We love this place! Even with COVID, we were able to dine out and have incredible food and wine. We reserved a table for 5 on the patio. The service was wonderful. We moved from Seattle to the Mill Creek area over 16 years ago. We loved it up here but we had to sacrifice access to good restaurants. My wife and I would have to drive into Seattle for special occasions if we wanted a good meal. Then they built the Mill Creek Town Center and finally a few decent places moved in. Shortly after that, Calabria opened even closer to our home. It has become our go to place for those special occasions. We love it! Pete and Rhonda, who own the place, greet us by name when we arrive and sit us right away in their very nicely decorated room. Rhonda makes as good a martini (or lemon drop) as we ever got in Seattle. She claims it's because she makes them "with love!" Earlier reviewers are right--the bread with garlic oil is fantastic. My wife loves the mixed green salad and I always order the Caesar. Both delicious. Then we move onto the main course. There are usually specials which we find difficult to resist and have not been disappointed. If we decide to order off the menu we love the shrimp dishes and anything with the gorgonzola cheese sauce is unbelievable. The deserts, including the lemoncello, that, apparently, comes all the way from Italy, are all very tasty. They are very proud of their tiramisu and rightly so! I have no idea what "Alison W." is talking about. I don't know what to say about that review except that I don't think it should deter people from trying Calabria! read more

Calabria is by far one of the best secret treasures on the West Coast, if not the United States. I've been to many 5-star restaurants around the world; NYC, Italy, France; this place is in my top five. The staff is great - but don't expect fake smiles and do-anything-for-a-tip here. You're going to get real people; sometimes wise-cracking, sometimes mellow ... always genuine and real. Talk to them and you'll see their passion for making great food. Atmosphere is charming. I'm not sure why this place has such good reviews. We have tried it at least 3 times over the last 10 years and it consistently sucks. It had been a few years, so we tried again tonight. I ordered Chicken Parmesan, and my husband the Veal Parmesan. Our food took quite a while to come out, and when it did, you can imagine our disappointment to find that our meals had obviously been microwaved. There is no mistaking that gamey chicken taste after it's been sitting in a fridge for far too long, thrown in the microwave, and drowned in marinara. The waiter was nice enough to take it off the bill. There is junk stacked up all over the restaurant, which pretends to be fancy in their pricing and attitude, but clearly doesn't deliver a $22 Chicken Parmesan when it tastes like gross old leftovers. This place is a real diamond in the rough! Having been to their highly successful location in Kirkland many time in the past 10 years, I was suprised they would open a location in a small strip mall in a residential neighborhood like this. But, after talking to the owners, I discovered that the Kirkland location has been sold, may soon be torn down, and that this Mill Creek spot was their permenant and ONLY location. WOW! Let me also say that I see a bad review was written by someone in December. . . . only 2 months after they opened! Well, when we went last night it was packed, the service was spectacular, and the food and wine was even better! We enjoyed their Penne Gorganzola, Calimari, Puttanesca, and an amazing candied pear desert. The owners were very friendly, and made a personal connection with every patron taking time to say 'hi' and personally refill wine, etc. The cocktails have always been of the highest quality, with fresh squeezed Margaritas, Greyhounds, etc. And my favorite is their Spanish Coffee with Tia Maria and caramalized sugar on the rims. . . . as an ex-bartender these little extra touches make a great impression. We recommend, even if it's out of the way. You won't be disappointed! read more

We have had dinner here many times. The appetizers are delicious. The pasta are scrumptious. The sauces are well developed with great flavor. The seafood is perfectly cooked every time. They have a great wine selection. It is intimate and families are welcomed. The waiters are top notch, very professional and well informed of the menu options. The menu is developed perfectly to give you lots of choices, yet limited so you can make a decision. We love the bruschetta for our appetizer, so delicious we usually get several because we always want more. This is a downtown restaurant in Mill Creek. I would have given them no star, but it was not an option. In my life I have written only one bad review and this is the second one. I will try to keep it simple, but I may not be able to because it was the worse experience ever. The service was horrible, the food was terrible, the owners were the worse. My daughter and I went to have a pre Thanksgiving dinner. We ordered and appetizer (which was not good, salty, bad flavor), two entrees and one cosmopolitan. Nothing was good, but we figured, well, let's pay for one entree and the appetizer (I took two bites from my entree and my daughter had half of hers) I had one sip of my cosmopolitan. When the check came I told the waiter I was not going to pay for my Entree. He did take it off my check, I went to the owner to let her know that I had a sip of the drink and that I was not going to pay for it since I order the drink to have it with my dinner. It made sense to me that if I was not going to eat my dinner I was not going to sit there and have an alcoholic drink. Her response was that she was not going to take it off my bill and I need to pay for it, she actually told me told me go and sit down and have the drink. I told her very politely that was not going to drink it pay for the drink, then she said I am going to call the cops and she actually did. Really? Over a $10.50 drink that I barely