Patio tiles after - like new!

If you're looking for the real deal to save your tiles, look no further! These guys are the best in the business - couldn't be more grateful to have found them and for not only the impeccable work they did, but for the work ethic with which Fritz carries his business. It's hard these days to find someone who really knows that they're doing, performs high quality work, AND who is great to work with, and that's Fritz and his team. We had a patio and a few staircases of Lincoln pavers that I thought were goners. They hadn't been sealed properly upon installation, and the combination of weather, dirt, and damage from painters had them looking pretty bad. I contacted a bunch of other tile professionals but no one seemed to really know just how sensitive Saltillo tiles and Lincoln pavers are - they suggested using a gas power washer, which would absolutely break them. I called Fritz and recognized his voice right away from all the YouTube videos I'd watched on how to treat these tiles specifically. The work he and his team did did not disappoint! Fritz was able to fit me in the same week, and came with a team of guys who worked 100% by hand to impeccably clean and reseal each tile. Couldn't believe how quickly they worked and the level of precision they had on each tile. Fritz even took a razor blade and scraped off each bit of paint from the painters. My tiles are looking gorgeous and they are now SO easy to clean. My rain barrel spilled a bunch of algae gunk on the tiles and grout a week after they left, and it wiped right off. The patio looks about as new as when the tiles were first installed. Lastly, after they left and I'd already paid, I realized that there was a calculation error with the square footage billed. Fritz could have just taken my money, ghosted me, and run, but he was willing to correct the mistake and sent me back the accidental extra payment. As I said, it's hard to find people who have strong work ethic, and this really showed Fritz's true colors as a business owner and his work ethic. I'd 100% use his services again, and would recommend him to anyone else looking for someone who knows how to work with Saltillos/Lincoln pavers.

    After Saltillo Tiles being restored

Excellence, Expertise, Exceeding Expectations bar none! Seeing Fritz with Keven, Justin, and Caleb reminded me of the Old World, European Master Craftsman building legacy with his young apprentices. At a time when the youth are running after quick money, what a pleasant surprise to see these guys actually like and respect their boss, enjoy their profession and take pride and ownership in their work - no matter the size, scale of the work. As far as I'm concerned, California Tile blows their competition out of the water. There is no other company like this and I will be using them in all of my renovations.

Middle -- tiles are stripped but not sealed yet. Already look 100% better.

We recently bought a Spanish-style house with about a million square feet of very old and very... shall we say well-used Saltillo tile flooring. I did a lot of reading on how to strip and refinish it (and briefly entertained the thought of doing it myself; pro-tip: DO NOT DO THIS). My husband found Fritz's videos, and what he said about not using machines resonated with what we had read online. I contacted him and he was super fast in responding; scheduled really quickly and worked with our moving timeline; and brought down an amazing crew of very friendly and VERY VERY hard-working people who transformed our tired tile into a real show-stopper. He also replaced two cracked bullnose tiles on the outside patio steps. All in all, stellar job

I recently used this group of guys (I would not call them a company) two strip brand new Saltillo that I had so that I could have them match another room in my house. Fritz The owner and the charismatic ConMan promised me that they would look brand new when he was done. They ruined our tile and while I was at work they pressured my wife into paying them. The worst part is one of his workers took my wife's phone and paid him in a non-business way so that we could not dispute the charge without filing a police report. Now we are having to go after them in court. Unfortunately these guys do not have insurance nor a business license so we will have to go after them personally. I know a ton of other people who have gone through the same thing with this company and they will start to speak out now as well. I really hope that they get arrested for what they've done we will go after them to the full extent of the law.

Before - Brick floor in living room. Somebody help us!

24 years ago we bought a house with 50 year old brick floors in it (under carpet that was glued to padding that was glued to brick). We exposed the brick but were never able to really get it cleaned up. We had about five different kinds of contractors come in to bid on the job over the years and they all said it would be way too much work to fix and offered instead to bid on jackhammering it all up. I'm too stubborn to give up. 12 years ago we had Saltillo put into more of our rancho style house to kind of blend with the original brick (since this kind of brick is no longer available). The grout lines are too wide and they used too much sand, so it's been really hard to keep the grout clean. And then over the years we have walked the stain right off of the Saltillo in the kitchen. I searched long and hard to find someone who actually knew how to fix all of this. Fritz said it would all have to be stripped by hand so the bricks and tile would not get damaged. He said they could get the bricks and grout all cleaned up and well sealed, and would restore the Saltillo. The pictures, before and after, speak for themselves. It took six guys 17 hours working on their knees to accomplish this. They were polite, diligent, hardworking, and knew what they were doing. They kept the jobsite clean and even repaired a couple of damaged tiles I didn't ask them to repair. They put 6 or 7 coats of sealer on it, and recommend they come back in 3-5 years to keep the traffic areas looking good. They charged exactly what they quoted in the first place. (I had no trouble finding their contractor's license on the state contractors license board website, so I'm not sure what other people commenting here about no license are talking about.) I recommend them highly.

