    Pollo Amigo Lunch

I will hear NO slander about Patrons Wexford. This place RIPS. There's nothing negative I can say about this place and I've been coming here since I was a kid. The ambiance? So fun! So colorful! It feels like a party even if it's empty. Love the patio too! The food? Best TexMex around. I always get the Pollo Amigo and it tastes like a dream. Amazing margaritas, amazing queso. Amazing place!!! Just go. It's awesome. It's not fine dining, but if you want to have a good night, go here.

The chips and salsa are pretty good. We had to ground beef tacos and shredded chicken tacos and are really good. Cheap quick lunch $7 for the three tacos. Shrimp chimichanga is pretty good too.

Service was amazing here!!!! I was seated immediately, brought chips before I even finished sitting down, and my order was taken quickly. Very wonderful and polite staff here! Place was clean and colorful. Got carnitas, which were very good. Will come back soon!!

I just can't recommend this restaurant. The interior is extremely outdated and rundown. Which put a bad impression in my mind before we got our food. The staff is friendly and attentive. We did have issues with my margarita coming without salt as I had asked. I also got the wrong meal. Had to wait for a new meal. Staff was apologetic The salsa and chips were delicious. Huge menu. The margaritas were full of mixer. The steak was grey & tough, could tell it was an extremely low quality cut/ source just by looking at it. There is a better local Mexican restaurant locally. I won't be returning here.

Very solid local Mexican place. There's indoor and outdoor seating that are both good atmosphere and good service. The meals are very good and the portions are not to take lightly. You will leave full everytime after a delicious meal. My only complaint is that you have to scan the QR code for the menu and there's not very good service there so that can get tedious. But overall my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Wexford area. It's good if you want to have a fun time with friend and margaritas or if you want to go out for a nice enjoyable meal.

Still love this place! Family of four. My son wanted tacos for his birthday so we ordered 12 off the a la carte menu, a chilli relleno, kids meal, and everything was awesome. Will say, if you do go the a la carte menu, which is dirt cheap, just please hook up your server with an outstanding tip. The bill will be significantly less, but it's the same amount of work as the regular menu and you are taking up a table that would have otherwise generated a much higher tab; they have families to feed too.

Came here for lunch on a weekday. Ordered their veggie quesadilla for lunch. No sides came with it. Total was a little under $12. What's hot - Menu variety. There's guacamole, quesadillas, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc... Veggie options and meat options. - Layout. There are booths for smaller parties and tables where you can spread out. One thing I didn't like about our booth was the dim lighting, though. - Quality. It's not bad, but it's not great. I've had better. Keep in mind I'm a Cali girl whose had good quality authentic Mexican food. On the upside, my veggie quesadilla had good chunks of veggies in it, including broccoli. One of my concerns was that they would give me little slivers of veggies. And there was a decent amount of cheese. However, the quesadillas weren't completely full of cheese because of the amount of fillings. What's not - Service. It's decent, but that's it. When we asked for recommendations, our waiter wasn't really able to give any. We specifically asked for spicy options, as well. That should narrow down the options, but it didn't for our waiter. Makes me wonder how familiar they are with their own menu. Additionally, once you finish eating and pay, they leave you alone and don't check in on you. I prefer and like it when restaurant staff check in on you after you pay. For me, that's the mark of good quality service. After all, it's natural to socialize in restaurants. There's always a good possibility we may need something after or order more. - Price. My quesadilla alone was a little under $12 and it didn't come with any sides. For the quality of my food, with the portions and the price, it doesn't seem worth it. Final Answer Willing to come back, but not a first choice. This place isn't bad, but it doesn't wow me and doesn't stand out.

This Mexican restaurant appears to have quite the mixed reviews, but based on my visit in December 2021, I am giving a rating of 5 stars, and I plan to return in the future. When my husband and I entered the restaurant, the seating hostess kindly greeted us and immediately walked us to a booth. Soon, our waiter arrived, and he took our order for drinks. He promptly brought out our drinks and took our orders for our appetizers and entrees. Throughout the meal, the waiter spoke nicely to us, calling my husband "friend" and me "lady," and he brought out drink refills without our having to ask. At the end of our meal, the waiter brought out an accurate bill and sincerely thanked us for coming. Here are my reviews for the foods: Chips and salsa - 5 stars - The chips and salsa were automatically brought out for free. They were fresh, and the salsa had a medium spiciness. Tableside guacamole - 5 stars - This guacamole was prepared freshly at the tableside. (I apologize to the employee for my looking at my phone a lot rather than looking at him.) The ingredients included avocados, cilantro, onions, lime juice, and seasonings. I appreciate that the employee remembered to leave out the tomatoes that my husband dislikes. My husband commented that the guacamole smelled the best ever, and the guacamole tasted excellent too. Chicken fajitas - 4.5 stars - My husband is difficult to impress, but he enjoyed this entree. The chicken strips were cooked thoroughly and were still juicy. Also included were onions, bell peppers, and a side plate of rice, refried beans, guacamole, and sour cream. Shrimp quesadilla - 5 stars - The quesadilla was a large size, so it was definitely sufficient for an entree. The tortilla was filled with extremely gooey cheese, several shrimps, onions, and bell peppers.