touched???? Here comes the funny part, as I was trying to make sense of the whole thing while talking to the owner, ( I was in the front of the restaurant) a lady from the table next to us decided to get up and take my drink. While I was waiting for the cops to come I approached the lady and said to her: since you decided to have a sip of my drink you might as well pay for it. Her response was, well I saw a full drink and since you left it I took it. The worse is yet to come, the owner tells the waiter go ahead and transfer that drink to that table and then picks up the phone and cancels the cops. Then, the husband/owner asked me what was the problem and I said there's no problem here, I just don't think the situation hasn't been managed quite well. To my surprise his response was, we have been here for 10 years and we have quite a clientele, you won't be missed here. First time visiting and was very happy. The food was very tasty and well made. The server was charming, happy, and knowledgeable. It was an unusually busy night so things took a bit longer but the server was so sweet and working so hard that it didn't bother us to spend a bit more time hanging out. If waiting for 20+ minutes just to see your waiter is your thing....keep reading. I'm so disappointed and downright furious about our experience at Calabria that I cannot NOT give this review. We decided to try this new place as a celebration for moving into our first home in the area. We arrived and was immediately greeted by the owner. He introduced himself, SHOOK OUR HANDS (what! I was impressed!) and walked us to the table. He said his wife owned the restaurant and was a true Italian. We were stoked. And then everything went to H E Double Hockey Sticks. Here's how everything went down... Our waiter (disheveled looking man in his late thirties) came to the table 20 minutes LATER, without water, without bread. We watched him walk around to numerous tables without making eye contact which already set me off. We knew what we wanted to order and placed it right then. He apologized for the lack of bread and drinks and said he would bring them right away. Cut to: 15 minutes later when my warm Pinot Gris was delivered and still no bread (we asked him a third time by now). Already pretty frustrated and fed up, we stayed until our food arrived. Well, my husband's order was wrong but didnt want to mention anything because at this point we were at the restaurant for over an hour and 15 minutes. My food wasnt great but at this point, it was ALL about the service. Once our food was provided, we LEGITIMATELY did not see our waiter for over 30 minutes. We were done and over this place after 15 minutes so you can imagine what we were feeling. It took EVEN LONGER for the check, still no apology. Oh. Let me mention this. A younger couple who seemed to be regulars walked in about an hour after we arrived. They were treated LIKE CELEBRITIES! I was LIVID AT THIS MOMENT. Their waiter was with them nonstop, brought them different wines to try, the wife owner talked to them shortly SEVERAL TIMES she didnt even BOTHER to look at us at our table. I was so furious with this entire experience at a "family owned Italian" restaurant, we were treated like garbage and the owners couldnt care less. Maybe the husband should spend less time at the bartop on his laptop all night, and more time engaging with customers to make sure their visit is going as planned. As we left, I explained to the wife that we will never return because of the experience and for some reason she was shocked! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?! OBSERVE YOUR WAITERS, GO TO THE TABLE AND ASK IF THEY ARE HAVING A GOOD TIME. This restaurant has been around for decades and was previously in Kirkland. I was presently surprised to find out they were still around. I went in for the first time in May & was surprised that the Italian owner was actually in the kitchen cooking the food! You never find that anymore. The menu stated the chicken Gorgonzola was world famous. Now, I have worked in Italian restaurants for 26 years so I was highly skeptical that it would blow my mind. Fast forward until today & I'm still stuck on it. However, I bring friends often so we can dine family style & so I can try other things. The Veal Parmigiana is to die for & the Filet Mignon with a Gorgonzola cream sauce & mushrooms is heavenly. Their Bolognese sauce is hearty & authentic, & the marinara sauce is bursting with perfectly balanced flavors & has a subtle, satisfying tangy aftertaste. Say goodbye to bland, unremarkable red sauces here. Oh, & I almost forgot to mention the Fra Diavola shrimp, which is an entree but I have it as an appetizer, and the salmon, halibut & shellfish are of the highest quality and always super-fresh. You want pasta instead of potatoes and vegetables? No problem. You want to special request pesto or lasagna your next visit? No problem. Not so at many other restaurants especially authentic Italian. They now know me by name here, even the back of the house employees and truly make me feel like family. I have tried all of the trendy new Seattle Italian restaurants and though their okay or even good, they cannot compare to this restaurants authenticity, consistency or the breadth of the menu & specials. Do yourself a favor & make the trip out here, like I do 2-3 times a week now, you won't be disappointed. Oh yeah, & the desserts are delicious too. My family and I are new to the area and have thought of trying this place at some point, but will never patronize this business after how my wife was treated last night. She was looking to grab a quick bite with our daughter and the host had a condescending attitude, immediately saying they were all booked up while the restaurant was half empty. He eventually said there could be a table available in 30 minutes, but based off his initial response had clearly made the assumption they just shouldn't be there. This place is an experience and a lot of fun to eat at. Plus the food is wonderful! We won't even be done with our