As much as I love my bank this branch needs more tellers on a Friday afternoon. When you have 4 employees doing what looks like nothing at their desk when you have 8 people in line with only two tellers is frustrating. NEVER BANK HERE AND IF YOU DO WITHDRAW EVERYTHING AND LEAVE If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience with Cal Coast Credit Union has been nothing short of exhausting, frustrating, and disappointing -- especially when it comes to how they've handled a serious case of fraud on my account. Back in early June, a scammer linked their own PayPal and Cash App accounts to my Cal Coast account and stole money without my full understanding or permission. I filed a fraud dispute immediately -- but instead of helping me, Cal Coast denied the dispute, saying I "authorized" the charges just because a code was involved. And it was "directly from the phone"That's not how fraud works first off ok cal coast. What's worse is they admitted it was fraud, but said they don't owe me anything because it would be "their loss." Since when is that an excuse to leave your customer with stolen money, a damaged credit score, and no support? They told me to go chase down the companies myself, contacting PayPal and Cash App -- even though I don't even use those services and never had an account with the scammer's name on it. I was forced to do all the legwork alone, while Cal Coast refused to escalate, investigate properly, or even communicate clearly. They made me wait weeks only to be told "we can't help." Now, because of those fraud charges, my credit score dropped over 60 points, and Cal Coast still refuses to put the charges on hold or work with me to afford the balance. They've left me with debt I didn't create, no accountability, and no protection -- despite the fact that this situation clearly falls under Regulation E, which they are supposed to follow as a financial institution. The lack of empathy, professionalism, and action is shocking. I'm a young adult trying to build credit and stay afloat, and this bank has done nothing but hurt me. I've now had to start contacting legal aid and consumer protection agencies just to try and clean up the damage they allowed to happen -- and they still act like it's not their problem. Avoid this credit union at all costs. If you ever have to deal with fraud, don't expect Cal Coast to protect you. They will leave you hanging, ignore consumer rights, and then push all responsibility onto you. Absolutely disgraceful. read more

They have good customer service.It wasn't hard obtaining a loan.The loan people are easy to work with.But Their IT or whatever computer app they use& they DEPEND ON COMPUTERS !! This credit union is a sham. After opening the accounts there, their "new system" couldn't verify me, and they would not communicate over the phone. By messages, online, they sent a check to close an account - and purposely? glued the check to the inside of the envelope, thus making the check invalid--and further delaying it being properly processed. The new mobile app is terrible every month I am having problems Half the payments don't go through I can't see what I paid last time it has everything lined up with no information have to click 3x to see last payment in date then have to go back to main payment page I have always loved cal coast but I can not do my daily banking on this new app I was hoping would just take getting used to but it just doesn't work read more

So I use to live next to this branch and I moved to Big Bear, which is a couple hours away. I kept the bank for my primary banking institution because of one person, Marcy Riehm! She was the banker that opened up my business account and because of her personal service and always being there for me, I will continue to keep this bank for not only myself, but for my personal accounts and my kids accounts as they get ready for their own banking. Customer service is dwindling everywhere nowadays, but Marcy is the shinning example of what customer service should be, and where it needs to be again in the vast majority of business. As a credit union they are ok... not horrible, not great. From a technology standpoint they are about 2 decades behind everyone else. Their website loan payment is an abomination. in 2024 they rolled out a new website and mobile app, and it's even worse than the original. Nothing works right, the mobile app is just as bad. I literally cannot pay my loan payment without calling them and waiting on hold for ~45 min. read more

I have been banking with CalCoast for more than a decade and never had over draft or any bounce checks. Every month for two years my husband and I deposits business checks at calcoast and every time they want to pur a hold on it assuming we are floating checks. This bank made us feel they think we are criminals. The supervisor of the bank did not approve the check to be available because she said we have access to the other bank and might write another check. Basically accused us of potentially floating checks! For a year we deposited over $350k from our business to this bank and still judge us for depositing this much. I will call their corporate to complain directly. We are closing our account because this bank never takes care of their members. read more

Last month I applied for a Home Equity loan {25K), a week later I got an email telling me to turn in the rest of the application in or else they would cancel my loan. Since I turned everything in, I sent an email telling them to cancel my loan. The next week I got an email saying my loan was being processed. Almost 2 weeks ago I got an email saying my loan was approved and someone from the loan dept. will contact me. I have sent to 2 emails asking for the status on my loan, which I still haven't heard nothing. I've had to use my credit card and savings to pay for some of the stuff I was going to use the loan for. i needed the money last month, not next month. All I wanted is an update when I can expect the money, but they can't even do that, so I guess I'll be using my credit card until I can get my loan. read more

