We ate here on June 25, 2011 and it was a great find. We were basically stuck in the hotel as it was 90 degrees and pouring rain outside plus we'd just arrived form LA and NYC, and were too tired to leave. The hotel is huge so I expected the food to be institutional in nature. We had the Carpaccio and the Heirloom Tomato Salad and both were delicious. I didn't expect anything great and was very pleasantly surprised. We shared a special of halibut, risotto, and broccolini and the kitchen split it for us with lovely servings. We drank a half bottle of wine and the waiter corked it and put it in a to go bag. The service was very good and the food was too. read more

Let's get one thing out of the way up front. This is an expensive restaurant. It's the premier dining establishment of the Rosen Single Creek property and is geared toward expense accounts and high-end dining. That said, it's a wonderfully comfortable and classy restaurant without a hint of pretention. If their aim is to attend to the customers with grace and impeccable charm, they've hit the mark and set the standard for nearby resorts very, very high. The food we've had here on multiple occasions has never disappointed. Their menu is original and set apart without being too confusing or alienating. From their appetizers (in house mozzarella, for instance) to their wicked deserts, Cala Bella can please all pallets. If you get the chance, bypass many of the local restaurants here that play at being sophisticated and try the real thing. You won't be disappointed. read more

I visited the restaurant while on a work trip and ate here on the first night at the resort. Too bad we didn't know they had a special for those attending the conference since my salad and entrée set me back $50+ after tip ($30 special for three course meal could have been mine!) They brought bread to the table with oil and balsamic. Nothing spectacular but still very good. They also offered a variety of drinks including bottled and "bubbly" water (for a charge of course) Anyway, the caesar salad (yes I take anchovies and they were fresh and soft here...very tasty) was superb. The dressing was creamy and they offered extra parmesan. For my entrée I got the scallops on pasta (I can't remember the exact name of the dish, sorry!) which was quite tasty but not bursting with flavor despite the extra parmesan. Our waitress was friendly and efficient despite the kitchen was thirty minutes from closing when we entered the restaurant. The manager stopped by our table to ask us how we were doing and bade us farewell as we departed the restaurant, quite classy. OVERALL RATING (this is my new thing now): Ambiance: 5/5 (Italian themed paintings on walls were classy and understated and the place was dark but not dreary) Service: 5/5 Food: 4.5/5 Not cheap but if you're ever staying here and want Italian food, this place shouldn't disappoint! read more

My friends and i had the heirloom caprese (decent but how can u mess this up) the chicken parm, the shrimp and risotto, and the rigatoni bolognese--the last three were pretty sad--on the same level of quality as an Olive Garden (or worse) and not what i was expecting since it looks like a classier place. My German grandmother makes better Italian food. Even the tiramisu was almost plain tasting. The limoncello dessert was pretty good. read more

Magical Dining is the greatest thing invented. If you haven't done it, I suggest you should! That's what brought me to Cala Bella. This is a prefixed menu but the options are incredible. From the appetizer to the entree down the the dessert.... I can't say I was not please, because this was by far an incredible experience. From our waiter( Tony is great ) to the wine all the way to the food that is to spark your taste buds! I had the shrimp Scampi wow.. the flavor and the freshness was delightful. My friend had the Filet Mignon... medium well. Wow, how juicy and flavorful the steak was. The appetizers were great! I had the calamari, wow... I love calamari but this was wonderful even down to the sauce that came with it... and the dessert the Creme brûlée and the tiramisu was so delicious. I was full and I had to keep eating it... if you have the time to stop here for a special dinner, I would highly recommend. You won't be disappointed. Dinner during the Florida Realtors Convention. Interesting menu including several fish, shellfish, pasta, chicken, veal, beef and lamb dishes, plus salads and appetizers. Very nice ambience with a bar and piano out front facing the lobby, and a long restaurant featuring an open kitchen inside. Lushly adorned with red tapestry and heavy wooden shutters on the windows, overlooking the pool. Very good wine list with many excellent Cabernets, a medley of Pinot, and much more. read more

