The vet there, I don't even know his name, b/c he never bothers to introduce or interact with me. I've been taking my dog there for 5 years and I always feel anxious there thinking about how much the visit will cost. Yesterday's experience was the final straw. Off the bat, just starts listing all these things my dog needs. He's telling me like 10 things at once--and I just needed to take my dog in for her annual so that they can refill her allergy medication. My POV is this doctor just tries to squeeze you dry any way possible. Feels like a dentist when they tell you need all these other procedures when you go in for a cavity. I'm definitely going to search for a new vet. Lmk if anyone has any recommendations. read more

Looking for a good vet look no further this place is amazing. They truly care about the animals and the staff is amazing. They're always super sweet giving free treats to my dog moon. They seem like they really care about animals which is a type of place I would like to go. They also have a very friendly payment plan 0% interest, which is unheard of I mean, that helps a lot because it's expensive sometimes they take care of our animals we care about. I definitely recommend this place. They just upgraded their location to a bigger one super nice always clean five stars all the way I will continue to bring my animals here. We rescued an abused/abandon/shutdown four year old GSD dog. We've had her a little over a year now, and she has come a long way. She is my shadow and sees me as her protector. I took my dog in to get her nails trimmed. She refused to go with the tech. The tech started dragging her across the waiting room floor. I immediately told her to stop. I walked her into the back, but the technician didn't seem very happy with me back there. I asked if I could remain. Technician just hesitated and finally said yes. My dog was crying and yipping and trying to get away for she was scared and it hurt. At no time did she try to bite the technicians. I was holding her face/neck and trying to comfort her, but that wasn't helping. They placed a muzzle on her, which was totally unnecessary. But I let it be. A couple months prior to this appointment, I did schedule her to have her teeth cleaned. I voiced my concern on traumatizing her by dropping her off at 7:30 AM in the morning. I did not want to place her in an environment where she's placed in a kennel with other dogs around her that mimic a shelter environment. I didn't want her to think she was being abandoned. We did argue, then Dr. Bajwa came on the phone. He instructed me to drop her off at 11 AM. I was under the impression this would be her appointment time to get her teeth cleaned. My dog did walk back with the technician just like she has done in the past when getting her vaccinations and her nails trimmed a couple times already. She was hesitant, but was cooperative. I informed the technician that I was going to wait in the waiting room, until she was put under. Just in case she was being uncooperative. I was sitting in the waiting room for only like five minutes or so, when Dr. Bajwa came out and informed me that if I wanted to wait for my dog, I could wait in my car. She has been given a sedative and is resting comfortably. It's a very large waiting room and nobody else was there. I left and came home. It wasn't until they called me over six hours later that I realized her appointment wasn't at 11 AM. They had been working on other dogs prior to her. Needless to say, I was very angry and this incident/procedure has left her severely traumatized. The one thing, I was trying to avoid. I asked them if I could remain with her in the back, but that was a no. Dr. Bajwa never spoke to me regarding how the procedure went or the x-rays, etc. The technician just said everything went well. Lord knows how she was treated when she was back there. My very first visit there was an annual exam shortly after adopting my rescue. We saw Dr. Bajwa who did that conduct a full/complete annual exam. She was also having diarrhea at the time and he quickly diagnosed her with pancreatitis. I informed him, that she does not have pancreatitis and that she was reacting to her second dose of Simparica. He said we should do a $400 blood test to rule pancreatitis out. I said no. If one is going to be in the veterinarian business, I would think that they would know that dogs can also have reactions to medications. When I was checking out. I had a pleasant conversation with the front desk personnel, whom I believe was Luna. I informed her that my dog was reacting to Simparica, due to the diarrhea. She didn't realize that flea, tick and heartworm medication could cause this type of reaction. I informed her that people need to read the paperwork that is given inside the medication boxes. It can also cause seizures and neurological damage. She thanked me for bringing that to her attention. I will have to agree that Dr. Anderson is awesome! When my dog had conjunctivitis, Dr. Anderson was very patient and really good with her. I just wish this team could have a little more empathy for dogs who have had a rough start in life. read more

