I happened upon this locksmith looking to make a copy of a key for a new roll-up garage door. I previously tried a reputable locksmith in Glendale, who told me that I needed to know the manufacturer of the lock in order to accomplish this. (The new door was made out of the country and doesn't have a manufacturer's name.) Frank is friendly and honest. He was referred to me by Uneek Car Alarm. I called him during the week to ask him how much it would cost to get an extra remote for my 2013 Prius. He gave me a good price but I decided to buy the remote on my own from eBay to save a little more. I asked if he can still program the remote if I bought it online and he replied "yes, I can. but keep in mind not everything you buy on line works and we still have to charge you the programming fee whether it works or not." This shows that he will help regardless of what you prefer to do and not try to cheat you. I called him today and ask if I could stop by in 30 minutes and he gladly accepted. He reprogrammed my old and new remotes because he thought it would be a good idea to remove the other remote that was missing. He's been here since the 80's and provides excellent customer service. My wife went to Frank to replace some lost car keys, and they didn't work because they didn't have the necessary chip. When she called Frank, he tried to blame the dealership that gave us the key number, claiming they must have gotten the number wrong. Frank knows very well that a chip is required for a car key to work, even claiming to have invested thousands in chip technology. When my wife went to him for a refund, he got defensive and would not say anything other than "It's not my fault." She said she would be happy with a half refund, but: "It's not my fault." It kind of reminds me of one of my fourth graders, explaining why they don't have their homework. Never do business with someone whose go-to motto is,"It's not my fault." read more

They did a little bit of internet research on the trunk company, then set out to make a new key for the trunk lock. My 1988 firebird ignition key fixed. My GM key was taking a long time to be recognized so I was unable to start my car. It would take sometimes 20 minutes of giggling before I could start it. Finally got it started and drove it to California Lock & Safe a local key maker on York. Frank aka Brad Pitt is a miracle worker. He listened to how I started the car and took into account the different maneuvers we had to do to make the key register. He was able to make a key that now is recognized every time you put it in the ignition. Local business. Awesome! read more

The person I spoke to at California Lock and Safe was rude right from the start. Don't bother with this place.

After I bought a cheap used car, I found that the car key would not open the passenger door or the trunk lid without a whole lot of fussing around with it. This guy cut a new key for me which took him about 45 minutes because there was a lot of trial & error involved. The key now works perfectly for every lock..He charged me only $20 to make the new key and $2 for a duplicate. What a deal! Very nice guy too. ------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE May, 6, 2010 -- This the place to go if you need a transponder key (car key with a chip in it) duplicated. It's much, much less than the dealership charges. Regular car keys without a chip are $2 here and common household keys are only $1 for a duplicate. I also had them come out to my house once for an emergency. He arrived in 10 minutes, did the job and charged just $45. That's less than almost anyone charges for a service call. read more
