When served, I was pleased to see my order had equal flats and drums. The wings and rings were very filling. I ended up taking two rings and one flat and one drum home. They re-heated very well for the next days lunch. The service was a little off, but I will admit they were slammed. The bartender was slow on greeting and doing follow-up. It may have helped if they had an extra person behind the bar. Even a bar-back would have helped. They may have lost a star this visit, but I am sure they'll get it back soon.

Because, when I do come, I enjoy my experience. The other day I stopped in for lunch and in the foyer, they had a board with weekly specials. One of the specials was, Shrimp Chimichanga. That made my decision real easy. Shrimp Tacos and Quesadillas are my favorite Mexican foods, so why not try a Chimichanga. It came with Refried Beans and Rice. It also has small servings of Guacamole and Sour Cream. The shrimp inside my Chimichanga were good sized and if memory serves me right, there were 8 stuffed inside. If not 8, it was 6 and it filled it to the brim. I love it when an entree has Guacamole, that way you can use it with your chips as you enjoy your entree. It also allows me to order good ole White Cheese Dip at the beginning, to enjoy with the complimentary Chips and Salsa. When I was served mine, the chips were still warm. Nothing beats a fresh warm chip dipped in salsa and white cheese. Dining alone makes it acceptable to double dip mixing the two together. A Margarita was my adult beverage of choice. I enjoyed a Jumbo sized and it lasted me through my appetizer and entree. To my delight, it was served to me in a frosted Margarita glass. I was frosted better than some beer mugs I have had. My server was friendly and attentive. In addition to waiting on tables, he was busy wrapping silverware and his multi-tasking did not take away from quality service. I plan to keep Taqueria Maya in my rotation of Mexican restaurants. It's worth the drive and worth passing by some of their competitors, to enjoy their quality of food.

I had the wedge which had Marcoot cheese curds and Wayfare dressing. It was the best wedge salad I've ever had. Then we waited, and waited, and waited. It was an hour and half before we got our food. People who came in after us got their food, ate, and left before we got our main dishes. My wife had the shrimp and I had the picanha, which they call a pub steak. Everything was cold, the vegetables were ice cold. The picanha was not cooked properly as the fat cap was not rendered at all. It was hard and I had to take it out of my mouth. There was also little no Maillard because it was cooked on a girl but it didn't taste like charcoal or wood; again that's just preference but you should know what you're getting. I would have made our server aware but we didn't see her again for another fifteen minutes. If the potatoes and vegetables had been hot then they probably would have been good. We ended with the Oreo cheese cake. This was very good and the cheesecake was excellent and the crust was very well done as well. It was a bit rich for my personal taste but it was executed well and my wife really liked it. I will add that I don't know if this is the fault of the kitchen or if our server forgot about us and it died in the window, the kitchen should have still caught it if this was case. Overall, we were not impressed and won't be back. Drive the twenty minutes to St. Rose or head to the metro east. Even if everything was the result of our server it reflected very poorly on the restaurant as a whole.

I decided to try the walleye with a side of fries and chili. I thought the chili was mediocre but everyone has a different idea of what good chili is so I'll cut them some slack. The fries were also mediocre. They were lukewarm and had no crisp, obviously had been in the warming tray a bit too long. So why a 4 star rating? Three things: the wait staff was very good, friendly and attentive, the walleye was absolutely delicious, perfectly breaded and cooked, and the meal was very reasonably priced. I mentioned the issue with the fries to the waitress and she told me to be sure to let her know next time and she would be sure to get them fresh, and she really meant it. All in all, a very good experience and we'll certainly be returning.
