Callas Rennsport - A very rare 911 R. - Auto Repair Near Me - Torrance, California

I bought a pre purchase inspection for a 2008 Porsche Cayman I was looking to buy. It cost $950. The thorough report came with a few red flags that seemed like easy enough maintenance jobs, so I went ahead and bought the car the next weekend. The very next day after purchasing the car, I got a check engine light for cylinder 5 misfire. While the report did check for misfires and didn't find any, they failed to inspect the spark plugs or ignition coils, which are the most likely culprits. The car also struggled to start, which could be related to faulty spark plugs/ignition coils. They did not note this either. I called them to ask what could be done, and they offered absolutely nothing. Not even a free diagnosis. This leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I will not be going back. read more

Not the expertise you would expect from a high-end shop for my 1988 930. After struggling with performance issues and spending thousands of dollars and multiple visits and with the car out of commission for weeks at a time as Callas tried to solve the problems I complained about the final straw really came when the owner of the business Tony Callas drove the car and declared it to be running fine and that he could find no problems with it. Well it turned out that wasn't the case at all and you would think someone with Porsche racing experience and expertise would know that. So I took it to another shop, Vision Motorsports staffed by former Andial techs who discovered a faulty fuel pump, a restricted air filter and an injection CSI system that hadn't been tuned properly. It helped that they had a Dyno where they could simulate various conditions for the engine under power and identify the issues which Callas had said didn't exist. Well, the proof is in the pudding and all became clear after Vision Motorsports performed their work and I drove the car... it's a completely different car, the car is running strong and running like it should have all along. Why Callas Rennsport did not know that I have no idea. But I guess what bothers me the most is that they tried to convince me (an old guy with experience in Porsche's going back to the 70s) that everything was fine when I knew it wasn't. I'm glad I decided to take it to a second shop. I just wish I hadn't wasted so much time and money at Callas Rennsport. They are very expensive! It was also time for me to sort out the dreaded IMS/RMS issue on my 996 C4S, and the LN Engineering site named Callas Rennsport as the only IMS Solution certified installer in California -- presumably because they're the best. I was able to get the IMS/RMS procedure done with Callas, along with a new guibo, clutch and flywheel. Nothing but positive things to say about the team and the experience. I had the pleasure of working with David, who took care of me every step of the way. He was super helpful and very communicative. I learned to change my own cabin filter and air filter. The last mechanic shop prior to me changing them out was Callas Rennsport. I noticed they didn't not reinstall my cabin air filter tray. Also they used the cheapest air filters out there...Mann which is about $10 each. They charge an arm and leg for their maintenance service and they can't even use OEM brand quality parts like Mahle, which is about $40 each. This is overhyped. Update: Sadie, the office manager, reached out to me. After having a phone conversation and hearing my perspective of what went down and then speaking with her tech, she work things out with me that was to my satisfaction. read more

I've never felt so cheated or less important by a auto repair company . Wanted $450 just to check a check engine light & another $250 to look at my AC unit, $700 to just look at the car that didn't not include the repairs , the $700 was not going toward the repairs if we decided to do the work there. They are cons, never once called me unless I called first , if you want to be treated like 2nd class citizen take your vehicle to Callas. I paid to $250 for them to tell my AC don't work. I had a check engine light on for awhile and had another shop try to diagnose and fix yet the light came back on with the same code. I was referred to Callas Rennsport by Dinan to have a Dinatronics Stage 1 engine tune (that was purchased directly through Dinan) installed on a 2016 BMW F10. They are one of two Dinan authorized dealers/installers in the Torrance area. I called Callas Rennsport solely because they are a shorter distance from where I live. I spoke with a man named Tom who was pretentious, rude and unapologetic about not wanting to install the Dinatronics engine tune because it was not purchased through them. It doesn't matter what industry you're in, customer service is a basic and essential element to the success of a business. Tom is clearly out of touch with this aspect and made it clear to me that my business was not worth their time. I called Dinan, made them aware of my poor experience with a shop that they referred me to. They apologized for this experience, said they'd speak with the shop, and referred me to Eurocode Tuning in Torrance instead. That same day I called Eurocode Tuning (the other authorized Dinan dealer/installer in Torrance), was treated very well and squeezed into an overbooked schedule within 48 hours. I'll give my business, and refer others, to businesses who treat people well. Don't go to these guys. read more

I bought a Porsche 914 6 conversion. The car is solid but it ran a little rich and had an oil leak that was getting worse so I took the car to a local Porsche shop in Torrance for evaluation. Callas Rennsport has been around twenty years or so and Tony has worked on Porsches his whole life, in-fact his father had a shop as well. He also worked for Vasek Polak. They cleaned up the fuel injection problem but the oil leak was still an issue. He discouraged me from a complete rebuild or a new motor and wanted to keep the car to figure out a fix. Tony wasn't OK with charging me a lot of money he was interested in fixing the problem. He thought of a way to fix it but was very cautious in working it out. When it was done I could tell he felt real good about the result. I picked the car up and took it out for a little shake down cruise, mild by any standards but I did pushed it. The car ran fantastically! Absolutely great! I stopped and check it a couple of times and it was bone dry, no leeks. I can't thank them enough for their persistence and patience on working out a solution. I am elated with the outcome thanks to Tony and his crew. I highly recommend Callas Rennsport for your Porsche and BMW maintenance and repairs. read more

