Nice little spot near NRG. Very clean with some seating. The prices are very reasonable and fair. The workers are kind and happy to help. The po-boys were Huge. I got a size Large. I love a good oyster po-boy, but it is hard finding one that is reasonably prices. And with ACTUAL po-boy bread rather than sandwich bread. A place like this is hard to come-by with a true New Orleans touch and even name (Calliope). This is officially my go-to spot for oyster po-boy. I do like my po-boys drenched so I will have to ask for extra sauce next time. Calliop's is close to NRG Stadium, across from Shipley's Do-Nuts on S. Main at Murworth. I am a first time diner. I opened my Yelp! App to find a new place to eat with no real feelings toward any particular place. Landed on Calliope's page and read the reviews. Looked good to me so I headed there. Restaurant is on the end cap of a strip plaza. Has a drive-thru as well (pleasantly surprised to see that on my way out). Parking is ample as most businesses were not open on a Saturday after 4p. Parked right in front. Dining room has about 6 tables for up to 4 people each, as well as two Hi-Top tables with seating for two each. Counter has 40" TV screens with the entire menu on them right above the cashier station. Menu cycles through pics of a few food offerings as well. Came because of the review suggestion of the Boudin egg rolls and the Suicide Shrimp Boiling Pot. Ordered both from the nice cashier who explained the entire menu, best sellers and offered modifications to the rice as well. After I paid for the order, was given a disc pager and took a seat. Dining room was clean and well lit. Waited about 15 minutes and the cashier motioned to me that my order was ready. She explained that the boiling pot sauce was placed on the side so the shrimp wouldn't be soggy and explained the other sauces that were included in my order, which were the boudin remoulade and the boiling pot garlic butter. I paid about $28 for the appetizer and main entree. They offer sliced cake, bottled flavored punches and Coke product fountain drinks, as well. It took me about 30 min to make it home and the food was still hot. The shrimp are small to medium in size; the fried rice comes with scrambled eggs, carrots, peas and onions (which I had removed). Boiling pot comes with one potato and a mini ear of corn with a boiled egg. Think: shrimp boil deconstructed. The sauce was mild flavor {offerings are Regular (no spice), Mild (medium spice) and Extra (chili sauce based spice)}. The sauce on the rice and shrimp were flavorful but I found even the mild to be too spicy for my taste (have acid reflux, so I actively avoid spicy foods). The rice was good (I added extra scrambled eggs, additional fee) and the plate is more than enough for two people. The egg rolls have cream cheese inside. Though not my taste, my roommate enjoyed it with the remoulade it comes with. Overall, between the cleanliness of the location, the service of the staff, the portion size, and value for money, I will be back to sample other items from the menu. read more

Went on a Monday late afternoon to pick up some food because I was craving seafood. I ordered the suicide shrimp box and the grilled fish po'boy. Honestly, the po'boy slapped. The bread wasn't as crusty as I expected, which I was actually happy about. That said, you do need to eat it pretty soon as the mayo and toppings make the bread soggy fairly fast. The suicide shrimp box was easily two meals for me (mainly because of the rice quantity). I loved whatever sauces they included in the box- because everyone needs extra butter, right? No but actually, it wasn't just plain melted butter... it was super creamy. I was dipping my rice in it, lol. I was also happy to see an egg included in the box. Most places only include corn and potato, and the egg is usually extra. Although this probably isn't their best location, the employees were all polite and working efficiently. I had eaten at the other two locations and had always enjoyed the foods. I was in charge of picking up lunch for a party of thee and decided to give it a go at this location. I ordered large shrimp poboy, large catfish poboy, and house fried rice to share. The house fried rice contained sausage which one member did not like. The nice counter lady said she can substitute chicken without additional charge. The fried sea foods of the poboys were expertly seasoned and fried, absolutely delicious. The fried rice was as good as any Chinese restaurant. A minor negative was the catfish fillet could be a little thicker. Counter help was friendly and helpful. Prices were appropriate for the location and quality of foods. I don't mind returning. read more

Excellent food with friendly service and a great price. After an event at the nearby NRG stadium we headed here for dinner. It well exceeded my expectations. We got the suicide shrimp box, small mixed gumbo, side of vegetables and Cajun fries. Everything was delicious, especially the gumbo and the shrimp. I am on a quest to find the best fried shrimp in the country. So far, it's Doc's in Orange Beach, AL. I was very excited to see Calliopes open very close to home! I was a little underwhelmed. The breading was nothing special. I did a drive through pickup for my fried shrimp so I never saw the inside. The person at the window was super sweet and accommodated all of my many questions. The fried shrimp was just ok. It was still piping hot when I arrived home so I don't think it was the travel that made it any less yummy. Maybe I do need to try it by dining in to see if that changes my opinion. read more

