I discovered this place by surprise when I forgot to prepare coffee for myself like I usually do the night before work. I needed to find somewhere near my dog's daycare that I could grab a coffee and go straight to work after dropping him off, but I generally drink coffee with oat milk, and I don't like to settle for mcdonalds coffee. Honestly, I wish I had found this place sooner, because I would have been going there a lot. It's a quiet, inviting space with a small, shared parking lot, and it seems like it would be a nice place to dine in as well as take things to go. They had no qualms with using my personal ceramic cup, and their Americano with oat milk is fantastic (they also use Oatly, which is my favorite brand). I peeked at the food menu and the bakery case, and everything looked SO good. I will be back for both coffee and that bacon cheese croissant soon! EDIT: returned a second time for a takeout drink and to get a photo to add to this review, but the staff is so kind and the place is so inviting that I ended up sitting for a bit on their patio. I really want to like this place but do feel it misses the mark. It seems to not be sure of what it's identity is from wide range food and drink offerings to an aesthetic that does not match the quality of food/drink. We ordered a regular coffee and a latte. My large coffee with room from creamer was only 3/4 full and the quality was just okay. The $6 latte was nothing special. The biscoff bun was delicious. And the carrot cake muffin was heavy, dense, and cold. Inside setting is wonderful. Ample seating, diverse offerings and an open feel - it serves the space well. Parking is limited on the side with difficult alternative arrangement options. I think in time a uniform feel is possible but some quality control is necessary. read more

My husband and I were in town a few weeks ago on vacation and popped in here really quick to get a coffee and treat for the long drive back to Indianapolis. The coffee was really good, but I would not come back for pastries. We each got a blueberry danish, but they didn't have any flavor to them at all. I had saved it for about halfway back to Indy when we stopped for gas and it was lackluster. We each had a hot caramel macchiato and loved those. The inside was eclectic and bustling. The decor was really cutesy and they have a full bar. Service was very slow, but friendly. It looks like such a fun spot to meet up for cocktails or a boozy coffee, so I would love to come back if we are in Charlottesville in the future. I've visited a few times over a year or so, and the place is always consistently a nice quiet place to work or relax. There are nice cozy armchairs in the back a couch in the front, and more traditional tables in between. They have a good selection of teas, coffees and cocktails. Their hot teas are served in a cute pot with a tea cup. Their pastries have been decent. Their cocktails are overall pretty good. They have a cocktail flight which is a decent choice if you're out with friends. They are quick with service. They do have a parking lot. It's a bit confusing which spots are theirs and it is a little limited but not bad. Overall, would recommend. read more

While I loved the coffee shop that previously occupied this space, I thought Camellias was fantastic and an amazing replacement. The space felt very cozy and there was plenty of seating. The bar was large and elegant looking as well, and the pastry case had so many delicious-looking treats. There are so many fun-flavors for your coffee - I ordered one that had hints of blueberry and lavender with a sweet cold foam on top. It was absolutely delicious and came in such a pretty glass. I also ordered a pain suisse, which was tasty with just the right amount of chocolate inside. I will definitely have to return to try more of the menu! read more

Super cute little cafe a few blocks from Charlottesville's downtown / historic district serving up gorgeous, Instagram-worthy pastries and coffee. I happened to be in the neighborhood and was looking for a cozy place to read for a few hours, and Camellia's seemed like the perfect place to pause. I got a latte, which was beautifully crafted with the most intricate, gorgeous latte art. They had a ton of croissants with super unique flavors, many of which were Asian-inspired, including Thai tea, coconut and pandan, and Dubai chocolate. The croissants were almost too beautiful to eat, but, when I finally did bite into my Thai tea croissant, it was perfectly flaky and buttery. The custard inside had a good amount of Thai tea flavor, but it was just a smidge too sweet for my taste. Even so, the decadent croissant was a great pairing for a good coffee or to split with a friend. The staff was also super friendly, and the whole shop was incredibly cozy -- perfect for an afternoon reading session, morning coffee chat, or to work / study. read more

The matcha latte tasted like grass water because they don't put enough matcha powder in there. I very kindly asked them to put more, but they declined. The manager was very rude and replied loudly and aggressively that their Japanese matcha is of the best quality, so it's the customer's fault that it doesn't taste like anything. read more

I tried Camellia's for the first time. I was impressed with the availability of tables and power. I had work to do. I was going to order house coffee but it was nearly $4 with no refills at all. She didn't say there was any discount on a refill either so that was crazy. I ordered a latte. She said it comes standard with 2 shots but it was terribly weak. Like it was so weak that after adding my standard sweetner I had to go back and ask if they had already put sugar in it. It was so weak it was barely drinkable. Great matcha! However the customer service was horrible and I'm very disappointed. Accidentally ordered a matcha with whole milk and when I asked if I could have it with almond milk (for my $10 matcha), my receipt was slapped on the coffee bar. Lots of places to sit, but when my friend sat at different tables to do work, they told us we had to move because they have other customers.
