Caliwala has mastered the art of bread making and pastries! Our family of four arrived craving baked goods and we left beyond satisfied! We ordered the cinnamon roll, lemon curd tart, apricot tart, almond shortbread cookie and Sonara loaf. Everything was delicious and the bakers clearly have a deep knowledge of how every ingredient interacts and affects the final product. Both their skill and use of premium ingredients came through with each bite. We will definitely return next time we are in the area!

Picked up both sweet and savory croissants - an almond and a Canadian bacon and cheddar. I think they were both sourdough as well. Both were flaky and crunchy. So filling. Wish we got there earlier to try their various bread offerings. Pretty much sold out by time we arrived.

They also sell adorable things like baby shoes that are handmade by women in Nepal.

Lovely & charming tiny bakery that sells delicious & organic viennoiseries. The pain au chocolat was divine. They also sell adorable things like baby shoes that are handmade by women in Nepal. You gotta check the boulangerie, it's a gem. Check the hours!

    Strawberry and cream cheese croissant

Excellent food. We got the strawberry and cream cheese croissant as well as the gluten free sourdough bread. Cute little shop with sweet staff members.

Caliwala Bakery is near the Beerwood restaurant and Los Osos & Baywood Park Farmers Market. It is an amazing bread shop. The cranberry walnut is our family's favorite. I like to use it to make a sandwich. We highly recommend you check out this bread shop if you are visiting this area, especially if you love sourdough bread.

    Vegan Everything Croissant

This place is what vegan dreams are made of! We arrived shortly after opening and everything was freshly baked. The aroma of fresh bread was mouthwatering. They have a good assortment of vegan options and our cookies were nice and hot! We will return during our stay to try their vegan tamale pie! The bakers were so helpful, warm, and friendly. Peace and love vibes for sure! Highly recommend for any and all visiting the Los Osos/Morro Bay Area.

A must stop for all things fresh baked, even for my gluten-free gang! I didn't know this was the same baker/owner as the former bakery in this spot (I think it was just a name change). The baker was really pleasant and helped me chat through some options for my boyfriend (not gluten free) and me (very gluten free). The baker said his wife has been the catalyst behind the GF option, so if you're reading this, thank you! My partner got the traditional pain au levain loaf, a sourdough croissant, and I got two chocolate chips cookies (GF and made with cashew milk) and an empanada. Don't sleep in...their loaves go fast. In my opinion, the bread was very affordable, and a great purchase. Yum! They also have other little snacks and cupboard items. There is outside seating, and plenty of parking space on the road.

The quality and selection here would be excellent for town much larger than Santa Margarita. Here, it's a revelation. Well done!

Wayward Baking is one of my favorite bakeries of 2026…read more 1. I've only heard great things about Wayward Baking so I had some expectations - each one of them was met and then some. This bakery is simply amazing and everything I tried was so good. 2. I ordered a kouign amann, chocolate croissant, morning bun, double chocolate cookie, and two caneles. If I could order more, I would've added a rice pudding danish, basque cheesecake slice, and madeleine. I love that when standing in line, you can peek into the kitchen to see what the bakers are working on. It's really nice to see the process and work that go into everything. 3. Their chocolate croissant is my ideal chocolate croissant. I love when the outer layer is crisp and the inner layers are soft and buttery. The caneles were yummy - they were crispy on the outside, custardy on the inside, and the flavor was perfect. I loved the double chocolate cookie as well, it had great texture and the flavor was very balanced - not too sweet! 4. Even if it's a bit out of the way, I would absolutely come back every time I'm in the area.

I really wanted to like Wayward Bakery. There aren't many bakeries in the area, and when we…read morevisited, this seemed like one of the more promising options. The space itself is cute and has the feel of a neighborhood hangout, and the pastries are beautifully presented. Unfortunately, the pastries were hit or miss. Some were nice and flaky, while others tasted a little stale. The ham and cheese croissant was served cold, which was disappointing. We also tried the strawberry danish and tomato danish, and both were pretty mid. The standout, however, was their seasonal fig and walnut danish--that one was actually really good and something I would have ordered again. Their drink selection is also pretty limited. It was essentially coffee and hot chocolate when we visited. As more of a tea person, I was disappointed that there weren't any tea options, and they didn't have juices either. The main reason for my low rating, though, was our interaction with the staff member who took our order. She came across as very rude and repeatedly made impatient tapping sounds while we were ordering. We were ordering quite a few items, and the interaction made me feel rushed and as though we were inconveniencing her simply by placing a larger order. At first, I assumed she might just be having a bad day. But while we sat and ate our pastries, I watched her interact with other customers, and her demeanor was noticeably different--warm, friendly, and welcoming. That contrast made our experience even more uncomfortable. We were the only Asians in the store at the time, and while I obviously can't know what motivated her behavior, the difference in how we were treated compared with the customers who came after us left me wondering whether our race played a role. That's a serious conclusion, and I don't make it lightly. I can only speak to what I personally observed and how the interaction made me feel. Unfortunately, it overshadowed the entire visit. Even with a couple of good pastries, I wouldn't come back.

We were lucky enough to snag the last almond croissant, and what a treat it was. The exterior had a sweet, delicate crunch, and with each bite, rich almond filling oozed out for the perfect balance of texture and flavor. It wasn't overloaded with powdered sugar, and the sweetness was just right--indulgent without being overwhelming. I also tried a slice of the salmon and leek quiche. It was light and fluffy while still feeling substantial and satisfying. The combination of savory salmon and sweet leek worked beautifully together. Whether you're starting your morning or looking for a midday pick-me-up, the quiche is a must-try. I was excited to try the house made mango-infused black iced tea, but unfortunately, there was nothing mango flavored about it That said, this bakery is still well worth a visit. Between the pastries and quiche, it is an easy stop to recommend when you're in Morro Bay.
