I'm so disappointed in the service I have been provided over the last 6-8 months after being a customer since 1997 - therefore continued to listened to the whys and hoped it would improve. There used to be an awesome service guy but a new one started months ago. Since working from home I see when he would come and go or didn't come at all. Two months ago I noticed he was not vacuuming or sweeping the pool only skimming with the net. Never saw him test the water but only add chlorine. I complained several times but I think it was with an answering service. No calls back. I got one rude message that I needed to authorize cleaning of my filter - at the end of June - when they would have normally cleaned it in late April. I cleaned it the first week of May. Customer service has gone out the window - apparently long time loyal customers mean nothing! read more

The absolute biggest joke of a company I've ever had to deal with. I've tried to work with them for years. Absolutely no communication, they lost the key to my gate, never came to the house and never communicated when they were having issues getting inside (because they lost my key). So, I'm writing this review for my mom, as she doesn't have a Yelp account and hasn't had a need to review anything... until now. My mom has a pool. It's an awesome pool and is one of the main reasons she bought this house, more than half my life ago. We love it, our dogs love it, our friends and family love it. Pool = happy time. Her last pool service company, however? NOT happy time. They were hired around November of 2007 and were doing okay for about a month and then the "technician" stopped showing up regularly. When he did bother showing up, he'd consistently half-ass the job and as a result, the pool went from being a heavenly crystal blue to looking like the murky waters of the River Styx. Not only would he half-ass the job, he'd leave equipment laying around the yard, leave the electrical box open, forget to empty the basket, he'd rarely vacuum (and when he did, it was a poor job of it). One weekend, the pool was the color and nearly the consistency of key lime pie (see included picture). Due to it being winter, my mom let it slide and hoped for better results come Spring. She did call the company's owner a few times and was told that the technician was "a good kid" and acted like he didn't believe her that the tech wasn't showing up and that she should be grateful he shows up at all, saying that the technician was "like a son to [him]" making repeated excuses for the sloppy work and lack of presence. In April of 2008, the pool's pump needed to be replaced. The company said that they could do it, but ended up hiring a subcontractor for the job. The pump worked for almost exactly a year, completely freezing up in April of 2009. When my mom's current pool service (not the one being reviewed) checked out the situation, it was very clear that the pump was not a "new" pump, as she had been billed for by California Pool and Chemical Service. It was very clearly much older parts than a pump that had only been in use for a year (no matter how ignored the pool had been by California Pool and Chemical Service's sorry excuse for t technician) and all of the parts were warped. My mom had to pay out of pocket for a NEW new pump - and saved the parts from the OLD new pump, for posterity. After a summer of continually bad service from the tech (from California Pool and Chemical Service), he had not shown up for the first two weeks of September 2008. My mom had finally had enough and when he did decide to show up on the third week of September, she told him not to bother and that she was canceling service. She called the offices to cancel, but all she ever got was voicemail. She repeatedly called to try to reach someone in the office, and each time left messages stating that she no longer wanted service and gave all of the pertinent information (account number, name, etc.). The pool technician from California Pool and Chemical Service never showed up again, so she assumed that they had gotten her messages and canceled the services. WRONG. She received another bill in October... then November... then December... despite her calling every month to let them know that she'd called the cancel in September. The "bill" for February of 2009 even included extra charges for "Pool Conditioner" & "RX Booster System - Natural Clarifier" - WHAT A JOKE! How the hell are they putting chemicals into her pool if it's behind three separate gates, with locks that nobody from California Pool and Chemical Services has keys to... not to mention the large dogs between the final gate and the pool itself? Fast forward to this month, May 2009. My mom got a letter in the mail from the company, stating that if she doesn't pay them $1,152 within seven days, they would be reporting her to the various credit bureaus for non-payment of debt. WHAT DEBT? The bill had previously been paid in full for all services rendered (through