We recently undertook the project of updating and restoring a Spanish Duplex on Miracle Mile. The big splurge we opted for was to replace an old checkerboard vinyl kitchen floor with a beautiful saltillo floor - or so we dreamed. Instead, the people we hired (admittedly unlicensed) ended up screwing up multiple aspects of the installation process. Lesson learned. The result was hazy and dirty looking, the groutlines were ugly and patchy, and there were marks from painter's tape on the floor. What's more, they didn't even fully seal it, so the floor got dirtier and dirtier in only a few weeks. At our lowest point, my husband thought of having the floor entirely redone, but then I found Fritz's blogs online and suggested we hire saltillo tile specialists to "restore" the floor even though it was brand new. A huge team came out to address our kitchen floor and within a half day they had transformed it, leaving me speechless. I never thought our floor could look as good as it did again and it matched our references perfectly. Fritz communicated well, did a few sample tiles before we proceeded to attack the whole thing, and managed my expectations while still exceeding them. He also kept the reference I gave him close and obviously studied it while they worked. Thanks so much, Fritz! We'll be using you when we need maintenance in the future. AMAZING! See below and after pictures below!

I hired Fritz and his team for a last-minute engagement when they had a gap in their schedule. Lucky for me because they took our ugly tile patio and whipped it into shape in only 2 days. I had tried numerous times over the past 3 years to scrub it, seal it, pressure wash it, etc to no avail. I didn't think the results would be this good- I'm glad I was wrong. Nice work and would definitely recommend and hire again.

    Our kitchen tile!

We STRONGLY recommend Fritz and his team for Saltillo tile refinishing and installation! We had tile installed 15 yrs ago and needed either to remove it or continue it into out kitchen. We did not like the color so really thought about taking it out until we saw the cost!!! We found CA Tile Restoration and could not have been happier with the results! Our old tile was stripped, new tile was laid and then all of it was stained and sealed. Fritz made sure that the tile retained its rustic look in a beautiful shade. The whole team was easy to work with and spent the time to be sure our tile came out beautifully!!!

WARNING: Please do your due diligence when using this contractor. Ask for contractors' numbers and check to see if he's bonded. I could find no such information. You will want to make sure that you get a written estimate which includes his full contact information. He also claims to guarantee his work so you'll DEFINITELY want that in writing as well. My experience was a very bad one. Besides using fake products he didn't bother to move furniture, pots or even items leaned against the wall. The corners were still extreme!y dirty and untreated. All surfaces are now greasy and already look bad. The residue of whatever he used now tracks through at my house. Whatever this product it was designed to leave a shine and repel water long enough for him to collect payment. He then tried to overcharged me by 67% and lied about the square footage. He then charged me almost $1300 to fix a 5 square feet of tiles. When I try to address the issue with him he refuses to return any texts or calls after cashing my check. He only did so once was I stopped payment and called me an "angry little man". Use this contractor at your own risk.

We are so happy we found Fritz and his son Mike. We had attempted other restoration avenues for our now 19 year old Saltillo tile courtyard, which resulted in layers of failed sealer and restoration attempts. Fritz, Mike and team brought it back the beauty and character! We were so impressed we asked him to look at our interior Saltillo and he advised a good clean and reseal, while stripping and resealing the kitchen...beautiful!! Can't say enough about the results, expertise, care and competence of the team.

We hired Fritz to refinish Saltillo tile. From what we gained from prior owners, the tile was installed in the early 1960's as part of an addition. Based on the appearance of the tile and many years use as a rental, it is highly doubtful that any maintenance was done in over 50 years of use and abuse. The finish was worn off and it was downright black and disgusting! Fritz and his team worked hard to strip, wash, and then re-seal the tile. The tile kept the variation in color and patina, but is now clean and shiny. We plan to use Fritz for maintenance every 3-5 years. It is helpful to note that I obtained quotes from 4 vendors total for this project. (My first real estate agent taught me to always get at least 3.) Fritz wasn't that cheapest or the most expensive, but I felt that he was the only one who truly specialized in Saltillo tiles, which is a bit more of a niche.

Rug pad fused to the tile.

Fritz and his right hand man Kevin are "Old School" craftsmen. The kind of people who are passionate about what they do and it definitely shows in the results they achieve. No machines for these guys, along with their crew Tazzy and Antony, they are on their hands and knees scrubbing each tile and cleaning grout until the job is done and done right. His services do not come cheap, but that is to be expected. The old adage "You get what you pay for" would apply in this case. My floors were in pretty bad shape. The finish in high traffic areas had worn off , dirt was ground into the tile and the grout was filthy. In the family room the pad underneath the area rug had fused to the tile. After six days of incredibly hard work on the part of Fritz & Co. my floors are glowing! So happy to have found Fritz. Now I really do have a friend in the tile business!

He was able to come out to provide a quote late on the same day that I contacted him, and he made sure that we had enough tile to complete the job (we had purchased it almost two years ago and then procrastinated on hiring the tile installer, and we had gotten only just barely enough -- 15 subway tiles left at the end). He was prepared to discuss the schedule at that time, and it worked out that he was able to fit in our small job (with the help of his assistant) before he started work on another larger project the following week. Roberto was easy to work with throughout, texting back quickly whenever we had questions. Roberto also gave us good suggestions about the grout and schluter colors for the finish, and we love the way the finished project matches our cabinets. The work itself was very well done, as far as I can tell. I realize as I write this review that I can't compare and contract tile installers the way I would compare different restaurants. I've only ever hired one other (in the East Bay, more than a decade ago). I'm including a photo that I sent around to family to show them how beautiful it looks. As far as cost, Roberto's bid was the middle of the three quotes we received, but it was pretty close to the lowest bid. I had much greater confidence in Roberto from our interactions, so we selected his firm for the job. I will go directly to Roberto in the future if we have any tiling projects.
