The 2026 convention was held in the Orange County at the Hotel Fera (a Doubletree Hotel by Hilton) in the city of Orange which is near Anaheim and Disneyland. It was a 2 day event Sat and Sun. The admission was $20 per day on Sunday. It was a fairly slow Sunday, no crowds, which isn't a complaint but maybe even a compliment for comfort. The exhibit hall was spacious and filled with many dealers. A lot of high end comics and national dealers who you'd see at major comic cons nationwide. I did notice that there were not as many of those "treasure hunt" type "dollar bin" dealers present, but was a 2nd room more focused on the raw (ungraded) comics priced/valued under $10 By reputation this is still one of the best conventions for pure collector's comics, especially for rare and higher end comics. I also saw, an emerging (from the last time I attended) presence of Original Art dealers and merchandise. They also had a larger more formal exhibitor list that included more corporate companies and celebrity creators as guests. The show seemed to have lost part of its folksy casual vibe and atmosphere to that regard. There was a parking fee but an option for Free parking in a neighboring retail shopping complex. read more

In a world of over hyped and over crowded for profit pop culture events hocking celebrity photos and autographs, the California Comic Convention is a bit of a throwback to a simpler time. This is a show for comic book readers and collectors, not casual fans. Parking was free with a $10 admission. Held in the Community Center of Orange County's beautiful Yorba Linda, CCC utilized a patio and two meeting rooms. It's true that you could walk around the show in about 3 minutes but you've got comics of all eras and prices to flip through. I picked up a short stack of Avengers and Sgt. Fury for .50 a piece and there were plenty of sellers with boxes of half priced graphic novels. Many a buyer had their lists out as they skimmed through boxes looking to complete their collections. Comic guests Marv Wolfman and Thomas Yeates were on hand and the organizers did a great job of putting on a small scale show with a hot dog and taco guy outside, cheap snacks inside and hourly raffle prizes. This year coincided with a Frank & Son Sunday show only 15 minutes away so it was a great, double Con day only 45 minutes outside Los Angeles. read more

I have been to this show 2 or 3 times. If you are local to this area, I do recommend it. You'll likely run into Norm Rapmund and Rob Liefeld and other industry players who are there as much as fans and guests. It's not a big con and maybe it never will be, but it is a collectors' con and if you looking for something rare, there's a good chance you'll find it there. This is possibly the smallest convention I've ever attended that called itself such. Frank & Son's is bigger and they call themselves a collectibles show. California Comic Convention is contained in a small ballroom (if that's what it was) in an Orange County community center. For the most part it's a small dealer room with most of the exhibitors selling older comics, operating out of long boxes of back issues for a buck apiece and peddling mylar-encased collectibles out of the public's reach. While it's open 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m., it's a mere 2-minute walk around the room to see everything, and at $5 per person entry. This convention would be more appealing to fans who dig a wide variety of comics and take what they can get or are willing to spend hours treasuring hunts through long boxes, analyzing every issue in them. Dealers are always going back and forth about how much this miniature convention reminds them of the good ol' days when comics weren't so mainstream and conventions were attended by an assortment of socially-awkward shut-ins and hardcore fans. No one comes to this convention in costume. The guests they get (which tends to max out at two industry professionals) are not usually movie stars or artists that readily come to mind for casual comic readers. This isn't to say they're not worth coming to see and shaking hands with and geeking-out over meeting. If you're a new fan looking for a taste of Comic-Con, this would more give you a sampling of Comic-Con back in the '70s as opposed to current times. read more

The California Comic Convention in Yorba Linda is THE single best comic book focused show any Golden Age-Bronze Age collector could hope for with comic dealers from across the U.S. presenting their back-issue stock & CGC present and accepting submissions onsite makes it all the better. Anyone who is serious in chasing down rare or scare comics from the G.A. needs to add this show to their calendar; you really don't want to miss this show. It's perfectly timed between the last week of Football & the Superbowl, Terry O'Neill, owner of Terry's Comics, runs the show like a Champ, with raffles going on hourly. His connections with other comic dealers and extensive mail-order customer base insures a successful show for collectors & dealers alike. I have enjoyed this convention as a buyer & later as a seller ever since it first opened and I'm telling you just won't find a better show anywhere! read more

Extremely dissatisfied with both the show and those hosting it. Extremely small, no signage, left a handicapped man walking around the Westin hotel looking for the entrance for a half hour. When asked about hours and a discrepancy on the website the promoter was extremely rude, will never be attending again. read more

This was an awesome comic gathering. Parking was free and admissions is $10 with a raffle drawing every hour. They expanded into two ballrooms and the vendors are mainly local comic shop dealers and CGC was there that day too. Stan Lee was in town that day at Frank and Son collectible and I wanted to get something pen worthy for my first meeting with Stan Lee. I saw Terry's Comics had Amazing Fantasy #15 first appearance of Spiderman and eyed it for a good 10 minutes. I walked around and other vendors had X-Men #1 and Avengers #1 but no one else had Amazing Fantasy #15. After talking with Terry for about 30minutes, he agreed to sell it at $10,800. I thought about it and decided to go to Frank and Sons to find Amazing Fantasy #15, since it might be cheaper over there as the place is bigger. I drove 20mins from Yorba Linda to City of Industries and to my dismay, none of the vendors at Frank and Son collectibles sold anything expensive. If you're looking for modern comics with a large selection then Frank and Son Collectible is for you. But if you're looking for copper, bronze, or silver age comics that's in the thousands then Frank and Son Collectibles is not the place to be. I then drove 20mins back to Yorba Linda to purchase Amazing Fantasy #15 from Terry's Comics for $10,800. After that, I drove another 20mins back to Frank and Son again and waited 2 hours in line for Stan Lee to sign it. Then paid another $200 to send it into CGC to have it graded and signature authenticated. I got the Amazing Fantasy #15 back today 2/14/15, CGC 2.5 signed by Stan Lee that goes for around $12,000 on Ebay. Calcomiccon has grown in size and now has 2 ball rooms. They may be smaller than Frank and Son, but they have a more valuable selection. I asked one of the vendors at Frank and Son if he knew anyone here who would have Amazing Fantasy #15? The vendor whisper to me none of these folks here would have something of that caliber. You can try this guy at the end of aisle 200 he sells old stuff. I went there and he had X-Men #2 (not even a #1 in stock) and an old beat up Avengers #1 that's worth about $900. That's why I had to drove back to Calcomiccon to buy from Terry's Comics. Calcomicon saved me that day as I wanted something expensive for Stan Lee to sign and Calcomicon did the job. Stan Lee is 91 and doing less and less signings and this was my once in a lifetime opportunity to get something special for him to sign. Once again, I like both comic conventions, but Calcomiccon has a more valuable selection of modern, copper, bronze, and silver age comics located in two ball rooms as opposed to Frank and Son that's in a big warehouse but only has an average array of modern comics. read more

I went to the 1st one in 2007 and had a great time, although much smaller than todays pop culture conventions, this show is aimed more at the vintage collectors. It's an old school convention without all the new mainstream, anime, manga bs. I'm glad Terry provides this con every year and i'm glad to hear CGC attends now. My military service has kepts me away the past few years but i hope to get back there soon. read more
