The food is very good and delicious. Reminiscent of home made cooking you would find in a Thai home. . The Tom Yum soup is sweet and light, the pumpkin curry is tasty with generous amounts of pumpkin, the Pad Thai is very delicious with generous amounts of noodles and vegetables , etc. After being open more than ten years in El Sobrante, they still do not disappoint. Very quaint spot right on the El Sobrante main strip. Good customer service and the portions were large. Any time I go to a new Thai restaurant, I order the Pad Thai. If you mess that up, then we can't move forward in life! The Pad Thai was solid and I'll definitely be returning some day. This is one of the few places that gets "Thai spicy" without losing the flavor. Their dishes tend to be light on the sugar if you prefer that this is the place for you. The mango sticky rice was delish and satisfied my craving for something sweet. Close by for a quick and easy pick up on a Friday night. The server was very kind and helpful with my dish modifications to make the dishes vegan (no oyster sauce, no fish sauce, no shrimp paste) and suggested using soy sauce instead which was very kind. They also asked me if I could have milk in my Thai tea which I thought was so considerate. When I told them no, I couldn't have milk, they offered to put coconut milk in the Thai tea instead and it was SO DELICIOUS! The fresh rolls were also great. All of the other dishes were very tasty too, we got yellow curry, the stir fried eggplant dish, and the pra ram all modified and they were very good. I really appreciated how thoughtful and helpful this place was to make sure I was eating everything okay for my diet! We dined in at this place for dinner last week for the 1st time and 2 days later, we ordered take out. This place is REALLY GOOD! Yes, the place is small, but when we go, there's plenty of parking (either behind the restaurant or street parking in front), and the place is not full during the 8-10pm hour. Don't know about earliar though. Service was quick, actually, the fastest service we've ever gotten at a Thai restaurant on both occasions. The waitstaff is very friendly and is always smiling : ) Actually, I've just came back from Bangkok last month and got to try out my thai with them : ) Food is delicious! Decent place, but I've had better (hence the two stars). We ordered a couple things: crab wontons, satay chicken, chicken salad (called larb elsewhere), and pumpkin curry with shrimp. Out of everything, the curry was my favorite, and it is easily worthy of 4 or 5 stars on its own. The larb is definitely served like a salad here, so it wasnt the best. It's usually my favorite Thai meal! The satays were fine, and the wontons were just okay. We also got Thai iced teas, and they tasted "different" here. I didnt even drink all of mine, it was weird. I was a little hesitant going into this little hole in the wall after we just moved into town. However, the food is flavorful and priced well! We have had the same waitress on the 5 or so times we have come here so far and she has always been friendly and helpful. One time the stir-fry was undercooked and she immediately offered to fix it with a new dish. Mango Sticky Rice is okay, I've had better elsewhere... sticky rice is a bit soggy and mangoes are a hit/miss (probably depending on season?). What's a mood killer is their slow service especially during lunch times. I've ordered to-gos here several times during lunch and I always enter the restaurant with no one around... I had to wait for 15 minutes or not to actually get someone. It was weird because you would hear someone doing something in the kitchen but when you scream to call for someone, they never answer you. First my boyfriend and I ordered their shrimp salad. It's pretty salty but not too much. It's flavorful with a nice crunch from the cashews. The prawns were juicy and didn't taste fishy. Coming in I already knew that I wanted the volcano salmon. When it came out it did not look at all like I as expecting it to haha. I, for some reason thought it was going to be salmon inside a spicy sauce with carrots, raisins and whatever else it said on the menu all mixed together. Nope! There as a nice piece of flaky salmon on top a soft bed of rice that came with this garlic vinegar (plus another ingredient...) sauce you pour on top. I am such a sucker for vinegar and garlic so this sauce was heaven to me. There was nothing volcano about the dish (no lava..nor was it spicy, not that I know if volcanoes are spicy) but it was still SO GOOD. The salad that came on the side was BOMB AS FUCK. I did not know it came with a salad, I thought everything as mixed together but this as a pleasant surprise. There is seriously just so much going on in the salad; Crispiness from the pieces of apple, a little chewiness from the raisins (I'm not normally a fan of raisins), creaminess from the avacado, crunchiness from the nuts.... I could seriously just eat a plate of this as my meal and be completely satisfied. My boyfriend got the pad thai. It was a little too sweet for me but he enjoyed it. I need to come back to try some more things but so far I highly recommend the volcano salmon plate. Pretty light and guilt free without compromising flavor. UPDATE: Got the jungle curry since it's not offered at a lot of Thai restaurants and would be a first for me. The flavor was good, just soooooo watery! pass for me. They know how to cook salmon. Their salmon salad is pretty good. They use sour mangos (still fresh, tender and juicy) so the flavor is more on that side of the scale. I'm personally more of a thai coffee (versus tea) fan and they make theirs well. They get pretty busy during lunch and give you a free simple salad that you'd normally get at a sushi restaurant. read more

This small restaurant only has about eight tables, and it has limited parking, it is really not a problem; San Pablo Dam Road has a lot of traffic but there are very few businesses open in the evening. There are two seating areas. The booths in the nook are quiet. The tables in the main area offer a great view of the street and the Sikh temple on the hill; the tables are very close together and you can get a good look at what other people are enjoying. Everything I have here has been enjoyable. Most of the food I've had as not been spicy-hot, rather it as been a delicate blend of spices that is really well done and I can taste all the different seasoning. I have either ordered or tasted the following dishes. Soups Tom Kah Chicken Soup I really like this soup. The Lime Prawn Soup was the hottest dish I had and I would have it again. I've continued to go back to this restaurant for their consistent yellow curry chicken (one of the best that I've ever had) but have recently tried the following dishes: Green curry prawns Red curry pumpkin prawns Prawn rolls Yellow curry prawns Tom kha gai Three Seasons (a special) I was seriously hoping that the green curry would have a good kick to it...but it was on the VERY mild side. I've never had a more mild green curry. The flavors were good, the shrimp were abundant and the portion size was great...but it was really lacking heat! If I order this again I will ask that they make a spicier version for me. The red curry pumpkin prawn is probably one of my new favorite dishes at California Thai. The flavors of this dish are rich and the prawns are cooked perfectly. The vegetables in this dish are not overcooked. I can see myself ordering this mild curry over and over again. The prawn rolls were just okay. It was basically a thin shrimp wrapped in a egg roll wrapper and deep fried. They also put a few herbs in with the shrimp, but I couldn't identify what they were. The prawn rolls were served with a sweet and sour sauce. The yellow curry prawn dish is good, but I prefer their yellow curry chicken. The tom kha gai is pretty tasty! It compares pretty well to other Thai restaurants in the area. The three seasons is an item on their list of daily specials. This menu item contains two skewers each with a piece of beef, chicken and shrimp, along with several types of vegetables including carrots, bell peppers and onions. Along side the skewers are perfectly cooked pieces of vegetables including bell peppers, onions, carrots and broccoli. This dish is served with a sweet and sour sauce, a peanut sauce, a spicy lime sauce (and I've also seen it served with cucumber salad instead of the lime sauce). It's definitely filling and can easily be eaten without a side of rice. I'll definitely continue to go to this restaurant and try other dishes! read more

The thai tea here is refreshingly good. I nodded my head in silent approval at first sip. They have a good-sized menu. I was pleased to see so many curry options. The red curry is flavorful, but the portion was noticeably smaller than most places. Their dinner portion for the curry is maybe the same size (or smaller) than most lunch portions elsewhere. But their rice portion is big... Curry was decent and better than the other two nearby Thai restaurants. Service was also good. I'll probably go back to try the other curry options. read more
