California Fish Grill has a few good locations, but the Costa Mesa location beats them all! We were in the area looking for a nice seafood dinner, and figured to give this location a shot. We were glad we did! Parking is pretty easy next to the restaurant and this location is easy to get to from the highway. The Barramundi we ordered was perfectly done, crispy and juicy and well-seasoned. The shrimp skewers were literally perfect! The vegetables we ordered are flavorful and pair well with the rice and seasoned fish. The great things about California Fish grill include the variety of dishes, sides, and sauces at a great value for the price. Above that the cooks here are exceptional, and the service is outstanding. We intend to make this CFG location a new "regular" spot for seafood! read more

I've been to several California Fish Grills, but not to this location. I ordered the everything protein bowl for the first time because it has 39 grams of protein. It had a bit of salmon, white fish, shrimp and grilled chicken as the protein and came with white rice, hummus, couscous and a few greens and it was delicious and very tasty. Service was great and you can either order your food at the counter through a kiosk or a staff member will take your order. There is a lot of seating available as well as a small section for outdoor seating. Casual dining located at the end of a strip mall with a private parking lot. read more

First of walking in the people working are so sweet and welcoming! The woman working the front helped us and answered any questions we had! They brought our food to us and even brought us over some green sauce and red sauce! The food was exceptional! My tilapia grilled plate was everything! The fish was cooked perfectly! The cashiers were sweet, and parking was easy. No trash cans in sight, which was surprising. Tables could've been wiped down better, but nothing major. I grabbed a fish taco before heading to the airport--looked heavy on the crema, but it was perfectly balanced with the salsa and pickled onions. The fry on the fish was spot-on. Other locations can go overboard, but this one nailed it. I dined around 2pm on a slow Thursday, which was nice. Based on the taco alone, I'm excited to try more--especially their Taco Tuesday lineup. read more

I came in today for lunch around 1:30 p.m. Even though it was quite busy, I was greeted as soon as I walked in, which always makes me feel welcome. I was having trouble with the kiosk, and the cashier was kind enough to help me. I ordered the giant shrimp plate it was delicious and definitely a must try. I live down the street and was excited to try this place last year when they opened up. Once I tried the food I was hooked and I come here once a week for my fix. My favorites are: (the seasonal) Miso Salmon Plate, Dynamite Shrimp Bowl, Sockeye Salmon Plate and Mediterranean Chicken Wrap. I wish they had more wild caught fish on the menu. Right now the only wild caught fish is the Sockeye Salmon and it's a couple dollars more expensive than the other farm raised salmons (which I am okay with). The service here is always top notch and like the friendliest and nicest people work here. Even though you order on a kiosk when you come in (cashless) they always ask if you have questions or need help. They offer you a water cup while you're waiting for your to go orders. I'm not sure who trained these staff members, but give yourselves a pat on the back for the great job! I'd also like to say that all my 16+ orders have been 100% correct which is great. I'm not typically a repeat dining offender, but I can't seem to stay away from California Fish Grill. This is my go-to chain for when I'm in the mood for a healthy bite to eat. So far I've tried the chicken wrap and the salmon tacos. Both are light, yet filling. Both come with a side of fries, which are perfectly crispy. I also love that CA Fish Grill offers kombucha. Synergy is one of my favorite kombucha brands, so it's great to have this an option for an easy grab-and-go with dinner. I've yet to try their salads or sandwiches, but both will most definitely be included in a future order. My husband and I decided to stop at California Fish Grill on the way home from work, what a great decision!! From the time we stepped in the door, the staff were ready to help answer any questions we had about the menu and our order choices. Brenda M. helped us decide on two different wild-caught fish dishes. I ordered the wild rockfish with Caesar salad and Brussels sprouts. My husband ordered the wild Ahi with Caesar Salad and sweet potato fries. Both fish were cooked perfectly with the garlic butter option. Even the sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly, light and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, not limp and greasy. Being gluten/grain free, I was pleasantly surprised to see CFG serving Stubborn soda, made without high fructose corn syrup, alongside the standard Pepsi products and two different iced teas. They offer both inside and outside (with heaters) seating, and plenty of close parking. We will definitely be back. read more

Can't believe that I slept on California Fish grill. They've been around for decades but I only just tried it recently per the recommendation of my friend. I tended to avoid California Fish Grill because I wasn't sure how much the meals cost and if there were ever enough in variety to choose from. CFG is extremely affordable and this location caters to those looking for a more casual setting to dine in or order to-go. On average, the plates cost about $15 per person and it's portions are large in value. I could see myself eating dinner and lunch here often. The kiosks at the front make it useful to order your food and browse through selections at your convenience. The soda fountain is accessible for refills. My boyfriend and I ate here two nights and row and tried various entres that did not disappoint. PS, you can NEVER go wrong with classic fish and ships. Also, you will never find a sea bass or mahi mahi entree at such a good quality and price anywhere else. read more