The bank is full of very friendly staff , and they even have a really nice security guard. My issue is with the online mobile banking and app . I am Always locked out of the account. I have to go in to The branch in person to have it reset , I wrote down all the info and passwords and double checked with the girl who works there and when I try to log in again, I am Still locked out . . This has been a back and forth process for 8 months plus now. I have two other banks that I use and I have never encountered any issues like this. I just spoke to a representative by the name of Alicia who was extremely rude on the phone. She kept cutting me off and implying that I was at fault for not properly inputting my bank account number. I informed her that I only have the check that was given to me by Cal Coast and that's what I've been using to pay my bills. She apparently didn't understand so she was trying to have me go to the actual branch. Instead, I escalated this issue to the manager by the name of Letty over the phone. She was nice in the beginning but she also didn't understand what my problem was also implying that I may have used the account incorrectly or did not input the account number correctly. I am not stupid I know how to input banking account numbers. I've been paying via mobile banking for a long time and both of them implying that I did not do it correctly is just plain insulting and rude. If you want to have a nice banking experience with extremely high quality of customer service don't bank here! They are very rude! read more

I've been with this credit union since it was Santel, in San Diego. Although in the past I have had a couple of issues with the couple of changes that the CU has been through (particularly when it was First Future), I have stayed with them because it has always seemed easier to keep the account. After one particularly disappointing incident in 1997, I was about to switch to a regular bank (Washington Mutual), but after just 3 days I was already frustrated, and decided to give FF another chance, and also wrote to one of the CU's officers to tell of the unfortunate situation. They apologized and cleared it up, and I was once again back to using them full time. When I moved to the Temecula area, they finally opened a branch here (as California Coast CU) and a couple more popped up as well. I started banking at the various branches depending on whether I was at work, or elsewhere, and they've always been great (the branch by Sam's Club and the branch by Chic-fil-A in Murrieta), but the staff at Menifee has been awesome. A couple of times I was not pleased with some of the issues that came up, but that's typical in almost any type of 'relationship' with a business. It's how they handle it and treat you after that tells the story. Recently, an issue came up and I was very frustrated, I have small anxiety issues and it was a particularly stressful day for me, but the woman up front that helped me was patient and incredibly nice to me. I wish I got her name, but the truth is most people there have been absolutely great. I'm glad I've stayed with this Credit Union throughout the years... What a great experience we had! I missed getting the gentlemen's name who helped us on 7/16 last in the afternoon. My dad just passed away and I took my mom (who is not tech savvy) to help her get logged onto the accounts, so we could see automatic withdrawals my dad had set up. The nice man gave us the user name, changed email to mine (since my mom doesn't have an email), changed phone number to my mom's, and printed her a new debit card on the spot! Now we are able to log into the account, cancel auto payments she no longer needs, figure out what bills have been paid, and have control over the account. Thank you so much! read more

Credit unions are supposed to be easier to deal with than banks. That hasn't been the case here. Trying to set up an account online. Figured that was better than doing the covid shuffle. Simple, right? Wrong. More than *two weeks* since I began the process, and the account is still not open. Today they told my wife they were emailing one more document to sign, then everything could get rolling. No email, except a disclosure of services and the all-important fees, and a survey. Have tried multiple times to set up online banking, only to be told access is blocked, "perhaps due to inactivity." The only inactivity has been on their end. You would think that in the age of covid, businesses would treat every new customer like gold. We're being treated more like dirt. The last time I opened an account at a bank, it was ready to go the same day. Setting up online access was a snap. CCCU seems so obsessed with retentive security measures that they forget their customers are (mostly, one would assume) law-abiding citizens. read more

