I really wanted to like this place. They're super close by and setting up my reservation was a smooth process. Brenda was very responsive, I had an itemized invoice with pickup/drop off info included on it. They even accommodated me when I needed to add 10 additional chairs at the very last second due to unexpected guests to our baby shower. My issue is with the product itself. I don't expect rental equipment to be without blemish but these were BAD. All the tables looked like they came out of a dumpster. Of course, rental tables typically get covered but the surfaces were so uneven from all the scores/indentations I wouldn't trust placing any glassware on them. The chairs were slightly better but still incredibly scuffed and unsightly. Had this been my first time renting party equipment I may have assumed it was normal to get a product in such dismal condition, but it's not. I'm here to tell you folks there are WAY better options out there. If you are attempting to host an event that's even remotely upscale DO NOT GO HERE! Shop around and keep in mind that most inexpensive is not always the best. I recommend 3 Little Birds out of Glendale, I rented from them for my wedding and it was a great experience. read more

Wasn't surprised reading the reviews that other customers had an unpleasant experience with a rude manager. We picked up rentals over the weekend which was a pleasant experience dealing with the front desk woman. When it came to returning however, a rude manager was unwilling to offer options for a pickup and was continually speaking over and cutting off my pregnant wife. Clearly refusing to pickup rentals to incur another days rental fee. Our situation was clearly explained about lacking a vehicle to drop off and that we would like to schedule a pickup, which the manager said was impossible, even suggested my pregnant wife to rent a truck and drop off tables and chairs herself. 10 minutes later I call back to speak to said manager, who now is missing and unable to speak with a man on the phone the same way. Needless to say the front desk woman scheduled a pickup 45 minutes later. The lack of respect/ professionalism for women customers seems to be a trend in these reviews. I used California Party Rentals for a summer pool party. Since it was hot as blazes out I rented a large tent to provide some additional relief from the sun for my guests. I had a perfectly enjoyable experience with this vendor. The owner is a little abrasive. I booked my event over the phone and was emailed the contract promptly. I noticed that the date was wrong on the contract and sent an email requesting that it be corrected. The owner replied that the date was correct in his books. WTH!? I called and spoke with the extremely pleasant woman who originally took my information and she sent me a corrected contract. Fast forward 6 weeks later to my party. The delivery crew arrived on time, they were pleasant, quick and professional for the set up and pick up. The tent, table and chairs were set the day before the party and picked the following Monday. I really appreciated the level of communication from the company. They called to let me know they were on their way so I wasn't just sitting around wondering if they'd show up on time. They don't have a huge on line selection but they have more things in the store. I'd recommend checking them out. I have rented chairs for various events from several companies in the Pasadena area over the years. This company is awful. When calling in to let them know I would be returning the rented chairs a day late due to being stuck out of town longer than expected, their employees were extremely rude to me. One of their managers, Brenda, hung up on me and one of the owners Danny, was beyond rude to me. When kindness should be shown towards all customers, I was left feeling extremely upset due to the way strangers spoke to me over the phone. Give your business to Town & Country Party rentals, all of their staff is always kind and gracious and extremely understanding if you are going to be a day late returning rented product as they take the time to listen to their customers, seeking to understand the reason behind the late return. They run their business with kindness and humanity first versus treated their customers horribly as California Party Rentals does. I hosted a backyard party earlier this month and was given very high recommendations to California Party Rentals. Needless to say, I had high expectations but it is obvious that my one star shares my disappointment. Initially, everything was going swimmingly. The girl that assisted me in the store was very knowledgeable and it was easy to change the quantities and items around in the quote. They even gave me five complimentary table runners (totaling $30) due to the recommendation we received as a gesture of goodwill. That's when the goodwill ran out. I was advised that due to high business levels, they might have to deliver the rentals on Thursday instead of Friday (they do not deliver on weekends). That itself was fine - I completely understand if they need to balance their schedule. I told Brenda (another lady) that the gate to the backyard would be locked so that they would need to call me before the delivery so that I could ensure someone was available to unlock it for them. Brenda said that she would give me a call if they were going to delivery on Thursday instead of Friday. All of Thursday passes and there was no call, fine. Friday morning before 9:00am, I get a frantic call from my sister who says that as she was running out of the house to go to work, the delivery guys arrive with the rentals. I told her to just leave the gate unlocked (which is a security issue where we live) and let them in so she can just go to work. I was annoyed that I did not receive a call alerting me of the delivery but was just happy that it was all delivered. Later that day, my parents returned home to find that one of the pillars in the backyard was broken due to something that happened during the delivery. Note - my parents keep their house very tidy. There isn't a scratch, chip, or dent in any of the house or yard so it is very obvious that this broken pillar was due to the delivery of the rental furniture. Unfortunately, no one was home to supervise because WE WERE NOT PREPARED. I wrote an email sharing my disappointment with Brenda and sent her photos of the broken pillar. I also asked to file an insurance claim for the fix. She wrote me back telling me that she was personally disappointed in me for even bringing this up and that I should be happy that she gave me $30 worth of items for free. She did not once apologize for the broken pillar nor did she acknowledge that it was an inconvenience when the delivery guys didn't call before delivery. She also noted that she shared the photos of the broken pillar with her manager but it's been 12 days and I have not heard a single thing from the company in regards to my issues. I didn't ask for a refund nor do I expect one. I just expect some common courtesy and some decent, consistent customer service. Follow-up on the issue would be nice too. read more

