Dr. Cally Adams is amazing! She is thorough and determined with her work. She's done intense work on my youngest son (4 years old, teeth extractions and fillings). I appreciate her work ethics and discipline on the kids/parents! We relocated to the mainland and I brought my kids to a new dentist and they complimented numerous times on how expertly their dental work were! Our experience with this pediatric dental practice was extremely disappointing, and I cannot recommend it--especially to families with children who have special needs. Before the appointment, I was informed that the recommended treatment included nitrous oxide (laughing gas). Due to financial hardship, I explained that I could not afford the additional cost and asked if my son could receive treatment without it. I was told that he would not be treated unless nitrous oxide was used. My son has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and I offered to remain in the treatment room to help comfort and support him during the procedure. I explained that I know my child best and believed my presence would help him feel safe and cooperative. However, I was told that parents are not allowed in the treatment room because, in the provider's experience, parents make procedures more difficult. Despite explaining my son's special needs, no accommodation was offered, and treatment was ultimately denied. As a parent of a child with ASD, this was heartbreaking. Children with disabilities often need additional support, patience, and flexibility. Instead, I felt dismissed and unheard. Rather than working with us to find a solution, the conversation felt centered on what would be easiest for her practice rather than what was in my child's best interest. Every child is different, and every family deserves to be treated with compassion and respect. Policies are important, but there should also be room for individualized care when treating children with special needs. I left feeling that our concerns were not valued and that our circumstances were viewed as an inconvenience rather than an opportunity to provide patient-centered care. I should've went with my gut and trusted the low reviews before booking. Parents strongly urge you to find another practice on Maui that can work with you if finances are the only reason you have to come to Cally. If your child needs extra reassurance, has special needs, or you value being involved in your child's care, I encourage you to ask detailed questions about the practice's policies before scheduling an appointment. I don't know how this women got her pediatric dentist license . She has no patience and compassion for kids whatsoever. Negativity radiates from her as soon as you get into office . People who hates their life definitely shouldn't be child doctor . I recommend therapy for her . She forced laughing gas on my 6 yo and refused service when I didn't accept laughing gas but Only numbing solution and needle to numb . Hope Maui spits her out soon . Gross human being . Ok so I have not been to this dentist in around 10 years or longer and I'm now 21 years old but Dr. Adams has genuinely stuck in my mind for that long. Not in a good way. Many people praise her for her "hard attitude" but I remember being so ashamed and bullied here. She said I had "old people's teeth" as a child, it was my fault my teeth were so bad, and my teeth are all going to fall out. She didn't really consider that maybe an adult should've taught me how to clean my teeth better. They all laughed at me there and I would just stand there silent with tears in my eyes. I would beg my mom to change my dentist and literally had nightmares going there again. The staff there are very friendly though, just the doctor can be very mean to children who have cleaning issues. Thinking about it still makes me anxious to go to the dentist this day. read more

Zero star rating. My special needs daughter has been seeing Adams over the years with full Quest insurance. She's 11 and had her recent dental cleaning in August 2021. Today 10/12 she cracked a molar and I called to seek emergency assistance. This family practice informed me that my child (since last month, and currently still 11 years old) has AGED out of their practice and will not help her. What kind of family dentist would deny emergency service to a minor?? Even within a transition to seek a new family dentist, what kind of business is this to deny emergency service to a child you have been treating as a patient for YEARS? Do not support this practice, from a mother of a special needs child DO NOT bring your child to this establishment. They do not care about you or your family. read more

