This will unfortunately be my last review of Moose's before its unfortunate closing. This trip surely did not disappoint. We got to sit "side by side" which was kind of similar to sitting on the couch at home. In this configuration we saw numerous local regulars come and give each server an envelope with what we presume to be a thank you to their dedicated service. It was also the first time I met the owners. One was so enthusiastic that she made a comment of my unique eye and had to show me her "child" that had the exact same one. We finally got to try the lunch menu at this place. It was solid. Service was a little slow, but they told you that when you entered. The kitchen was a bit backed up, but it was all good. My wife and I both got the Club Sandwich with waters and the bill out the door was 20 + tip. You can't beat that. Keep up the great work you folks are doing ! read more

Yummy place for a classic breakfast with friendly service and fun moose decor adorning the walls! I loved the breakfast burritos with sausage and they even changed up the cheese for me with American. The sour cream and the salsa were great on the side and the home fries. Husband enjoyed his meat omelette and even got a side of scrapple since he is originally from Philadelphia and said it was very good. We also tried their pancake with the cinnamon butter and it was very good! That butter sure added a nice touch! Went for lunch after visiting Carter's Mountain Orchard. I would never know this was a restaurant if it weren't for Yelp reviews. It's next to a U-Haul rental place and doesn't even look like a restaurant from the outside. We were seated promptly when we arrived. Our waitress took our drink orders and told us the specials. I will definitely want to come again. This place has some of the best comfort, American brunches in Charlottesville. When we walked in, we were immediately seated. I did see the country fried steak special for $14 and probably should have gotten that (This is my biggest regret when coming here is we should have gotten the country fried steak) We ordered: 1) Meat Omelette ($12) (comes with potatoes and 2 full slices of toast) - very yummy and salty. Just what I need when I wake up 2) Pumpkin Spice Latte ($5) - very underwhelming will not try again 3) One Cinnamon Butter Pancake ($3) - SO DELICIOUS! 4) One Full Order of Gravy and Biscuits ($8) - The first few bites were great, but then I probably should have gotten a half order. As I continued to eat it just became heavier and heavier. Overall a great place for breakfast and I will want to come again!!! Also while we were there they had some people come up and sing Christmas songs for prizes! They gave away an advent calendar and some gift certificate to the restaurant! This diner is amazing and I cannot recommend it enough. From the outside it is unassuming, nestled in a parking lot for 18-wheelers. There is a small photo prop outside, which we of course took full advantage of before heading in. The interior is stocked with taxidermied friends, with the centerpiece being a full moose head. At the end of the meal the staff took a photo of our party, which was greatly appreciated! The were able to make space for our group of 15 after only about a half hour notice, which was very much appreciated. We were able to order a great variety, but started with the coffee. Free refills, sugars and creams at the table, what's not to love? The service was very quick and friendly, so we got a ton of coffee through brunch. I ordered a classic breakfast with a biscuit, fried eggs, and bacon. The staff was kind enough to accommodate our many dietary restrictions with substitutions and allowed me to get fried apples instead of potatoes. I am so glad, because those fried apples were so delicious! Loved having them as part of the meal. Everything else was excellent too. Buttery biscuit, crispy bacon, and well-fried eggs. What a great find on yelp. A small local restaurant with a moose theme. We walked in and were seated quickly and our waitress was quick with coffee. We ordered veggie omelette and hash browns with a biscuit and biscuits and gravy with extra crispy corn beef hash and eggs. It was all very well cooked and tasted amazing. The biscuits were so good!!!! The coffee was also very good. The moose decor is carried out in the art and even a stuffed moose head which makes for great photos. I get the Big Moose for breakfast and the ham always hits the spot. Their mimosa deals are amazing too! Definitely a more casual place but my friends and I have gotten dressed up for Easter Sunday to hang out with Moose and Amy and celebrate with Easter Eggs full of money and candy! I also came here on my birthday with all of my friends! The owners are amazing and the workers have always been very hospitable. Super great for big groups who are splitting checks. This rates high for a great value for your money (at least for breakfast), which is why I give it 5 stars. They have a great local diner vibe; no tourists (except maybe myself) to be found. Lots of firefighters and police coming by as well. You can tell it's well loved by all the trophies and firefighter patches on the wall. There was plenty of space as well. It didn't seem crowded, despite a fair number of visitors. I got a simple but filling omelet, OJ and coffee. Price point was good. You pay up front. Wow! Highly recommend for great food + great service. Our group of nine ladies were looking for a hot meal in a dry place after camping overnight in the pouring rain. Found Moose's in a Google maps search and arrived on a busy Saturday morning. There was already a wait but the place was bigger than we thought. A great greasy spoon restaurant with an awesome staff. Everyone was soooo friendly. The reason for the 4* and not a 5* is that I didn't like their skinny fries. They were dry and not hot. Ran up on this place by total accident. My wife and I were looking for a place to do breakfast on the way back from a ski trip and found Moose's by the creek on our Google search. The outside of the establishment didn't lend itself to a restaurant vibe, but when we saw seven firefighters leaving the building, we knew we were in the right place. We didn't have to wait to be seated during the prime breakfast time and there was quite a few folks in the establishment. The weight staff was extremely friendly and helpful with the menu and the owner checked on us and offered a sample of her new shrimp n grits recipe. Haven't had French toast this good in a loooong time, the rest of the food we ordered was made just right. The service was great, even for a busy Sunday afternoon the waitress was very nice and attentive to our table of five. I love the fact that as soon as you walk in you have a giant Moose staring at you, and you can tell the owner supports first responders by the wall covered in patches. Moose's is a great stop hidden in the picturesque countryside of Charlottesville. The hostess and wait staff were light-hearted and courteous. We were in a hurry for an appointment and happy this place could get us our (excellent) food quickly. We got there at 10 on a Sunday morning, were seated almost immediately, and no more than 15 minutes later were enjoying our delicious omelets with trimmings, still hot from the griddle. Chalk up another win for Yelp! As many times as we have run up and down 64 over the years, we would have never found this place. It's a quick on and off the highway, so bonus points. Like others have said, it's not much to look at from the outside, but don't let that fool you. Diners that look like doves are the best. The decor is eclectic, and quite frankly super fun. The menu is not huge, standard diner fare, which is probably why they do it so well. I had the Maine Moose - 2 eggs (scrambled perfectly with cheddar), 3 pieces of bacon (cooked to perfection), subbed grits for the home fries which were tasty and cooked well and an English muffin in place of toast. Everything thumbs up and it wasn't such a huge portion that I walked out stuffed to the gills. Hubby had the C'Ville way and the cinnamon butter on the French toast was a nice touch. They lose a half star here because the French toast was cold. One kid had the western omelet, which she really liked, with a biscuit. The other kid had a Philly cheesesteak which was filled with lots of gooey cheese and on a nice soft, yet perfectly toasted buns. Not much to say about the shoestring fries other than they were there in abundance and good enough that we all helped him finish them! They lose another half star because the service was a bit spotty. To be fair, our server was slammed and while she did have some help (another woman brought us our check), there was another woman in the restaurant busy taking pictures of people in front of moose ears and yelling at the host/busser for not busing tables. I'm sure she was joking, sort of, and I am sure the pics are fun, but when they are slammed, she could have pitched in. Maybe she's the owner? Listen, do not sleep on this place. We stopped here on our way through town and I'm so glad we did. We were slightly concerned when we pulled up because it is very much a "hole in the wall" kind of place, but their hospitality and food more than make up for the outward appearance. There's plenty of space inside to spread out, and they're quick to greet you once you're seated. I very much appreciated that everyone (staff & guests) were wearing masks. They have a few adult beverages available, including mimosas, if you're in the mood. I got the BLT sandwich, which comes with fried green tomatoes. It was stacked with bacon and toasted perfectly. The seasoned salt on the side for your fries was a nice touch too. My boyfriend was equally impressed by his cheeseburger. How in the name of the patron saint of food does this place get such high ratings? This was on my local favorites places to eat list but now is at the top of my Never underestimate the poor taste of the American public list. Maybe all the glowing reviews came from family, friends, neighbors, people that think hav ing old musty stuffed animal heads is appetizing - I will never know . The service was great but everything else was weird, bad and sad. I ordered the Loose Moose Burger- burger, chili, pepper jack cheese and jalapeño peppers. My burger was as dry and tasteless as the mangy stuffed opossum that sits in a glass case at the entrance. I was hoping maybe the chili would save the hockey puck burger but there was only about a dime sized amount of chile tucked under the cheese and somehow even the chili was dry! I desperately searched the plate for the pickle that was promised on the menu but it was nowhere to be found. The fries were good though. Anyway , they have a huge customer base so they can continue serving this cheap concession stand fare without needing to do better. My loss . read more

