Cement board over the new subfloor
R D.

We hired Alfonso and his team to tile our kitchen floor and they were AMAZING: hard working, patient, meticulous perfectionists. They took their time to make sure everything was done right. The results speak for themselves. Our original kitchen floor was creaky, not level, and covered with fake wood, vinyl boards that weren't wearing well. When they pulled up the flooring, they found the subfloor was made with toxic exterior plywood boards laid over the old joists, so they had to rebuild the subfloor entirely from scratch. Alfonso gave us a choice of either laying cement boards over the existing floor (cheaper but would have raised the floor ¼" higher than the adjacent room's floor), or reinforcing the joists with stringers and lowering the subfloor, to make it level with the other room and strengthen the floor (a bit more but more polished looking). We appreciated having a choice that was budget conscious, but chose to go with the flush option. The added cost was reasonable for this unexpected work, and his team worked very hard to get it done quickly and efficiently, so they could still deliver on time. When we were indecisive about grout color, Alfonso made mockup samples of a few colors so we could see the end result more easily and was very patient and accommodating as we waffled our way through it, offering his expert opinion at every turn. The original estimate for the project was 4-6 days, and even with losing a few hours to an unexpected gas leak and the need to detour to rebuild the subfloor (literally improving our home from the inside out), they still finished on time and did a truly fantastic job. The work is exceptional, better than we could even have imagined or hoped. On top of all the obvious skill and pride in their work, Alfonso's team is among the most conscientious, hardworking crews we've ever worked with. Alfonso is friendly, warm, and communicative and made sure we knew what to expect at every stage of the project, frequently texting me with updates and talking with me onsite. His communication (and his assistant Maria!) was invaluable. We didn't move out during the work and were onsite every day so we saw up close how focused and professional they were. They made every effort to protect our other floors and to minimize dust and disruption. They cleaned up spotlessly at the end of every day (so you would hardly have known they were there). They arrived every day at 8 a.m. on the dot and worked steadily with just a lunch break through to 4:30/5. His crew was dedicated, respectful, kind, friendly, and hard working the whole time they were here. We knew we were in good hands. Of all the bids we got, Alfonso's was one of the more expensive, but it was also the most comprehensive -- including everything from removing and reinstalling appliances and baseboards, demolition and haul away, leveling the floor, laying the tile, waterproofing, sealing the grout, and cleaning up meticulously every day. Alfonso's work--given its exceptionally high quality--is absolutely worth it. Some of the other installers we talked to didn't include these end-to-end services in their costs, and it was worth every penny to have the project be handled by such professionals from start to finish. We hope someday we'll have another tiling project so we can work with Alfonso and his crew again! We really can't recommend Alfonso/GM Elite enough. Thank you, Alfonso, for our beautiful new floor!

We hired Alfonso and his team for a second time to tile our new shower! They deliver exceptional quality and customer service, going above and beyond from start to finish for the project. I was having trouble deciding on the grout color, and Alfonso took the time to mock up the three options I was considering and displayed them beautifully for me to review. I am so thrilled to have had the opportunity to work with them again, and highly recommend GM Elite Tile & Stone for any tile projects.