September '08) and she hasn't had service since September of 2008. Why the hell should she pay them ANY money? She called the owner today to find out what the deal was and instead of asking for further details, he rudely dismissed her and said he didn't want to deal with it right now, to call his phone back and leave a voicemail and he'll deal with it on Monday. We're not holding our breath... we did enough of that when California Pool and Chemical Service allowed the pool to go to stinky swamp hell. Don't make the same mistake. Thank you for the bad customer service on the replaster and tile coping and the deck o seal plus all the cement work that you did. With in the frist month cement has cracks in it, also around some of coping /deck o seal big gaps from coping to the edge of cement filled in besides the deck o seal with home depot cement that cracked right away bad cover up work spoke with Paul the so called owner which he told me that was a normal occurrence for the cement and tried to sell me more on the cement work around there fill in work at the coping edge almost $8000 more for there crappy job. Gray was our salesperson the ex owner, but dealing with Paul is like non existent so much for their 10 year guarantee. read more

I chose new pebble tech, tile, coping and updated plumbing. Each crew that came to my home worked and conducted themselves in a professional manner. Gary always notified me on progress and scheduling for workers. I felt most comfortable going with Cal Pools because of Gary's knowledge, experience and honesty. We moved in 2 years ago and decide to pull the trigger and redo the pool. We decided to also go with Pebble-Tec for the surface. We are not sure as who is to blame here, but the problem is this. The pebble was contaminated with tiny shavings of metal. The shavings got mixed in to the pebbles. Over time the metal shavings rust, What do you get once they rust? Nice dime shaped rust colored stains. Gary's solution to this was to drain the pool grind them out.They did take care of the water bill for the 4 times we had to drain the pool but still. What you get once they grind the stains out? Nice white shapes with out any pebble. Still not a desirable look or the the solution. We recently saw 2 new rust marks pop up and its been 2 years since the pool was surfaced. We really have tried to be understanding. Now that the drought is here we feel super guilty draining the pool to fix it or re surface. Really what Gary should of done then and even now is re-do the entire surface and make sure that it is not contaminated!!! Lack of true costumer service is the main problem here. Passing the problem on to Pebble Tec and not even trying to resolve it! Gary and his company dropped the ball. Weekly pool service is adequate but nor suburb. Our pool guy is cool but I'm sure there are better services out there where you don't have to tell them their job or ask them to do what would seem like a no brainer. Dirt in pool, go get the vacuum and vacuum it out. Attention to details is all I ask. read more

I call him and he said the owner was on vacation and they were not going to provide us with an estimate. I dont know why. I)'m giving California pool service a 1 star because I can't give it a 0. I haven't even been with this place for one month and I fired them. They started off bad by telling me they where going to be at my house from 8-10 and at 11 o'clock nothing so I decided to call and find out what happened. They tell me the pool guy got stuck at a job, I asked why did my anyone bother to call me. She apologized and said she would send someone else. I decided to give them a chance because they where able to clean my pool on Fridays. The guy that shows up looks super young around 20 years old. He tells me he's been cleaning pool for 2 years. So I decided to give him a chance. He cleans my pool it about 5 minutes and I'm think WTH that was way to fast. the second time he came he did a quick job again but after he left the water level in the pool looked lower and the the fountain pressure was off. I called the company with my concerns they told me the can send someone out to check but I would be charged extra. When I told them it doesn't make sense that I started having these problems right after their pool guy left she changed her mind and said she would send someone out at no charge. Once again they don't show up at the time they told me so I had to call then again. They tell me noting is wrong with my pool and that I should refill my pool every so often. I say to the guy the young guy that cleaned my pool didn't tell me any of this even after I asked if there's anything I should do or not do because I've never had a pool before. He said he had a lot of experience, yea right! The last straw they didn't show last week and didn't bother to call so I fired them STAY AWAY !!!! read more

