I called the next day at 3 PM to see if my car was ready and they said about 10 minutes. I picked it up and went home. I noticed that the tire rotation had not been done when the woman behind the counter lied to me. The reason why I know this is because I removed the air cap from the passengers rear tire when I got home. I noticed the same tire was in the rear, and I called and notified them. They told me that sometimes they go side to side instead of front to back. I told him that neither had not been in touched. Also, none of my fluids were topped off as my add fluid for the window light was still on. In the morning the next day, I went to Belle tire and paying them to do the rotation and check my fluids during the inspection. They showed me my cabin and air filter which were filthy and should've been pointed out if Tuffy really did an inspection. I've been going there for the past three years never a problem Tuffy now lost me as a customer and their ethics are horrible. I keep my car impeccable, and don't even know if the oil was changed. Never again and you should be ashamed to yourself.

I ordered tires and scheduled an appointment through simpletire. The shop never reached out to me so I showed up on my appointment date and they didn't have me in the schedule due to "someone not putting me in the schedule after receiving the email from simple tire". That was fine and I gave them 2 days to swap my tires and they managed to get it done in 1. I was getting new wheels put on and asked on check-in if there was a fee for moving the sensors or for disposing 2 sets of tires, they did not give me an answer and when the person at the counter (maybe a service advisor maybe a technician/ mechanic, not sure) asked who appeared to be the shop manager the manager was dismissive and said "we'll handle it". On pickup they aggressively told me there was an extra fee for transferring the wheel sensors and I told them that was fine, I expected that and asked about it on check-in and wasn't given an answer. They were also very pushy about me keeping my old set of wheels and tires despite them being too tall and heavy for the car as the old ones were put on during an emergency when I had a flat and that's all the other shop had in stock at the time. I told them no and that I don't have a place to store them multiple times and that I would even pay an extra disposal fee and they kept pushing. They also did an unapproved inspection on the car and complained about my battery that I was already aware of and planned on swapping myself, as well as my brake pads that have been wearing out pre-maturely due to the previous tires I had on the car that were to heavy that they did not want to let me get rid of (I had just had the pads swapped 6 months ago, yet another reason for getting rid of the incorrectly sized tires I had). I don't recommend this place as they are poor on the customer service side and will try to push to do things you don't want to. I really wanted to like this place because it's in a very walkable location in the heart of walled lake, not far from many of the apartment buildings here, so if your car is getting worked on and you live here you can just walk home but I will be driving further for better service next time.

However, in recent visits, I noticed that diagnostic fees were being charged in addition to approved repairs. On top of that, I have experienced verbal quotes that were not honored. For my most recent--and final--repair, I was billed for an additional 0.5 hours beyond the verbal quote I was given over the phone. This additional charge was never authorized and was simply added to my bill. During a recent visit, I asked for a written estimate for maintenance work and was instead given a verbal number. When I insisted on a written estimate, they outright refused. While the quality of their repair work itself has generally been good, their lack of transparency, refusal to provide written estimates, and disregard for honoring their own quotes demonstrate a business practice I find unacceptable. Dan's Auto Clinic may try to present itself as an honest small-town business, but in my experience, their actions show that chasing extra charges matters more to them than maintaining integrity or building long-term customer relationships.

Car is in great shape, engine runs great, low mileage so dropping a little $$$ into rebuilding the front end was a no brainer IF I found a trustworthy mechanic to do the job. I got 2-3 estimates before my landlord suggested Chris. My landlord is a classic car buff and has been working with Chris @ Thayer for over 20 years. The tip more than paid off as not only did Chris put a plan together get my car back on the road, he also fixed three other issues (radiator/brakes/fuel filter) for the price that others wanted to just fix the front end - parts, labor, all included. Chris even took the extra step to research how to fix the issue of the 'dead' instrument panel which is a common soldering joint problem with many of the GM's of the time (2003-2005) - FOR HALF the price I saw everywhere else. We next took our car to Painless Autoworks,. The vehicle was thoroughly checked out and test driven, which took them quite a bit of time. They found nothing wrong with the car, whereas this established tire dealership franchise was trying to charge us thousands of dollars for unneeded work. We later found out that we were not the only ones who experienced high estimates for unnecessary work at this firm. I asked the gentleman at Painless Autoworks how much we owed them for their time. He said we owed "nothing." In a time of bad customer service, dishonesty and greed by some businesses, I feel blessed to have found an auto repair business that I can trust. The 1st time we met 12 years ago I was telling him about an ignition issue I was having with my ex's 2000 GMC Jimmy and before I got halfway through describing the symptoms he already told me what the problem was and what was needed to fix it, I debated with him a bit and remember saying "You haven't even seen the car how can you be so certain?", his answer came straight from the pages of a recall notice and at that moment I knew I had a good one. A year later he had a falling out with the shop owner and was gone, it took me 8 months to track him down from shop to shop until I found out that he had his own place and was now his own boss. This man does things the right way and knows how to treat people, it's not just his profession, it's his way of life. When you find a "guy" like Nick it is natural to keep him a secret, but the world needs to know that more people like him exist. In a nutshell, he will be honest, accurate and affordable... if you car is fixable he will fix it, but if it's not he will tell you to take it in the backyard and give it an honorable death (like he did with my girlfriend's 1997 Mazda 626). Try him one time, that's all it takes; you will be writing a Yelp review saying the same thing that his other customers already say... he's your "guy".