The vet is just there to spoon fed you every kind of charge they can rack up. He is NOT there to actually help you. I recommend calling different places finding a low exam charge and only going in for what you actually need. (Alternatively you can go to a website that sells pet medicine) Do not let this vet with an expensive car sitting in the parking lot over charge you. There is always another vet you can bargain with. Trust me, I'd take your pet somewhere else. I witnessed the overwhelming overcharging first hand: Someone overly nice like this is just taking your money right out of your pocket! read more

Our dog is always up charged during our appointments, rather than letting the dog owner decided. Products and fees are being "shoved down" our throats as we take our little one to get a check-up. I started visiting the clinic in search of an available clinic for travel health certificates. However, what started as a routine visit before travel evolved into a more intensive treatment. My dog already had a heart murmur, and when the time came for in-depth heart checkups and treatment, Dr. Bajwa and the clinic became a lifeline! Last week my dog was gasping for air, almost died, but thankfully they did an amazing job stabilizing him. We thought we were going to lose him, but after a few days, my dog is back to his old self, alive and able to be comfortable again. I've been taking my dog Lil Son to Dr. Bajwa at Calaveras veterinary clinic for a few years now. when I found Calaveras I knew I was in the right place. As a first responder, with a very demanding work schedule. I called the office with concerns that my dogs health and They got me right in. Answered all my questions and treated my baby with the utmost love & genuine care. I have since added another dog our family. Both dogs have had all their shots been spayed and neutered and been most recently treated for an ear infection. Costs are competitive care is impeccable. Took my dog in for a scratch on his eye. First visit was $350 for meds and UV light analysis of the eye which is literally drops in the dogs eye, and a UV light shined at his eye in the dark. Takes 1 minute. Came back for a checkup, scratch still remains and charged $178 for the checkup. Now the third visit is where I am disappointed. I can clearly see the scratch is still visible on his eye without any tests. The doctor decides to still light test the eye and tell me "it's still there", give me 3 more meds and refer me to someone else for $392. $920 to not fix any issue and refer me to a specialist. read more

We've been taking our pets here for over 16 years. They are a bustling business but somehow manage to squeeze in appointments the day of. As a veteran of the industry, Dr. Anderson has such a deep love, knowledge and sense for the animals... it's unmatched. Talking to him is like a warm hug. And the office manager Dima, actually gives you that warm hug when you need it the most. She made herself available around the clock -even on her days off - to get things back on track when my kitty got deathly sick with diabetes a few months ago. I can't tell you the peace of mind I felt when Dima stepped in with confident and knowledgeable support during such a vulnerable time. She continues to make herself available for any questions and concerns and to ensure patients receive the most accurate and attentive care. She IS a warm hug of a human! read more

This clinic answered right away, the receptionist who answered the phone was very friendly and knowledgeable on dental cleaning/extractions and completely explained the process with detail so that I fully understood the cost and what to expect. Thankfully, I was able to schedule an appointment with bloodwork the same day for my precious baby and I'm looking forward to bringing her to this clinic for a cleaning/extractions. read more

DO NOT RECOMMEND! My boyfriend went here for his new 3 month old puppy because he was due for his next set of vaccines. We all know new pups shouldn't be around other dogs until they are fully vaccinated right? So we came into one of the exam rooms to wait for the vet. We didn't even want to put our pup down because the exam table did not look clean, we ended up using their wipes to clean it ourself. There were dog hairs all over it and slobber stains from other dogs. The floors were filthy and felt gritty and dirty. There were hugeeee clumps of dog hairs on the floor. Clearly they do not clean the rooms often. So Dr.Bajwa comes in and we show the paper work of what our pup needs. He did an "exam" which consisted him looking at the pup and moving his arms and and legs around and said "he looks healthy". Later to find out from another vet that our pup has mange and he had hair loss on certain parts of his body that Dr.Bajwa clearly didn't do a thorough examination but still charged us for something we could done ourselves. He continued to try and sell other shots/vaccines/services that our pup already had or did not need. He took some off then took our pup to the back do get his shots and his ear cleaned. After our pup got everything, the bill ended up being expensive because the doctor forgot to take off 2 of the services we said we did not need. And apparently since it was already done they couldn't take it off the bill. Clearly the doctor didn't listen to us at all not cared about our concerns. We left and took our pup home and he was super bloated, lethargic, and looked sick the rest of the day till the following day. The vet gave our pup things he didn't need which led to him feeling terrible. Our poor pup didn't have the energy to do anything that day and we were so concerned we were gonna take him to the ER. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS VET. The vet provided terrible service and obviously only cares about getting money and not about the health and safety of our dogs. read more