Where do I even begin? This has to be, by far, one of the greatest places I've ever eaten at in my life, no kidding. We had exceptional service, great food, it was definitely an experience that we will never forget. Owners Melinda "Moose" Stargell and Amy Benson were both on-site and very hands-on, and I mean that in a literal way LOL. Amy had us cracking up, and I'm sure we will be talking about her and our experience there for a very long time. Of course we intend to go back as soon as possible! The menu selection is great, they serve breakfast all day long and have several great sounding sandwiches and burgers to choose from. My boyfriend had a Philly cheesesteak which looked and smelled amazing, he said it tasted as good as it looked. I had the "Idgie" , which was a fried green tomato BLT, with tasty crunchy bacon, it was delicious. The stand-out, though, was definitely the wonderful service and family feel, having never been there before, we felt so welcomed, so entertained, and we look forward to making Moose's a regular stop when heading out to Charlottesville! read more

This place is a riot. We went here with our nephew who lives and works in Charlottesville and he was spot on. What a cute place. The woman who owns it is a riot and is nice as can be. She took our picture under this huge moose head and posted it on their fb page! All while making us laugh! Everything in this place relates to moose- the art work on the wall. The moose themselves (stuffed). Even one moose you could take a picture with and she moved it down on a sliding bracket to work with your height. The food was delicious though I had a poached egg, side salad and coffee. The rest of the crew got pancakes with chocolate chips and waffles and everyone was very happy! The employees were all very friendly! Half the fun of going here is looking at everything on the wall- they also will sing to you if it's your birthday!