I really enjoyed my food they made the fettuccini Alfredo for me even though it wasn't on the menu. My big issue was my server. He was in a rush the whole time which made the experience very unenjoyable. We felt rushed to eat and finish up. I was visiting my parents and celebrating my graduation (which the server did not know) but still it didn't fell like a special experience that the resort should offer. He never made the experience personable it just seemed like another table and he needed to move on as quickly as possible. I am constantly working in the hospitality industry and I just recently graduated from Rosen college which is right next door, and this service offered did not match what this hotel has to offer. I ate here twice, as well as enjoyed some time in their bar. The first night I ate here was a small group dinner, and I was very happy with my meal. We split a divine lobster flatbread--seriously the best thing we tried at Cala Bella, so good. I went on to have Caesar salad (add anchovies), which was just ok. Finally, I had a delicious pasta dish, Orecchiette ai Cappesante, that included scallops, olives, and tomatoes. Oh, and we had wonderful red wine and an attentive waiter who helped adjust the air conditioning to make us comfortable. If I had written this review after the first meal, I would easily give Cala Bella four stars. The second meal I had here was a large catered dinner for over 100 people. We had selected our dishes in advance, so the kitchen was prepared for the orders. I had seafood pescatore, and thought it was just ok. I would have been VERY disappointed if I'd paid the $46 menu price for the dish. That said, the staff did a good job serving such a large group of people. I would certainly eat here again if I were staying in the Rosen Shingle Creek. I'm not sure I'd make a special trip to eat here. If you do go, I recommend ordering either the Orecchiette ai Cappesante or the Shrimp Genova, which my dining companions loved. read more

We took customers to this restaurant on a business trip to the Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando. Service and ambiance were nice, but the food was excellent. The breads were incredible, but my appetizer was crazy good: The heirloom tomato bruschetta was one of the best I've ever had. Living near the Santa Monica market, I never expect to have vegetables even remotely close in quality. However, the Florida heirlooms were juicy and flavorful like watermelon. This was a great dish! I'd love to go back and try the decadent Lobster pizza! read more

This place is getting 3 stars based on its service not the food! My pasta was good however, my chicken parm tasted like it was cooked earlier in the evening then reheated. I couldn't even cut threw it. The server and manager really wanted to help turn my experience around and offered other suggestions and a dessert. Decent food however we felt very rushed. Reservations were for 930 and at 945 we were told the kitchen would be closing so we needed to make a decision. The complimentary bread and oil was delicious. The veal Marsala we ordered was ok but nothing special. The squid ink spaghetti was very good. I just did not like the service. I'm giving it 3.5 stars. Cala Bella is a cozy little Italian restaurant inside the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel. I had a big client dinner here, and ended up in a party of 12 at the back of the restaurant. I have to say that the service was pretty good, and they took care of our large party. Their bread service is great. I was really loving the cheesy crunchy bread and their olive rolls. Yes. I was breaking all the rules on this trip. We started with the calamari. Eh. It was a little too greasy and not crunchy enough! The accompanying spicy peppadew coulis sauce was way too sweet. I wasn't a fan. For dinner I started with the Arugula & Gorgonzola Salad with Yellow Tomato Vinaigrette, Mission Figs and Candied Pecans. It was decent. I probably should have gotten the heirloom tomato salad because it looked awesome. I then had the Italian Sausage & Florida Goat Cheese Pizza with Red Onion, Basil and Crushed Tomatoes. The serving was quite large and I only ate a third of it. Definitely shareable. The highlight of Cala Bella is their dessert. Holy Bananas Insane. We shared a platter of a deconstructed Creme Brulee, Tiramisu, Lemon Cheesecake and a Chocolate Ganache Cake thing. All four were AMAZING. Cala Bella is a little overpriced for what they are offering, IMO. But their menu is very diverse and they have many options outside of traditional Italian fare. read more

We decided to try this restaurant as they participated in Magical Dining Month so the value was excellent. It is located in the Rosen Shingle Creek. Greeted warmly and taken right to our table. We had left the car with the valet and the manager noticed our ticket and very subtly offered to have it validated. Nice. We were barely in our seats when an assistant waiter, Omar, greeted us, offered water. Main waiter, Marwan, came over with a huge, friendly smile. Started chatting with us, made us feel welcome. We settled on drinks, probably one of the BEST martinis ever! Very smooth dining experience, if another waiter noticed something as he/she walked by our table they took care of it. Food - excellent. We started with the Toscano Carpaccio. It was extra but delicious, great shaved fennel on top. Caesar salad nice and chilled not overly dressed. Ribeye with Gorgonzola crust, cooked just right! So flavorful and juicy. We finished with a lemon cheesecake and a chocolate dessert, both wonderful. Decided to go for a bit of extra and had cappuccinos, very smooth and creamy. We tend to "dine" when we go out, we take our time, we chat, enjoy the ambiance if there is one. At no time did we feel rushed or pressured to leave. The staff were gracious and attentive. Wasn't sure how it would be since there was no prior experience with the hotel. Will definitely return and highly recommend. Gave it 4 Stars as would need to re-visit before offering 5. read more