This bank is difficult occasionally. In the 8 years I have been a member the recent has been the only time, but it's been extremely difficult. We have settled on a middle ground but there shouldn't have been any issues to start with. It's just ok. It's not free but you can use loyalty points which is just another thing I have to do. At first glance, this appears to be a fine credit union based in San Diego, California, focusing on the educational community. I am all for education, so kudos. However, I had several issues with the customer service and local branch that I would like to shed light on. I realize that part of my situation is unique but do not feel I was treated like a potential valued customer, so that speaks volumes. With more and more awareness today on socially responsible companies, I decided it is time to cut all ties with Wells Fargo and BBVA Compass, both of whom are related to the Dakota Pipeline, a project which will have disastrous outcomes for all humankind, particular the Sioux Indian Tribe! In Wells Fargo's case, they also have the fake bank account scandal dating back a few years, and I started divesting from them at that time. Anyhow, advice widely available on social media said to look for credit unions and lo and behold I find a new local branch for California Coast Credit Union with the only eligibility requirement being that one resides in either San Diego or Riverside County. They have a free checking account that includes mobile banking, mobile deposits, Bill pay, as well as non-fee ATM at any Allpoint or many other credit unions or credit union ATM. For example, near me are two grocery stores that I frequent, and I customers can use the ATM there at no charge not only to withdraw money but also to DEPOSIT checks, which I found very appetizing. Most credit unions don't invest in things like fracking or pipelines, but I had to be sure, especially since the so-called "community bank" BBVA Compass is in bed with the Dakota Pipeline, even though they have lovely language on their website about diversity and other social issues. Nothing is always as it appears. I looked at nearly every web page for the credit union but could not find detailed information about their investments or lending policies when it comes to environmental issues. So I left a note on their website but not hearing back from them, I called the toll-free number this week. I had called the toll-free number last week but was told "the wait time is 45 minutes," blah blah blah. (That right there should have been a sign to me and any consumer to "run as fast as you can" away from this business). Yesterday, I finally got a live human on their phone line and the person couldn't' answer my questions re their investments and the second rep was rude to me and flippantly said: "Well, it is your choice whether you open an account or not." She wasn't convincing in answering my questions and when I pressed her, she refused to transfer me to the corporate office. In fact, she said, "I don't think there is anyone there" and that got me thinking, "Great, who is running the place?" Eventually, I was transferred to a supervisor who assured me this credit union has no connection to fracking or oil pipelines. But wait, there's more! My unique position is I have one legal name, same as Eminem and the late Liberace. During the same phone call yesterday with various people when I inquired about their investments, I was assured "There will be no issues with opening an account in your one legal name," and the rude rep was perturbed when I kept saying, "Are you sure? I have had little 'glitches' with some banks, so I want to be sure before I drive to the branch, " and she said it would be okay, so long as I provide all the necessary documentation. This morning, I went to the Menifee branch, presented the legal documentation, told them what products I wanted but the bankers had no clue. I was told "All the supervisors are in a meeting, but we will email your ID to them and see what they say. I will call you later." She was pleasant with me, but her hands are tied by higher-ups, but she could have advocated for me more! The banker called me a few hours later and said "We cannot open an account for you because of your one legal name." She said the higher-ups told her one or more computer systems would not cooperate. As a consumer, I am calling "bullshit" on this credit union as it is my firm belief this is a copout. They just don't want to be bothered. Based on my 22 years of experience with one legal name, I am confident they could have opened the account with a First and Last Name to get it to clear Experian and then change the account to one legal name after going through all the security checks. In fact, I had a situation with dental credit and told the banker exactly what to put in the First Name field and Last Name field to match up with Experian. She checked with her supervisors, but noooooo, they didn't want to do it, they didn't want to do it. So the search continues for a socially conscious financial institution which also has adequate customer service. P.S. This location also has NO dedicated parking spots and is in a shopping center growing with eating establishments so good luck finding parking during prime time! read more

Saw the billboards in San Diego but lived in Menifee so was a relief to see they had a branch here. Marcy opened my accounts and everything was seamless and quick. Wonderful Staff there and inviting and clean lobby. It's a Credit Union so you have the network to conduct your transactions at any credit union. So glad they have all the services I need including free Mobile Check Deposits. I'm coming from Bank of America where they are nickel and diming people all the time and I'm tired of it. BTW these other reviews about this credit union seem just plain petty. I work for the retail service industry and these 1 Star reviews don't reflect the real views of the bank. I started a small loan that was supposed to take 14 business days, and after three and a half months I just now closed my account because I still hadn't finished that loan process. they kept losing paperwork that I had to keep resending them and even asking for paperwork that doesn't exist. it seemed to me that they don't know what they're doing and they're willing to let things just sit around on their desk forever. if you're looking for a new credit union or a new bank go somewhere else. they costed me a lot of time money an effort read more

Terrible bank! They are making money off of Covid-19. They turned off people's auto pay on loans and acted like they are helping in the name of Covid by not taking monthly payments. But instead of freezing the loan like they should have they were cleverly adding deferred interest so they will make even more money off the loan. Clever way to rip off your customers cal coast. Very efficient in car loans. But don't even think of a home loan or refinance here. I tried back in Sept. 2019 and it was a disaster. It was like trying to get approval with the Keystone Cops running the dept. 2-3 weeks to apply your application, 4-8 weeks for processing and another week or two for approval and funding. I never got that far as there were numerous errors on my application from inept Processors. The Processor was a transfer from another dept and knew nothing about home loans. I finally asked and did receive another Processor but by that time there were some many errors I gave up. read more

I was in the branch with friends and family to open a account with California Coast. I realized that I had forgotten my password to my account. So while dealing with buisness for over four hours in the branch I thought that it would be ok to have them help me reset it. Juan was great, his Customer Service was Superb. He was extremely busy so I figured that the manager of the branch, Melissa would have no problem helping me. I asked, she verbally directed me, not knowing if I owned a computer or not. She explained that it is very simple....Go online, click Forgot and follow the link. Wow, really. How did she know if I could read, operate a computer or any of the above. I honestly felt that I was not part of this establishment. I have never received worse service from any other branches before.