If you are opposed to fluoride treatments during routine cleanings I suggest you find a different dentist. I was very clear in my initial paperwork that we did NOT want fluoride treatments. Every time we came back they attempted to confirm upon check-in that we were here for a cleaning AND fluoride application. I think I had taken my then 5 year old daughter in twice and her father took her in twice so I am speaking for us both but we reminded them that we do not want the fluoride and they acknowledged understanding. After the 4th visit in 2 years I asked my daughter if she wanted an apple to snack on after her appt. She said she couldn't eat for a couple hours and I asked her why not? She said because they put something on her teeth and told her not to eat for a while. I looked closer and saw her mouth foaming and immediately called the office. They put me on hold for a very long time and finally came back to tell me that she had a fluoride application (in spite of being very clear upon check-in that we do not want it) AND has received it EVERY VISIT!! Horrible woman at the front desk. Incredibly rude. Doesn't allow a parent to enter with a toddler to make the toddler comfortable at the already scarry to a child dentist. What kind of patent leaves their small child unattended anywhere, especially in a situation like that. Never take your child here if you care about your child. read more

I'm a busy daddy. I have 2 boys that go to Dr. Adams. My wife and I was there when we overheard some of the other parents saying that Dr. Adams is a hard ass. She'll pull parents in and tell them off about the horrendous conditions their child's teeth are. I've never been pulled aside because my boys teeth are near to perfect. I've seen others in there and it's sad. I'm glad she's a hard ass. She's there for our kids. She speaks up for them and their smiles. read more

My son has been going to Cally Adams for maybe 3-5 years mostly for check ups she's done maybe 3-5 cavities I haven't had much issues with her until today. Today's check up was suppose to be at 9 at my mistake I totally forgot I live about 45 mins away so I called an hour before asking if I can reschedule, this is the first time I ever remember doing this to them but then got told she'll have to ask the dr if they'll ever be able to schedule both my son and daughter who only gets exams at the same time again so I said Um ok... she tells me bring my son in at 1. So I Took the 1 o'clock, upon check in the front desk tells me he's getting a full check up exam xrays and cleaning . So at the end the dental assistant brings my son out and tells me he has to have 4 cavities filled, and a sealant done. Not once today did I seen an X-ray or the dentist, usually she does have a weird chair side X-ray which is fast and not detailed but today was it for me. I just have heard so many bad reviews about her but always said my children don't complain so I've never paid attention to comments but I am now going to get a second opinion before taking my son back to get any work. Update: I got a calendar iPhone notification that my son had his apt but it's weird usually I'll get a confirmation call which I was planning to cancel at that time bc I still haven't been able to see another dentist for the second opinion. So when the notification popped up I called the office to let them know we didn't get a confirmation call and I would like to cancel. The receptionist quickly put me on hold and said the dr took him off the schedule and would like to speak with me (automatically I knew it would be over this review). She then goes on to tell me how I wasn't in the office at the time my son was getting his exam, funny how that works bc when I first came yes I was in the car taking care of two babies, but I then came in only 10-15 mins later with both babies after my son went in for his cleaning. So unless all of his xrays exam cleaning and fluoride only took 15 mins then yes I was in the car when they called me but they didn't bring my son out of the room after another 30 mins of me actually sitting in the office making the whole total of the visit 45 mins at the least, which I was ok with but don't insinuate I'm lying and that I was never in the office and that's why I was never shown xrays or talked to by the dentist. Need I remind this is the phone conversation I am having is with the dentist herself Dr. Cally Adams telling me she's not down with the "mama drama" and my review saying the truth of me being unhappy with my son's latest apt. And need I remind you I didn't come on google to write the review on my own they send out a text asking for a review. So I gave my honest review and she had a problem with it, it was the most unprofessional conversation I've ever had with a dr! Need I remind you I've been through surgery twice, my son has been through surgery, as well as the simple fact of me having two children, so you could imagine the amount of drs I've spoke to, as well as many health care professionals, and never have I had a phone conversation like the one I just had. If they or I have ever had a problem it was well taken cared of in a professional manner and I have never had to explain to any of those healthcare professionals how to speak to a patient's parent! Or have never had to be the one to cut the conversation before being able to end it on a good accord whether going separate ways or not! If she thought I was unsatisfied and gave a review she didn't like, well I'm excited to see what will happen after this update, probably get a cease and desist letter like the rest of the people who have given her bad reviews in the past! A little late to the review but this is my honest and candid experience I needed some work done on my toddler and our normal dentist was full so we decided to give cally a try. We were optimistic because she claimed to specialize in pediatric dentistry so we assumed she would do well with children. This was extremely important to us because my son can't speak so we make it a point to seak out health professionals who are empathetic and kind. Cally was not. She was mean, rude, and seemed annoyed that my child was being a child. After explaining in length my son doesn't speak so he often expresses him self by crying but if you talk to him and include him in whats happening he listens. Even after this lengthy conversation she still told me that my child is "a little old to be crying like this" and did not acknowledge or try to implement what I said. And at the end of the appointment she complained about his behavior and canceled all other appointments to fix my child cavities in the future. We will not be returning to this dentist. Dr. Adams saw our daughter during our Hawaiian vacation. It was an emergency situation that really wasn't but our daughter was in pain. We absolutely loved her office and staff. My daughter is a high anxiety individual when it comes to doctor and dental visits, and she moved fast to get her X-ray done and involved her in the conversation which made her feel at ease. May be a good dentist technically but can't say. My kids and I have always enjoyed our dentists but this dentist's bedside manner and professionalism were unbelievably awful. How a pediatric dentist could be so unkind to a little kid scared at a dental office and so unpleasant to the parent, is beyond me and I would never return to that practice. read more

