It's been too long since I last ate here so I met some friends for lunch recently. It was their first time at Fountain View and I hoped it was still a good place to dine. I was right! Nothing really has changed over the years except the prices are higher. However they are still reasonable. We were fortunate to get a table for 3 as it gets crowded during lunchtime but then many people get their food to go, At the counter I ordered the 2 fish and 6 shrimp meal for $15. It came with 2 sides. One was cole slaw and I asked for hush puppies rather than fries for the other. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that my iced tea was included. Yes, this is an affordable place to dine. My 2 Swai fillets and shrimp were well battered and tasty. You can also get catfish and redfish for an up charge. The hush puppies were large and hot and made this a satisfying and filling meal. Fountain View Fish Market serves very good tasting seafood from a simple menu and at low prices. It's been so hard finding really great and fresh fish! I stumbled upon this market. Service: 3 I was not greeted upon walking in and I had to say hello. The cashier, lol gave the impression he was ready to go. Not sure if he's the owner but he is definitely not a conversationalist. lol. He did however, bring my bag to me. :/ Ambiance: it seems clean and everyone is working in concert to push out the fries and fish. Definitely a hot spot as I saw multiple people coming in and out. The price point is great and they make the tea and lemonade in house. The Cole Slaw was good- not too sweet or tart. The fish could be a little more seasoned. Best fish sandwich I've had thus far! I placed my order over the phone. The gentleman who answered the phone was kind, and thorough with taking my order. I arrived about 15 minutes later, paid for my food and it was already packaged and ready to go. I was provided a drink cup and chose to get their flavored tea. The market is very small, but they have a few tables if you'd like to dine in. Also, the market side has fresh seafood for purchase. Parking lot is also very small. The tea was delish! The fish sandwich was hefty, crispy, freshly made, and flavorful. This was my first time trying soft shell crab, it was "fishy" but perfectly fried. The fried fish was also well prepared! My wife and I enjoyed a couple six medium fried shrimp specials. They come with two sides. She picked french fries and hush puppies and I went with french fies and cole slaw. We sampled each others and loved it all. The cole slaw was just right, not to sweet and fresh, fries were crisp and tasty, the hush puppies hit the ever widening spot. After seeing this restaurant on the series, Eat Like A Local with Chris Shepherd, we decided to give it a try. We weren't the only customers who saw the show and decided to try it. I am so glad that we did because the food was awesome! We tried the fried flounder(special of the day) and shrimp plates. All plates come with two sides and a complimentary tea or lemonade. The beverages are self served so I decided to mix them(delicious Arnold Palmer). We chose french fries, hush puppies, and a veggie eggroll as our sides. Also, we had the fried crab fingers and onion rings. Everything was extremely fresh and fried to golden perfection! Most notably the food wasn't greasy at all which says a lot about their frying technique! The flounder was light and crispy. The shrimp were the best that I have eaten in the city. The hush puppies were also the best that I have ever had. The crab fingers were awesome! The service was excellent! Food came out quickly even with there being a fair amount of people waiting to order. The staff were very nice and helpful. The lady at the front was incredibly friendly and patient with customers. The staff made sure that we had everything that we needed including condiments. Top notch service. The ambiance in the restaurant was very lively but in a peaceful way. The restaurant itself is very small like a dive which I love! It has about six tables which was fine with us because most people were getting togo orders. We enjoyed eating inside the restaurant! The market section has an assortment of fresh fish and seafood for customers who would prefer to cook at home. A great fresh local Houston seafood restaurant. If you're looking for a great fried seafood restaurant, this is the best place to go simple restaurant. Looking at the menu, you can choose between fish, shrimp, oysters, and more. I got the two piece fish along with a six piece shrimp and a double order of coleslaw. The meal also comes with four containers of tartar sauce. For those that order, you can also substitute fries instead of coleslaw. Love the crispy crunchy batter on the shrimp, but I will say that the shrimp tasted slightly bland. I can tell the shrimp was fresh because it has a firmness to the meat, but I just didn't have a bunch of flavor when I tried it. It was more all batter. The tartar sauce is great not as Ziggy as other tartar sauces it's a little bit more mayo tame. The whitefish which I assume is tilapia or swai, is better than the shrimp. Flaky white meat, fried awesome flavor. The coleslaw is good nice fresh vegetables. I think it has a little bit too much mayo and not enough salt or vinegar. The coleslaw definitely has a mayo flavor. Overall great experience happy that I got a complementary iced tea to try. I think what would make the dish over the top would be maybe add a few slices of lemon wedges and maybe seasoning salt on the top of the shrimp and fish . OMG...I'm from Jersey and did not know what to expect out here. But I'm observing lent and yesterday was Friday, so I agreed to eat fish on this day. I ordered the fried catfish sandwich and even a side of catfish because I was starving and used to not getting enough in Jersey. Holy sh*t...I should not have gotten the extra catfish. This sandwich could barely fit the fish they put in it! I was full from 3 bites! Plus, they put it on a potato bun and not some flimsy no frills sliced bread that's falling apart before you even pick it up. Plus, they were busy and I still got served quickly. I loved the fountain sweet tea with lemonade. It was so so good. I hope to come back here next year, or maybe even one more time before I