Alfonso and his entire crew were a godsend to me and my husband. We embarked on a very fast renovation of our home (2 months to gut and remodel 3 full bathrooms, new kitchen backsplash, 2,000 sq ft of new flooring, painting the entire interior, etc.). For our bathrooms and kitchen backsplash, we initially decided to go with a family friend who does tile but quickly realized we needed a crew who could move faster. Enter Alfonso. We got a very thorough quote from him, detailing the entire cost of the project (very reasonable for the amount of work needed) and the timeframe (3 1/2 weeks - WHAT?!) and after reading the wonderful reviews on Yelp, we committed to moving forward with him. The quote included new plumbing throughout, removing the 13 inch bulkhead in our master shower to give us more space, installing tile floors and tile for the tub and 2 showers, installing new fixtures, a tub, 3 toilets, 3 new vanities, hanging all the finishing features like lighting, mirrors, towel racks, etc. He showed up with an entire crew ready to go by 7am THE NEXT MORNING. I kid you not, I cried when his team showed up and started putting my home back together. We worked with SO many contractors during the reno, and his crew was BY FAR the most respectful, clean, hardest working crew we had in our home. We gave them full access to our home with a lockbox and we had complete trust in them being there when we weren't home. They cleaned up after themselves every evening, and they were completely flexible in working around other contractors - even the flooring crew that had to rip up all flooring throughout the entire home and install new flooring, all while Alfonso's crew continued to put our bathrooms back together. Alfonso is SO knowledgable and meticulous about his work. We asked for his opinion multiple times throughout on design elements (like how the tile should be laid, the color of the grout, etc.) and he was always a great tiebreaker between me and my husband :) One thing we really loved about working with Alfonso is how simple he made the decision making process on a day to day basis. We weren't living in the home when it was being renovated so we weren't always in person to make decisions. He would send us quick texts when a decision was needed, usually showing photos with options 1, 2 and 3, and made it so easy for us. He was always available to talk through things in-depth when needed, but we loved the quick texts for efficiency sake. Lastly, we threw a lot of extra asks at Alfonso throughout the project, including connecting us with his contact for shower doors (which turned out SO NICE), installing new baseboards in all 3 bathrooms, moving light fixtures, etc. He was always accommodating and STILL finished the project early, even with the extras. Alfonso was truly the best contractor we worked with and we are so thankful every single day that we chose to hire him. The end result is so stunning and we would recommend him and his crew to anyone looking for meticulous work, delivered quickly and at a great price. Look no further than Alfonso!

After - Complete Bath and Tile Remodel

Alfonso and his team, a family-owned business, is truly a master at their craft. As you can see from my before and after photos, Alfonso and the team executed my vision. I was working with a limited budget, time, and actual space. They were incredibly accommodating - respectful of the home, adjustments like my own errors - buying the wrong sized door but they made it happen etc. You can see the before and after pictures here, the Gutierrez team is professional, thorough, and punctual. They worked tirelessly to complete my main bathroom remodel, kitchen countertops, fireplace tile and entryway. I am going to hire Gutierrez and the team again for my future projects. I'd recommend this company to all of my friends and family. His wife also has a cleaning business that everyone should consider - be sure to ask for her as well. It's very difficult to find an honest and trustworthy team. These reviews are a true testament to their work and craftsmanship.

Alfonso and his team retiled my bathroom shower surround and floor. Their attention to detail, ability to understand and execute on my concept, and overall professionalism and respect of my home was beyond what I had yet experienced from any contractor. Alfonso is a tiling expert and spent lots of time carefully instructing his apprentices. He accommodated an atypical request to have wood shower shelves, and went out of his way to track down a shower-safe treated wood that matched the tone I was looking for. The end result is stunning and I can't believe it's my own bathroom. Look no further for tiling.

Of all contractors I've ever worked with, Alfonso is the best they come. He is responsive, fair, and takes great pride in his work. We switched our wood-burning fireplace to a gas fireplace insert, and also wanted new tiling. Alfonso helped me with selecting the tile and ordering the correct amount. Before I even committed to the project, Alfonso brought by a sample that another one of his clients had used and never pressured me about deciding. Alfonso and his team are meticulous about everything they do, including cleaning everything up at the end of each day of a three-day project. Because we had a gas insert, we needed to build a platform off the ground. We gave him the measurements, and they were perfectly executed. Even the fireplace installers told us what a great job he had done. As for the tile and trim, they are perfectly cut and aligned, and there are no flaws in the grout. The tile we chose had different variations in color, and Alfonso made sure that they were evenly spaced and not too many of the same color tiles were in a row. The base board that was used with the old tile stuck out further than the new tile. Instead of cutting corners, Alfonso used his miter saw to re-finish the base board and did a better job than the original contractors. Not only is Alfonso a hard worker, he is a genuinely nice person. I hope to work with him and his team again soon!

Alfonso and his team did an absolutely incredible job retiling our old, brick fireplace. His quote was very reasonable and his team's work was superb. The project took a bit longer than anticipated, but that is because his team did not rush and took care of every little detail. We could not be happier with the end result. I would highly recommend Gutierrez Tile to anyone with a tiling project. THANK YOU Alfonso!

