I had eaten at the other two locations and had always enjoyed the foods. I was in charge of picking up lunch for a party of thee and decided to give it a go at this location. I ordered large shrimp poboy, large catfish poboy, and house fried rice to share. The house fried rice contained sausage which one member did not like. The nice counter lady said she can substitute chicken without additional charge. The fried sea foods of the poboys were expertly seasoned and fried, absolutely delicious. The fried rice was as good as any Chinese restaurant. A minor negative was the catfish fillet could be a little thicker. Counter help was friendly and helpful. Prices were appropriate for the location and quality of foods. I don't mind returning.

Excellent food with friendly service and a great price. After an event at the nearby NRG stadium we headed here for dinner. It well exceeded my expectations. We got the suicide shrimp box, small mixed gumbo, side of vegetables and Cajun fries. Everything was delicious, especially the gumbo and the shrimp. I'll definitely put this on my list of places to return to.

Hands down one of the best seafood spots I've been to in a while! The catfish was perfectly seasoned and fried to golden perfection -- crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside. But the real star of the show was the NOLA sauce paired with the fried rice. I don't know what kind of magic they put in that sauce, but it brought the whole dish to life. Every bite had that bold, buttery, Cajun flavor that hits just right. The staff was friendly and the service was quick even though the place was busy. You can tell they take pride in their food. If you're a fan of Southern seafood or just love good flavors, this place is a must-try. Can't wait to come back!

    Turkey Neck Cravin Box

Visited the new Main Street location and was thrilled to see the same great quality as the other spots! The poboys remain a favorite especially the fried shrimp and the gumbo tastes homemade full of comfort and flavor. I also tried the turkey neck Cravin Box and it was incredible! Just rich, seasoned perfectly and the meat fell right off the bone. I also sampled a few of their daiquiri flavors and they were all spot on especially the margarita! I'll definitely be back whenever I'm nearby!

Love the food here! I got the Po boy and it was delicious! Never really got into Po boys but this place really made a difference for me. Really good service too!

They had some kind of special going on and honestly everything on the menu sounded amazing, so I went for it and spent about $100 on a spread for me and my mom. The calamari was fresh, crunchy, and really good. The crab fingers were a little on the salty side and smaller than the photos suggest, but still delicious. The shrimp were good overall, though a few were not cleaned properly so I had to toss those. The stuffed catfish was the absolute star of the show, so tender, so flavorful, not overly salted at all. It was exactly what I had been hoping to find all weekend. The scallops were the one miss, coming out rubbery, so I probably would not order those again. The food absolutely deserves five stars, but I am leaving four because of the service when I went in to pick up the order. I was simply asking a question about my meal and the worker seemed to think I was rushing him. The way he communicated that the food was not ready yet was not acceptable, and that interaction left a sour note on an otherwise great experience. That said, out of everything we spent that weekend going from place to place without much satisfaction, this was hands down the best $100 I spent. I would absolutely recommend Captain Benny's for the food.

It was nice and clean and tasted really good. The restaurant was packed with a lot of out of towners and families. We were seated quickly and served quickly. Our waiter was very sweet and attentive. I only gave 4 stars because there was a waitress who was in the restroom when i was in there. She came out of her stall after i came out of mine and another young lady exited hers... she stood behind us fixing her hair, (we thought she was waiting for her turn to use the sink), she sneezed in her hand and walked out the bathroom. The other young lady at the sink asked me if i witnessed her not washing her hands and i stated yes, but im heading out right now. When we walked out, the waitress was already waiting on another table. I waived down one of the waitresses to let her know someone should have a conversation with her, but coincidentally, the same woman in the restroom washing her hands had already informed her. Thankfully that waitress went to alert the manager on duty but just know, that was very disgusting and i hope something was done about that. Other than that, good time at pappadeaux!