leave. I will definitely order again, no doubt. Tried this place after my husband suggested it. I have to say, if it were closer to my job, I would be there at least twice per week!! I had the two pieces of fish with six shrimp combo and it left my mouth watering. The combo comes with two sides also. I had the chicken egg rolls. They were AMAZING!! I love that they make the food fresh right after you order it. It's a small space, but it feels bigger once you're inside. I feel like it's a neighborhood gem and I wish there were more places like this in the city. The service was great! We did not wait long for our food and they brought it out to our table. They have all of the sauces you need there in the fridge. They also have fresh seafood there to purchase if you want to cook it yourself at home. This place is such a hole-in-the-wall and I love it! I was looking for a place that sells good seafood dishes for Friday lent and now I have found a great place to enjoy close to my work place in general! Its about 15 minutes from my office which is great and they're quick with the order. I came up and the parking lot was not too busy but inside it looked like there were about 3 people waiting for their food before me. I ordered their fried fish platter with 3 shrimp and got tartar sauce and hot sauce with it which was great! The guy at the counter also gave me a cup to try their in-house drink which I could take to-go and I enjoyed it as well! I have been a customer of this fish market for more than 12 years under the previous owner and never experienced any issues. Unfortunately, my recent interactions under the new ownership have been disappointing. During a recent visit, I purchased an item that was represented as fried cod. When I got home, I realized it was actually a minced cod mixture with other ingredients, which was not what I expected or what I had previously received from this establishment. The following day, I returned to inform the owner of the misunderstanding. She prepared a different dish of comparable price, but did so with a noticeable attitude that made the interaction uncomfortable. Two days later, I returned to purchase dinner again. After the cashier took my order and I was about to pay, the owner came out and abruptly pointed to a sign posted in the store that read "No Refunds." I explained that my previous visit was not about requesting a refund but about an item that had been misrepresented. Despite this, she repeated the policy again in a curt manner. I acknowledged that I had already heard her the first time and that repeating it was unnecessary. At that point, she responded in a rude and unprofessional way, stating that if I did not like it, I could leave. Given the tone of the interaction, I chose to do exactly that. It is unfortunate to see such a long-standing neighborhood gem decline under new management. In addition to the change in customer service, the overall quality of the food has diminished, and the storefront is now covered with numerous signs that detract from the welcoming atmosphere the market once had. Based on my recent experiences, I can no longer recommend this establishment. Long-time customers who value quality food and respectful customer service may want to consider other options. read more

As a kid, I went to visit relatives in the greater Houston area and Gulf Coast. Because of their association with the ports my late grandmother and relatives always had connections for the freshest Gulf Shrimp, especially the jumbo type. So juicy and fresh they were like oysters and I could taste the source water, unlike the previously frozen shrimp at local markets. Anyhow, my trip to Texas had a few bucket list items and surprisingly, BBQ didn't top the priorities. As you might guess, it was a hankering for jumbo shrimp, and I found this market on Yelp. The pictures were all the evidence I needed to make going there top priority, except I was going to have to walk since no car was available. No biggie, along the way (some 1.5 miles or so) I got a load of that part of Houston. Finally, I was at the door and it was almost full! A couple Postal workers were diving into their plates,several guests were waiting for to-go orders, and I grabbed the smallest table to wait for my order, that the current owner helped me customize. The #16 normally comes with 12 shrimp and three pieces of fish, with two sides. Upgrading to jumbo shrimp adds to the cost, but was it worth it? Hell yeah! I was slightly disappointed they didn't have Cajun Rice, Jambalaya, or even Macncheese, but coleslaw and seasoned fries proved sufficient. I didn't have to wait long either, sometimes these sort of fish-fry joints are painfully slow to fulfill orders but not here. The food was beautiful, really. Perfectly fried, perfectly breaded, and plentiful. All I needed was lemon juice and Ketchup, which they had in the refrigerator with beverages. I think I used most of the juice in the lemon-shaped bottle. The owner checked on me after a few minutes, which I appreciated, and I overheard him telling a customer he's the third owner in the market's 41+ year history. No wonder the food has a diverse local and apparently loyal customer base. The walk back was longer, so roughly four miles altogether seemed like a good balance for excellent, nay, exceptional fried shrimp. Why not 5 stars? It is, in principle, but as prefaced above, I would like to have seen more sides available, especially in the rice department. If I return to Houston anytime soon I'm definitely coming back though. I told my cousin, a lifelong Houston resident, that this place was well-worth visiting. read more

The prices on here need to be updated. They are like $5 lower than what they are at the restaurant . I got the shrimp basket with what they consider medium shrimp and to say I'm shocked would be an understatement. 3 stars because the flavor was good but the size and texture were deceptive. Chewy tiny shrimp called "medium"...the fries were hard. Crunchy coating on the shrimp which is ok but the actual shrimp was very tough like chewing a tire. Do urself a favor and get jumbo or large bcx this medium was absolutely RIDICULOUS. It was SO dried out like you wouldn't believe. I've never eaten fried shrimp this dry before. It was like jerky.