My experience recently has been with a very old senior (almost 19 years old) male papillon, mellow therapy dog...to my new puppy, a very energetic, sporty, and highly agile male papillon. I usually order my dogs flea meds on chewy because it's convenient. The doctor had denied the last prescription online because he wanted a weight check done first which is understandable. I took my dog in to get weighed and they informed me he needs a heart worm test before they can give me the flea meds. He was just seen last month for a full screening by another vet so I thought that was already taken care but unfortunately it wasn't. I agreed to the bloodwork and they came back and told me they haven't seen my dog in a while so on top of the heart worm test he needed a full examination...after I had shown them my dogs records that he was just seen elsewhere last month and is completely healthy. Ended up going elsewhere for much cheaper price! This place is money hungry! read more

Updated review: TLDR; It just felt like Caleveras Vet was so strongly pushing to have my dog do dental cleaning, and didnt really care much about the real issue i brought my dog in. Not only that but failed to disclose to me that my dog had early signs of kidney failure. *** I brought my dog in because she was having random flesh wounds on her body - totally at random. (She's older so doesnt go out much to play with other dogs, and is very mellow/doesnt get into anything). When i brought her in, the doctor barely examined the wound and went straight to her teeth. He said she needs a dental cleaning and due to her teeth, she is likely spreading bacteria to her skin when she bites to scratch herself. I stressed that she hardly itches or bites at herself...so how can that be? (One of the wounds was on the back of her neck where her mouth cant even reach) Well, im not a doctor so who knows. He kept pushing that she needs dental cleaning, and i wasnt opposed to this idea. They did her blood work & gave me a quote for the dental cleaning - since shes a senior, they said theyll get back to me by the end of the week to let me know if she has any health issues that would contraindicate the procedure. A week past and i didnt hear from them. I had to call in and asked if they can email me the blood test results & asked if everything came up ok for her. They said her blood test came back normal and asked if i wanted to schedule the dental cleaning. I had gotten a quote elsewhere that was much more reasonable. I sent this other vet the blood test results. This clinic told me that my dog has early stages of kidney failure. He said some medical term first and i was confused. This vet asked "did Caleveras Vet not mention this to you?" ...no...no they didnt... Good thing it's early stages and her kidney levels can be monitored with better diet and supplements. But i was tearful. They didnt explain the chart to me, how was i supposed to know what i was looking at??? This other vet wasnt even trying to pressure me to buy the special kibble that was sold there. He wrote the name down for me to look into purchasing if i wanted to. read more

Follow up review: my dog died this past May. While dr anderson was helpful as always in making sure that my dog was cared for and on the right medication while he was still living, after he passed away it was hard because the office kept calling to book a follow up for my dog who was already gone. It was very upsetting. Though I called them the day he passed away i probably didn't tell them who I was when I was asking about cremation options (they have a service up in napa ...I didn't want my dog to be taken so far away so I went with a local service I found elsewhere) -nor did they ask who he was. I didn't realize that they wouldn't update their records and actually call me for a checkup. Ironically this was the first time they called me for a checkup in his close to 14 years of life and he was already gone. It was really hard and I had to inform them of his name and tell them to stop calling because he died. The reason why I'm writing this review is because while they did stop calling me, about a month later I received a post card in the mail asking me to contact them for dental services or a check up or something ...again for my deceased beloved pet. It's been really hard grieving for him and these horrible thoughtless reminders aren't helping. read more

