I'd say this is an average mall restaurant you're expecting - not amazing, but not horrible either. Our service was great and our food came out quick, so that is definitely a plus!! The complimentary table bread was definitely on the hard side. The inside was soft, but the super hard exterior really ruined it. We shared the fried dumplings as an app, which were good. The sauce made them overly soggy and we wished they were warmer when served to us. Great flavor though. We did appreciate our server letting us know we could do half + half of any pizza! We chose the Burnt Ends BBQ pizza (loooove BBQ sauce on a pizza!!!!) and half of the Spicy Chipotle Chicken. We thought they were okay, crust was perfect though. California Pizza Kitchen is usually a reliable go-to when you want something casual with lots of options for both adults and kids. We went for lunch, and the restaurant was not very busy, which made the service delays more noticeable. From start to finish, the meal took about an hour and a half, which felt long considering the order was just one adult soup-and-salad combo and a kids' meal. That said, the food itself was good for the price. Everything came out fresh and tasted the way you'd expect from CPK and portion sizes are reasonable. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly, but service really impacts the overall experience. For me, service is at least 50% of the reason I return to a restaurant, and on this visit it fell short. I noticed the tables with adults were getting more attentive service than tables with children, I'm not sure why that was the case. I had to flag my server down for it to go box and check. Overall, CPK still earns four stars for food quality and consistency, but improved speed and attentiveness would make a big difference. The lunch deal!!!! Cannot beat it!!! I love that they even have gluten free options! Gluten free (cauliflower crust) pizza was amazing. So hard to find good tasting crusts. The lunch deal is such a steal. I can't believe I just found out about this! Located in International mall, there is a few entrances, one entrance being outside accessible from the parking lot. This is probably the second time I have been at this location and the pizza is always amazing. We had a variety of different flavors. We started off with guacamole and chips. The guacamole was more like just avocado as the chucks were huge and was not really mashed up but it had good flavor and we could not stop eating it. I had the carne asada pizza and it was so flavorful and the steak was moist and soft. I tried some of my daughter's pizza which was the carnitas pizza and it was amazing as well. Yesterday, my mother daughter and I were going to eat at this location as it is a favorite of my daughters. After reviewing the menu, my daughter asked to look at the kids menu. She is 13, but 5"11 so she looks older. The waitress brought the menu over and as she handed it to her she stated she could not order from the menu. I asked why even bring it, and she states to color if she wanted. Mind you, she had nothing to color with. This is the first time in history I walked out of a restaurant, paying for the untouched sprite that she had just received. In all honesty, she most likely would have ordered off of the regular menu, she just wanted to see the kids menu. At the Orlando location, less than 6 months ago she ordered off the kids menu with no issues. We ended up at a different restaurant, where she ordered from the kids menu with no issue. However, when I got my food it was just cold potatoes wedges... so I brought it home to heat it up. Not to mention, steak was overcooked. Okay the food was sooo good but the service was lacking. It took over 10 minutes for someone to even come over to our table but luckily we already knew what we wanted and ordered everything at once. Upgraded a star since my last review 6 months ago. We do actually really enjoy coming here and the food is good. My con this time around which I've experienced before is the hostess staff. They are just not welcoming at all. I always put our name in on the waitlist prior to arrival and when we get there it's like they don't even want to hear that you're on the waitlist. They completely ignore me each time. This visit we tried the dumplings which were beer tasty. Our pizzas are always great. Love that they have GF and cauliflower crust available. They also now offer the $8 take home pizzas that you can order while you dine. I absolutely love their love passionfruit mango tea. I'm always getting 3rd wheeled by the wide and daughter to have food with them at places they want to go to. But, I do have to say I like this place. It's located in the international Plaza Mall so there is ample parking and lots of other places to shop at if there is a wait. Walking in the staff is quick and polite to seat you. Even I'd there is a wait, they are organized and keep things moving. The setup is modern and open air and is a nice place to just hang out and chat while you dine. I'm a big jambalaya guy and they do have a jambalaya dish, but it's with noodles instead of rice. That's a little disappointing; but it still tastes pretty good. Obviously, they are know foe their pizzas, hence their name. You can get gluten free a la cauliflower crust pizza, which is a nice option to have and it doesn't really taste amy different from regular crust. Now we started off with drinks and then ordered food immediately after we got everyone settled, the food came out in order the kids got there's first and then our pizzas were out well my sister had to get remade because they forgot to not put a topping on, my Sicilian pizza was very crispy burnt on the edges and the bottom, the bbq chicken pizza was burnt of the edges but the bottom still had some flex so it was still yummy! I didn't want to bother about my order so I did end up just eating it. The manager came over with my sisters pizza and apologized about the wait but looked over at my pizza and said did you order it well done? Long time customer here. While I enjoy the pizzas at CPK that are gluten free and all the precautions they take in ensuring there is no gluten cross contamination I must say tonights visit was sub par. We have ordered online many times in the past even during the pandemic. Online ordering is usually simple and easy as well as the pick up. Tonight their website was showing