meal and our group is planning when we can be back to try more of the dishes. We arent getting through the menu very fast because we always get the off menu specials! It's not really the place to go for a quiet or serious night out as the "everyone is family" mood always fills the room with smiles and laughter. SERIOUSLY?) manicotti - two small manicotti, but they were very good. don't remember price, but about $14-$15? shrimp diavolo - good, but a small portion $18?!?!?! glass of chainti - $9.50?!?!?! good lord. stella - about $4. chocolate cake - interesting - salty frosting - about $6 all in all, we paid $80 for that meal, and it was nowhere near worth it. pretty bummed, because it's right around the corner. we were hoping that whatever replaced the last restaurant in that space would be as good and prices would be reasonable, but oh well. if the portions were bigger, we wouldn't mind the price (or the other way around), but the small portions and large price will probably keep us away. read more

We walked in, 5 of us. The restaurant had about 5 tables full and Atleast 6-8 open. The first thing the woman said was " do you have a reservation?" We said "no. " the place was full of empty tables though. She then told us that they couldn't seat 5 of us. Pushing 2 tables together would have taken 2 minutes but if we had a reservation it would have been different???? We said we'd go somewhere else and she said " okay!" We'll never go back. I thought it was strange that my Chicken marsala did not come with pasta but I also thought it was strange when we walked in on a Friday night, and there was only one other table Having dinner. All I can say is... prepare for disappointment. Better yet, don't get your hopes up - this restaurant is in no way associated with the former Calabria in downtown Kirkland, despite what I had been told by several people. First, the positives: - The menu is small (a dozen or so entrees), which gives usually means that they know how to make what is on their menu very, very well - It's a pretty small joint, with maybe 18 or 20 tables, giving it a cozy feel despite being in a strip mall - Ample staff to take care of all their clientele - The wine list is somewhat brief, but not so much so that it's lacking - The staff is attentive and very friendly - The atmosphere is casual (most of the staff were wearing Seahawks shirts/jerseys) and easy, so we were all pretty relaxed The downside: - When we walked in, we asked for a table for four (my wife and I got there about ten minutes before our friends), and the host (the owner?) asked if we had a reservation... there were four occupied tables at 6:45pm on a Thursday night - when I glanced down at the reservations list, it was completely empty - The menu being small is not an indication of the quality or authenticity of the food, despite my sincere hopes otherwise - The dining area is tight, with little room between tables/chairs, but there is plenty of room for servers and customers to walk freely to the restroom without obstruction - The wine list is rather spendy compared to many other area restaurants, but not obscenely so - Some of the staff is undertrained, and while I get that people have to learn at some point, being given free reign over tables, with minimal oversight on your second night, is not indicative of proper training or of a management team that cares about their customers - No antipasti on the menu... seriously? Seriously. - We had to ask for bread. Twice. We then asked why none of the dishes come with a side of noodles - a traditional side dish at most Italian restaurants, and at pretty much every restaurant in Italy - and our server said he didn't know and that the entrees all came with fresh steamed vegetables. Poor kid. He did his best, but he had little knowledge and understanding of the menu, and I blame the owner/manager for that failure. - It isn't cheap... four of us got out of there for $160 after tip, with just two glasses of cheap-ish wine and two beers in that total Most of the food wasn't truly bad. It was just... underwhelming and disappointing, across the board. Veal piccata - it was so-so... the capers tasted funny (almost, dare I say, stale?), and good grief, they gave me about two hundred of the little suckers, the veal was way overcooked and had a texture that made me think it was likely a frozen cutlet, but the sauce had a decent lemon twinge that didn't overwhelm Bruschetta, with balsamic vinegar and goat cheese - excellent flavors, great crisp to the toast, huge pile of fresh tomatoes, but we had to ask for the balsamic and goat cheese Chicken parm - also way overcooked, it basically had a quarter-inch cheese slab on top of a block of very, very, very well done chicken, and the sauce tasted like it was straight out of a can Caesar salad - tasted like a store-bought dressing over wilted romaine leaves... did I wander into Olive Garden? Clams - pretty darn good, and while not amazing, it was the highlight of the meal for the entire table Chicken gorgonzola - just... gross... flat-out gross. ATMOSPHERE: C+ SERVICE: C- FOOD QUALITY: C PORTION SIZES: C+ VALUE: D We will not be returning, and I will go out of my way to recommend other Italian restaurants in the vicinity. It's way overpriced for the quality and quantity of the food provided, and despite the rock-star status of the clams and bruschetta, our dining out dollars will be spent elsewhere. read more

Best Italian place in town. The service is fantastic and the food is delicious. I usually go for their spaghetti di mare and love the half-price wine nights (selection is not huge, but it is par for the course for any Italian joint and has some good stuff you won't find most other places). Went the other night (4th time I'd been there) and even though they were pretty much completely swamped they were able to immediately clear a table and get me sat down. I ordered the special - shrimp and andouille sausage ravioli with a creamy tomato sauce - holy moly it was good. About normal pricing for a restaurant of its quality.
