I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I know it's a state run mental and rehabilitation…read morefacility, but it's worse than what you imagine. Let's start with arrival. You have to do the full naked inspection and wear a gown totally nude until someone can bring you clothes. You sleep on a stuffed tarp with a stained sheet with no pillow. The units are coed, but bunks and restrooms are separated by a common room. The place is unsanitary. They mop daily, but don't sweep, the floors are sticky, the chairs are uncomfortable, the showers are moldy, the phones are never cleaned, the rooms are filthy, and while I never saw any rodents I certainly heard them and saw evidence of them. The food was horrendous, cold turkey sandwiches on stale bread was a staple, and it never got much better. Now let's get to the staff. I saw 1 psychiatrist in the 11 days I was there for what was supposed to be a 5 day hold, we had a daily group session which was usually good, I ment my social worker a handful of times (she recommended my release days earlier) she was one of the few bright spots, the panel that was supposed to meet me to approve my release NEVER met with me, the nurses and cleaning staff were on their phones, I saw nurses just fill in previous numbers from blood pressure and heart rate rather than actually taking them, the group counselors were nice but a 1 hour once a day group session doesn't do much, and I saw staff antagonizing some of the more vulnerable patients. To kill time you had limited options. You could play cards with other patients, read the news paper, read out dated terrible books, color, or watch tv. I was lucky to have a group of 4 people to talk to and play cards with. The people ironically were the only thing that kept me sane there. When trying to get to the panel to start my exit plan I was told I was still restricted despite the 1 psychiatrist that I saw saying he recommended my release, and my social worker recommended my release, my family and wife calling and visiting and advocating for me. They keep you there because bodies on the unit mean money. The man who ultimately made the decision for me to leave told me he only did so because he was tired of my wife calling him. I have PTSD from this place. I grip the steering wheel tighter when driving past this place. I feel sorry for any person that ends up there especially those who were extremely vulnerable and in need to real help. Please if you have a relative, friend, or loved one in this facility do everything you can to help get them out.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. We are now preparing to involve legal counsel and contact media outlets regarding…read morethe ongoing situation at Madden Mental Health Facility. My father is being held there against his will, in conditions that are frankly worse than a prison. Despite numerous phone calls and messages over the past week, both my father's explicit requests and our family's formal request to have him transferred have been ignored. Madden staff are refusing to release him, even though we have already arranged for a transfer to another facility that is ready and waiting to accept him. Let me be clear: it is not Madden's legal right to detain him once he has requested to leave and another facility is available. This is not only unethical--it may very well be unlawful. We have been informed that patient transfers supposedly cannot happen over the weekend. If he is not released by the end of today, we will be pursuing legal action for patient abuse and unlawful detainment in a state-run facility. Dr. Lince (Social Worker) and Dr. Sayied (Physician) are the individuals directly responsible for denying our father's request to leave, despite his repeated confirmation that he wishes to transfer and has authorized us to make those arrangements on his behalf. We are speaking out because this is not just about our family--this is about accountability. No one should have to fight this hard to protect their loved one's basic rights.

I needed a therapist with experience in ADHD, anxiety, trauma and divorce, and IFC was a great match. None of the other places I looked at specialize in children and families like IFC does. I was also so grateful that the intake team was able to get us in immediately, as so many other places had waitlists (especially Lurie's...OMG - the waitlist is literally years!!) The therapist we were matched with was such a great fit that I was willing to do whatever it took to make it work scheduling wise, and I am so glad I did. Your child's mental health is worth prioritizing and trust me, the parenting side of the support for you alone is worth moving your/your child's schedule around.

Nancy has a calming, grounding and quiet presence, and she is an expert at creating a healing, welcoming atmosphere. She is flexible with scheduling, and is friendly and unassuming. She does not pressure you to sign up for additional sessions, and welcomes feedback about your experiences during the session. Craniosacral is soothing and restorative--it is not traditional bodywork, so if you're looking for deep tissue massage or chiropractic alignment, look elsewhere. Expect to have your feet, ankles, knees, hipbones, sacrum, low back, collarbones, neck and head lightly touched and sometimes gently manipulated so that Nancy can feel blockages in your body fluid movement and overall energy. For the Akashic reading, Nancy provides interesting insight into your past struggles and current situation. If you're keen on trying a new healing modality, prefer a gentle therapeutic touch, or are simply in need of some super deep relaxation, I'd highly recommend visiting Nancy for craniosacral therapy and an Akashic record reading.

As a man, I found it really difficult to seek help with the relationships in my life. I'm busy and…read morethe last thing I wanted to do was take time out my busy schedule for this. That was how my old self thought. In the process of developing success in my business life, I left a trail of destruction in my romantic and personal life. I came to realize that us super achieving men are usually the ones who need help the most. And the least likely to admit we need help and seek it out. I tried therapy before and found it futile. Most therapists will tell you about all of the credentials they have and I still have no idea what most of it means. The result is I wasted a lot of time with therapists who used the same cookie cutter text book approach without any human element. In some cases, I felt like I had more life experience than the therapist did. It didn't help me and even worse, left me with a sour taste in my mouth about the entire process. It seemed like a lost cause to me. Lesson learned: a bunch of plaques on the wall have nothing to do with how effective a therapist is. At rock bottom, I decided to try Dr. Epstein. It was the genesis of a life changing relationship. I immediately felt unguarded around her. She also asked much different questions and would quickly know where to start digging into my life. In hindsight, that was key in helping me move forward quickly. Her vast life experience is amazing. She is like the Wikipedia of life. I was kind of blown away by how different of an experience working with her is. She is compassionate, deeply insightful and non-judgemental. I don't think she has ever used an acronym. I feel completely comfortable talking with her about anything. At times, I felt like she had a crystal ball into my life because she can quickly tell me what's going on with me and the people close to me. More importantly, she's compassionate at giving me tough love and helping me address the behaviors that hold me back. And bringing awareness to things that I don't see in my own life. I've had a long relationship with Dr. Epstein. In the beginning, we spent a lot of time working on the core things that held me back, which is pretty much so the adult child of an alcoholic laundry list. I was an uptight mess. She gently convinced me to try things that I never thought possible. Because of it, my personal life and business life fulfillment is exponentially higher. She helped me cultivate the positive behaviors in my life while letting go of the self limiting paradigms and behaviors. I didn't realize how profoundly the self-defeating behaviors that affected my personal life also affected my business life. Addressing these behaviors helped me move my business life forward by exponential levels. I went from working 70 hours a week when I met her to working 30-35 hours a week now with a team of great employees. My income has also increased by multiples. Getting off the work treadmill has allowed me to pursue some other muse business opportunities and passions that are on my bucket list. Over the years, I've dropped in to see her when I've hit rough patches in relationships. She never fails to amaze me. She is without question the best Oak Park therapist and likely the best Chicago therapist. Possibly the best therapist bar none. Most importantly, no other human being has had such a positive impact on my adult life as she has. I am forever grateful.