Their lent menu is a little more trimmed down than their regular food truck menu I have seen before. I got the fish sandwich, hush puppies, and a large side of lobster mac and cheese. It was a little pricey, $31. The lobster mac and cheese was as much as the sandwich for a container the size of a to-go soup bowl which seemed like a little much. There weren't that many lobster pieces for the price, like 3 or 4 decent-sized chunks, and the mac and cheese itself was pretty bland. The fish sandwich was the best part but I still wasn't wow-ed; I was also charged $1 for one slice of american cheese. I'm fine with paying extra for things, that just seemed excessive. The hush puppies and fries were clearly just frozen, and the fries were cold. For the price, I wouldn't come back here during lent but may visit the food truck at a different time to see the bigger menu.

The slaw was good too, but overall I'm just not that big of a fan of slaw. The fish and chips came with 4 decently sized pieces of haddock and a bunch of fries. Honestly, this could be a meal for 2 people if you're not extremely hungry. It was kind of expensive, but worth it in my opinion due to the quality and the amount of food. I would go again. I'm interested in trying their lobster rolls after lent is over!

Walking in with very high expectations, I can honestly say it exceeded everything we imagined. They offered a special Mother's Day brunch menu, featuring drinks, sides, bites, and main dishes. Everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their meals as well. This included the Breakfast Burger, Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, and Mr. Breakfast. The only item that fell a little short for me was the bacon. The flavor and thickness was very good, but it was too limp for each of our tastes. As for the drinks, I never pass up the opportunity to order an espresso martini. My husband and I have eaten here twice--once for lunch last year and once for dinner this year. Both times, we enjoyed the employees' service and the foods. Here are my ratings for what we ate: Passionfruit-Paloma Mocktail - 4 stars - sour. Spring Sangria - 4.5 stars - slightly fruity. Jumbo Pretzel - 5 stars - huge size with beer cheese and mustard sauce. French Onion Soup - 5 stars - This soup had a rich broth, onions, and cheese. Ybor Cuban sandwich - 4.5 stars - nicely crunchy toast with tasty pork, ham, and Swiss cheese and a side of crispy onion rings. Salmon - 5 stars - I ordered this entree both times. Owned by longtime locals John and Melanie Dober, it positions itself as a warm, community-focused spot blending upscale comfort food with a welcoming vibe--think handcrafted sandwiches, premium Black Angus steaks, fresh seafood, flatbreads, and daily specials, all with thoughtful wine and bourbon selections. We were excited for what promised to be a polished neighborhood gem, and in many ways, it delivered. The food was genuinely great and the clear highlight. Our dishes were flavorful, well-executed, and creative without being fussy--fresh ingredients shone through, portions were generous, and everything arrived hot and beautifully plated. It's easy to see why so many reviewers rave about the crab cakes, steaks, and chef specials; the kitchen clearly knows what it's doing. This is elevated American fare that feels special yet approachable, and we'd happily return just for the meals. That said, a few aspects fell short and left us feeling the overall experience wasn't quite as seamless as the food deserved. First and foremost, the billing transparency issue was disappointing. They add a 3% bank/credit card processing fee to the check (which adds up quickly on a family dinner), but this isn't disclosed on the menu, at the table, or in any obvious way during the ordering process. There's only a small sign posted outside the restaurant. We only noticed it when the bill arrived, and it felt like an afterthought rather than a clear policy. In an era where many restaurants are upfront about surcharges (or absorb them), this lack of disclosure came across as sneaky and detracted from the otherwise positive value perception. The atmosphere was another mixed bag. The space itself is attractive--soft lighting, comfortable seating, and that friendly "upscale brew pub" energy the owners aim for. However, it was noticeably noisy during our evening visit. Conversations required raised voices, especially as the dining room filled up, which made it hard to relax and enjoy the meal fully. OpenTable rates the noise as "moderate," but on our night it tipped louder than that, possibly due to the layout or lack of sufficient sound absorption. A bit more attention to acoustics could make a big difference. Service was mostly attentive and efficient, but the management interaction stood out in a negative way. When we politely mentioned the surprise fee at the end of the meal, the response was an apology that felt scripted and insincere--like it had been delivered many times before without real follow-through or ownership. It didn't leave us feeling heard or valued as guests. On a brighter note, the owners John and Melanie genuinely come across as lovely people. The restaurant has that personal, homegrown touch you can sense even when they're not physically present, and locals speak highly of them. They were absent during our nighttime visit, though, which is understandable for owners juggling a busy operation--but their warmth is missed when the front-of-house team is handling everything solo. In summary, Wexford Public excels where it matters most: the food is consistently excellent and worth the trip on its own. The family-owned charm and diverse menu make it a strong neighborhood choice for special occasions, casual dinners, or even happy hour in the cocktail bar. However, clearer communication about the credit card fee (ideally on the menu or bill upfront), better noise management, and more authentic handling of guest concerns would elevate it from very good to outstanding. We'll likely go back for the cuisine, but with tempered expectations on the finer details. If you're in the Wexford area and prioritize great American plates, it's still a solid recommendation--just check the small print before you pay.
