Cala Bella recently. I tried it because they had a great deal on restaurants.com for $100 off of $200. The whole experience was fantastic. It was a Monday so it was slow but all the staff were great and very attentive. They even baked some different bread to try just for us. Great wine list. Veal chop was excellent and cooked perfect. Calamari was our app and it was nice. They had a lot of daily specials too. My favorite thing was the lemon cake dessert. Absolutly loved it! Friends loved the chocolate cake as well. Magical dining. The atmosphere was relaxing overlooking the pool area. The service was good. Had the calamari which were absolutely tender- probably the best I have ever had-and came with a dipping sauce. The strip steak was good and the accompaniments of potatoes and thin tiny string beans, onion strings and the reduction were very good. I did not like the dessert-tiramisu. It came in a glass and was a bit sweet for me but was smooth and a beautiful presentation. This was a great relaxing choice for magical dining. read more

Went here with a party of three and enjoyed a very nice dinner. The menu offers a wide variety of choices. Appetizers range from 8-15$ and entrees range from 25-45$. Wine by the glass is fairly expensive here, anywhere from 9-15$. The bottles are a much better value. We ordered the the calamari fritte with a peppadew dipping sauce. Very tasty, though the coating probably could have been crispier. For my meal, I ordered the Mediterranean pork. It came with a "ratatouille" that looked almost like a salsa on the plate with the vegetables all diced. Ended up being very tasty. The pork was a gigantic portion that was cooked to the requested medium. Near the end of my dish I ended up biting down on an olive pit that was hidden in the ratatouille. The waiter apologized and later comped our desert to make up for the mistake, which I thought was very nice. The desert was a coffee creme brulee with raspberries and cream. It was decadent and delicious. One complaint: parking. Prepare for a walk from your spot to the hotel. Don't worry about the 12$ "self-parking" charge, if you dine at the restaurant they won't charge you anything. They took us at our word but it probably would be a good idea to have your receipt to prove it if asked. read more