Hands down one of the best seafood spots I've been to in a while! The catfish was perfectly seasoned and fried to golden perfection -- crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside. But the real star of the show was the NOLA sauce paired with the fried rice. I don't know what kind of magic they put in that sauce, but it brought the whole dish to life. Every bite had that bold, buttery, Cajun flavor that hits just right. The staff was friendly and the service was quick even though the place was busy. You can tell they take pride in their food. This was my first time here and I really loved the atmosphere -- it's bright and very clean. The menu has a great variety of dishes, and the food is delicious. Today I had the wings with vegetables on the side, which really impressed me. I usually just get wings, so this is the first place I've seen that offers veggies on the side -- definitely a big plus! My husband and I ordered the boudin balls, grilled fish, lemon pepper wings, and fries. I specifically asked for the wings to be fried hard, but none of the fried items were actually crispy. The fries were barely cooked and very soggy, like they were put into oil that wasn't hot enough and then pulled out too soon. The food overall just didn't seem properly fried, which is unfortunate because the boudin balls and the wings had the potential to be good . The Nola sauce was the only saving grace to the meal. Visited the new Main Street location and was thrilled to see the same great quality as the other spots! The poboys remain a favorite especially the fried shrimp and the gumbo tastes homemade full of comfort and flavor. I also tried the turkey neck Cravin Box and it was incredible! Just rich, seasoned perfectly and the meat fell right off the bone. I also sampled a few of their daiquiri flavors and they were all spot on especially the margarita! Do not look at the fake reviews from friends or people they invited to review. Just responding to the owners message. First off I want to say that I've reviewed a lot of places in Houston, but mostly seafood because it's my favorite. So I'm not just some person commenting who doesn't know why they're talking about. I didn't want to completely blast you, but since you mentioned the Catfish Fillets vs the nuggets, i want to mentioned my gf tried the Fillets and it wasn't as generic as the nuggets, but the seasoning definitely wasn't up to par. She left unsatisfied. Regardless, just bc it's the kids meal doesn't mean it's supposed to be gross. Kids deserve good food too. The Nola Sauce: I specifically asked for the special sauce that goes with your seafood boil. But regardless, even if it was for rice, it still wouldn't have satisfied me. Lacks flavor, tastes like a knockoff version of bayou seafoods smack butter. As for the daiquiris, I'm very happy i didn't spend $25 there, especially just for that. Like i said, the daiquiris tasted like water and liquor. No flavor at all. You can go across the street and get a better daiquiri than that. While we were speaking about it to each other, a couple next to us chimed in and agreed. we didn't ask their opinion, but the daiquiri was that bad for them to say that us and they each got 2 different flavors. So excited for the newest location of Calliope's, literally 2 miles from the house and conveniently located next to NRG. I've been eating at Calliope's since the OG location in EaDo and have been telling anyone who will listen that they have the best po-boy outside of New Orleans I've ever tasted. The fried shrimp is the one to get IMHO- lightly battered, crispy and you can actually taste the shrimp. But don't sleep on the roast beef, oyster, or catfish. Few nights ago went to the soft opening- wow, beautiful build out and super nice staff. Ordered way too much but it was solid all the way around- seafood boil with king crab, shrimp, potato/corn, fried rice, tenders (kids), shrimp po-boy, gumbo. My oldest daughter gave the boil high marks and it had a ton of flavor (garlic butter), seafood cooked just right. Gumbo was excellent- loved the okra ! The kids loved the tenders (plain and garlic parm) and the veggie fried rice was fire, like the cool kids say. They even let us try the catfish which was very good- lightly battered, fried perfectly. We made a spontaneous stop for dinner while heading home from the medical center. The place has a bright, clean, modern vibe. Jada at the counter was friendly and helpful with suggestions. We ordered the boudin egg rolls for appetizer and let's just say our party of 3 agreed we'd drive 40 minutes just to have those again! For mains, we tried the roast beef po' boy, surf and turf po' boy, and a seafood basket. All solid choices! The po' boys were tasty with the good bread (because that makes or breaks a good po boy)! The roast beef gravy was delicious, but it's messy so grab extra napkins . The seafood basket was crispy goodness of a shrimp, oysters, catfish, and those homemade onion rings were made just right - you know when they stay together and seasoned just right, not greasy or too salty. Prices were super reasonable, especially for the generous portions. We're already looking forward to stopping by again the next time we're in the area.