On my most recent visit we ordered mapo tofu with pork intestines off the specials menu - a hybrid of two of my favorite Sichuan-style dishes. The blend of bouncy, savory morsels amidst tender, saucy tofu was at once revolutionary and so obvious; why hadn't I yet seen this at any other restaurant? And sure, innards may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's important for you to know that none of my past orders from the 50+ item menu have ever failed me, whether enjoyed in the restaurant or at home. Maybe you'd prefer the aromatic, classic, perfectly balanced three-cup chicken? Or the sweet-skinned duck, glazed so delicately that specks of sugar crystal threaten to jump off onto the plate as you pick up a juicy slice with your chopsticks? And if you're vegetarian, might you consider the punchy garlic eggplant or the wok-kissed string beans? I could go on. Do yourself a favor and come see for yourself, though I'd recommend parallel parking on the neighborhood streets behind the restaurant rather than the rocky parking lot, to save you some trouble. Bring friends and chow down family style - you'll need help covering as much of the menu as you can, but you'll definitely have to come back to try everything.

Situated directly across the street from NRG Stadium along Kirby, it's ideally placed to capture the slice of tourists and locals. Considering the wide selection of Japanese-inspired fare, the potential is there -- but unfortunately, the food is both overpriced and mediocre, much like their predecessor (#2). Things I appreciated: * Interior: I am fairly confident that one could show up with 20 people from a football game across the street and find a seat. There's enough seating in here to house an army and they've done a good job with the ambiance to keep the appearance of a faux-premium vibe. * Service: While they were generally slow on a few things, most of the staff members I've encountered were super pleasant and very transparent about what / what not to order. I appreciated this immensely. * Yakitori: No exaggeration, this is one of the better AYCE yakitori experiences I've had. The chicken and beef yakitori combos (#3) had great presentation, were juicy, and full of flavor. This was the only item where I wanted multiple orders. Things that are not great: * The price: This. My first time coming here it was $31 (Or ... $30.99), but the last time was $50. With that kind of a steep hike, you'd think they'd offer uni, toro, and some kind of premium yakitori, but too hard to justify considering their lineup of food and drink. * The name: Previously, it was simply "Taro Japanese Restaurant." As of earlier this year, it has become "Taro VIP BBQ SEAFOOD HOTPOT & BAR." * The drinks: I'm stoked they have an alcohol license and can serve wine, beer, and cocktails. But the cocktails are on another level bad. The Mexican Mule ($14.50) was too tinge too sour, the Taro Red ($14.50), Blue Hawaii ($13.50) and Tokyo Rose ($13.50) are way too sweet. Even the powdered milk teas and fruit teas felt very generic. * The sushi: I can handle low quality sushi, but there was some level of funk for almost all the salmon, tuna, and yellowtail that I ordered. It was masked a bit better in the rolls, but at some point, I couldn't order anymore. * The ramen: While I think offering any kind of ramen is a plus in the AYCE scenario, the ramen here is understandably mid. All of the tonkotsu choices are the best bet, but this is a hard pass for even folks that love noodle soup. * The spelling: While I'm typically forgiving of most menu mishaps, the fact one is being charged $50 and they can't seem to spell shoyu, fried, tartare, etc. correctly is kind of mind blowing. * Most of their baked sushi items: This includes their tataki, baby octopus, mussels, ankimo, and tartare. This is likely due to the seafood quality issue that I had alluded to earlier. * The crawfish: Skip. Don't bother ordering, even if it's peak crawifsh season since it tastes like something more from a Chinese buffet than anything resembling the kinds of crawdads from Louisiana. For a place that boasts being run by culinary graduates trained under a famous Japanese chef (#5), it's incredibly disappointing to such such variety paired with such flawed execution. One could argue Taro is more style than substance, but I hope they find a way to correct their course. ____________ (#1) All you can eat Japanese restaurant where everyone speaks Mandarin. (#2) Akashi: https://www.yelp.com/biz/akashi-houston-7 (#3) Calling all carnivores: This is your moment. (#4) "Shyoyu" "Fired" "Tartar" (#5) Takeshi Kaneko? Okay then.
