I was referred to Dr. Wilgus and I could not be more grateful for his care, demeanor, and bedside (chair) manner. My oral surgery was as "good" as could be expected. :) I won't go into the specific details, but I was treated with respect and kindness when I explained my medical PTSD. I was heard. Thank you. Dr. Chang was professional, attentive, and thorough. She took the time to listen carefully to my concerns and clearly explained the steps I might take to get clearance to potentially resolve a malunion in the condylar region of my mandible. (This issue arose after what I would characterize as ineffective treatment by Dr. Siavash of Ventura, whose approach failed to properly set the fracture--resulting instead in a fusion that led to a malunion, and then a second surgery by Dr Fahradyan at VCMC that also seems inadequate.) I was referred to Camarillo Periodontics by my dentist next door (literally next door) because I needed to have a tooth implant replaced and Camarillo Periodontics can do IV sedation in-house. Also because my dentist trusts his work, which of course is more important to me, but the convenience of the sedation was fantastic. I won't do any major work without it and Dr. Wilgus was very understanding of my anxiety issues and was a real pleasure to work with. I've been in twice so far - once for the basic consultation and once to extract the implant that was failing and do a bone graft at the same time. I have had a lot of dental work done, so I've gotten a good sense for when something isn't right. I went here once and I never returned. My dentist referred me here because I had a tooth that broke diagonally underneath a crown to the root. He told me that the root itself was still in good shape but that he couldn't treat it further. I knew this was pretty bad but the roots looked good. When I first saw Dr. Hunter, he started asking me questions about the company I work. Not a big deal. Then he briefly mentioned a crown lengthening as a poor option while strongly pressuring me to get an implant, with a bone graft and a sinus lift. Wait wait wait. What? He showed me an x-ray that showed almost no tooth structure left. This did not match what my dentist had shown me. The billing people up front were very excited when they saw the company I work for and said "Oooh, you have some great dental benefits!" That's when I knew what was going on. Several months later after offices opened back up from the pandemic, I went back to my previous dentist (the referring dentist had retired). Even the woman that took my x-ray said "You still have a decent amount of tooth structure left" and the dentist (who has trained in reconstruction) said that the periodontist should have no problem doing a crown lengthening procedure and a crown instead. Both he and the periodontist both said that an implant was completely unnecessary. Read all of the reviews here carefully. I have. You will notice 2 trends. One is with poor communication over out-of-network billing. The other is the type of problems the patient has and what was recommended (even though they were happy with the work). All of them have very basic dental issues: severe decay, a failed root canal, a chipped or broken tooth. ALL of them have the same treatment recommended: an implant. Severe decay can be treated with a root canal typically, a chipped tooth can be treated with polishing or a veneer. A broken tooth can be treated with crown lengthening in some cases. I am giving 2 stars instead of 1 because I have a family member that had a very good experience with Dr. Wilgus. I wish I had asked for him instead. read more

No pain thanks to the effective numbing. AND: Dr. Hunter called me to make sure I was okay tonight! I think only my vet's office calls to check on my dogs! Office staff super friendly and went above and beyond to help me with the insurance, since their office is outside of my network. It's difficult to get excited about a visit to the periodontist because all you see is $$$ and some sort of pain. However, when you do have to go, Camarillo Periodontics is the Rolls-Royce. Since most of us don't have dental degrees you are at the mercy of the provider. Dr. Hunter and his staff communicated openly and honestly and provided a couple different options. Wow this place is great, i've been under care of Dr Jeremy Wilgus here. Dr Wilgus is very straight forward and efficient. After hesitating for a month or two due to the pandemic and the unpleasant thought of having two wisdom teeth removed I finally had them removed. It's been about 36 hours since the procedure and I feel great. I had heard many wisdom teeth horror stories from people throughout life and can say I have no clue what they are talking about. I had zero pain during the process or after. I was fully awake for the procedure, Dr. just numbed the area with novocaine or similar and I was done before I knew it. Literally I was like ok when does the pulling and tugging start, and he was already done. I realize it is still early and I may have just had an easy case but this is my experience. The medical care I received was excellent. The billing staff however were a different story. They failed to communicate that I was "out of network" and therefore I incurred a high out of network cost. They placed phonecalls to my insurance companies (double covered) and said the charges would be "completely covered" as far as they could tell. I had the oral surgery and then all the sudden I was "out network". I would recommend them for medical care but be very careful with their billing. read more

This was one of the best experiences I have had at a periodontal office. I was not blessed with the best teeth and even though I take good care of them, over the years I have had lots of work. When my dentist referred me here I was a little reluctant because it was a little ways away from where I work and live. I'm so glad I made the treck to this office. From Debbie at the front office to Brenda the assistant, plus others which I didn't get there names, they were all very welcoming and friendly. They kept me informed as to everything they were doing the whole time. Then there was Dr Wilgus, oh my word, he is so good looking as well as being super nice. The grafting procedure was done in no time and with NO discomfort! He explained everything he did and all the after care as to what the expect later. got to the office with my insurance, they said the services are covered, but forgot to mention that they are not in network for the insurance i presented. Anyways got the deep cleaning schedule and after couple hours i came down with fever and inflation, called them up after couple days staff forgot to call the doctor, no follow up was given and i was in pain for weeks. i was told i need half quadrant cleaning and that they will charge two full quadrant cleaning for doing 4 half quadrant which is obvious, i got charged almost $1055 for two quadrant which should be around 450 anyways. very unprofessional about billing, they even admit that we do not advise you anything on the insurance that we accept, its your responsibility on the other hand they when i called in said that they do accept the insurance.... i had to force the deep cleaning done by the doctor on the second sitting and got the cleaning schedule finished anyways. Never GOING BACK AGAIN.. THEY SCAM you between what doctor will tell you and what office with charge, also if for reason they screw up your cleaning they charge you anyways. to the point they did not even apologize for the pain i suffered.. thinking of taking to the small claims court. read more
