This place was amazing! I got the Harvest Bowl and was blown away. The portions were insane, almost too much, but better than having not enough I'd say. The flavor of the curry sauce was addictive. It wasn't spicy, just super flavorful. I ate way more than I I could handle, but that's because it was so insanely good. The vegetables were all cooked properly, to a soft comforting chew, and the rice pulled everything together. 11/10 would highly recommend! My only concern was that I would love to see a vegan option for something with french fries. Other than that this place was a nice gem. I had to pick someone up in the shopping center, i was hungry, and i had seen this place advertised somewhere. It sounded good...smoking bowls. It was late, i guess 45 min before closing. Looking at the menu it all looked great, creative etc. i asked the server shot the food and he said oh everything is made from scratch., etc. we're got two bowls, the dragon bowl and the roast beef bowl to go. We got them home and opened them up. The roast beef bowl was described as being served over a bed of home made mashed potatoes topped with home made gravy and special horseradish sauce. Tasting it, it was a way too salty and the meat was so mushy it blended way too seamlessly with the brown gravy to my taste, ie it was all a mush of sauce over more mushy mashed potato! But i preferred its flavor over the dragon bowl, but definitely did not taste like a home made beef gravy from scratch, it was on the overly thickened by corn starch side, with that fake bouillon taste. Dragon Bowl looks good, topped with crunchy cashews that had slight rancid taste, and fresh green onion. And sadly, the chunks of chicken in it were hard, ie tough, precooked for who-knows-how-long-tasting; old tasting. And the sauce was way too sweet. I was disappointed with the $35 bill. We took the food to go. Once we tasted it at home we basically threw it all in the garbage. What a waste but, yuck. Sorry! Ambiance: The place was empty of patrons, and felt like it was closing now even though they still have 45 min. Our two bowls were ordered were handed to us super fast after ordering, like it took no time to prepare, explaining the poor flavor and quality we experienced, plus look at what others have written about all this premade fast food. First - the lone staff member was friendly. Portions plentiful- great for college kids. I went with the Mediterranean bowl as it has elements I really enjoy. Everything is already made and assembled- I don't know how long the food has been in the "serving table" aka sitting out. Rice was room temp, some components warm and ironically the sun dried tomatoes ice cold. This made for an unpleasant combinations. The sundried tomatoes tasted like they were spooned straight from a jar - oily and it did not work with the feta and other components. The mixture of the oil with the cream just made my tummy sour. We had a wonderful experience at Smokin Bowls! We were in the Santa Rosa area for the weekend and were craving a dinner that wasn't too fancy or heavy. We landed on this restaurant after looking at reviews and pictures and it did not disappoint!! It was tucked pretty far back from the street and the large parking lot felt dark and sketchy, but their windows were lit up and inviting with several TVs streaming movies and cartoons, the walls dotted with colorful lights. We were the only guests when we arrived, but a steady stream of people came through while we were eating. The two gentlemen behind the counter were so helpful and personable. They made some menu suggestions and asked us a few questions to connect. It felt like they cared about our experience and wanted to be genuinely friendly. We ordered three different bowls and grabbed a few drinks from the fridge, making our way to one of the rustic looking tables with a cushy booth. Our food arrived quickly and we dug in with excitement. Super delicious, perfect level of heat, and great flavor combinations; filling, but not overly so. I first stopped by several years ago, around 2018. Let me tell you, the way this restaurant looks now compared to them is night and day. They did a complete refresh, they have a great raised logo, fresh paint, giant TV screen, the vibe is great. I enjoyed the food, I went with the "Rohnert pork", as how can I not go with something named after the city. I enjoyed it, my only request would be maybe add another veggie. Bell peppers, onions, even jicama or something to give it a little crunch. But let me tell you, that pulled pork was season two perfect perfection, and the fries are really good. The unassuming exterior hides what I consider to be one of the best, reasonably priced comfort food restaurants in Sonoma County. I ordered their pulled pork nachos, and what arrived was a heaping