Maybe they were just having an off day. Maybe there had been a huge rush of orders before we arrived. Maybe there were new cooks. No matter what the excuse my experience was ehh. After reading the comments about the cinnamon rolls I was looking forward to giving them a try. This should have been my first warning - cold and dried out. Hubby ate his chicken fried steak without complaint. He had to work on the okra and greens to give them taste. I ordered open face roast beef. I took a bite and realized that it probably was a feeding ground for food poisoning as it was barely lukewarm. I am being generous with the lukewarm. The waitress, who was very pleasant, apologized and told me that she would put my replacement order in so it would be at the front of the queue. I ordered a hamburger with the thought that it would be fast and easy. 20 minutes later I received a hot, fresh burger with stone cold, overly salted, greasy fries. In the end the manager gave us a $5 coupon we were able to use immediately. Our server, who had promised drinks to go, never returned. read more

This is a great restaurant if you're looking for a nice home cooked meal. They have every kind of southern comfort food you can think of. The fried okra is my favorite right asking side the cinnamon rolls. They also offer catering, my grandmother used their catering services and got pot roast with carrots and potatoes. My husband and I LOVE this downhome cooking restaurant with an "old fashioned diner" atmosphere! When we just want to go out to eat after a hard day, this is where we go. We have eaten the chicken fried steak several times. And we have also eaten the hamburger steak with onions and gravy. We ALWAYS order the fried mushrooms as an appetizer even though they do serve the awesome cinnamon rolls as an appetizer. We have also eaten breakfast there which, again, is really good. My husband orders the huge $11 breakfast and gets plenty of food! I generally order an omelet. Breakfast is hard to not get cooked right, so not a lot to say except that the breakfast is fresh and good. We recently ordered the fried chicken livers. We liked them. They had a delicious batter and were fried nice and crispy but the livers themselves were still tender and tasty. Went for my first time and was disappointed considering all the great reviews. Ordered scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese and onion and hash browns with the same. I don't know if they were having an off day or what but the service was very slow, to the point I was just about ready to get up and leave when someone finally showed up. Placed my order and instead of cheddar cheese on my eggs and hash browns they put American cheese and my eggs were over cooked to the point most of them were crisp. I honestly have no interest in trying again but it appears they have enough of a fan base my business will not be missed. read more

Everything was pretty good. Chicken Fried Chicken was the bomb. Burger was amazing. Onion Rings are good. Mashed Potatoes are great. On the flip side, gravy tasted burnt from bottom of pot....but that just may be how it's made. Would definately come back. Fabulous spot. We were on a long road trip and just craving a good breakfast. Found this spot online and decided to try it out - wow!! The food is amazing - the staff is so warm and friendly and the restaurant is spotless. COVID measures are extremely well thought. This place was a gem! It has a Cracker Barrel feel as far as decor, but that is where it stops! Everyone from the host to our waitress and even the young lady working at the register was very friendly and personable. My daughter and I came for brunch and we were not disappointed! We started out with a hot chocolate and a water. FREE refills btw on the hot chocolates which is different and man, were they good! This wasn't any Swiss Miss tasting envelope mixed with water hot chocolate...this was actually really good. Our waitress even offered for us to take one to go when we were ready to leave! Now, for the meal...I opened what I thought was going to be a basket of rolls, but SURPRISE... homemade cinnamon rolls! Jackpot!!!! I had ordered the fried pork chop and my daughter ordered the Chicken Fried Steak. Both were excellent and came with eggs and our choice of bread. This was roll your eyes in the back of yo head kind of good! I can't wait to return to Fort Smith just for this restaurant. My family loves Calico County. Their meatloaf is very good and I love the skin in mashed taters. The pot roast has always been yummy and I'm a fan of the beans and cornbread. The only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5 is occasionally the cinnamon rolls are hard and the cinnamon rolls are the best part of the meal! The servers are always attentive as well as being friendly. Several servers have been there for years and they're great at their job. Found this gem passing through town and walking distance from our hotel. Our server Brenda was the sweetest gal with the best recommendations! I stuffed my face with the fried pork chops, homemade broccoli & rice casserole and sweet potato casserole and their corn bread muffin. My guy tried the deep fried corn on the cob and blackened catfish. Catfish was delicious, the fried corn was a bit too much for me but still really tasty. We had mimosas and finished with their homemade cherry cobbler. Very reasonable and the friendliest staff ever! I wish we were driving back through soon so we could come back. read more

Used to go there OFTEN "before the fire". "After the fire" went a FEW times and were disappointed BUT NOT VERY UNHAPPY - just a bit disappointed.
