From the time of my first contact, Roberto responded quickly and professionally to every request. He was able to come out to provide a quote late on the same day that I contacted him, and he made sure that we had enough tile to complete the job (we had purchased it almost two years ago and then procrastinated on hiring the tile installer, and we had gotten only just barely enough -- 15 subway tiles left at the end). He was prepared to discuss the schedule at that time, and it worked out that he was able to fit in our small job (with the help of his assistant) before he started work on another larger project the following week. Roberto was easy to work with throughout, texting back quickly whenever we had questions. Roberto also gave us good suggestions about the grout and schluter colors for the finish, and we love the way the finished project matches our cabinets. The work itself was very well done, as far as I can tell. I realize as I write this review that I can't compare and contract tile installers the way I would compare different restaurants. I've only ever hired one other (in the East Bay, more than a decade ago). I'm including a photo that I sent around to family to show them how beautiful it looks. As far as cost, Roberto's bid was the middle of the three quotes we received, but it was pretty close to the lowest bid. DO NOT HIRE!!! Roberto tiled our shower and it looked beautiful initially. Then we noticed that he used brown grout to tile the top portion of our shower (to stick it to the wall). It seeped through and ruined the tile. He was literally too lazy to go to the store to get white grout. The bottom of the wall he tiled looks fine but the top portion is awful. This was clearly his mistake. I told him I'd even buy replacement tile but he needed to fix it. We haven't heard from him since. Zero integrity. Stay away!!! read more

We worked with Roberto from Escarlata Tile and Stone during our bathroom remodel. Roberto and his team helped us with three projects: (1) demolition/removal of our existing bathroom finishes, (2) re-tiling of our bathroom floor, shower floor, and shower walls, and (3) cutting and installing the stone for our vanity and in our shower. Roberto's craftsmanship throughout the entire project was suburb. The tile and stone that he installed looked fantastic, and we were absolutely trilled with the final product. Additionally, Roberto completed the work in exactly the amount of time that he had specified, and worked on a Saturday to get the job done time. We were amazed by how quickly everything got done! In terms of communication, while the project was going on Roberto was easy to reach and was a good active communicator. He asked us to drop by several times throughout the project in order to clarify some details, which we appreciated. Leading up to the project, it was occasionally hard to get a hold of Roberto, but at the end of the day Roberto started right when he said he would and was a fantastic communicator while the actual work was occurring. Another thing that we appreciated about Roberto was that he was a good solutions-oriented problem solver. There were several small issues that came up during the project (for example, we had gotten the wrong drain) and rather than letting this stop him Roberto just dealt with these issues (went and bought the right drain) so that the project could keep moving. Lastly, Roberto provided some well-appreciated design recommendations to help us make the right decisions around tile and stone. For instance, we were originally going to use a very large type of tile for our shower floor, but Roberto suggested that a smaller tile will look better because of the angle that he needed to place the tile to ensure proper drainage. We didn't feel pressured into changing our mind, but appreciated his experienced perspective around these types of smaller decisions.