When Dr Anderson ran the clinic, I would drive for dozens of miles to have him see my doggies. He was the absolute best vet anywhere. In 2023, he retired. Bummer. The clinic has gone way downhill since then. The new vet is not thorough, doesn't seem to care about animals, constantly wants to sell you unnecessary X-rays, services, meds, etc. He never even addressed the issue I came into the clinic for. The staff at the clinic are amazing but without a solid veterinarian, I would never trust this place with my pets. You've been warned. read more

Extremely appreciative of the team here! The office manager, Luna is extremely friendly, informative and most importantly, she cares. You can definitely tell in the tone and care of the team here that they genuinely care for our pets. Brought our cat for her first ever check up. The experience was good, and the staff were friendly and gentle to our cat.

We took our cat in to get a simple procedure and whatever they did to him there, he never recovered. Stay clear of this place.

We took our cat cause was loosing hair, they charged us $400 for a "blood test", we never saw any results, ended up paying another extra $70 dollars for "stress medication " and my cat still loosing hair. I can't say enough good things about the veterinary care my dog received here. From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly compassionate, knowledgeable, and patient. Thanks to their care and expertise, my dog is doing so much better now--happy, more active, and back to his usual self. The follow-up support and attention to detail were also exceptional. Dr. Bajwa is excellent! He is decisive and shows genuine concern for the welfare of my cat Juniper who needed to be referred to an eye specialist for a detached lense, glaucoma and cataract. Dr. Bajwa is accessible. Fremont Vet sends urgent matters to Beacon Veterinary, 7x24 is very expensive. At Calaveras Vet I called at Friday at 3 pm with symptoms of constipation and uti. We were able to see the doctor at 5 pm the same day. This is unheard of in my experience with Fremont Veterinarians. Thank God for the efficiency and professionalism at Calaveras Vet! You can depend on them to be there when you need them! read more

I did my research on yelp and found this clinic for my dog's dental cleaning. However, there are easy- to -see plaque around his tooth: photo was taken today after I bought a head light to brush his tooth so I could see how his teeth otherwise I wouldn't know he didn't get a real dental cleaning as expected. He went to dental cleaning within a half month and we carefully brushed his tooth everyday since. Apparently the plaque shouldn't grow to this much if it has been cleaned appropriately if everything was done professionally. I will call the clinic tomorrow for a reasonable answer if they have and I will come back for a follow up update. I'm very upset right now. I really like the doctor who sees my dog for annual physical examination on our first visit, thus I sent my baby for a dental cleaning even I am so worried about all the anesthesia and cleaning procedure since we couldn't witness the process. I was too fool that I didn't even check if his tooth were cleaned appropriately. Update 1 : I emailed them photos and discussed the issues with the clinic today. The clinic owner is very kind and offer us a free dental cleaning to make things right. Our family is a bit concern if it's safe for him to receive a second anesthesia treatment in a short time, so we will call and discuss with doctor for a certain date that we feel safe for the correction plan. I appreciate that they are taking responsibilities on this. Will post updates after our discussion. Update 2 : Dima ( the case manager) is kind and active on solving this as well. She followed up with the case today. We agreed for another cleaning session for making things correct. I appreciate their positive attitude on this matter and admit the mistake. This vet has gone downhill. I have an elderly cat and the first couple visits we brought him in for were great, they were patient and thorough and the vet gave us great advice. However, our last two or three visits the vets have been short and unhelpful and seemed like they really did not have the time or interest in calling with lab results. The practice did not seem taken care of and was dirty. They also push purchasing everything through them even though we recently took our cat in for labs and vaccines and paid almost a thousand dollars. The only reason this has three starts is the technicians. They're always kind and give great service. Unfortunate that it seems the rest of the staff is unable to give service that this kind of job warrants. Not worth the insane amount of money. read more