So we went to our first visit this week and i was so pleased. The staff is courteous and thorough and clear. Dr. Adams was kind and gentle and clear, very warm and caring. My 4 year old went in 2 weeks ago for a check up and his teeth were in horrible shape. (No one to blame but my self) I thought Dr. Adams was great. She saw that my son has anxiety and after the first attempt wasnt successful she didn't force it. We scheduled his dental work for the hospital (like I said horrible shape teeth) and it went well. Every step was explained. Questions answered. We are currently sitting at home and he is showing off his new grill to his nana and friends. Dr. Adams even followed through with a call like she said she would to check in. I was probably more anxious than my child. Thank you for making his dentist experience a good one. read more

If I could give her less stars I would. My son saw her about a year and a half ago and I'm still upset. The waiting area is nice and very kid oriented with lots of toys. That is about the only positive thing at this place. Dr. Adams was not patient with my son and didn't give him time to warm up. She told me to put him on my lap facing me and to put his head on her lap. She instructed me to hold him down and hold his arms and hands. He was screaming and she just did what she wanted and went on with her exam. She didn't take the time to discuss with me about my wishes or values. When I saw her about to put something on my sons teeth that resembled tar I asked her what it was. She responded that it was fluoride but was in a rush to apply it since my son was still on her lap screaming. I said, "I don't think I want him to have that" (since I didn't do my research on it at that point). She said very irritated, "Why not". I said I'm not sure yet. Then she said its good for them and theres nothing wrong with it and then started putting it on my sons teeth. She did wrong by not respecting my wishes and by doing it anyway. Im very upset about this whether or not giving my son the fluoride is the correct thing to do, the bottom line is I said not to and she did it anyway. Another thing is at age 3 she doesn't let parents go back with their child. I would not trust this lady alone with my child. I would not recommend Cally Adams to a friend or an enemy. The office is very kids friendly. The ladies that work the front are very friendly and explain each procedure that will be done. I was a little skeptical when I found out that my son would go behind by himself during the x-ray and cleaning, especially when this was his first visit. When the nurse called my son in, he was a bit scared. However, I was able to go in during the examination. I was told to be quite and stood behind a counter and watched Dr. Adams examine my son.My son was doing great. He didn't cry and was pleased with how his first appointment. Dr. Adams is very honest and blunt. My son had some cavities and it's my fault for not helping my son take better care of his teeth and Dr. Adams called me on it. Explained to me that I was not allowed in the back with child because of her policy and privacy for other patients yet , discusses my child's diagnosis in the room with all the other parents anyway. wheres my privacy? I told my child he was going to get a toy all the way to the dentist. then when he was done cally came out talked very fast explaining all the questions I asked before the procedure that she said she couldnt answer prior the exam. I asked how he did? she said fine. then when he came out he was crying and really upset,,,red marks on face. then he said he did not get a toy,,,I asked the receptionist why he did not get a toy,,,,they said because he cried the whole time and they dont reward crying children. I said he cried because he was scared so your going to punish a scared child,,,,they could not answer so they now said that i was the one upsetting the child. I highly recommend Dr. Cally Adams!!! We were visiting Maui, and my daughter fell and hit her top front teeth on a Sunday night. After my husband and I stabilized our daughter's situation, we searched the web to find a pediatric dentist for our daughter. Dr. Adams' website had valuable information regarding emergencies and advice, which was very helpful. We called her Monday morning and she fit us in the late morning. She took a look at my daughter's teeth, took an X-ray, and was able to give us an accurate and informative diagnosis and recommendations. We really appreciate her service, professionalism, and kindness! I don't really write reviews but felt compelled to do so for Dr. Adams. read more