After taking a few days to check the car Tom called back with an estimate of $40k and said it would take 6 to 9 months to get it done properly. Very overpriced. AVOID this place if you love your wallet. I got a quote from them for my BMW for a very simple repair. I was shocked how much they wanted to charge me for that. I got it done somewhere else for 1/3 the price! They also ripped off my friend! They charged him 400 dollars for a simple ECU Programing and reseting the adaptations, which will take them only 5 minutes to plug it in, open the program and run it. The entire process takes only 20 minutes, but they kept his car for 4 hours to charge him more! read more

Callas Rennsport has been caring for my '89 911 Carrera 3.2 coupe since 2012, and they are the only folks who've touched it since. I was just there for the car's annual service, which this time also included new tires, a four wheel alignment, full servicing of the rear half shafts and new CV boots, new brake lines, brake flush, and myriad small checks and adjustments. This place is filled with caring, Porsche trained and certified techs who really treat every car as if it were there own. Service writers Tom and David are helpful and knowledgeable. Not the cheapest place in town by any stretch, but ultimately worth every penny as I want the best for this car. Quality costs money, but worth it to me and I return year after year and will continue to as long as they continue to respect me and my car. I left a review a couple/few years ago, and after the past few weeks of *MAJOR* work on my car, I'm indebted to Tony and team to leave another. Callas Rensport really is THE option you have for servicing your Porsche. Look no further, period. It is no surprise to see the bi-polar nature of the classics alongside the latest, top of the line Porsche models being catered to from all around the country after you experience it yourself. After the past I was fortunate to have my prior experience, to say "Fix it all, I trust you." Let's face it - in today's world that just doesn't happen anymore. Another thing that doesn't happen is the owner of the business telling you that he saw something (with an open checkbook to do whatever he wants) and telling you that it is absolutely unnecessary to perform $3k worth of work. More uncommon: the owner dragging you into the work garage with the mechanic (Andy) and giving you a "soup to nuts" lesson on the work being done and explaining my engine at an elementary level. The passion for doing excellent work - perfect work, is SO evident. I never felt stupid even though I am when it comes to cars and I walked out regretting I didn't pay more attention to dad trying to teach me the same things too many years ago. I'll never forget the "interview" I got when I pulled in the first day. I had the initial impression Callas cares and if I didn't care too they wouldn't work for me either. Earlier, I was in a financial predicament and their team jumped over the moon to help me, trusting me, on a limb, to do the right thing for my car with their work's name on it. Later, they stood behind their work, nearly desperately, when a CV joint showed some normal wear. Driving my car home today after what they did was, honestly, better then day 1. The oil plug hole was stripped on my 2015 M3. It's a pretty common problem. Callas was able to install a Time-Sert repair kit. Now it's better than new because the Time-Sert threads are steal not aluminum. read more

My wife and I took her Boxster here after getting several very expensive quotes elsewhere and asked. The rearview mirror had come loose from the windshield. The dealership near us insisted the only way to fix it was to replace both the windshield and the rearview mirror, which were sold together for over $2,000 with installation. We later talked to the parts department at the same dealership and were told they were only sold separately. One glass place gave us the same story about having to buy a new windshield and mirror. Another one thought they could fix it, but wanted us to buy a new rearview mirror in case it broke in the process (and return it if not needed). Just the restocking fee for returning a rearview mirror was pretty expensive. We then remembered Callas Rennsport, which our neighbor had recommended. We took it in and Tom, the manager, and John, the chief mechanic, patiently listened to our story and went over the options. John meticulously disassembled it so that the connector could be reglued to the windshield and we could drive the car without the mirror dangling (he later also fixed a problem that one of the other shops had created). We then brought it back and they had their glass company glue it securely and then John reassembled it. All for a small fraction of the price the dealer wanted to charge. We also spoke to Tom about how years ago the tire pressure monitoring system stopped working and the dealer wanted, as we recall, a couple thousand dollars to replace the monitors. Tom explained that each tire has a battery in the monitor and it may be that all they need are new batteries. We'll be taking the car back there soon to find out if they can again fix it for a small fraction of the price that the dealer was charging. read more

Great shop. Took my 1972 Porsche 914 here (the first time I have ever let anyone else work on it). Tony quoted me exactly what it would cost to diagnose my problem and stuck to it. I had my car towed in the morning and drove it home that night. I got out for $320 with a new ignition coil and the car seemed to be running more smoothly as well. My car is a daily driver and has a lot of issues, and Tony kindly wrote down all of the things that may need to be done in the future but didn't once try to sell me on anything more than what I asked for. read more
