Had breakfast. Food was good. How much can I say about pancakes and eggs, hashbrowns and bacon? Everything was cooked properly. However this place is FILTHY. Take a close look as the textured walls. They could use a fresh coat of paint, or maybe just a good cleaning. We were seated at a back wall near a corner. There was a pile of chairs or booster seats behind me, and next to that was a piece of furniture with a couple water pitches filled and ready to go. The shelf above the pitchers was so dusty I could have written my name in the dust. Directly above this corner was a heater vent. On the wall next to vent was a nice collection of dust balls, just waiting for the heater to come on so they could drop in the water pitchers. I ventured into the men's room despite my better judgement. Fixtures were passable, but again the walls need cleaning. On the wall above our table were some metal bowls attached to the wall for decoration. The bowls were dirty. They looked like they had been attached to the wall directly from the kitchen, sans dishwasher. I wouldn't return again, unless I saw a post reporting some major cleaning. read more

Approximately every two years we travel through Amarillo and we always make time to stop at least once at Calico County! From the first time I ate here years ago as a girl living in the area, this has always been one of my favorite places for a home cooked meal! The staff is always friendly and the chicken fried corn on the cob is worth cheating on your diet! It's not fancy or expensive but it's definitely worth trying! read more

I had a hard time deciding if this deserved a 3 or 4 star. I gave it a 3 just because it's a pretty run-of-the-mill breakfast joint. It was nice that they brought mini cinnamon rolls before breakfast, and their coffee was actually pretty tasty. If you're looking for something that isn't just like IHOP or Dennys (flavor wise) I don't know if this is the place. But if you want a typical breakfast for not too much it's a nice change. Wouldn't go out of my way to come back I suppose. read more

Talk about Southern hospitality. This place seriously has THE best customer service/staff. It's one thing to be nice, but it's another to be welcoming. The place has a very nice home/country feel to it. I ordered the chicken fried chicken while my boyfriend ordered the fried catfish. Both were absolutely delicious! And as an interesting fact, George W. Bush actually ate at the restaurant along with several other celebrities (mostly country singers that I'm not familiar with). If that many notable people are coming here, you know this place is going to be good. read more

We have eaten hear several times. For the most part we have loved it. Good breakfast, good coffee. For dinner I usually get the fried fish with mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. The second to last time we ate there my son got a hair in his food and when the waitress told her boss, they looked over at us like we were lying and then she walked over and offered to replace his side. Sometimes you can get an older grumpy server who is slow and kinda rude. The last time we were there our server was so sweet and accommodating. So, lately it's just hit or miss with the food and the service. read more

We went for the first time today, Me and my Girlfriend both had the chicken-fried steak and it was cooked just right. The okra and the Black Eyed Peas was good as well. Ordered the grilled ham and cheese. Gotta admit I was a bit disappointed. Chintzy on the cheese and just half ass attempt to melt it. Had to ask for a straw and then had to ask for a drink refill. Not iimpressed this time. read more

I went here for dinner one evening. Ordered a dinner salad, chicken fried steak and baked potato with tea. The ranch dressing for the salad was so creamy and delicious. The chicken fried steak was warm and breaded differently than I'd had before and the potato was good. The tea was so good I got a ToGo order of it. Pretty good breakfast. The chicken fried steak breakfast is a fail safe standard, eggs were cooked perfectly and I like the pot of coffee left at the table. I like the menu and wished I could have stayed for lunch. What I really liked was that the servers don't put up with crap and idiots. A server brought food out to the table next to me and asked them to make room on the table. She asked a second time and finally said that she needed the room to put down the plates. We were looking for a late breakfast and missed it by 10 minutes. Bummer. Cinnamon rolls were a nice treat. Food seemed a little pricey for what it was, but tasted good. Catfish was crispy. Squash casserole was a little too sweet for me but good. Broccoli rice casserole was my favorite. Skipped the Tarter sauce. Tasted funny to me. Husband said the Hush puppies were his favorite thing. I was looking for a BBQ joint that received a 4.5 star rating from Yelp but it was closed. I'm not sure why because it's lunch time and people are hungry around this time of day. Anyway, so I decided to pop into Calico County Restaurant. I ordered the Calico Pig Sandwich. I know what you're thinking, what is that, right? So before I ordered it I asked the waitress and she immediately responded "it's fantastic is what it is!" I couldn't argue with that. Well I ate the whole thing and I still don't know what kind of meat was in it, but it was good! The onion rings were also good, but nothing to rave about. What really counts for me is the service and everyone I encountered from my waitress to the lady that rang me up, were all very friendly and genuine. Thank goodness for the cinnamon rolls because we waited 45 minutes for our breakfast which was nothing special. Calico County Restaurant is a warm, inviting, homey kind of diner. We love the atmosphere with all the relics and treasures from years gone by. We often go for Sunday breakfast. Food is good. I come here when I'm craving 'real' food like my grandmother used to make. The complementary cinnamon rolls are a great touch. read more

Well since the new owners and managers have taken over this place has gotten below standards. The service is slow, rude, and you can hear them in the kitchen laughing and telling stories rather than waiting on their customers. Management is never to be seen or available. Coffee is mediocre to cold and if you ask for more the waiters sigh, roll their eyes and storm off. Prices are average. Bathrooms are nasty smelling and rarely are they mopped. read more
