A child was playing with a ball in the driveway! I can't even remember what we had but being a fan of red and disliking white, I was really pleased at the two whites we had. One had a coconut flavor, really! And it was delicious. The menu is interesting... We chose a few cheeses, meat and bread, and they literally arrived in the packaging. We had to open our own box of crackers and cut open the cheese. Anyway, it contributed to the Homey comfortable atmosphere of the place.... The Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg is a historic beet sugar refinery from 1934-1993 that has wine shops and tasting rooms for local wineries. They have over a dozen wineries. Wine tastings average $15 and most wineries waive the fee if you buy a bottle. They have wine shops in the main building and in the other building. Don't forget to walk back and to the right to the shops in the separate back building, there is 3-4 more wineries. Each winery are literal walled shops with their own seating areas. Temperature controlled which is nice on hot summer days. Each have their own wine tasting, food offerings, and special events. Old Sugar Mill is less than 15 minute drive from downtown Sacramento. The buildings are beautiful. They kept the historic brick walls and exterior. It has a modern shabby chic look. Three different brands owned the refinery. It all began in 1934 with Amalgamated, American Crystal Sugar Factory (1936-1982), and Delta Sugar (1983-1993). The sugar was refined by local Northern Californian grown beets. The buildings was renovated in 2000 for its current use. Awesome concept and beautiful architecture design. They also host weddings and events. They have a banquet room with slideshow equipment. There is also an outdoor lawn and adjoining paved patio area that is shaded in the afternoon by the buildings that would make for a gorgeous wedding venue. On hot summer days, the Delta breeze kicks in for instant cool down. No outside food are picnics are allowed. On the weekends, they have food trucks. Plus the majority of the wineries sell food (appetizers) as well. Also no pets are allowed (excluding service animals). The restrooms are located right by the front entrance.

I bet in the sweltering heat of our summers this is the perfect place to be. The Sugar Mill is an indoor venue. They have three different building with different wineries at this time. So, there is a little walking outside. Wine Barrels- You can buy half wine barrels for your garden for sale. Seating- They have lots of little seating areas. Inside they have a whole room with seating and nice decor. The tables are draped in white table cloths and there are stacks of wine barrels as the back drop. They have a palm court in the back and it's so quaint and beautiful. Perfect for sipping some wine slowly and chit chatting with friends. If you are looking to sit in the sun there is are a set of tables and chairs out back near the food truck. Ambiance- I love the location and building. It's an old Sugar Mill that produced sugar from sugar beets. That industry has now ended and it's now a place to visit many wineries. It's the only place that I know of that have numerous wineries and offer wine tasing for a minimum fee.

As I exited my vehicle I heard some old school music and immediately noticed the vibe! This is a hidden gem in Sacramento. UNBELIEVABLE!! We were greeted by Paul the manager. We assumed he was the owner because he was so friendly and greeted us so kindly. Paul served us popcorn lightly topped with olive and jalapeño oil. This was amazing. I really need to recognize Paul. He checked on us often even though there were many people here. My wife and I talked about it and ended up joining their membership. The wine is amazing. We even enjoyed the whites which we normally don't prefer. Paul suggested us to walk around and enjoy the winery area, which we did. It's so beautiful. We did run into Sandeep who was so nice. I was looking for a shirt that they didn't have in stock. I left and he came looking for us just to let me know he will have a shirt in my size for me on my next visit.
