I grew up in Calabasas and came on weekly visits to the Calabasas Library with my mom for years. It moved a few times since I was a kid and underwent some changes, but it's really found its place now, and is by far the best public library I've ever visited. As a college student, I'm always struck with how much it reminds me of my university's libraries, which is impressive in such a small venue. There are lots of nice quiet study spaces to get work done or comfy chairs to start reading a book before you take it home. Like the city itself, the library is on the smaller side, which means that if you're looking for a specific book, you might be disappointed the first time around. However, the atmosphere here more than makes up for it, and just browsing for your next read can be a really enjoyable experience. The furniture and architecture are both beautiful and really, I just love being in here. They've got a great and pretty large kids' section as well, with a lot of the books that I grew up reading. I wouldn't recommend it as the only place to go if you're doing some serious research, but to do some studying or pick up a book for some casual reading, it's perfect. The librarians here are incredible as well. Every single one of them is unbelievably friendly and really go out of their way to see how you're doing and make sure that you found what you came in for. They get to know you by name if you come in regularly, and even remember me from years ago when I'm back from school. read more

Wow great library. Very nice facility. Helpful Librarian. Great for kids. Not sure if we need to be spending this much taxpayer $ on a public library though. Computer chairs were $1500 Herman Miller Aeron chairs. I literally verified it by going underneath the chair to read the serial number and tag. I had to make sure it wasn't just a cheap replica chair. I would have liked to get my employees these chairs but to stay within a reasonable budget we went with cheaper options. Our local Government though spares no expense apparently. read more

Big, spacious, clean library, and most of all, really quiet. As soon as you enter the doors, all noise from the outside ceases, and you just hear light, subtle chatter of the staff checking out people's books in the front, or people moving around. Plenty of tables throughout with outlets and individual lamps to do your work, homework, studying, etc. Also couch areas for a more relaxed, leisure vibe. Close by to the Commons, within walking distance, so you have your choice of snacks afterward. Great DVD selection -- big, and fairly recent. And they're free rentals! One of the best libraries I've visited in the LA area. Probably the best in the valley. It is such a beautifully and elegantly designed building. Plentiful of many things that are required: parking, quiet seating areas, outlets for charging. Everything is very nicely kept and cleaned, with great wifi. This is by far my favorite library in the #SanFernandoValley. The courtyard outside the library provides a tranquil setting to read and have lunch during working hours. Frankly, I come here to concentrate on my studies and work and mainly hang outside weath permitting. The best part about this library is its fairly new, well about 2 years and is maintained often. Calabasas Library is my go-to study spot. Some of the great things about this library other than the fact that it is always kept clean and the gorgeous bathrooms must be the friendly staff. They have a great selection of DVDs that can be rented out and all of their movies are pretty recent too. They have many long tables to sit down and get some work / studying done. Each seat also has individual lamp that can be used to brighten up the area (this helps me focus...LASER FOCUS). read more

Great place if you need a place to study. This place is very clean and quiet. I was able to get a lot of work done and WiFi work really great. The only problem that I didn't like was the $15/hour charge for a study room. But there is plenty of tables outside the library if you and your friends are working on a group project. Another great aspect about this library is that it's walking distance to a lot of great restaurants nearby, perfect place for a study break. Will definitely be coming back here again. read more

It's a nice library, but they will blame you for damage to a book that occurred after it was returned, and then say you still have the book, when you returned it the day before. Yes, I am saying they knew they had a book I returned the day before and then told me it was overdue, allowing me to renew the book (I didn't realize at the time it was one I had already returned until i got home). They let me renew a book they knew they had. read more

I love this library! It's well kept and everyone is extremely friendly. There is outdoor seating, open wifi and a good selection of books. They have an event calendar, and do wish there were more options for adults, although for kids they have story times and homework help. Mondays they close, so sometimes it throws me off, but renewing your books online is super easy. read more

