I really loved these beef noodles. My first meal once I landed in Calgary... and also my last on the way back to the airport. It really was THAT good! I got a #1 and #7 and the flavors were different for both but very good. My favorite was the #7. First time we ordered when we got there and the turnaround time was so quick. They stretch the noodles right in front of you so it's a super cool experience. The second time, I ordered on DoorDash for pick up. It got pretty busy during lunch time the first time I went and there were a lot of people there, but there were no problems with seating. Definitely wish there was a Calan closer to me but will always stop by if I'm the area again!

Really liked this place. The tea egg was good -- super flavorful and not dry at all. Got the Lanzhou noodles with pickled mustard greens. Broth was comforting, beef was tender, and the noodles had a nice bite. The pickled greens added a little sour crunch that made it even better. Would totally come back!

Ordered takeout from here. It came very well packaged and was very good. They had me with the Xi'an style lamb sandwiches. It did not disappoint. About as close as the one I had in Xi'an. My one small nit was that the bun was ever so dry/tough. I also had the thick hand pulled noodles with beef and they were very good as well. The dish was a bit on the salty side, though. I will give props to their service too. I asked for the carrots to be removed and that proved impossible, for very understandable reasons. Rather than just delivering the meal, they called to make sure it was ok. I truly do appreciate the gesture.

This is hands down one of the top 5 best hand pulled noodles I've ever had! I order their beef noodle soup and not only was it flavorful, the noodles were incredibly chewy. Food: Writing this review is honestly making me crave their noodles. I love the texture of the noodles and felt that the soup was very fragrant. I usually am not able to take hot chili, but the chili oil they add at the end made the bowl of noodles even better. Service: You order your food at the counter first and then they bring it out to you on the table after. The staff were very nice and I don't really have much to comment on it. Ambiance: The restaurant itself is a bit small. It seems like majority of the people who buy food here take it to go. However, I would say the restaurant probably can comfortably sit around 10 people.

BEST. HAND PULLED NOODLES. Dishes: Just get the hand pulled noodles in beef soup dish and you won't regret it. They had one of the best hand-pulled noodles I've ever had. They didn't skimp on the broth either, it was so flavorful. Logistics: -limited, private, parking lot -I believe it's cash only

Our first stop in Calgary! We were starving after our flight, and we were craving soup so we decided to stop by Calan Beef Noodle. My friend got the hand pulled noodle in beef soup and my sister got the hand pulled noodle with pickled sour mustard in beef soup which was so freaking spicy. I ordered the hand pulled noodle with soy bean paste since it was kind of warm outside and I was not trying to sweat. The noodle texture was 10/10 and it definitely hit the spot!

Pretty good authentic Taiwanese food for Canada. After arriving in Canada I looked for restaurants nearby and was super pleasantly surprised to see a beef noodle soup place nearby. The pickle flavor in the soup was a bit strong but overall it was good. The food did come out face but they didn't let you alter the order at all which was unfournate. The restaurant is very small and cramped so don't go there with a large group. Overall a good place to get some food. 8.5/10

I haven't had hand-pulled noodles in ages but Calan Beef Noodle has been on my list to try. They specialize in Lanzhou eats and have a second location in the downtown area. This one is located in a small plaza that also houses Caribbean Choice Foods. We dropped in on a Thursday for a late lunch (around 1:00pm). You go up to the counter to order. There's also a self serve water jug right there. The menu consists of 13 options along with a few appetizers. Four noodle types to choose from (thin, thick, flat & narrow and flat & wide). They also sell their own chili oil jars ($10.99). - Combo A + Hand pulled noodle with pickled sour mustard in beef soup (#2) ($19.99) - we picked combo A for the simmered beef shanks (thinly sliced and tender) and tea egg. Went with the thick noodles, which had a good firmness. We opted for the spicy version which added a touch of heat. The beef itself was a mixed bag of tender and slightly dry pieces. Wish they gave a bit more daikon. However, the sour mustard added a nice contrasting element. Broth was light and clean. - Stir-fried noodle with cumin lamb and vegetables (#9) ($15.99) - the flat and wide noodles had a good elasticity to them but could have had a more toothsome bite. They weren't heavy on the cumin and the pieces of lamb were decent. A couple pieces of broccoli, carrot and bok choy rounded things out. Okay but I've had better. For the price, I want a bit more of everything from Calan. 3.5 stars.

