Calmate Cafe is a hidden gem that you have to visit while in Puerto Vallarta. They are mainly a vegan restaurant but also serve a couple of dishes with meat. I, myself, am not vegan(my wife partially is), but I have tried a few of their vegan dishes and was blown away by the flavor and taste. You can tell the chefs put love in their cooking. I have also tried their hamburger and by far, its the BEST hamburger in Vallarta. They marinade the onions and tomatoes with something that is sooo flavorable and tasty plus the dressing they use just makes the burger juicy and memorable. Definitely check out Calmate Cafe. You will not be disappointed. Some notes: -They only take cash -The service is excellent! In many restaurants, the server visits you to take your order, bring your food and give you the bill. At Calmate, the servers periodically check up on you. I love it! -Try their oreo frappe. It's the best I've had. They use real Oreos and not some pre-mixed blend that most cafes have Suggestions to the owner: 1) put in air conditioning. Very Clean, Inviting, Spacious, and tables spaced about to minimize contact between guests. There is a hand washing station available, hand sanitizer, mask required, feet cleaning upon entry and other notices. I especially liked the space because of the bright atmosphere , Smoke Free, and too lots of Fans to circulate fresh air. The staff was very prompt, clean, courteous, and wore protective gloves and a mask. The establishment went above and beyond to meet State Standards and guests expectations for COVID-19. Can't ask for more. The restaurant was visibly clean and smelled clean if valued projects and had plenty of air flow. Our FOOD was accurate to order, Fresh , Hot, and well prepared. Tasted well and had as much flavor as it did color. Delicious! Too our Coffe and green tea Macha cold drinks were very enjoyable and flavors spot on. I finally made the effort to try this restaurant, and I'm kicking myself for not having visited sooner! I met a girlfriend for late breakfast/early lunch but was a bit early. I ordered myself a cold brew and am happy to report they offer coconut, almond and soy milk alternatives in addition to regular milk. The menu is full of healthy options ranging from GF to vegetarian and vegan. I ordered the veggie omelet and added bacon and avocado - (the veggie had all the great veggies I wanted but the bacon omelet didn't) which was cooked perfectly. I'm a freak about my eggs being overcooked. The bacon was also perfectly cooked which is evidently a challenge for many restaurants here in Mexico. This place is a dream if you like healthy food. I went once for breakfast and I have returned every day (for 3 weeks). I have been having a Bolita bowl. It has lentils, spinach, corn, avocado, red peppers. It is so fresh that I wake up anxious to get there. After the first week or so, the owner (Manuel, who is charming) asked if he could change the ingredients. He served me a bowl with mango and a variety of seeds in addition to other veggies. I came to Calmate about two years ago and loved the breakfast. It's a really cute cafe that sells bagged coffee and features local art. I came back to PV in May 2022 and drove to Calmate for breakfast one morning but discovered it is temporarily closed for renovations.