It's nice to go to library that isn't overrun by homeless people, but I found the place was instead overrun by students who dominated every single table except one which was seized by a belligerent looking old geezer. The librarians meanwhile appeared to be a surly, unhappy bunch who patrolled the place shooting angry looks and looking for homeless people to throw out. read more

Bring your earplugs and music!! If you're looking for peace and quiet, don't come when school is out. The kids run amuck in the back making noise that echoes throughout the library. No one seems to care that a library is supposed to be quiet, AT ALL. It's a beautiful facility with all the bells and whistles but the noise level is substantially higher than a book store. There are often events in the back going on and you can hear everything with kids running around, talking loudly, playing... I gave it 3 stars because I've come during the day once and it was fairly quiet and I may come again during that time, but my intention is to come after school with my children to complete homework. The noise level simply defeats the purpose as I find it quite distracting. read more

The Calabasas Library is unlike any other I've been to. It is beautiful, filled with desk & computers, contains study rooms, a kids section, and a great outdoor area. The wifi is super reliable and it even works outside after hours. The library is always clean and well staffed. I love that there's a variety of desks in different areas to chose from. There are study cubbies, long desks, round tables, and even living room like places to sit. I am always comfortable here and I've grown to be more productive here than anywhere else. If I need to focus, the Calabasas Library is the place I can count on to get my work done. read more

Aesthetically and artistically, one of the most beautiful libraries around Los Angeles. Do not miss walking around the building, seeing the mosaics outdoors and nearby, peeking inside the Founders Hall. It's a beautiful building all the way around. This is the noisiest library I have ever been to. There is NO place in the entire library where you can quietly situate yourself to study or work without hearing people talking, kids giggling, librarians answering the phone and moving around book carts on the tiled floor. I believe there could be a substantial flaw in the architectural/construction design, as you literally hear all sounds echoing through. There is no sound isolation, and if you sit next to the "study rooms" in the very end corner, you would be overhearing group's conversations, unless they whisper, which is rarely a case, as most of the them are loud. Even so-called "quiet room" is not noise protected, because you would be clearly hearing people who are talking outside the library. This is by far my favorite public library in the valley. The past couple of months I've used this spot to study for an exam and other writing assignments. I will admit there are instances where the place can be a bit raucous but the majority of the time is the perfect place. They have a nice little cozy area outside for those that like the scenery. This is a gorgeous library located right near a shopping area and the Calabasas civic center. I went here to study, and it was a near-perfect place to do so. The only thing I'd mention is that if you're very sensitive to noise, bring earplugs, because sometimes it's noisy due to book re-shelving, staff wheeling around an extraordinarily squeaky old cart full of books to be re-shelved, or due to patrons/staff talking. Great library. Clean, quiet and great hours. Only library in the San Fernando Valley that is open on Sundays. In the study areas it's usually college students or graduate students so it's pretty quiet and they have an additional room that is strictly no talking or food. I love this library. This is a gorgeous library framed by the Santa Monica mountains. While outside waiting for the library to open I was able to notice and appreciate what looks to me to be Spanish architecture. This is a new library that is nicely maintained and very comfortable inside. I had to get a library card after scanning through their DVD selection and realized that there more movies here that I wanted to see than what my local Blockbuster carries. This place is so nice that it was not a surprise to hear one of the librarians being approached by someone from a major movie studio asking about filming there. The library staff are very friendly and who actually were actually having (quiet) conversations with people to whom they made reading recommendations, which is nice to see since you know they know their own inventory. read more

This is the loudest library I have ever used. The staff speaks at full volume all the time, and loud patrons and children are never asked to be more courteous. I agree it's a nice library with ample parking. But bring ear plugs and headphones if you need to concentrate. read more

As someone else said, the WIFI here is so bad it is borderline useless. It takes a few minutes to load each page after pressing refresh over and over. Impossible to get work done. I have experienced this every time I come here, and I'm not sure why I keep coming. Fool me twice shame on me. I will never be coming here again.