We are so disappointed in this company. We paid them, upfront, for a remodel. We were happy in the beginning but after a few months the color of the plaster (blue) changed colors (now gray) We have tried to get them to come out to check it out. They did say they needed to research the problem and would get back to us. We are still waiting after numerous calls (over a months time) We should have known they didn't believe in their own product since they had us sign a waiver of any change of discoloration. Do not do business with this company, you will be disappointed and out a lot of money and be ignored. they are obviously hoping we will go away! Bad owner ethics! Horrible, HORRIBLE customer service. I received my bill, called to pay it, to find out they blindly charged me $120 for "annual water softener" when I DID NOT approve or know anything about it. My bill statement shows one month pool service fee and nothing else. But apparently they "sent a letter stating they would be charging me." (Why is that not on my monthly statement?) No. No, I did NOT receive a letter. They blindly charged me and told me now i have to pay it, when in fact, i had to pay extra 6 months ago (when I started) for "annual water softener." It has not even been a year. I was talking to a woman who answered the phone and was trying to have her explain this to me, she was so rude and had an attitude the entire conversation. She would talk over me and not let me finish my sentence and when I told her how ridiculous that was to charge someone without their consent, she again stated "we sent a letter." I told her I want to cancel, she again, had an attitude and did not try to rectify to situation. (Apparently losing customers isn't a problem for them ‍) She was not helpful, nice or polite. This company (even according to other reviews) clearly needs to invest in some customer service classes. read more

I've been with California Pool for almost 18 years. And until this year I was very happy. But in the last 2 months their service has just diminished. My creepy crawly does not work, one which they installed, and to this day they have yet to fix it. I call on a daily basis, they send someone when someone is available and they all come make it work for 5 minutes, take video of it working and leave. Next day not working again. We had our pool remodeled by Calif pool and chemical about a year and a half ago. That turned out to be a disaster! We chose Gary because he showed up on time , seemed honest, brought samples for us to look at, which we did not know at the time that these samples were very bad quality materials. My husband and Gary hit it off right away, as they have a lot of the same interest (fishing) Gary always wanted to talk about anything but the pool. We were told the job would take 3 weeks, but it took 41/2 months. Gary said it was because of rain. We had a lot more sunny days than rainy days. There were many many sunny days that no one would show. In the 55 years we have had this pool we never had a broken tile or coping. In less then 6 months there is a broken tile and the coping is falling apart. If you stand back from the pool it looks great, but get close and you see all kinds of problems. I got in the pool a few months after it was finished to clean the tile and found one broken tile that you can not see from outside the pool. We have told Gary about this and he has done nothing. When they started the job they dug a long ditch for the new gas line for the spa. After the gas line was in they did not fill in the ditch. Dirt and mud was everywhere. I ask them to fill it in but they kept saying tomorrow. Tomorrow never happen. They also had sand concert and other supplies delivered to our driveway by mistake that was not for our job. It was there for weeks. The concret bags broke open and spilled all over our paverd driveway and our stucco up the side of our house. They would not clean up the messes until we told them we would not make the next payment. They tried to clean the driveway but it would not all come out of the pavers. They left dirt piled up on the other side of our house so long that it stained the stucco and will not wash off. We have a very large yard and there is plenty of room to put their supplies and tools, yet they left stuff everywhere. We have a large upper deck where the pool is and a lower area where the kids swing set , toy box , kids table and chairs are. At first we told the kids not to play on the upper pool deck because of the mess and danger. Then they piled stuff in the kids play area. I found a razor blade on a pile of boxes they put under the kids swing set. After that the kids could not play in the back yard at all. I had a large flower garden that they completely destroyed. There was plenty of room for them to work and stay out of my garden. I found more razor blades wood, chunks of concrete , food and more in my garden. They would eat lunch in the yard and leave their leftover on the table. I would ask them to put the trash in the trash cans because the raccoons would come at night and make a mess with their trash all over the