Had several really tasty meals here during a conference. Came several times and had the scallops, salmon, osso buco, and lamb. Each time was delicious but I'd say overpriced, like everything at this resort. The service was pretty hit or miss. This is an expensive restaurant and, IMHO, not worth the price. It's not that the food is bad. There are simply better restaurants at this price point. I am not sure how this is getting more than 2-3 stars on Yelp. Yes, there is a diverse wine list, but I did not notice very many good values (i.e. wines that are no more than 2x the market price). The calamari was surprisingly good, but both flatbreads (sausage and lobster) were disappointing. The ribeye was the fattiest steak I've ever had, and the sea bass was bland and tasteless. Perhaps my poor score is because I live in south Louisiana, but this experience has about done me in on dining at expensive restaurants. The brightest spot was our waitress (Christina) who was very attentive, pleasant and knowledgeable. I would encourage you to look around for better options if you're wanting to spend several hundred dollars on a meal with friends. read more

I was staying at the Rosen shingle for work so I decided to check out this restaurant. I'm usually unimpressed with hotel restaurants and this was no exception. Food was too pricey for what it was. We stayed here as part of a business retreat/meeting. The property is stunning. The lobby is spacious and beautiful! Upon registering, we asked, as we always do upon checking into any hotel, if there were any complimentary upgrades available. The associate accommodated, and switched us from a King bed, standard room, to a Queen Murphy bed in a SUITE that had a spacious entry lobby, a Dining room table in the middle of the studio suite for 8, a living room area, a full bar area with 4 chairs and a huge bathroom! Free Wifii! We were out of our minds! We hadn't even explored the grounds yet but were super excited about the customer service and accommodations. WOW! read more

I ate at Cala Bella during the magical dining on 9/22/13. From greet to seat we were well attended and our service and server was excellent. My wife had the yellowtail snapper dish and the antipasto I ordered the shrimp genova risotto and calamari in chili oil. Both orders were outstanding in presentation and taste. For dessert we had the creme brûlée and the chocolate sabayon. It was paired with a moderate priced red meritage. We found the ambiance to be romantic and the food a great aphrodisiac for a great evening. read more

My family and I go to Orlando once a year and stay at The Rosen Shingle Creek. We always make it a point to dine at Calle Belle at least twice as we are here for 10 to 14 days at a time. It is not cheap but the food quality is one of the best in Orlando. I should know because I am a chef by trade. Went here for a company Christmas party a few days ago. The staff was great, friendly, and professional. The atmosphere was nice.. And the food was very good! If I had to criticize anything it would be that the main entrees took too long to get to the table. It didn't bother me due to appetizers we had before but if someone didn't have all night to spend therea like I did and/or was starving, it would be a valid concern. Since it didn't bother me that night, it is not reflected in the rating but is mentioned just to make the management aware that it happened. Great place and I would definitely return. read more

It was our first time here. We were greeted when we first walked up and were seated quickly. It was a Friday night at 6 and the place was empty but who cares restaurant to ourselves! Our server was just ok. We overheard him explaining specials to others but we did not get that. We ordered a few beers and the calamari to start. Both were excellent. We finished and waited around for sever to come back. Not sure what took so long since place was empty. For dinner my wife had lasagna and I had the osso buco. Both were good but not for the prices they charge. Between blah service and over priced food I'm not sure we would return. read more

I ate at Cala Bella twice while staying at the resort for a conference. The first night, I was there for a work dinner and had the tomato caprese salad and the lamb. The salad was okay, nothing special. The lamb, which is something I don't normally order, but was recommended by the waiter, was exceptionally tender and lacked any major gamey flavor (a plus!). The sauce served with it was the best part. For dessert, I tried the untraditional cheesecake - it was disappointing if one was to expect any true cheesecake flavor, but still tasty. I wouldn't order it again though. Service was pretty good that night. One my second return, I was by myself and they were very busy so I was seated at the chef's presentation table (a bar overlooking the kitchen). The seating was actually pretty entertaining as I felt like I was on set of Hell's Kitchen. They ran the kitchen like a machine, so props for that, but the service was awful. I sat for a long time waiting for drink (water) refills and any sort of service during my meal. I skipped the salad for the evening and opted for just an entree - the Seafood Pescatore. This dish is a MUST try. The dish came with two each of scallops, shrimp, mussels, and lobster tails over some pasta with this amazing broth. It was so delicious. Use the complimentary bread to sop up any broth left in the bowl as none should be left behind! This dish was the only saving grace to the service experience as I had asked for a dessert menu but never saw my server return after that request. A good 20 minutes later and I gave up and asked one of the guys in the kitchen for my check. He did apologize for my wait. read more

