I've had friends with 'fattier taste buds', say Cali Chkn Cafe is a tad bland, (but I just think they're used to eating pizza or meatballs). I love the Chicken Rice Wrap, and the Broccoli pasta side. We went to California Chicken Cafe last night for the Chinese Chicken Salad which is always perfect with tons of chicken, mandarin oranges, crunchy noodles, carrots and yummy dressing that we always get an extra of. Our friend loved the Chinese Wrap on a tortilla as she wasn't in the mood for salad. The wrap is similar to the salad but has snap peas which she loved. I come to the Melrose location all the time for the chicken salad, which is my favorite, and it's one of those places that's just consistently good. Tonight I made sure to get their names because Irvin, Nancy, and Lydia are always so kind and welcoming. The service was satisfactory, and our food was ready fairly quickly. Parking was somewhat challenging due to the restaurant's location in a small shopping center with limited spaces. I parked in the nearby neighborhood, which is permitted parking. I ordered the Caesar Wrap, which is always tasty, especially with extra Caesar dressing on the side. I have frequented the original California Chicken Cafe location on Melrose Ave. since the early 2000s and it has literally never let me down. It started out as a great place to grab an affordable delicious dinner and has transformed into a hub of excellence that ultimately spawned a chain of restaurants around the city. CCC adapted brilliantly during Covid and became a dinner staple on rides home from work. The service is incredible. The fact that they bring the food directly to your car on the curb is huge. The overall energy of the location is perfect and they do such a great job of delivering healthy, yummy and affordable food. A week ago I placed an order and wasn't able to make it to the restaurant until almost an hour after my food was ready. Irvin came right up to my car and I explained the situation. He talked to his manager, Nancy, and they both agreed that I needed to have a new wrap made. They were incredibly accommodating, made the new wrap in minutes and were kind enough to toss in a cookie. It's so rare to continue to have a fulfilling experience over the course of several decades at a single restaurant. It is all due to the efforts of people like Irvin and Nancy that make it possible. They took it upon themselves to go above and beyond the call of chicken duty. I think they could sense it had been a long day at the office and they wanted to help. Why in the FLIP would you get rid of the original Veggie Wrap for that crunchy vegan thing? The whole point of the original Veggie Wrap was to be able to order something very closely spec'ed to the "California Chicken Salad" but with ZERO chance of chicken being added to it by mistake and in the convenient wrapped form. The whole, "just remove it" on another style wrap just has too high of a chance of being disappointed by surprise chicken... How do I know this? Because every time I've ordered my Veggie Wrap late after work and they are deciding to give away free stuff...I'm given chicken...chicken, on an order that ONLY has a Veggie Wrap...