Not a big selection of items for your next event but for the basics they are waay less expensive than say...Dolphins. Whoops! did i spill the beans and raise eyebrows?? Delivery charges vary depending on the location of drop off site from their store. I had my order delivered at 2pm on a Friday and picked up on a Monday. I paid $10 dollars less than other places on delivery alone. They did however miscalculate my chair count but came back in 20 minutes with the remaining order. Overall I'm satisfied with their service and saved about $30. Who doesn't love saving money?! read more

They were able to help us out and get everything we needed for my moms special day. We spoke to a young women named Kimberly. She actually listened and made it about my mom (the consumer). THEIR DELIVERY TRUCK DAMAGED THE HOUSE WHERE OUR WEDDING WAS HELD. AND THEY WOULD NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX THE DAMAGE UNTIL WE THREATENED LEGAL ACTION. I am not trying to be a hater, but I want to share our experience with CA party rentals. Actually, I wrote the yelp review for them years ago (6/2008) because that's when we rented from them, but I see the review is "missing". This is not going to be pretty, but let me sum up what happened during our WEDDING rental in 6/2008: - The receptionist and manager were friendly and helpful, UNTIL THEIR STUFF WENT WRONG. - We ordered table cloths, the kind with holes ini them, because we also rented table umbrellas since the wedding was happening in early June. However, when we began setting up the tables and tablecloths, the tablecloths had NO holes in them like they were supposed to. We repeatedly tried to contact them on Friday evening and Sat morning (our wedding was Sat mid-morning), but our calls went un-answered. - Finally, we decided to cut the holes in the table cloths ourselves in order to fit in the umbrellas. We noticed that many of the table cloths ALREADY HAD HOLES cut in them, so we suspect this problem has happened before and people did the same thing we did (cut holes in them because there were none that were supposed to be there). The receptionist called us back on Saturday night and told us she would charge us extra for the damages incurred to the table cloths. We told her that many holes had ALREADY BEEN CUT, probably for the same reason as ours. In the end, we did not incur further charges. - The worst thing happened during pick-up the following Monday morning. THEY DAMAGED THE HOUSE THE WEDDING WAS HELD AT. After they picked up the items, as the truck was leaving the driveway, it struck a beam on the side of the house that held up part of the roof and some roof tiles. The damage was significant, the wooden beam became detached from the rest of the house, and cracked. I wish I could post pictures on yelp. - The truck driver apologized and referred us to his manager. - We quickly contacted CA party rentals, but basically got the run-around. It was to the point that the receptionist would lie about the manager not being present to take our calls. When we talked with him (in person), he would not take responsibility, kept saying that it should fall under the homeowner's insurance to fix the damages, and would not acknowledge any mistake being made. Our telephone conversations became heated and they even hung-up on us several times when we tried to get the damage fixed. - I don't know why they were so defensive about this issue when it was obviously their responsibility and we obviously would not just stop and go away. - In the end, after many rude, heated telephone conversations and back-and-forth and round and round, they utilized their own company insurance to pay for the damages. We insisted on using our own contractors (which they finally agreed to), the bill came to about $1800, the repairs were completed and looked like nothing happend, and CA party rentals paid the entire amount. - Had the delivery truck not damaged the property, we would have rated them maybe 3 stars, since we still had difficulty contacting them regarding the wrong table cloths. But after all the rude treatment we experienced, their lack of responsibility for their mistakes, and the poor treatment we received (who gets hung up on by their wedding vendors??) by BOTH the manager and the receptionist (I forgot her name, something like Daphne?), I would rate them as ZERO STARS. - Basically - buyer beware. It could've been so much better, even if the damage occurred, but these managers handled their mistake in a way that left such a bad taste in our mouths. Buyers beware. read more