all gluten free pizzas as unavailable no matter which one you chose for this location. As a result, we had to call the restaurant to place the order. After having to wait on the phone for 10 to 15 minutes we had someone on the phone and we placed our order for 3 gluten free pizzas. When we arrived to pick them up 35 minutes later they claimed they didn't have the order. So, they start struggling to make the pizzas and we had to wait inside (the whole point was to avoid eating inside! that's why we did take out). We had to wait an additional 15 to 20 minutes for the pizzas to be made and the manager did not comp the meal or even discount the meal given that the mistake was made by them. We verified that we called and placed the order and they just claimed they didn't have record of the order. This was absolutely unacceptable and terrible customer service! There are other places to get a better gluten free pizza in Tampa to be honest and they do and will provide better customer service at that. Tonight's order was 3 10 inch gluten free pizzas at 60.00$ which is already higher than it should be let's be honest. we will not be returning here again. read more

My girls love love love CPK. They used to sit at the counter by the pizza oven and chat up the pizza master. They have even made their own videos of the pizza making process. Then CPK became a takeout staple for us since March. The $5 make-it-yourself kids pizza may well be the best thing going in the COVID takeout world. So how could I not pick CPK as the very first restaurant experience since the arrival of COVID-19? Lots of things have changed. No sitting at the counter or the bar. Every other table in the restaurant is blocked off. Hand sanitizing is set up at the entrance. The menus are throwaways. The sanitized tables are identified (see photo). We asked for a table as far away from human beings as possible and the girls ran off to say hello to their FAVORITE pizza master before we sat down. We ordered our drinks immediately and then took a look at the menu. There are fewer options but the lunch duos are still there. It took a little longer than I liked for our drinks to arrive. The girls ordered their kids pizzas.. and I went with the salad and pizza combo. We kept our masks on until our drinks arrived... but most people took their masks off as they were sitting down at their tables. This did not make me happy. I was happy when our pizzas finally arrived. We had a little pizza-making snafu but the girls were thrilled with their pizzas. I went with the California veggie. I love veggies but found my pizza rather blah. Overall, huge props to CPK for the efforts to keep diners safe. And as always, the food is very consistent, well priced and very solid. Located inside international plaza, near the entrance of Nordstrom. They don't take reservations but call aheads are highly recommended. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait too long to be seated. Our server Rachel was awesome. Their complimentary warm sourdough with olive oil dipping oil was phenomenal! Bread is 100 times better when served warm. For entrees, we shared California Cobb salad and Carne Asada pizza. I dislike when restaurants use cheap lettuce for salads, especially when they charge $17 for it!?! Yes it has all the essentials of the Cobb salad but i was thoroughly annoyed. On the other hand, we enjoyed the Carne Asada pizza. The flavors of the pesto, Smokey peppers and steak made that pizza sing. Only complaint, they charged $1.50 extra for requesting thin crust, especially since there was no note about the price change on the menu. Overall, some hiccups. As regular customers of California Pizza Kitchen, we typically get quality food with good service. In contrast, this time the service was off. At the Tampa International Mall location, we were a party of seven, five adults and two kids. At 8:20 PM (the location closes at 10:00 PM), we were sat immediately with two kids menus and the other adult menus. They did not provide us crayons for the kids' menus. When I went up to the front at the host stand and I asked for crayons for the kids menus, the host gave me only one crayon and asked me to give it back. While looking over the menus, we saw an advertisement to sign up today for the rewards mobile app and receive an appetizer for free, but our server named Christian said that we had to wait 24 hours until we could utilize the free appetizer coupon stating it was for the next time we dine in. The advertisement seemed pretty false for saying that you could sign up today for a free appetizer. Our server Christian was slow to keep up with our table. For the party of seven people, we only received one loaf of bread. We ordered our drinks, but he took awhile to come back. He came back at 8:30 PM, to take our orders and he did not come back to our table until the food was delivered at 9:10 PM. My nephew who is a child ordered an adult menu item and when it was my turn, I ordered a kid's menu pasta (just in case my nephew doesn't like what he ordered). Christian stated that "the kids menu items are only for 10 year olds and younger." That rule seems more for adults who are not with children or large parties. Since my nephew had ordered an adult menu item and I order a kids menu item, you would think he would have the common sense to swap that for the rule. When the food was delivered, we asked for more bread and Christian said okay then he changed his answer saying they were out of bread for the evening. We had to ask for things we needed like the bread, refills, and togo boxes/cups. In comparison to if you were an attentive server, you would be proactive to the needs of your guests. The restaurant was not busy either. The time we were there it seemed our server only had two other tables less than four people at both. To close it out, he seemed bothered when we asked for togo boxes and cups. We had three regular boxes, a pizza box, and cups, but he did not give us a bag(s) for our food to go. We did not ask for a bag because he would have taken a long time to come again like he had done repetitively throughout the night. Overall, our server seemed bothered to serve our table. He still received a $26 tip on top of our bill from my mother regardless of his performance. We hope to see the other team members be more attentive to their tables than our server was this evening. read more
