I popped in hoping to just use a tanning bed for a little bit. The girls working the front counter were very nice. But it was so incredibly complicated with multiple sales pitches of different plans and various UVA/UVB deals and different price points and memberships and regulations and rules and waiver and policies and multi day deals that after 20 minutes of that I actually ran out of time and had to leave for an appt without even getting anything. Management is all over the place. The girls are so amazing and sweet but there is this one guy who works there who is incredibly unprofessional. I came in for a simple one-time spray tan, and the male manager clearly had no idea what he was doing. He couldn't answer basic questions, seemed confused about the process, and didn't provide any guidance at all. I use the spa services and really enjoy them. But the staff is shady bumping people who work there (who are in as customers) over the regular customers. If I could give ZERO stars, I would. I went the other night to tan prior to a vacation I am going on. The 2 girls at the front desk, combined, had the IQ of 6. I didn't have my phone on me so could not scan the QR code to fill out the intake form, and they were utterly baffled about what to do next. It was like watching rats being electrocuted when they had to try and find , and then print a paper form. All-in-all they never could produce one. I had no more time to waste, so I left. I won't ever be back. I called the number a bit later to complain and the lady that answered the phone was initially empathetic to the situation. She then tried to backtrack to say they don't offer paper forms at locations anymore. I called Fair Oaks and I called the Citrus Heights location and they absolutely offer paper forms. read more

This place has always been hit or miss for me. Constant turnover and overly rude employees since I joined 6 years ago. I have not been allowed to tan several times because I forgot my ID. I find this to be ridiculous especially when the employees know who you are. You can also just look up the info given to verify customers. The bigger problem is how rude they are when you tell them you don't have ID. It's the same thing with lotion. I don't use lotion, I don't like lotion and I get pressured about it almost every time I come in. I don't care about the supposed benefits, I simply don't want to buy or use it. I also don't want to be told what bed I should be using!! I came in last week to use cold plunge 2 different days and plunge was down. Today I come in and tell the girl up front I want to use cold plunge and tan. She said ok which one first. I say, I'll do cold plunge. She goes to Check on room and tells me the person in the plunge will be awhile so do you want to tan first. I say ok no problem. I go tan, then come out and I say to now a different girl up front I'm ready for cold plunge. She looked at me and says did you just use lotion? I said no I don't use lotion, why? She says well if you use lotion you're not allowed in plunge after. I said well that's news to me but I didn't use any. She pauses and then says, actually you're not allowed to use it if you have tanned first. It's like she simply didn't want me to use the plunge or why else would you go a step further? This is crazy though since both my GF and I have tanned many times first before the cold plunge? They of course had no answer for that but said let me call corporate??? Are you kidding? Any way corporate said no but they would give me a gift bag of lotion ‍ Showered before I came and didn't use lotion on a supposedly chemically cleaned bed by your staff but nope, you can't go in the cold plunge. What about coming in at the end of a 10 hour blue collar work shift? That's ok? Hmmmm!! If you want to make sure everyone is perfectly clean you should supply a shower before plunge entrance. So with that said, I'm now 0-3 this week on trying to use your cold plunge. read more

I've tried so many tanning salons, both single proprietor and chains, but only California Sun Spa gives me a quality tan, additional beds like the waterbed massage, and sound advice to get the safest indoor tanning experience. These people are the worst and I will never use them again. I knew this, because I had a bad experience before, but went ahead and used them again. I signed up on 1/2/23 and told them that I would only need the services for a month. I was told no problem and I would just need to submit my cancelation request by 1/20/23. This was done on 1/14/23, but then I was charged $90 for the month of February. When I emailed them and called, I was told I needed to be there for 30 days before I could cancel. I spoke to Omar at the Corporate office and all he did was argue with me. They have no desire to help the customer. California Sun always makes it difficult for the customer and never has a solution for the customer. They've refused to refund me and told me they couldn't refund me. read more

