Second time here on road trips between SF Bay Area and Oregon. Tesla superchargers a short walk away. Great good, quick and friendly service, tons of beer options. Happy Hour Wednesday to Sunday 2pm-6pm ($4 pints during HH) I had the toasted coconut chocolate porter, shared the dough bites off the HH menu along with the ahi entree and tiramisu cheesecake with my lady. All were very tasty. Nothing leftover! My hubby and I were in town for a wedding and stumbled upon this restaurant on our way to the airport. Location is off the beaten path but very cute once you find it. Host staff was very hospitable which is always a plus upon arrival. HH was happening when we arrived so we chose the herb dough bites off that menu, along with 2 house chardonnays. Dough bites were underwhelming to say the least. Some were hard and some were soft and chewy. They were served with a grainy Dijon mustard and some sort of an aioli sauce. Marinara sauce would have been more appropriate. On to the entrees. I chose the ahi tuna salad and my hubby went with a basic burger. His opinion ... just a burger. Fries were fresh and yummy. My ahi tuna salad came with passion fruit vinaigrette and unfortunately it was super tart and not good at all. Make sure to have them give you a taste before you commit. I asked for a side of balsamic dressing but unfortunately the passion fruit one was already overwhelming it. I know not to order seafood in bar and grill but I thought I was safe with it incorporated in a salad. My advice ... stick with the basics ... beer and a burger !!! read more

While breweries often have limited food choices, the cod special with morels was superb. I love having a beer menu with a half dozen porters to choose from, and my server recommended the chocolate, which was luscious. Of course, that meant I had to have a brownie with homemade ice cream, both using the porter to add flavor. Overall, this was a five star experience for me, due to the stellar service and the lovely view of the green valley outside. read more

Needed to charge my car at the Tesla supercharger and low and behold this plus was right next door. Inside is spacious with lots of outside seating as well. We were greeted and seated quickly. The waitress was attentive and friendly. Tried a flight of five beers. All very good but my favorite was the When Doves Cry Hazy. Shared the fish tacos with my wife, we both liked them. Bought a couple 6 packs and a growler to take with us. Great place to stop even if you're not charging your car. read more

First visit despite driving by frequently over the years. Our group of 5 stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. The brewery opened at noon and we were seated immediately by our awesome server, Camille. Tried a couple of beers and hard seltzers and were impressed with all of them. Personal favorite was the Pilot Rock Porter. Smooth, nutty, chocolatey. Meals we ordered ranged from Fish and Chips to chicken sandwiches, to burgers and everyone was happy. Will definitely go back. read more

Spring finally reared its gorgeous head, so it was time to grab a meal with outdoor seating. Caldera came to mind. Time to soak up the view of the hills and get a little sunshine. I'm not much of a beer snob--to me IPAs taste like the smelly rope you were forced to climb in 3rd grade gym class. Can't comment too much on the selection (lots of IPAs), but I can say the menu made for an intriguing read. They had beers concocted with chocolate, toasted coconut, rose petals, hibiscus, and even Hatch chilis from New Mexico. I picked a nice stout to keep me company. I was impressed with the quality of our main course. We went with the truffle mac to share, and then the Baja fish sandwich (love the name). The noodles in the mac were done just right, firm and not falling apart, doing god's work, carrying the rich and creamy truffle cheese. The fish was cooked beautifully--crisp and seasoned on the outside, flaky and glistening on the inside. The ingredients were all fresh and refreshing. If you're looking for some quality pub food, come out and try it. Pro tip: if you love root beer, they make the best kind. Also available at local grocery stores. Dog Friendly Brewery with Extensive Beer options! Outside Ashland, OR, this Brewery is tucked away off the freeway and out of site. We wanted to tour Ashland's dt & grab a bite but we got shut out on finding a parking spot. Plan B was driving out to Caldera and we're glad we did. It was hot but we were seated quickly at a shady outdoor table and Josh, our server, immediately brought over a dog water bowl for our thirsty boy. Josh took our drink order to get us started and was on top of his game making sure all the outdoor tables were kept happy. Drinks - Amber Beer was tasty and my Oregonian Cocktail made with house seltzer, vodka and local puréed blackberries was out of this world & not too sweet. Food came out quickly and hubby had a solid burger served with delightfully crispy fries and a chipotle ranch dip. I ordered a salad with added grilled chicken. The greens were crisp and I could tell that they made the salad to order because the apple and berries with blue cheese combo were so fresh and well dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette. Caldera Brewery is a 5/5 for being pet friendly, having both indoor and outdoor seating, friendly and efficient servers, extensive beer and drink menu and great food made fresh. On a road trip and stopped by this place. The interior decoration is very interesting and full of characters with beer theme. The food is also yummy and good price with happy hour price between 2pm to 5pm. It's a nice stop for the road trip but just don't get drunk:). Will come again next time if I'm driving by. read more

Popped into Caldera on our drive through town. Great happy hour with $4 pints and $10 fish tacos. They have a huge selection of beer, but I ordered a Juicy IPA, and while I did not ask to double check this honestly tasted like an Amber and nothing like a Juicy IPA so I wonder if the kegs may have been switched. Had a pit stop nearby to charge the car and decided the grab a bite and drink here. The chicken nuggets and tater tots are quite standard. Got the oatmeal stout which was nice. The place was a good spot for charging the car while eating and sipping. It's a pretty big place and plenty of drink options. I like that they have hard seltzers as well. read more