I generally avoid restaurants in hotels (unless in NYC, Paris, or Vegas). Based on the good reviews I decided to try Cala Bella. I was pleasantly surprised. The service from Hadassah was top notch. She made excellent recommendations. I had the caprese salad. It was good. The mozzarella was of good quality. But had they used mozerella di bufola and a little bit of oregano it would kicked it up another notch. Hadassah recommended the lamb chops. I am usually wary of trying lamb because in a less discerning restaurant the lamb can have a strong smell. No such problem here. They served one of the best lambs chops I have had! I even ordered it medium rare. No smell. Soft as butter. Compliments to the management and the chef. Very well prepared. Couple of glasses of Cabernets to accompany the meal and I left happy. The manager stopped by to enquire about the meal which shows that the restaurant cares about the guests. Excellent service, great meal, that too in a restaurant inside a hotel. The food was very disappointing. My main dish, the Pasta con Polpette, lacked any flavor. I could have made spaghetti with marinara sauce on my own. Meanwhile, the brussel sprouts tasted as though they were soaked in lemon juice for a week. It was cringe-inducing. My fiance did enjoy his chicken parm, but it barely had any sauce on it. I will say that the Minestrone soup was very flavorful. However, at no point was any fresh pepper or grated cheese offered for any of our courses. It was not what I would expect from fine dining. Wanted to do something special for my boo, so decided on a staycation at the Rosen Shingle Creek. Made last minute reservations at their "Fine" dining Italian restaurant. The prices were on par with fine dining but the food was not. Our server was very sweet and friendly and is the only reason this isn't a 1 star review. The food was terrible. We started with the lobster and tomato flatbread. The flatbread had good flavor, but neither of us could detect any lobster...no big deal, but for $17 not a good a start. My girl ordered the chicken parmesan.. The chicken had a nice golden color and was quite tasty. It came with a side of spaghetti that tasted like it was from a can. Spaghetti-O's anyone? I had the 12oz cheese crusted Ribeye. I ordered it medium however it was clearly mid rare at best. Not a whole lot of flavor and what really disappointed me was the veggies, beans, and potatoes were all room temperature. My 50 dollar entree was not even Luke warm. To summarize, enjoyed our server very nice and accommodating but the food is whack. I would never return! read more

Went on a Friday night, pretty empty. Took forever for a drink and appetizer order, so we placed our drinks and dinner together. Also took way to long just to get the drinks. Bread came out, must of been at least 2 days old, probably left over from a breakfast buffet. It was bland and chewy and literally couldn't eat the bread and the oil and balsamic was sour so asked for butter which was harder than ice in Alaska. The food came out. Chicken parm and squid ink with lobster. Chicken parm was a little below Olive Garden standards and was clearly frozen pasta with super bland canned tasting tomato sauce. Atmosphere was nice but food and drinks were seriously lacking. I ordered the Caesar salad which was fairly average but too heavy on the dressing. My main course was the rigatoni bolognese. The pasta was over cooked and the sauce was thick and hot as heck. The flavor was bland and definitely nothing to write home about. My husband had the seafood pescatore and was also underwhelmed by the lack of flavor. Neither one of us finished more tha half of our meals. I saw the 3 1/2 star reviews before I went but when you're staying at a resort with limited food options you take your chances and hope the reviews are wrong....they aren't! read more

Not sure if it's because we were on a "fixed" menu but regardless we spent $200 and should have received not only better service but also better food considering word of mouth around Orlando is a great way to get repeat, loyal business. Took us over 5 minutes to get a greet, pre-bussed our own table so once the plates were all stacked together, they were finally removed. Had to get up and ask another person for a box, then received bill and the waiter asked us if he gave us the right bill..... Then couldn't find my credit card only to have dropped it on the floor. Food had zero spice or flavor, however, the shrimp was outstanding! The final straw was giving the manager our comment card that cane with our bill and explaining the dining experience and all he did was nod. was there for a Saturday evening. the food was true gourmet. and the price, while high, was no higher than the pricey steakhouse I ate at the night before and got mediocre service and taste. In contrast, the cala bella food was superb, the wait staff was great, and I left very satisfied. I was very surprised to find that there were not that many people there on a Saturday night, so if you do not have a reservation...you could still probably get a seat. about the only thing I did not like was having to fork over the $16 for self parking/$20 for valet parking. they should provide free parking for the restaurant. read more