yard , they had to be told everyday. . We have a plain concret deck around the pool, and while spraying the pebble tech they set up tripods to hold up the sprayers, but they put nails in the decking to hold the tripod. When they pulled the nails they pulled small chunks of concrete and now we have about 20 holes in the decking. All Gary would say is he did not know why they did it that way. We had a salt water system put in, and we did not know why we were still having to add tons of chemicals to the pool. We found out they put a used system in that did not work. They did fix that problems. We have always taken care of our pool ourseleves and wanted to still take care of it ourselves, so 3 times we asked Gary what we had to do different than a chlorine pool. He would not answer us and would change the subject as he always did if there was any problem. He never fixed anything that was broken or replaced anything that went missing like our pool pole and sweep.our large loopers our hose and sprayer our new trash cans(I did get them back because I caught them loading them in their truck. Our neighbor was always mad at us because they would park in front of her driveway , I would ask them to move every day. We told Gary we would not make the final payment until they came clean up the huge mess they left our yard. Two guys came and did a half ass job and only picked up a few drink bottles and trash I had to tell them to get rid of the pile of dirt they left on the grass, which they kind of leveled off a bit. I had to finish cleaning and fixing all the things in my yard that they made a mess of. I could go on and on about all the problems we had but I am tired of writing We are so unhappy with Gary and Paul, and I would not tell anyone to use them. We have made many calls and waited for a very long time. Nothing is happening. If they ever call back and make things right I will write again and let you know. read more

We should have asked our neighbors because once they saw these guys, they came down and told us of the wreckage they made at their place. They subcontract to Digital Pool and Spa so you may as well call them anyway, The owner who claims that because he's Dutch, works on a handshake and a man's word is his honor. Really? If you are thinking about remodeling your pool, look no further. This company is absolutely the BEST!!! The owners, Gary and Paul are absolutely fabulous to work with. Before we moved forward with our pool remodel, Gary took us to a few of their previous projects. The work spoke for itself. These guys do a-m-a-z-ing work!! Once we saw how beautifully they constructed the previous pools we knew we were making the right choice. Plus their price was in-line with our budget. They are priced honestly and competitively. Our remodel took about 10 days to complete and let me just say, they accomplished everything that we asked for and more. They were super flexible with some last minute changes and add-ons that we asked for. The construction crew was always on time and stuck to the schedule that was promised. The entire crew was very hardworking, respectful, and did a great job of cleaning up every day after they were done. Since we did a complete remodel, there was a ton of debris and dust flying around but they swept up everything and rinsed down the concrete in our yard at the end of each day. We have (2) dogs so as soon as the crew was done for the day, we could let the dogs into the yard without a worry that they would hurt their paw on debris. I have been a customer of California Pool Service/ Jersey Station since July 2007. Over this period of time, I went through 3 of their pool technicians, from Alberto to Miguel, all of which provided weekly service. They have been reliable for over 10 years. 1) Their pool technicians use a leaf skimmer to gather the leaves and insects floating at the top. 2) They brush the pool walls towards the bottom drain and vacuums. 3) They check and empty the pool skimmer basket. 4) They check the ph of the water. 5) They add chemicals as needed. 6) If they cannot provide service bec. the gate is locked or for whatever reason, they leave me a note. 7) They notify me of anything out of the ordinary. This year, Miguel, my current pool man informed me that my pool filter was blowing white powder muddying the pool water. It was time to clean the vertical grid pool filter and I had the option of cleaning it my self to save money. They bill monthly and their price has remained fair and affordable. We had our 30plus year pool fixed up with aqua-blue pebbles and new thin tiles to fit around the sharp curves without the obvious cut tile look. Everything looks fantastic and we are so happy! Stay away from that company. They cleaned my filter and dumped the white stuff in the middle of my grass in the most visible location of my yard. Called and companied multiple times. They said they would send someone to clean up. Nobody has come to clean up yet. Also their billing is very confusing.
