Our friends told us about Camacho's Southern Style BBQ. I love BBQ and was so glad I checked them out. I got the Rib Plate and for $19 that included four bones and two sides. The pork ribs were awesome! The meat was so tender with a nice char. The extra BBQ sauce on the side was delicious. I chose the regular BBQ sauce but they also had a spicy one , too. Went to try Camacho's BBQ outside of Henhouse Brewery today. Ordered BBQ brisket plate with Mac salad and my husband had the brisket too but with fries. We also had a side of coleslaw. The brisket was seasoned well and smokey flavor was good. I enjoyed it with the spicy and regular BBQ sauce. It was very tender and pulled apart easily. Macaroni salad was OK. Heavy on the mayo. I'd try the potato salad next time. Fries were good too, well cooked, not soggy. Payment was venmo or cash only, but venmo was easy enough. They were very friendly and food was ready pretty quickly. Camacho's happened to be at HenHouse Brewery when my family stopped in this weekend, and though I've never heard of them before (as I'm based for the most part in Oakland), I was super satisfied by the rib plate. The 4 ribs we got were meaty and juicy, and came with a generous portion of BBQ sauce for dipping or slathering. The mac salad was refreshing and cool while the baked beans were smoky and hot. Everything perfectly complemented the flight of beers we got at HenHouse and on top of that the food was all served to us on an awesome cool cardboard tray that fit everything just right and composts after usage. It was a perfect shared snack with my family and best part is the price point was just right - you honestly can't find this kind of deal in the East Bay or San Francisco. I read past reviews and knew instantly that Camacho's was definitely worth a try and I'm so grateful we did order. I've ordered twice since the SIP has started and I am always looking forward to their next pick up events because I'm most definitely HOOKED. The quality and flavor of the food is phenomenal. Been meaning to stop by this truck for a while for their BBQ, but sometimes food trucks are hard to make it to! I've wanted to check them out at Cooperage (which I've also never visited), but have always had something or another come up during the day. Not today! And I'm so glad I visited. I wanted a nice spread and decided to order the ribs and was going to ask for a side recommendation. I thought the ribs only came with one side, but I was told I had a choice of two. SCORE!! My girlfriend wanted the cactus salad and I was leaving towards either the potato salad or fries, so I went with potato salad and we both got what we were looking for. The cactus salad and potato salad were both good, but the ribs were the main event. I've never had more tender, better cooked ribs in my life. I've even added in a photo of the ribs after I ate them to just show how easily they fell off the bone. Nothing left at all! I'll want to try other options like brisket or BBQ chicken or pulled pork from them, at some point, but props on those ribs. I don't even see how they can be outdone! In the mood for meaty pork ribs? This won't disappoint you. The bones we had were LOADED with succulent meat. I thought the meat was "tender" but it remotely not juicy (on the cusp of dry) and could have had more inherent flavor. I detected no "pepper" seasoning as others mentioned. The BBQ sauce is good but too sweet as is because it needs a component of acid like vinegar and a pinch of salt to make it outstanding. Especially to cut the richness of the meat. Spicy BBQ sauce is good but a little too spicy. Sauce Workaround: Bring some vinegar and salt to season to taste as you mix the two sauces and you'll have a very good sauce. The potato salad was the best thing in the order since the flavor was good, slightly acidic and seasoned just enough to make it delicious. It's a dill pickle based potato salad in the most pleasant way. The only room for improvement would be to kick up the acid a bit. Again to add sharpness to counter the meat. The nopales salad is visually appealing and had good flavor, but the filleted nopales added too much of a mucilaginous texture that overtook amy enjoyment of the flavor. (This coming from someone who loves okra and eats nato.) The jalapeños added just enough kick to the flavor that it was similar to a fresh salsa. Had there been julienned carrots, jicama, and a better ratio of cabbage to make for a hardy "crunch" to counter the impact of the nopales, then the rest of the ingredients could have made a great orchestra in your mouth. Would I try this food truck again? Probably, if I ask if the meat is juicy first. Maybe there is a better time of day for that. I'd try the baked beans instead of the nopales salad but I know I make the best BBQ baked beans I've ever had, confirmed by many strangers at an outdoor event. So I don't have high expectations for anyone else's. Though there is hope since the flavor of the salad and potatoes was better than norma most BBQ places for sides. Most places usually neglect putting legitimate thought and care towards their sides. I'll have to bring my own vinegar (or other acidic component) and salt to customize a mix of the sauces to bring them to their full potential. read more
