I noticed this new spot next to a bakery I frequent. My hubby and kids love pizza so we gave it a try. There was nobody in there and our wait time was about 20 minutes. I highly suggest ordering ahead if you don't like to wait. We got a calzone, pizza and wings. The food was just all right. I felt like everything could have been cooked a little longer. The pizza was a little doughy and the wings didn't feel done. I had to air fry them for longer when I got home. The wings were really big though so maybe they just didn't realize. I've come here twice since it's on the way to my house. The first time I stopped by I waited about 15 minutes for my calzone, but the two gentlemen that were there I believe our father and son and they were very attentive and nice. The second time I stopped by was about a week ago and I did a phone order so I can pick up on my way out of work going home, plus the drive from my job is fairly close so I thought it would be a good idea. Wait time was a little longer than expected but the food came out fresh and I have no complaints. I would go here again, and I recommend it to others. Ambiance on the inside is a little lonely. They do have some tables, but the area on the outside can be kinda sketchy with the increase of local homelessness. read more

I called and ordered a veggie sandwich with chicken added with the Italian dressing on the side. The worker was kind. Had a little trouble understanding what I was requesting. Hoping he got it right. Fingers crossed! He told me it would be ready in 15 minutes. I went to get it. Not the best area. Before I walked in a homeless guy asked me for money. There were a few homeless people sitting around there. I went to get it and the worker, possibly owner was nice and welcoming. My order was ready. The restaurant looked pretty clean and safe. I got back to my apartment and one of the dressings on the side spilled out and went everywhere. It was a mess. Luckily, the sandwich was wrapped in foil. The sandwich wasn't anything special. The good was the tomato and lettuce was fresh. It wasn't really what I expected. Not many veggies and tiny pieces of chicken. A little disappointed. The bread was fresh! It is a large sandwich. Had half. Good service. Not the best sandwich, but I bet they have other stuff that is good. read more

We've been buying from the woman who owns this restaurant for years and we really enjoyed her deep-fried calzones. But the new owner has made it even better calzone than, Italian lady who owned the restaurant before. I really loved her cooking. But he does even better job with a calzone there's more meat and cheese it's just bigger. Keep up the good work.. The new owner has a flavor for everything Italian. For several years, he was a cook in Germany (& also Italy?) after migrating from India. His daughter is attending medical school (in California?). We ordered 2 Special Calzones for takeout They were fairly large & very tasty, but not very spicy, with a good balance of fairly uniform-sized bites of meat, veggies & cheese. Rather than the deep-fried type we normally get, these were oven-baked, so the crust was more crunchy, less puffy. The accompanying sauce was also on the mild side. We're happy to have this nearby - next time, we'll try the Deluxe Calzone. read more

Drove by Tony's Pizza for over 30 years. Only got pizza there once during Covid. Wish I had gone sooner. Tony's - in this spot - had to close due to a car accident. I read that Calzone Italia is somehow related to the Tony's people and also owners of a ritzy restaurant in "new Fresno" Champlain & Perrin area. I'm a huge supporter of local over corporate food, so ordered here as soon as I could. Got a special calzone to try it out. It was fresh, dough was excellent. Definitely flavorful overall. Seemed to be a high ratio of vegetables which affected the texture and flavor. Maybe I'll add some extra meat items next time. Marinara was way too sweet for my taste. It was fresh and I'm sure lots of people like it. The calzone was $11.00. It was a bit smaller than what you get at most places that serve calzones. About the size of a medium to large sandwich. I didn't know the other owners were no longer the Owners. I walk into loud music. I ordered 1 meat and cheese and 1 deluxe Calzone. Nothing is labeled to determine which is which. Both ended up being deluxe .When I ordered online it was misleading . It gave a option to select baked. I assumed if I didn't select that option it wouldn't be baked. It was baked. Ordered a calzone and a lasagna from this place, and lasagna was basically a collection of noodles with a tiny bit of marinara on it and some cheese on top. It was not layered, there was no ricotta cheese, and it had an off taste like the meat or something in it was out of date. It was barely edible, and not truly lasagna as much as a pile of noodles. The calzone was slightly better, but only really had in it some ground beef a little bit of bell pepper some onions and that was about it. This food was really awful, it tasted like it had been sitting in the walk-in refrigerator for way too long. Clearly these people need to learn how to cook lasagna. Never trying it again. read more

Wanted to find an old hole in the wall Italian restaurant because those are usually the and this fit the bill. The food was good but not great. Has a new owner. He was very friendly and I talked with him a bit. Prices were good and the portions were large. Biggest complaint would be drinks were in bottles rather than fountain drinks but that helped me not drink to much soda. Probably will eat here again. read more

My husband and I have been eating at Calzone Italia every week since it opened in Summer, 2021. (We also had ordered from Tony's over the years.) Now, with a new owner, we are so pleased that this new Italian place is so so delicious, with such wonderful service too. He aims to please and never disappoints! We've had all the different pastas and they are first-rate. They remind us of the delicious food you can get back in NY and NJ. We've had the home-made salads, home-made pizzas, garlic bread, home-made pastas & sauces and all are excellent. All dishes are totally made with love and great care. We give Calzone Italia 5 stars for excellent food, excellent service, and great prices. This is great Italian food at its best. Fresno finally has a new business that won't break your bank account! Came in for lunch one day, absolutely perfect! Had the Special Calzone, the crust was cooked beautifully and the sauce was so full of flavor. I highly recommend! Easy to miss and may not look like much from the outside, but do yourself a favor and try it. The man working was so nice and very humble, I was the only one in so I talked to him for a little. He was born and raised in India, lived in Europe (mainly Germany) for 30+ years cooking, and now he's here! I can see where all the flavor comes from now lol.
