Our beloved Kody, Siberian Husky was at getting towards the end and they helped us so much with the diagnosis and pain management. One of the doctors came to our house on the day we said our goodbyes. It was beautiful, loving, and full of tears. Kody in his final moments was surrounded by his family with an abundance of love. They took him when left us and called us about a week later. We went to go pick him up and it was just want we wanted. We miss him so much but having him at home with his picture in the front allows us to talk to him and give him pets. Yesterday we took my daughter's cat in for an emergency drop off appointment. The woman I spoke to in order to make the appointment was fantastic. When we dropped Ponyo off the receptionist was so sweet. Dr. Jenkins was amazing. She was informative, laid out our options, and spoke with kindness and love. Unfortunately Ponyo passed away while there. Dr. Jenkins was very apologetic, explained what happened, and sounded genuinely distraught. We asked to pick her up so we could bury her at home. When we showed up, me with red rimmed eyes, and my daughter still crying, the woman that helped us (not the same one from the morning) had absolutely no warmth, kindness, or compassion. I said we were there to pick up Ponyo, and the first thing and only thing she said was, "it'll just be $83 for the office visit". No condolences, no kindness in her voice. She then stated "I'll go get him". Him. Ponyo was a female. She didn't even bother to pay attention. When Ponyo was brought out to us she was in an Amazon shipping box, which was all but shoved into my daughter's hands. Again, no amount of kindness or warmth. Nothing. Not a single word. A day that had turned out so horrible was made worse by this woman. How do you look at a crying child and have no compassion? It was in such contrast to Dr. Jenkins that I was taken aback. After the pickup experience we won't return. read more

Many of the techs, some of whom also run the front desk, are rude (especially one in particular), & early in my experience w/this facility of 2 & 1/2 yrs, one of the vets, Dr. Dan McConnel, quoted me $700 for a procedure but then wanted an extra $120 when it came time to remove a holding wire 6 weeks post surgery, of which, was part of the procedure & so should have already been in his quote. I have recently come to understand that all cats w/chronic kidney disease (CKD) should have their BP checked as part of their exams, as high BP, due to CKD, can lead to sudden blindness from retinal detachment, but the Caldwell vets never recommend BP checks for any of my CKD senior cats. I had to start asking for them after one of my senior cats went blind from high BP due to her CKD (I rushed her to West Vet, & she got a little of her sight back due to their lowering of her BP w/amlodipine). However, she will never get all of her sight back & so she is mostly blind now, & this was completely avoidable had any of Caldwell's vets recommended BP monitoring. Caldwell vets have also been doing dental surgeries for years, & still are, w/out the benefit of a dental x-ray machine. These vets are also not the most observant, as Dr Oesch even failed to notice one of my senior cats, Tuxie, had gone blind in one eye (but not from high BP) despite a well lit room where it could plainly be seen that one of Tuxie's pupils was clearly larger than the other, & there had been initial signs of an issue (small red patches in Tuxie's eyes) that I had made an appointment for w/Dr. McConnel 2 yrs prior, but Tuxie's eye issue continued to remain undiagnosed by 3 different Caldwell vets throughout all of Tuxie's subsequent visits until one day I noticed different sized pupils indicating he had become blind in one eye. These vets are also useless when it comes to palliative care for cats w/arthritis, or for other complications of CKD, common in cats. They should at least be up on using marijuana derivatives, as pain management is highly significant to quality & longevity of life. When it came time for me to say goodbye to my cat, Tuxie, now 18 & w/advanced kidney disease, hind leg arthritis, mostly deaf, blind in one eye, & showing signs of being ready to go to the Rainbow Bridge, I wanted as much privacy & care for Tuxie as possible through the process, but I got anything but that as Dr Oesch thought it prudent to get me unnecessarily 2nd guessing my decision, & while inserting his ego into the situation where it definitely did not belong, & there was also no real need for a tech to assist him, of which, just infringed on my privacy (not to mention his oversight in trying to use the tech who had been especially rude to me overtime, & so I asked her to leave...another tech replaced her), & instead of giving both the sedative & the final drug via an IV catheter, Dr. Oesch is in the habit of giving the shots separately which is more painful for cats. There is much more I could elaborate on, as these vets have not provided good overall care for my cats. I advise taking your pet(s) elsewhere, as they only make excuses when you voice your concerns preferring their incompetence to quality pet care. I will be finding a different vet facility to care for my pets. read more

This veterinarian office has been good to us and our pets. Been going for about a decade. Latest visit was today. Our doggo had a large growth on his armpit that had been growing quite fast over the past few weeks. Woke up this morning and it was beginning to leak. Called without an appointment and they said to bring him in and they would check him out between the other appointments. Dropped him off about 9:30am and got a call back before lunch. As expected doggo needed surgery. They took our dog without an appointment, and performed surgery the same day. The veterinarian himself called me and spoke with me and was very kind. read more

My Pets, Both dogs and Cats, Have always gotten the best care and even when my fat cat was put on special prescription food it was cheapest at the Vet so at least In my opinion it was a good choice.. read more

We first started taking our pets to Caldwell Vet back in 1994. A few years ago we moved to Boise so I tried several different vets because they were closer. Never again!!! We are committed to Caldwell Vet as long as we own animals. This past weekend my Yorkie got very sick. I took her to a local 24/7 vet because it was late on the weekend. They informed me she needed to have surgery that night. I was all set until they brought me the quote of $4,799.00 I broke down and started to cry. I had to choose between saving my baby and paying that amount. I chose to take my dog home, but had my husband contact Caldwell Vet. Dr. Oesch was willing to meet us at the hospital if we thought she wouldn't make through the night; otherwise, he would meet us there at 0800. Luckily, she made it through the night and through the surgery. Caldwell Vet was amazing! They took such great care of her. They even removed a mass while she was under and it all cost less then $1000. Wow, what a difference. How can some places play on your emotions like that and try to charge so much? Help at the front desk, the doctors' expertise and willingness to advise, even by phone, and their commitment to listening have reassured us time after time. Don't call them if you have an emergency on the weekend. I called them last night for an emergency for my cat and here it is afternoon on Sunday with no call about anything to check to see if anything was still needed. When it was Dr. Cooper and Dr. Mike they were wonderful now they are just to big and don't seem to care anymore! Would not recommend them to anyone ever! read more