Cally Adams is a great dentist and gets the job done BUT she has TERRIBLE bedside manners. She slapped my daughter who was crying during a filling and called my son a cry baby. DO NOT use Cally Adams! We live in kihei and thought she would be a good local dentist. We were very wrong! After exams, instead of calling the parent back into the exam room to explain what is going on, she talks to you in the waiting room in front of everyone else. ZERO patient privacy. Then she mumbles what she's planning on doing to your child and quickly disappears into the back. The moment you ask her a question she gets VERY irritated and defensive. She told me my child chipped his tooth and she was going to "put a hat on it". I assumed this meant just fill in the chip. When my child came out of the room his tooth had been completely removed and replaced with a silver tooth almost double the size of his original tooth. The gum looked so inflamed and sore. I COULD NOT believe this had just happened and Cally Adams, the professional had not told me she was going to do this to my child. Please beware, and if you are planning on choosing this dentist just be sure to ASK a lot of questions and demand CLEAR answers. She tends to use weird verbiage when telling you what she is going to do, for example "put a hat on it" means I'm going to completely remove you child's tooth and replace it with a silver one. And REMEMBER...just because she says she needs to do something to your child's mouth, it is 100% up to you if you want that procedure done or not. DO NOT let Cally pressure you into feeling you have to do something. If your gut is telling you something is not right, it's usually correct! Hope this helps! read more

Today I took my daughter for her first dentist appt. She's a very bright almost 2 year old. We had been talking about her dentist visit for 2 weeks. When we got there she was ready to comply and excited to learn about her teeth. We requested no fluoride treatment for our own health concerns. Out of our control was the artificially flavored and colored fluoride toothpaste; that was almost bearable. The office and assisting staff were nice, but Dr. Adams left us with an emotional scar and nothing more. She rushed through my baby's appt., allowed NO time for the necessary establishment of relationship between provider and patient. She came in and dully demonstrated teeth brushing on a toy dinosaur. Then, as I laid my daughter head on her lap, she quickly and roughly forced her way into her mouth until my baby was crying fiercely. Dr. Adams reassured me that "this is normal" but I know that my daughter would have been happily cooperative given the chance. Dr. Adams assumed she would tantrum so devoted no time to making the experience pleasant. Luckily that horror only lasted for a minute or two while she brushed her teeth (and almost put on fluoride regardless of my request- thankfully I was there and attentive enough to stop her). Dr. Adams proceeded to walk out of the room (to return to her other patient she apparently double booked with mine) without giving me any information about my daughters teeth or how I, as a first time parent, can best care for them. I left her office utterly disappointed and still can't get the image of holding my poor baby's hands down for some stranger to brush her teeth, no differently than I do every night. Maybe for older children this dentist is okay but taking my toddler there was a total and complete waste of my time and an extremely unnecessary trauma. I can't even believe she will be getting paid for that visit- she benefited our family in NO way what-so-ever :( One thing I learned: what is "GREAT" for some people may be HORRIBLE for others. read more
