Went into Chuck's awhile back to see John, and (like others) was surprised to find that Alex was running the joint now. I do NOT understand the poor reviews. Alex has been nothing but friendly, personable, helpful, kind, honest, and affordable. I had my car into the dealership recently for a recall and they pointed out that my brakes needed replacing. I've been going to Chuck's for many years, back when John was the owner, and the service was amazing. When John retired, I was so worried that it would not be the same but the new owners have not disappointed. They are so friendly and honest. Today I went to pick up my car and had planned to pay cash for the discount, but forgot the money at home. The owner (sorry I don't know his name) followed me home and let me pay him there, even though I told him I had a ride. He didn't want to put me out! So, to be clear - this hasn't been "Chuck's" garage in many, many years. The previous owner (John) sold the business last summer. New owner - Alexander - is a personable guy. But beware of massive price gouging. MASSIVE. Brought a car in recently for a relatively simple fix (I know cars), and he quoted $900. When I exclaimed shock, he then negotiated down to several hundred dollars less. SEVERAL. HUNDRED. This dude way tried to extort and will come down in price if you push back. Very shady. He also said he'd use aftermarket parts to save me money. I researched the cost of the aftermarket part he replaced and the markup was borderline robbery. He also quoted an insanely high price for a rudimentary maintenance item that I asked about, and then even suggested I didn't really need to do it (knowing full well my high mileage vehicle was well due for the service). So - not sure I'd trust his advice for long-term car owners. He's younger and clearly doesn't know better, but the advice was not sound. I'm trying to support local businesses but his practice makes it hard. So - be aware. read more

I had been a customer of John's for over 20 years. Anyone who has been a previous customer of Chuck's won't be pleased with the new ownership. Friendly people, but that doesn't mean they are competent to service vehicles. Took the car in for an oil change this week. I think we'd have better service at a drive-thru oil change center. Anyone who worked with John and Andy over the years knows that they treated every customer like family. Oil changes were car check-ups. They checked tire pressure, brakes, etc. New owners strictly change oil. We had to confirm that they even did that because we didn't get a new oil change mileage sticker. Had a tire that was low. Didn't even put air in the tire. Maybe someone who hasn't been a previous customer of Chucks would be satisfied with that, but that's not the service that we expect at Chuck's. Miss John already. The new guy running the front of the house over promises and underdelivers. I asked multiple times if they can get to my car in one day. I have no problem waiting for an appointment. Before I get my rental car I ask again: "are you good tomorrow" Then near the end of the day after I call to check in, i found out there were three vehicles in front of me for AC service and they can't get to me. I just needed to know that up front. I would have picked a different day where I'm number 1. I'm takin my car somewhere else. read more

John from Chuck's Automotive is truly nice guy to talk to, communicates well when the car is finished, undergoing repairs, and did a great job on the repair, even using my part bought online to save money on a car I'm going to sell soon. Belle Tire tried to sell me a $360 part and total repair cost over $530! John brought it down to $200 in labor. As an Uber driver/small biz owner, I need reliable repairs, done quickly and inexpensively, yet a good value. I can't afford a supercar, European sports sedan or anything new; my 9-year-old, yet very reliable 2013 Mazda CX-5 Touring w/ 233k miles, is going strong for its age and how far it's traveled! I made an appointment to take my Mercedes in for an oil change. Also, had an engine lite that has been on since I arrived in MI after having the car worked on in CA. Bought a 2014 Escape in for repairs to the air deflector underneath the engine. It had totally dropped to the ground. Talked with John. No pressure on upcharges...the only fix was to use four screws to retighten the front end. Very reasonably priced. Highly recommend. read more

The owner was helpful and diligent. My mom has a 17 year old SUV and it had multiple issues. She's gone to more well known mechanics in the past and ended up with either a new or unresolved issue. Chuck's diagnosed the issues within a day and called to explain exactly what they needed to do, including the cost of each fix. They helped prioritize which issues needed to be addressed right away and which ones could wait if need be. When I went to pick up the car, they went over the fixes and showed me the parts that needed replacement. Glad we chose Chucks! read more

I paid nearly $1000 for not a single issue to be fixed that I took my vehicle in for that they told me were all fixed and wouldn't cause me any more issues. WRONG. The very next day the issues were back and all my warning lights were back on. Multiple little things were broke on my car while it was at their shop as well (IE, driver's visor). I took it there, because I heard they were honest with fair pricing. Not even close. Even the new tire they put on my car didn't match the other 3 tires already on the vehicle and they told me they were getting the same one for my vehicle. Another lie. Not to mention, new tires should always go on the back and this one was left on the front. I left two voicemails with the shop within the week of their repairs and of course, I never heard back from them. I don't recommend them at all. I regret trusting them with my car. read more

John and the crew are fantastic! We have been taking our cars for general repairs for years. One car has 189.000 and another has 217,000 miles and still running awesome thanks to them. Our most recent experience was a transmission went on the 217,000 car. The quote we got from a repair shop near our house was $800 more than Chucks charged us AND they fixed a few other small things too. Had intake redone by a different mechanic after paying John the owner $640 his mechanic did a bad job of prepping mounting surface for manifold, the silicon which was the most important job was done poor ,I was ripped off by bad workmanship and I have pictures to prove it,look where the silicon in second picture had a little void on the surface which never sealed and had two little holes to let oil flow down engine, I would never take any vehicle to chuck's service center my thumb is pointing down ,my review is %100 true try to avoid this place read more

Chucks is my new go to shop for auto repairs. I knew what I needed prior to taking my car there so I kinda knew what it should cost. I dropped my car off at 10 a.m. John said he would call me later with a diagnosis. He called around 1 p.m. with the same diagnosis I figured and came in very close to the estimate I thought. I said sure go ahead and fix it and I would expect it the next day. Surprisingly he said it would be done by closing time! This place is fast and trustworthy. Took my car in with an unidentified rear wheel squeak. The diagnosis was a worn fan belt and tensioner (wrong end of vehicle). They assured me they had road tested the vehicle before and after the repair and that everything was good. Also wrote up a full page of recommended repairs that had nothing to do with my squeak. I picked up the car after paying the bill, drove 1/2 a block before noticing the squeak was exactly the same then returned to the shop. The next examination resulted in a $1400+ estimate for a rear axle repair. Try someone else, not sure how good these guys are. They adjusted the bill but paying for nothing still rubs me wrong. read more

This is the first repair shop in my life that I can say is honest and lets you know everything you need to know about the repair and more! Had a really great experience with this shop after I got in my car to go to work today and found it wouldn't start. John coordinated towing for me and had my starter fixed the same afternoon so I wouldn't spend the weekend without a car. Most importantly, they are super honest and don't treat you like you're clueless. Even though I'm female and fit the stereotype of knowing little about cars, John explained the work that was done, offered to show me the old part, and confirmed that my brakes and other components were in good shape. My husband also had a good experience several months ago.