New tile floor

Our 1930's bathroom had its original floor tile, but it had been pretty much destroyed when prior homeowners installed low-grade, dingy tile on top of it. We wanted to install a new tile floor to reflect the Art Deco character of the original bathroom. We contacted Alfonso for a quote, and he showed up that same week and provided a very reasonable quote for the job. We accepted the quote, and Alfonso said that they could start the following week. I never expected such a prompt start to the job! The project itself took three days, and every day, Alfonso and his crew showed up exactly on time. I didn't realize how much work it would take. I knew they would need to remove both the newer tile and original tile, but the entire concrete subfloor had to be demolished too. Unfortunately, there was some significant rot in the remaining wooden beams, but they meticulously repaired it all. Then, a new concrete subfloor was poured, and the new tile could finally be put in place. We couldn't be happier with the result! Alfonso and his team were very careful throughout the demolition process, the new floor looks flawless, and the price came in exactly as initially quoted. I would highly recommend Gutierrez Tile Installation!

Alphonso did a tremendous job with our bathroom remodel in January 2024. The old tiling had cracked so water was seeping through and causing the wall to rot. He had to tear it apart, replace the rotten studs, re-insulate, and install new tiling for the shower walls and floor. Alphonso and his team were careful and clean with their work, minimizing any impact to the rest of the home. I'd love to hire them again for our next bathroom or tile installation project.

Large format hex floor tiles on mortar base

I deal with a lot of trades in my line of work, and I could not have been more impressed with Alfonzo. We wanted elongated subway tiles laid out in a herringbone pattern for our full bath remodel. Herringbone is not an easy pattern to lay out, and the dark grout that we were targeting demanded perfection, so I opted to go with Alfonzo vs my normal tile guy...Alfonzo absolutely nailed it. The pattern wraps around the tub seamlessly, and up to the ceiling with a completely even grout line across the field... a very difficult feat, given that the walls and ceilings of this 1920s era home are not perfectly plum and true. Alfonzo quoted a fair price, and took his time to do things the right way, making sure that every cut was perfect. He recommended a few changes to my original plan (mortar base vs cement board on the subfloor and building out the shower seat depth for a better appearance/layout). These recommendations were spot on, and though they required a bit more work, (for him) Alfonzo implemented both changes and stayed within his originally quoted price. Workmanship aside, I was equally impressed with Alfonzo and Co.'s work ethic, (stayed late when needed to complete the job on time) communication, (he would text me the night before with his ETA for the next day) and job site cleanliness (important when you are living through a remodel). 10/10, my man.

Gutierrez Tile has been fantastic to work with. Alfonso and his team are professional and incredibly accommodating, especially when our tile company kept ordering the wrong tiles. Gutierrez tile was thoughtful and understanding during each of the delays, which were 100% caused by us. Alfonso and his team were always on time, help us understand the next steps and timing as we coordinated other vendors to work in their space...plumbers. They just finished one of the 3 bathrooms, the kitchen, and are starting on the laundry room floor. Below is the bathroom #1 picture. I will add the rest as they finish. I would highly recommend Alfonso and his AMAZING team. Thank you for making our home beautiful.