Versa Spray Tan Booth - If I were only rating this based on their sunless tanning bed, I would give 5 stars! They have a fantastic sunless tanning option. As a fair skinned, sun worshipper, I have spent years trying to find the best products. I decided to stop tanning booths in my early 20's and have literally tested numerous at home and salon sunless tanning options. I decided to give Cal Sun a Chance when I moved back to the area to save money. The air brush tanning in Sacramento has went up in prices and thought it wouldn't hurt to try the Cal Sun booth which is almost half the price of competitors. I was not disappointed! They use the Versa booths with their own special, natural product and it is just beautiful and sprays beautifully. I LOVE this product and it is a great value. As a fair skinned lady, I use the clear and let it develop to the shade I want before rinsing. The reason I am giving 3 stars is because of their products. I purchased their in-house at home spray tan bottle that you can use for touch ups and in between tans. It is some type of aerosol can. It was in my bathroom and some how leak or exploded and the tanning solution got all over my items. It ruined some items and it was a mess to clean up. When I called to ask for an exchange or refund, they wouldn't do it and didn't seem concerned that their product had this sort of issue. They have me $50 in spa credits, which I don't use and told me that the issue had never happened before. The refund would have only been $15-20 but for me it is the principle. If you have a bad product and it causes an issue for a customer, you communicate concern and you give a refund. I highly recommend skipping the purchase of any of their products simply because they don't stand by their products and if there is an issue, you will eat the cost. Additionally, when I went into the Roseville location to tan, the "manager" (I guess) was like talking to a robot. He seemed completely flat, emotionless with no concern to my inconvenience. This past weekend I spent $40 on 20 minutes of a bronze package to split into two sessions. I used 7 minutes of the 20, came back to day to use what was left & was told that's not how it works. That I would have to purchase another $15 worth to get another 7 minutes. I would have NEVER spent $40 on 7 minutes of tanning. The staff couldn't do anything for me but offer me "lotion packets" to make up for it. This place is a scam, inform your workers how to properly charge for packages in the future. This is one of my favorite locations. The girls are always so sweet. They are very knowledgeable on the products they sell and also about the tanning beds that they use. Each location is slightly different on the type of tanning beds they offer but the levels are all the same. I signed up for the spa membership which includes : Cook coon I are wellness pro, red light therapy, sunless tanning and the massage chair for : $69.99 per month. I love Cal Sun for their beds and services but recently just had to cancel my membership due to a HUGE breach in security. The employees (one in particular) talks very badly about the customers behind their backs and insults them. I put in a complaint about an employee, which was then turned around to be told to the employee I was complaining about and my name was given. Later had a closer friend work there only to tell me that she was talking badly about my family and husband. An employee whom I barely knew, whom I had previously complained about for her inappropriate conversation topics when she would walk me back to the room. I then followed up with corporate whom was very nice to me but I haven't still seen any of the money back from my account like I was promised...guess I'll have to sit on hold for another 45 min! Just know here the employees will not keep personal information confidential!!! Your name, complaints or accouNever setting foot back in there again! I am so beyond insulted by their immaturity *UPDATE* The woman that responded below my comment here is the woman who verified with me that the employee that harassed me, insulted my family, and also breached my security was not working at the Folsom location anymore. The following Saturday after our conversation which I believe was 2 to 3 days after our conversation... I had a coworker go into cal sun in Folsom to tan only to find that the worker that harassed me is still working there and the woman that commented below lied. I love California sun, recently I moved to Folsom so it's my first time at this location. It's a huge salon I like how they have 2 different stand up machines one for 10 mins and one for 12 mins. It's hard finding a location with more than one stand up. The beds appear to be well maintained and it's in a great location. Staff is friendly I would just suggest working on trying to check guests in quicker and coordinate with other employees on the clock so they can check others in if one staff member is busy. Not complaining though I didn't have to wait very long and it wasn't busy at all. I look forward to tanning here! read more

I tried calling the other day about a simple question in regards to my membership, and they have me on hold forever so I had to hang up! This is a tanning business! I've been a customer years ago since they were at their old location and this is how they treat long-time customers. Of course, I see here that someone is replying to Yelp reviews telling them to call 789-1034... yeah, well this time YOU call ME because I don't feel like being on hold forever! Stay far away! I Brought my daughter in this evening for spray tans. 2 young, newer employees were working. Both were completely clueless about pricing. They both were talking over each other and kept giving us conflicting info. They both literally contradicted every statement they made. I happily would have purchased unlimited spray tan memberships for both my daughter and I if I could have gotten clear info. I have been coming to California sun at Folsom for years and I definitely think it is the best location as well as the strongest crew! I have witnessed these girls getting constantly yelled at but they work so hard when it is so busy they never seem stressed and worried while they still take there time with each guest and not rush them.