pile of regret that I'll never unsee--or unsmell. The plate was practically drowning in cheap, stringy pulled pork that made up HALF the dish, tasting like it was scraped from the bottom of a discount bin at a shady butcher shop. It was so foul, I'm convinced it was rancid before it even hit the kitchen. The nacho cheese looked promising but turned out to be a gastrointestinal grenade--within hours, I was glued to the toilet with explosive diarrhea that could've powered a rocket to Mars. Thanks, Smokin' Bowls, for the food poisoning nightmare. The booth seats? Falling apart like they were salvaged from a junkyard, with torn vinyl and stuffing spilling out like the place hasn't seen a repairman since the 90s. Sitting there felt like a gamble with tetanus. And the staff? Clearly high out of their minds, stumbling around like they'd just smoked their entire stash in the back. Solid food at a solid price! I've heard good things about Smokin Bowls, but never had the chance to stop by. It is located in an odd spot, but looks can be deceiving in this case. So one thing they do not do here is skimp on portions, you will not leave hungry, guaranteed! They also have a wide selection of different ethic meals, which is fun. We opted for the Mediterranean & Curry Bowl. Staff was accommodating and made it right in front of you, so no worries here about food that has been sitting around for awhile. Price wise for the quality and quantity, again you cannot beat it! Honestly both bowls punched a ton of flavor and I was easily in a food coma afterwards, so next time I'd consider that for a lunch break rather than dinner to not feel as full sitting on the couch. The staff is very kind, helpful and aim to please. The menu is interesting. Everything on the entire extensive menu is gluten free. So many choices and so many options. I ordered the chicken with sweet chile sauce over bacon fried rice. It sounded delicious. I also ordered hand cut fries. All to go. It didn't thrill me when I saw the very cool guy (for real) using a slotted spoon to retrieve the chicken out of some kind of liquid. But I went with it. I wish I could say it was delicious. But I'm not a fan of food in a warming station for who knows how long. The bacon fried rice was also in the warming station. I had visions of crispy bacon in slightly crispy fried rice. But that wasn't the case. I'd prefer fresh made food versus food sitting in a warming station. The fries tasted like the grease was old and they looked and tasted like the fries had been fried way before I arrived and dipped into the old oil when I ordered. I couldn't eat them. I think it was my mistake for not walking back in and sharing my experience. In retrospect I'd love a re-do. I went when they first opened and loved their food. Packed in "eco-friendly" bowls. We took the food to go. The staff were not very friendly. My husband requested additional blue cheese for the salad and they were very rude. (Too bad when I ordered on-line, I had provided a generous tip.) Ambiance? Hole in the wall located off the beaten path in a strip mall. Lots of parking. Cost? Everything is expensive nowadays; so, I'd say reasonable for this day in 2024. They also have many interesting other bowls (I consider bowls of junk food - teenagers would probably love). Very rarely do I immediately feel the need to write about a place (usually it's an angry post) but this place surprised me in all the good ways that I just had to share! We went to an event in Santa Rosa and were looking for a place to eat. I found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a chance. When we arrived, the outside looked sketchy. Google Maps directed us to the back of the restaurant where the trash cans were (bad omen?) and there was a couple of closed stores nearby. However the inside of the restaurant was clean and quaint. The first thing you'll notice about the menu is that everything is gluten free! Hooray!! Finally a place for me! Second you'll notice that the menu has a lot of variety of food from rice to fries to mashed potatoes and chips. I was a little skeptical because usually places with a large variety of food aren't great. However everything we ordered tasted good! We got the super nachos, the dragon bowl, the Rohnert Park bowl, and the pizza bowl. The super nachos had that nacho cheese on it but it didn't have that gross after taste that nacho cheese typically gives you. The nachos weren't even greasy! The dragon bowl had that sweet Asian chili tang that wasn't too overpowering. My father liked his Rohnert park bowl and he usually hates eating out. My son loved his pizza covered fries. On top of it being tasty, the portions were big! I have lunch for tomorrow now. I am still surprised at this nice hole in a wall we found. Don't sleep on it, gluten free community.