midway through the thorough window trim work

This is a bit of a long review but Alfonso Gutierrez did outstanding work for me and I wanted to share my experience. I had a tile job for a bathroom remodel that I (foolishly) thought a handyman and I could handle myself, and when that project stalled, I looked for a tile setter on Yelp that could come in and finish the job. Specifically, I needed someone to tile the window and walls in my tub surround, and then grout the walls and floors. I also needed someone who was familiar with the Schluter Kerdi system, which was already installed with some build-up at the seams/corners. I found Alfonso contacted him for a quote via Yelp. He and his assistant (Maria) were very responsive to my inquiry and communicated very well via Yelp as well as via phone and email. He provided a preliminary quote from my written description and then looked at some photos and adjusted it slightly upward to reflect the detail work needed. This cost was VERY reasonable based on other quotes I had received. Alfonso also gave me five customer references to speak with because at the time he had no Yelp reviews, and while my job was small, I didn't want to make the mistake of hiring another subpar contractor, so I contacted all five. Everyone had incredibly positive feedback about him and his work, and that gave me confidence that he would be a good contractor for my project. Alfonso came by the very next day to look at the work to be done and confirmed the quote, and showed me a lot of pictures on his phone of similar work he had done. He said he would be able to schedule me in a few weeks due to his busy schedule. One thing that I noticed with Alfonso is he was very respectful of my house, taking off his shoes without having to be asked, and wearing an N95 mask. A few days later, Maria called me and said that Alfonso had finished a job early and would be available to start on my project, so he came over the following morning with Luis, his partner. They arrived on time to the minute as promised. (I had NEVER experienced a contractor that arrived on time, and the following day when they were literally 15 minutes later than promised, he was very apologetic.) Alfonso and Luis unloaded their equipment in the backyard and spent a little time protecting the floors all the way to the bathroom. I was impressed with their cleanliness; they protected the outside steps, they had a huge tub to catch all the tile saw water/debris, and they picked up every day after their work. When it came to actually tiling, Alfonso consulted me every step of the way: spacing and placement of the trim, how to continue the wall tile pattern around the changes in plane, and his plans for working around the aforementioned kerdi build-up. I would check in every so often and he would explain his work, which was really reassuring. When it came time to grout, he and Luis spent a great amount of time cleaning up MY mess and made quick work of the room. I was very pleased with the outcome and cannot stress enough how professional, gracious, and hardworking the team is. In a time when quality work is in high demand, and it's easy to get roped in with contractors who are unresponsive, overpriced, and not focused, it was really refreshing to work with someone like Alfonso who takes pride in his work. I would definitely have Gutierrez tile back for future projects!

Impeccably installed backsplash with handmade tiles from Fireclay.

Alfonso came to my rescue after a disastrous botched tile job by another installer. He came over right away, discussed his approach in more detail than anyone else I met with, gave me an excellent price, offered great flexibility on timing, and put my mind completely at ease. He and his team meticulously protected every surface. They removed the horrible tile work from the previous installer without any damage to my brand new cabinets and countertop. Then the first job they did was a gorgeous herringbone floor to complement the vintage wall tiles in my bathroom. My photo doesn't begin to do justice to it. Everyone who has seen it has commented spontaneously that it is amazing. The workmanship is exact. All of the diagonal cuts were done flawlessly, including the tricky cuts along the side of the bathtub. The people doing the wood floors right now saw that tile floor and said, "Wow, that's beautiful. We will build you a perfect transition that's worthy of it." Part of me wanted to wait to write this review so I could have a photo that incorporates the other work around it, but I didn't want to delay any longer. As if that wasn't enough, a plumbing problem happened while they were doing the installation. The supply hose was leaking badly. I said I would have to call an emergency plumber, but Alfonso said he and his team could fix it themselves. He sent Luis out to the hardware store and the two of them had it fixed in under an hour. Incredible! The next job was the redo of the kitchen backsplash the previous installers messed up. Having seen what Alfonso could do with that bathroom floor, I decided to get high-end tiles for the backsplash. They came from Fireclay and since they're handmade, they have subtle variation in size, which makes for a trickier installation. But of course Alfonso handled it perfectly. Not only that, but he insisted he could do a 1/16" spacing instead of the 1/8" the tile manufacturer recommended. (That recommendation is because only a real expert could pull off a 1/16" spacing without having it look too wonky.) Again, everyone who has entered the kitchen has been blown away. And even my rep from Fireclay said, "WHOA! That's GORGEOUS!" when he saw the pictures. Again, Alfonso was super accommodating in addition to being unbelievably skilled. I wanted to make sure I picked the perfect grout color and I wanted to test a few, so he made me a test board with a few tiles attached to it. And he said I could take my time figuring that out and he would fit in the grout work whenever I was ready. I am thrilled with Alfonso's work. It is above and beyond my expectations in every way. He is the very best in terms of quality, communication, price, expertise, courtesy, attention to detail, pride in his work, protection of clients' property, flexibility, and dependability. I am recommending him to everyone I know and I will never work with anyone else in the future. If I could give ten stars, I would.