Do not try to enter the building without being told it is okay! You must wait outside to be greeted or you will get scolded! Had a hard time understanding this. Almost turned around and left. Food: good, Beer: okay, Service: bad, Ambience: nice I had lunch here while charging my car, and it was a mixed bag. Service is definitely the weak spot. I ordered a tuna entree that came with mashed potatoes. I asked the waitress to substitute fries since that's what I was in the mood for. "No, we can't substitute. But you can order a side of fries." Seriously? Are their fries so precious, or the chef so self-important that they refuse to sully their dish that way? I was already paying over $30 for the entree and a beer, so I wasn't going to shell out extra for fries. Another service nit: they gave me water without ice. That wouldn't normally be an issue except it was 100 degrees outside, the water was warm within minutes and the server didn't come back for a while. The tuna dish was actually quite good, even the mashies that I didn't want. The dark lager OTOH was a disappointment. Pretty weak and flat. The place looks nice and has potential, but they need to be more customer friendly. read more

We stopped here for our last lunch in Oregon. My sister had been here a few years ago and enjoyed her visit. The view from the parking lot is lovely, and if it had been warmer, we might have sat outside to enjoy the scenery, instead we headed inside. The ambiance is groovy, with a gajillion beer bottles lining the walls. We were waited on promptly by Emily (thanks Emily!), who in addition to being prompt and courteous, also knew her way around the beer options. One thing I look for in a good microbrew is whether they are willing to take the time to create a good root beer as well. These folks have a delicious root beer that actually only has about a third of the sugar or commercial root beer. Yum. For lunch I had the Hungarian mushroom soup which was delicious, as well as pretzel nibs with their stone ground mustard. My companions had fish tacos (which she said were very fresh tasting, and the crema was delic), and a soup and sald combo with the beer cheese soup. All left with happy tummies. One of my companions also picked up a pair of beerings (earrings made from Caldera beer cans)- they are very cute and so colorful because this establishment clearly cares as much about the design of their cans as they do about the contents. They also had a wide variety of Caldera swag, but my suitcase is already full so no swag for me. I was delighted to learn, that you can actually buy their root beer from Amazon (as well as a flavored sparkling water that they haven't even finished creating yet!) We stopped at Caldera on our way up to Crater lake. I was in much need of a beer after the 5hr car ride. The building was nice and open with plenty of seating. Our server greeted us promptly and got to work on telling us about their beer and food. I chose the cascade forward pale ale. It went down quickly and almost too easy lol. Ordered apps and waiter Jamie C was supper insistent on getting food I said I wanted my dinner to come out after we finished apps. Didn't care how long. Not in a rush just after. She said she had a button for that. Got apps and asked for hot sauce. Server forgot but Jamie got it along with our food. I said something about it and she just said O. No apologies or anything. I love Caldera; I really do. Been a customer for years. Beers are always spot on. Staff is always congenial and efficient. Food is really good. But I have to ask about the sides. And this is not unique to Caldera. But we had fish and chips today. It was very good. Fries were crisp and light. Fish had a beautiful - and tasty - fry. Light, airy, perfectly done. The cole slaw was tangy, well seasoned, balanced, but... there was about two tablespoons of it. I would have loved to have twice that amount! I know restaurants are trying to save a buck. I respect that. But is the cole slaw prohibitively expensive? Could you share a bit more of it? We appreciate what you do and would like more of it! read more

So they have the best jalapeño poppers - but now they don't have them. Let's all bother them so they bring them back - they were best. But they DO have tater tots, which are quite crispy, and it's surprisingly hard to find tater tots in this town! I've said it before, but I'll say it again, they have a really impressive selection of beers - so many different varieties and riffs within said varieties. And although they have a ton of mainstays they also always have a few experimental beers on tap, so there is something new for everyone. Open, large, friendly space with quick service. read more

TL;DR: great and wide variety of beers brewed in house, environment and service is midlevel but acceptable, but food consistently tastes like premade Sysco-brand mass produced food (eg, frozen French fries and tater tots, overly well done burgers, etc.) As a local I want to love this place and support it because the beer is high quality with lots of interesting and experimental varieties. But after repeat visits, taking many different visitors and trying many different foods, it's clear that the food is only passable. So I recommend stopping here for beer (happy hour?) and eating elsewhere. read more

I have tried Calderas a handful of times and I wanted to give it a good effort but it has fallen short. For one, when I went the service was extraordinarily slow, we waited almost an hour and 15 minutes after ordering our meal before it came, and 4 of the 6 orders were salads. Plus, they seemed to be out of stock of a decent amount of various items. The food is also not very flavorful, the burgers were not very seasoned and it felt like it didn't rise to the standard of a restaurant. Additionally, their beer and craft drinks are not much to write home about either. Lastly, sometime within the last year they removed their beautiful grass outdoor seating with tables and corn hole to put in additional parking (and even then there is hardly any parking available). read more

Right up the street from where we were staying and we wanted to try a local brewery so it worked out really well. Big space, both inside and outside. Loved the huge open space inside and lots to occupy the eye (for instance we sat at a table with a mosaic of funny and cute cat pictures). I tried their beer cheese soup and mac and cheese, husband got the fried chicken sandwich. Both cheesy items were just the right amount of cheesy. Soup had good flavor without being too bitter or too chewy. The mac and cheese was good, though I wasn't really clear on what type of cheese/s it had. I also added bacon and it had LOTS of it. A bit more cook time on the bacon would have been perfect. Husband said he really liked the chicken sandwich and tots that it came with. We also got talked into the brownie with vanilla ice cream for dessert (wasn't too hard a sell honestly). Very yummy! Not overly chocolatey, as it is made with a stout beer. The seasonal fruit was a few grapes artfully cut up and drizzled with three different sauces. We were quite happy. Our server was very nice (I forget her name) and friendly, and even though she was clearly pulled in a lot of directions, she wasn't frazzled.
