I have been waiting patiently for this coffee shop in Spring Branch to open for months now and I must say...it did NOT disappoint! Cambrian Coffee is a most welcomed addition to the neighborhood and I'm surprised to find that I'm the one adding it to Yelp and the first to review it - lucky me! Their soft opening was Jan. 11, 2021 and I stopped by this morning omw to work and grabbed a few goodies for me and a friend. Their Cambrian Latte (latte flavored with their homemade cinnamon infused honey) and cappucino were just what we needed to start our morning strong. I also tried their sausage roll - delicious! Imagine a puff pastry around a well seasoned sausage (the crumbly country sausage style, not red hotdog style), perfectly buttery and flaky! The coffee walnut loaf was meh for me. The icing reminded me a little of cafe sua da flavors. I'm glad I tried it but would probably not reorder. A little too dense for my liking, and the icing was way too sweet. However the walnut on top was perfectly toasted so I'll give them props for that. I'm sure others will love it, but just not for me. They also have cute items on shelves and near the register with their logo for sale, and I must say I was very tempted to buy one of their mugs. After viewing the many positive reviews I decided to give Cambrian coffee a try during my work break. I'm happy to say I was not disappointed! I tried the classic sausage roll, a cheese and chive scone, and a Honey cinnamon iced latte. The scone was good but it would have been better warmed up, The sausage roll was delicious!!! Funny story I'd actually picked up coffee by HEB because I didn't know Cambrian were open yet but of course as soon as I saw the lights on I turned into the parking lot. I love supporting local and this is as local as it gets! I got their cambrian latte and it is amazing, strong, and flavorful. I also ordered their sausage roll which is a sausage rolled in puff pastry. I liked the crisp and fluffy texture of the roll but It was messy to eat and the flakes go everywhere every time you take a bite. However, the sausage was way too salty. I came here on a Wednesday morning before work to grab a cup of coffee and this place is such a gem in the Spring Branch area! First of all, their theme is so cute! Their decor is inspired by fossils and dinosaurs and it's so clean and minimalistic inside. I love how there's plenty of seating to get work or studying done and also the perfect amount of lighting from the windows. I had wanted to try their signature Cambrian Latte, but I found out they had ongoing seasonal flavors so I opted for my usual favorite: Honey Lavender Latte. The drink was really delicious and honestly perfect- not watered down at all and had lots of espresso and lavender flavor without being overly sweet! I keep seeing reviews of people loving their Cambrian latte so I'm excited to go back and try that one if I'm ever in the area. Overall, I'm very impressed and super happy I checked it out. Update: I was in Houston for about five months during the end of the pandemic, and I visited Cambrian nearly every day before work. I truly can't describe just how warm and friendly the staff is. Brian and Gemma have really created a neighborhood coffee shop that is welcoming to everyone. They're invested in the Spring Branch community - they've done donation drives for local schools and a fundraiser for Tony's Place during pride month. They really care about every single person who walks through the door. Yes, the coffee and food is delicious, but the people are what make this place top notch. One of my favorite coffee shops in Houston for various reasons. To start off the staff is amazing and very conversational, second their coffee is high quality tailored to customers with a more advanced taste pallet, no offense to those who don't. I feel some of the bad reviews were uncalled for such as the high price, there is a cost for quality but Cambrians prices are comparable to other non chain coffee shops. The other review was a cup being half empty which is a sign of pessimism. The cup was actually half full with foam on the other half which is standard with drinks such as a latte, cappuccino, etc. Overall if you're looking to try a new coffee shop give this place a try, I've tried almost every coffee shop in Houston and this is one of my top 3. Was excited to see a new coffeeshop in the branch! Unfortunately I'm not impressed with their coffee. I drink nitro cold brew which is usually creamy and smooth. For some reason their nitro is super bitter. I've tried it 3 times now and couldn't finish it each time. They should've opened a bakery. The sausage rolls are awesome but they are pretty much always out of them. I understand they are concerned about throwing a few away at the end of the day, but losing sales because you don't make enough is penny wise and pound foolish, especially on weekends. I've been at least five or six times, never been able to buy enough rolls for my family. Sell them for a discount at the end of the day if you have some left. The guy is super friendly but the lady is not. She gives more European style service. Go for the sausage rolls but good luck getting one. There's other better local coffee options in the branch though. read more