I wish I got more updates during construction but they sent them whenever I asked. I liked that they were very contentious about talking with my neighbor when their van was blocking a little bit of their driveway--a lot of contractors wouldn't bother. I also had another neighbor who was causing some issues and they kept me in the loop, which I appreciated. - Price: I talked to several contractors and their price was pretty reasonable--not the lowest nor the highest, more in the middle. Cons: - After construction, I noticed some damage on parts that were supposed to be protected. They were minor damages, but annoying. The most noticeable one was a dent on my TV, which left a white dot that I see every time I turn on my TV, which sucks. - In terms of details, I noticed that there were some dings in pretty noticeable parts of the wood. I don't know if it was the crew or the wood came like that, but when I was testing a wood sample before purchasing, I hit the wood with a hammer and it didn't leave a mark, so it would take a lot of force to leave a dent like the one pictured. Kinda disappointing because the dent is smack in the middle of a high traffic area. Some last notes: - David came by to do a final walk through and helped me move some of the heavier furniture back. It didn't bother me but if you're expecting furniture to be put back the way it was originally, you'll want to manage your expectations. - You should definitely hire painters and cleaners after the construction--I didn't think the walls were going to be as scuffed up as they were. And everything will be superrrr dusty, even if it's covered. - When I expressed concern about not all baseboards being replaced, which I thought was the scope of work, he explained that he told his crew to use existing baseboards when possible. He said he did this to save me some cost and offered me $150 to cover the savings. I generally feel positive about this, although if I hadn't mentioned it I don't think it would've come up, so take that for what it's worth.

I asked our installer to pick out the tile in the best condition since we had ordered 10-20% extras and were very happy with the results.

My partner and I even made mock ups of the design we wanted to achieve. Noe was responsive over text when taking down our requirements, giving quotes, and estimating how much material we should purchase which we purchased on our own (though we might have over purchased our material by 20%, I'd much rather have extra than not enough!). Noe handled the tile and grout pick up when it was ready for installation day, and took care of the misc material purchases (finishing metal edge trim, tileset/cement, etc). Adrian and Luis are fantastic installers. Adrian's communication was really top notch (he kept us informed and updated often) and ran through options and recommended solutions when we encountered a bit of a snag with our subfloor and evened it out for us (we wanted to elongate and cut the corners of our rectangular entry way tile). Luis' tile work also really great. His cuts were clean, tiles were even/level, spacing of the grout lines were pretty even as well. I've had tile work done through a general contractor before (they had some rough cuts and some pretty bad tile lippage leading to uneven surfaces) - their quality is nothing compared to Luis' work, our entry way and fireplace with the herringbone pattern looks so good and it matched our mock ups very closely - they really brought our vision to reality! The three of them Noe, Adrian, and Luis really do live up to their company name as Tile Experts and they are very competitive with their pricing. You can check out the before and after photos (just ignore the ugly carpet in the pictures, we have not replaced it yet!) We are really happy and impressed with the work they did for us and would go back to them for any future tile work.

Bailey was very approachable and knowledgeable. He provided stylistic and customized insights to help us create great designs for both the kitchen and the bathrooms. Bailey is truly genuine to help the clients without any pushiness, so we felt very comfortable to rely on his advice. He helped us arrange for the kitchen cabinets, countertops, tiles, and many accessories, often following up with calls to confirm details with contractors. Everything turned out beautifully. Highly recommend!

We walked into their showroom in South San Francisco not knowing what to expect, and were greeted by a friendly gentleman named Bailey. Little did we know, that moment would mark the start of both a great project and a lasting connection. Bailey is professional, knowledgeable, sincere, and incredibly patient--everything you'd hope for in a salesperson. I originally was just looking for flooring at KZ but Bailey made us feel so comfortable we ended up getting pretty much everything here. One stop shop to save time and energy . He offered thoughtful advice every step of the way and was always there when we needed help. Even on his day off, he went out of his way to make sure everything was prepared for us. That level of dedication is truly top-notch. Their pricing is competitive, but for me, outstanding service makes all the difference--and Bailey delivered exactly that. If you're planning any remodeling, I highly recommend giving KZ Cabinet and Stone a try. Be sure to ask for Bailey--you won't regret it. The only negative feedback I have is the warehouse pick up staff may not be the most friendly but the job gets done.