Oh my goodness. This place ascended my soul. Vegetarians who love Chinese food, look no further, we got a fantastic meal right here. I got their hand-pulled noodles in chili oil and vegetables. Service was blazing fast - their chef pulled the noodles in 20-30 seconds, threw it in the giant vat of boiling water, and by the time I got back from the bathroom, they already had my bowl ready to go. The flavor was fantastic, the noodles absorbed the chili oil and flavorings like a sponge, and the noodles themselves were perfectly chewy. The vegetables don't quite take on the flavors in the same way, but I didn't mind that because the main attraction was the noodles. If you're visiting Calgary, I would put this place as a must visit. Easily the best meal I had the entire trip.

Visiting Calgary on a chillier rainy day and was crazing a good bowl of noodle soup. Calan definitely did not disappoint!. you friend and I both got the Beef Braised Noodle Soup. I got the flat wide noodles and she had gotten the thick regular hand pulled noodles. We asked for extra spicy and although the color was there, the chili oil and chili was not actually spicy but that's okay, I didn't mind. Flavor of broth was great and texture of noodles was exactly what I was looking for. For those are are use to hand shaven noodles, Calan is slightly different with their noodle types but I thought equally delicious. We also got two tea eggs and the two seasonal veggies. The veggies i felt were well worth the money, quantity and flavor wise these two appetizers definitely would've cost me more in the US. The place was small but cozy and employees were all very kind. I 100% recommend

Hand pulled stir fry noodles and beef braised noodles

First time coming here with my bf. I chose the braised beef noodles and he got the stir fry. Mine was a bit salty for my taste but still pretty good, bf's tasted great and I kind of wish I had his instead ha. The portion size is pretty generous. Place is smaller than I expected. Staff was friendly and fast service. Would come back to try their other menu.

Was delighted to find a true Lanzhou hand-pulled noodle destination and once identified, made a beeline here for lunch. Arrived on a chilly Tuesday around 12:30 p.m. and the place was packed, always a good sign. Ordered two bowls of spicy cumin lamb noodles and relished in the heat which appears to be a combination of traditional chiles but also a bit of ground Szechuan, just the right amount to give the dish additional interest, the heat mingling with the mild numbing sensation along with the cumin--a match made in heaven. I dream about this dish when I'm home and my wife and I have fond memories of diving into a similar meal in New York City years ago. Watched with anticipation as the noodles were stretched to our specifications. I ordered wide and flat, my wife a more traditional round/thin shape. The bowl came with bits of carrot, bok choy and what appeared to be stems and ends of broccolini. Had a nice chat with some locals who asked if it was our first visit. Certainly was, and we discussed the anticipation of watching the dish being created before our very eyes. They smiled, they knew what was coming. By the time our order arrived the lunch crowd was clearing out so we took our time and devoured both bowls, barely a drop of anything left. The noodles were tender, savory and soaked up the sauce, perfectly al dente (if there is such a thing for Lanzhou) making each bite a delight. I typically have to visit Queens, NY to get this dish so finding it in a new location I'll be visiting often (family) is a real plus. They've apparently opened a second location near downtown, so why not? With only a few reviews I hope to visit there one day. You should too. For $32 a real treat, a special meal, one I won't soon forget. Very highly recommended. If you come: they don't take American Express. Limited lot parking with signs letting you know if you shouldn't park in a spot. Limited seating, no reservations, come early or late because it's likely going to be busy with this kind of quality.

Our go to local noodle spot. The #1 and #8 are my favourite. It is a fun place to go and watch them hand pull the noodles.

It's easy to not even know it's there, if you are traversing the Plus 15's between the two buildings -- you need to sidestep through the doors of "First Alberta Place," and it will be sitting in the back corner: one wall a soup and sandwich counter, and one wall a Chinese buffet. There's nothing here to "wow" you: hand written information on the wall. A pretty limited selection of sandwich toppings. Not a lot of variety of soups day to day. Scowls. And most importantly, they take cash only (I've been burned by this at the register once or twice when I forgot). But you can get a pretty damn cheap lunch here. Seriously -- for the longest time, the large soup was two bucks (or maybe it was even less)? On days where I forgot my wallet and thought I'd starve to death, Apple bailed me out with their two dollar soup (that much change inevitably kicking around my desk and amongst my pocket lint). And you serve the soup yourself, so you can make it as "hearty" as you wish (to hell with the stragglers showing up late -- they can have broth). I was there a moment ago, and soup has gone up to $2.65. It was around $2.00 in 2006 when I started going. Not a bad increase, and still plenty cheap. BLT's were $3.95 today You get the idea: cheaper lunch than what you can brown bag.