I was happy with the service that I received from CA Party Rentals until we began setting up the chairs for our indoor/outdoor event at our home. I had originally asked for "bone" chairs but changed to white fan-backed to make the event a little nicer (a lot more expensive per chair) and we decided on white tablecloths.. We also rented an outdoor heater and three 60" round tables. CPR did deliver all of the equipment when they said they would. The delivery man showed my husband how to light the heater and how to adjust the thermostate. I was not at home when these things were happening. When I arrived home and began setting up the chairs, I was appalled at the condition of the chairs. They were dirty and horribly scratched. I did not have the time frame to have them deliver new and better chairs, we just swallowed and used them anyway. The chairs looked "bone" compared to the tableclothes! When the chairs, heater, and tables were picked up after our event, my husband told the men that he wasn't happy with the looks of the chairs and the condition they were in. The delivery man said he would make a note and the company would probably make an adjustment to our charges. It has been four days and we still haven't heard anything from them. I would give them more stars for their prompt service but cannot because of the condition of the chairs. Another thing that was upsetting was the 3% charge if you use a credit card. read more

I chose California Party Rentals for my wedding, and Brenda was friendly, easy to work with, and very accommodating. Their prices were the best around, beating out Arcadia Rentals and Classic Party Rentals. Drop-off was prompt and courteous, and they even picked up a day early (which could have been a problem if we hadn't been eager to return the house to its original state, but it worked out nicely). Do not rent from this place! they are the most unprofessional business we have ever dealt with! Shame on you california party rentals for making my daughter's life stressful during an already stressful time! this company does not give a shit about good customer service or professionalism. They do not give a shit about your business! My daughter put down a deposit with them and she decided to change to another rental company. No where does it stated anywhere on their paperwork about cancellation fees. At one point one of the workers told my daughter she would be mailing her a full refund but when we got the check it was short! When we called them about it they totally gave us the runaround and would not reply back to our numerous emails. After our last email we told them we would contact the City of Monrovia and tell them about our horrible service and to stop recommending them and would contact the Better Business Bureau to file a formal complaint. Their reply was, "Have a nice wedding." We did not leave them in a bind. We contacted them two months prior to my daughter's wedding date. I can understand a penalty if the wedding was one or two weeks out. FYI~~~~~ My post has been deleted so I am re-posting, how rude! We rented tables, chairs, and a dance floor from California Party Rentals for my wedding reception. I will first off say that the person in charge and the receptionist are very sweet and flexible. The pricing was ok. We were more disappointed with the delivery guys and the condition of the tables and chairs. I'm not mean and I truly wanted to give you guys more stars, but when we saw the condition of most of the tables, a lot of them were damaged all around the ends where people lean. And we ordered 15 tables that's a lot to have been ruined. Thank goodness we had cloth tablecloths because if it were to have been plastic they would have been snagged and ripped. Then the chairs, oh my. When we went into the showroom the sample of chairs looked great so I was like yes I want these ones and mind you I didn't get the most expensive chair, but I'm happy I didn't because I probably would have been disappointed. We ordered around 140 chairs and so many of them looked dirty, cracked, and the padded seat was ripped. It was an outdoor wedding so I had no intention of putting seat covers. so we had to go through each chair and put the bad ones aside to not be used, a waste of money!!! Last but not least the dance floor. My biggest complaint is the workers forgot a piece and left the floor as is and were not coming back. However, kudos the owner did get it there later and fixed it up. When I am spending over $650+ on rentals I expect the stuff to be well kept and arrive on time with everything. Disappointed in the customer service I received. I was scrambling for a new vendor since my current vendor had to cancel last minute, when I reach out to California Party. I was happy that they were able to device my area. I was quoted a price over the phone, but when I received my email confirmation, it was more expensive. AVOID california party rental in arcadia! my experience with them has been subpar to say the least. the company delivered my chairs almost 1hr late (keep in mind we had a time restriction), while the owner refused to admit how late his guys were. things never go exactly as planned especially regarding weddings, but when the owner is rude to you on the phone, insist his guys were only 25mins late, and is giving you the run around regarding a promised refund, it's best to not do business with them. do not be fooled by their cheaper prices. the owner says there's no tax, but they charge a waiver fee. who charges a fee to waive taxes? all in all, avoid them for any big event especially a wedding! hopefully this helps, so you don't have to experience what i did = ) read more

Save yourself the headache because as Danny the manager said to me "No one asked for you to call us -- we don't want your business". Doesn't that say it all? Most of these places have the same equipment i.e. tables, chairs, canopies etc. What you are really looking for is a reasonable and friendly company to deal with so as not to make your event any more stressful. The above missive came when I explained that I wasn't going to wait around all day for the tables and chairs to be picked up so I'd leave work early and they could get them in the afternoon. This was especially true since they were over two hours late delivering the equipment which meant a full day wasted already. He couldn't have been less adept at customer relations.
